These are recommendations made by tropers for Transformers: Generation 1 fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. After a few samples, you will be able to note the interests of the tropers recommending them, and judge whether you might be also interested in a certain 'fic.

Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here^notea copy of the template is just below. Do warn when a fanfic may head into sexual^note or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

Reviews of fics are encouraged, but if you choose to write one, please make it substantive, and give specific details about what you liked / disliked in the fic. If you want to give a fic a thumbs-up without writing a full review, you can add your troper handle to the Recommendations Line. Please refrain from posting "Comments" or Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

Comments: A well-written AU with good character development for Prowl, with minor grammatical errors, that deserves more love and praise.

Synopsis: IDW-AU. They told Sideswipe it was the only way; they had to abandon Sunstreaker to fight the Decepticons, to preserve the greater good. So what is he supposed to do now, when the greater good isn't good enough? Sequel to Us Against the World.
Comments: It's a sequel to another great story that she wrote, focusing on the IDW Twins, but can be read on its own. I can't describe what it's about without spoiling too much, but it stars Hunter O'Nion and Sideswipe. And then Simmons joins the fun. Just... This is what should have happened in canon.

Synopsis: Mirage is captured and raped by the Decepticons. But as the title says, instead of having his spirit broken and losing the will to live, he escapes and gets revenge...in a VERY gruesome way.
Comments: One of the scariest, if not THE scariest, fanfics ever written. Whatever you do, do NOT read this before going to bed, especially if you scare easily. On the lighter side, it's nice to see a story where Mirage doesn't end up a quivering wreck, and we get to see a more vulnerable side to Soundwave.

Synopsis: Finding himself at the mercy of Optimus Prime, Thundercracker bargains with the only thing that he has to offer: a story. It is a tale from a time when the Autobots were led by an Iaconian lawman named Sentinel Prime.
Comments: There is good reason why this novella is on Lexicon's Top Ten list. Best First is a deftly crafted war story that lends a remarkably mature perspective on the Autobot-Decepticon conflict and the political power-play involved. It centers on Thundercracker, but features a host of characters from both factions, as well as some clever shout-outs to the fandom. Do yourself a favor and check this classic out, if you haven't already. It's very long and absolutely worth it.

But when Prowl ropes just about every Autobot on the Ark into it, the contest might prove harder than Jazz thinks...
Comments: A rare Prowl & Jazz fic that doesn't involve them as lovers and makes a fair amount of sense in their characterization/interactions. It also involves an equally rare instance of Optimus pitching into having some fun and showing a downright dangerous sense of humor.

Skywarp is finally sick of finding himself betrayed by everyone he gives his loyalty.
Telling no one, both separately decide to run away to New Cybertron, hoping to maybe learn who they really are again. Fate steps in, however, and sends the transport shuttle they both book passage on crashing into a vast desert on an alien planet. The only survivors, Skywarp and Sideswipe are forced to figure out how to continue surviving, all while one thinks the other is dead/a figment of his imagination and the second can’t figure out why the other is acting so strange.

Comments: I can't help but admire how this fic takes what IMHO was a crazy and bizarre canon idea that raised more questions than it answered, and makes it actually make a certain amount of sense by giving convincing fanon explanations of Jhiaxus' motivations and what turning Arcee "female" actually meant.

Synopsis: Once upon a job in retail, an average Joe took home a returned domestic electronic from the Transformers brand. These are glimpses into a normal life with tiny electro-domestics running rampant through the apartment.
Comments: The premise of this fic is that the Transformers are NOT giant robots from another world, but tiny manmade (but still sentient) robots that turn into personal electronics, small appliances, etc. And they are the freaking CUTEST things ever. The author does a wonderful job of keeping the characters in character despite the fact that they are now action-figure-sized little buggers who talk in beeps and chirps and make life difficult for their human owners. If, by the time you've read a few chapters, you do not want a Domestic Electronic of your own, consider yourself de-humanized.

Comments: I think this may be one of the best Optimus Prime fics I've ever read. Tired and feeling that he was unfit to lead the Autobots, Optimus gets a little present made by Spike to help him get rid of that guilt. The best part was that Spike's present at first had nothing to do with Optimus and wasn't even made for that purpose (it was a school project). And as I was reading it, I kept wondering what this had to do with Optimus in the first place. By the time the story was over, everything fit and it made perfect sense, as well as warming the heart. Definitely recommend this amazing piece.

Summary: After millions of years of absence, the Quintessons have returned to enslave their creations once more. The Autobots and Decepticons agree to unite their forces until the outside threat is driven away. In the meantime, Silverbolt and his brothers are learning more than they ever wanted to know about their unique place in the Autobot army.
Comments: An excellent take on the idea of an Autobot/Decepticon team up. The characterization is wonderful and the relationships between characters (both romantic as well as platonic) is what makes this one of the better tf fics this troper has read. Starscream's interactions with Skydive and Silverbolt are particularly endearing, and the aerialbots as a whole are very likable.

Comments: Heavily AU and slash (Optimus/Starscream - it also makes sense in context). For being her first Transformers fic, the author did a good job with the characters. A few things could have been pulled off better, but she got their characters almost spot-on. All-in-all, it's a good read. This troper thinks it goes better in general than shipping since the actual pairing of the characters isn't the focus of the story.

The result? A rather significantly smaller than usual Ratchet.

Hopeless by Wayward

Synopsis: 'Darkstar is a Decepticon who used to be a seventeen-year-old girl. Now she’s trapped on Cybertron with no friends, no idea how to function, and no help but Mindwipe, who was the one that changed her in the first place.'
Comments: The ultimate deconstruction of the Human-turned-into-Transformer concept. Darkstar is lost and alone in basically every conceivable way. She can't control her body, is conscripted in an army of mechanical enemy aliens threatening to destroy her race for reasons she can't understand, and she's Primus-knows-how-many light-years from Earth. This fic stresses how strange and alien the Transformers are, as Darkstar struggles to adapt to her new environment and tries to find ANY way to go back home. Don't let the cliched premise fool you, I cannot recommend it enough.

Comments: A wonderful fic where the oc actually isn't annoying and drives the plot. The series that goes along with it is quite nice and shows character development of transformers who barely had any screentime. So good I think it deserves its own trope page.

Additionally, the culture of Cassettes and their symbiotic hosts is explored in depth for once, and the reader actually gets a solid picture of what Soundwave does in a peacetime situation.
