Fanfic / Voyages Of The SS Vanford

Go To

Voyages of the S.S. Vanford is a series of fanfics for the Trails Series written by Jarkes about Juna Crawford and Kurt Vander, and their blossoming romance. The first story, Festival Fun, is dedicated to the two of them getting together, with a little help from their friends.

It can be read here.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Rean's tendency to do this is lampshaded in one scene:
Kurt: Think, Kurt - how would Instructor Rean handle this? ...Right, headpats.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Dalles does this to Juna to force Kurt to fight her as part of his revenge scheme in "A Guardian's Trails."
  • Butt-Monkey: If Rean's there, chances are he's being made fun of. To his face.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Most notably Ash, Altina, and Fie.
  • Everyone Can See It: Kurt and Juna seem to have inherited this from Rean and Alisa, to the point that a betting pool was formed around "When are these two finally going to hook up?"
  • Gilligan Cut: A commonly used gag.
Kurt: There's no way he (Rean) figured it out.
    (cutaway)
Rean: I totally figured it out.
    Juna: WHAT?!
  • Grand Finale: After four stories of fluffy romance and humor, A Guardian's Trails is an action-adventure story centered around Juna being kidnapped by a group known as the "Darklings."
  • Knight of Cerebus: The Darklings in A Guardian's Trails, but ESPECIALLY Dalles.
  • Love Triangle: Defied in Snowy Shenanigans when Sully shows up. She admits that she had feelings for Kurt, but knew that his heart always belonged to Juna.
  • Noodle Incident: Laura's attempt at ice-skating was apparently quite disastrous, according to Fie in Snowy Shenanigans.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: Invoked in the title and in the series - Musse refers to the two as "The S.S. Vanford" a few times. It takes Altina the whole series to get the joke.
  • Running Gag: The betting pool about Kurt and Juna's relationship comes up at least once in each story. Even Mueller was involved.
  • Theme Naming: The members of the Darklings (as well as the name of the group) are all named after and based on characters from the Ys series.
  • The Tease: Musse, as in canon.
  • Wham Line: In "Bad Boys and Girl Gangs", Calilica explains how she was adopted after her parents died in an airship crash. Later, in "A Guardian's Trails", Kishigal is explaining his backstory about how he and his wife were on an airship that was attacked and everyone except him was killed, while the official story was that the ship had crashed, and he hadn't seen his daughter since.
    Musse: ...What's your daughter's name?
Kishigal: You already know the answer, Lady Mildine. ...Her name is Calilica.
    • And at the end of the same chapter, combined with a Wham Shot in text form:
Juna: (opens her eyes to reveal that they've turned red) NOW... DIE!
