Yu-Gi-Oh! Alter Destiny is a Fan Fic written by Consaibot1, set sometime after the events of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.

Yugami Tousuka is an Ordinary High-School Student...except that he's been having strange dreams lately of a dying world, where two figures prepare to duel one another. Of course it's just a dream...until on of the figures from his dream crashes into the back of his teacher's car.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Alter Destiny provides examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Chazz is this to Alexis. Downplayed insofar as Alexis still considers Chazz a friend.
  • After the End: What Yugami sees in his dreams; a world where The Bad Guy Wins.
  • An Ice Person: Other Alexis, an Alternate version of Alexis that is still Brainwashed and Crazy by the Society of Light, still uses her White Night deck.
  • And I Must Scream: Clyde is sealed into a card in Chapter 7. Myr is sealed in Chapter 13. Axel Brodie in Chapter 18.
  • Bilingual Bonus: A couple.
    • Rain's Deck is a combined Archetype of Mystical Elf and Celtic Guard cards. In Japan, Celctic Guardian is dubbed Elf Swordsman.
    • Karyu's surname and his possession of Power Bond.
  • Call-Back: A few.
  • Casting a Shadow: Chaos Ancient Gear Giant, the strongest card Karyu has played, is Dark Attribute.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: A couple.
    • Rain vs Clyde in Chapter 3; She never really struggled against Clyde, who just pulled out random monsters with one clever combo to do some damage.
    • Alexis vs Clyde in Chapter 7; Alexis displays that she Took a Level in Badass by combining Doble Passe with Spirit Barrier to take no damage from a Five-Headed Dragon before winning on her next turn using Cyber Angel Vrash.
    • Karyu vs Mindy and Jasmine; He one-shots both of them with a Chaos Ancient Gear Giant created with Power Bond.
  • Darker and Edgier: What the story is set to be compared to Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
  • Did They or Didn't They?: Karyu and Alexis in Chapter 19. Chapter 22 ends with Alexis pulling him back towards her bedroom...
  • Difficult, but Awesome: How Yugami's Deck, an original archetype called Overload, works; He has to either pay hefty chunks of life points or toss cards to activate effects...but the trade-off is that he can summon powerful monsters extremely quickly.
    • He is also a protagonist who uses Ritual Summoning. This trope is taken up to eleven when you consider the ritual to summon his boss monster, Overload Battlemage, is a Trap Card.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Karyu uses the Ancient Gear Archetype, most of which are Earth Monsters.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Chapter 14 states that Maximillion Pegasus died roughly a year prior to the story.
    • Also Jaden Yuki in Chapter 18.
  • Foil: A few.
    • Yugami to previous protagonists. Similar to Jaden and Yuma, Yugami has fallen asleep in class and has strange dreams ahead of major plot. Unlike both of them, it's implied he's actually not Book Dumb at all and is more along the lines of a confident Yugi. Similar to Yuya, he's capable of multiple special summoning methods. And like Yugi and Yusaku, he utilizes Ritual Summon. He also has a childhood friend as the first major female character.
    • Zael to Shark. They're the first opponents duelled by the protagonist and start the series taking cards from their opponents, with the protagonist wagering their deck against the taken cards.
    • Dark Karyu and Other Alexis to each other; both of them are alternate versions of Karyu and Alexis respectively and both appear to antagonise their original counterparts via a duel to keep them from helping Yugami and Zael. Both of them are a result of a For Want Of A Nail. And both of them shed a tear when defeated by their ordinary counterparts.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Both Dark Karyu and Other/Light Alexis are the result of these kinds of scenarios.
    • Other/Light Alexis is an alternate version of Alexis that is still Brainwashed and Crazy by the Society of Light...and she defeated her version of Jaden with her White Night Deck leading to a Bad Guy Wins scenario.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: A few instances.
    • Chapter 12 - Alexis defeats Other Alexis using her brainwashed counterparts White Night Dragon.
    • Chapter 22 - Karyu does this to Aster Phoenix, stealing Destiny End Dragoon.
  • Hot Teacher: Alexis Rhodes, having gone on to become Yugami, Rain and Zael's teacher.
  • Mêlée à Trois: Chapter 21 - Karyu vs Aster vs Kurgos...though Chapter 22 establishes its mainly Karyu vs Aster with Kurgos acting as The Kingmaker.
  • No-Sell: A few instances.
    • Yugami is able to stop Zael's Goyo Guardian in their first duel from stealing his Overload Magician with the Trap, Overload Dedication which destroys Overload monsters summoned to his opponents field.
    • Yugami is then on the receiving end of this in his duel with Karyu, as Karyu's Chaos Ancient Gear Giant can't be destroyed by Yugami's Overload Surge Trap.
    • How Myr's initial strategy is meant to work; She special summons her Icon of the Deepworld Goddess and then uses spells to render it indestructible. It also has an Omni-Negate that can be used multiple times per turn.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: What Yugami is.
  • The Rival: Zael is slated to be this to Yugami.
    • She is Yugami's first opponent in the series, with Yugami having only 200 Life Points at the end of the duel.
    • Her 20-game winning streak caught the attention of Maria McGillis, causing the Director to enter them both into the Sigma Program.
  • Jerkass: Clyde. He cuts class and makes a minor insult against Alexis's class, even threatening her job when she disciplines him. He avoids being a Karma Houdini after getting sealed into a Card in Chapter 7.
  • Kingmaker Scenario: Kurgos is utterly outmatched by Karyu and Aster. He does get to decide the winner though.
  • She Is All Grown Up: Alexis is this, now a teacher.
  • Shellshocked Veteran: Alexis displays this in Chapter 7 and 8 after seeing Clyde sealed into a card.
  • Ship Tease: Rain with Yugami in Chapter 13, Alexis to Karyu in Chapter 14.
  • The Bus Came Back: Alexis Rhodes returns in this series. And it's not inteded as an Alternate Universe version of her...this is meant to be the same Alexis as Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.
  • Tournament Arc: Chapter 14 confirms one is coming.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Myr suffers one in Chapter 13.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 13 - Myr is defeated...and then Maria seals her into a card, seemingly betraying Kurgos and Myr.
    • Chapter 18 - Rain has qualified for the Duellist Nation Tournament. But Jaden Yuki is missing and Maria has sealed Axel into a card
  • Wham Line: Karyu reveals his surname is Marufuji.
    • In the next chapter we find out Jaden Yuki has gone missing.
