YOU CAN'T SEE THEM! YOU CAN'T STOP THEM!
The Phantom Lake Kids in: The Unseen Invasion is the fifteenth film by Christopher R. Mihm and the fifteenth film in the Mihmiverse Shared Universe.
Set sometime after the events of Queen of Snakes the film focuses on Danny Johnson, his sisters Alice and Evelyn, and their wacky friends Butch, Chip and Billy Blue, as they are trapped at home during a government-mandated quarantine during a worldwide pandemic. Hilarity Ensues as the kids mysteriously disappear in a flash of light, only to return moments later. When Alice doesn't return, the rest of the kids must unravel the mystery behind her disappearance and the invisible, probably alien, forces that are responsible.
This film provides examples of:
- Bagof Holding: Butch's raccoon-skin cap. He's somehow able to hide a sandwich, a bottle of milk, a stick, several dinner rolls and a burger on a plate under his hat.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Christopher R. Mihm crashes the dance party at the end of the movie.
- Creator Cameo: Christopher R. Mihm provides the voice for the Friendly Alien.
- Credits Gag: No animals, invisible alien puppies, invisible alien kitties, or invisible alien monkeys were harmed in the making of this film.
- Dance Party Ending: The kids all start dancing to the rock and roll music they find on the radio rather than start cleaning up the mess caused by their adventure.
- Dope Slap: Repeatedly. Mostly against Billy Blue when he starts waxing romantic about Alice.
- Genius Ditz: Butch, who understands the invisible aliens' scientific jargon despite seemingly living in his own little world most of the time.
- Hidden Depths: Butch is much smarter than he looks.
- Homage: To The '50s Sci-Fi Horror.
- Invisible Jerkass: The alien "puppy", who is not dangerous, but is very mischievous.
- Invisible Monsters: Averted, somewhat. While the aliens are invisible to human senses, due to being slightly out of phase with our dimension, they are friendly and use their advanced technology to help treat a mysterious plague.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Danny's attitude toward Billy Blue talking about Alice being his one true love.
- Newsreel: The film opens with a Gag Dub newsreel which makes reference to several earlier Mihmiverse movies.
- Real Life Writes the Plot: The film came about because Christopher R. Mihm wanted to make a movie during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a movie filmed in his house, with his children, based around a group of kids in quarentine.
- See the Invisible: Evelyn uses flour to track the puppy's movement and reveal its presence.
- Shout-Out:
- Billy Blue quotes the meme of Giorgio A. Tsoukalos of Ancient Aliens saying "I don't want to say it's aliens... but it's aliens."
- The Stinger: There's a post-credits scene where Evelyn tells Butch to go home (as he's eating a burger rather than finish cleaning the basement) and discovers there is another invisible presence.
