Fanfic / The Jungle Book (A3!)

Go To

The Jungle Book (A3!) is a One-Shot Fic written by Legendary Biologist. It is a Fusion Fic of A3 and The Jungle Book (1967), featuring A3! characters acting as The Jungle Book characters. Mostly. While the plot is still similar to Disney's The Jungle Book, things end up very different due to the integration of The Syndicate plot from A3! into the story, in addition to following more closely to the A3! characterization and background.

Can be read at AO3.

Tropes found in the work (beware of unmarked spoilers for both the series and the fanfic):

  • Adaptation Distillation: There is no equivalent to Kaa. The scene with King Louie or Banri itself is simply an argument rather than kidnapping and Scatting.
  • Berserk Button: Hurting Homare is one for Hisoka, but hurting Homare with guns is the last straw, especially if you are July. This is because August died of gunshot wounds courtesy of July.
    • Played for Laughs in Tasuku's case. During the argument with Banri, Tasuku is more angry about Banri wanting to involve Tsumugi into the whole mess than anything.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just as July prepares to shoot Hisoka, Homare comes back and intercepts July.
  • The Caretaker: Azuma, Guy, Tasuku, and Homare to Hisoka. Especially Tasuku and Homare, but Hisoka refused to listen to Tasuku.
  • Consummate Liar: Chikage enjoys telling a lie for the heck outta it. It doesn't work with Hisoka around.
  • Darker and Edgier: And how. It opens with Tasuku finding a dead body. Yes, you read that right. Hisoka was found on a broken boat by the river with his dead friend. What's more, Hisoka was injured. In contrast to the Bloodless Carnage in Disney's The Jungle Book, the final showdown brings out all the blood in all its glory.
  • Died Standing Up: Subverted. Homare only passed out while standing up.
  • The Dreaded: Having the Organization label on his back makes Hisoka one. This is because everyone is afraid of getting involved with the Organization. July himself is also one.
  • Dynamic Entry: Banri enters the scene by swinging on a vine and crashing into Homare. The latter is caused by Hisoka noticing him and dodging.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: July was dead. Chikage had agreed to help Hisoka with the files he needed to stay with his newfound friends and family. Despite the serious injuries, Homare also survived.
  • Finger Gun: Tasuku made this gesture to explain just how dangerous July himself could be.
  • He Knows Too Much: July's motive of going after Chikage, Hisoka, and August, because if they managed to report his crime, the Organization would execute him.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Homare protects Hisoka by bravely holding July off despite his lack of combat ability and weapons, resulting in him seriously injured and almost dying.
  • Identity Amnesia: Hisoka comes with this, but recovers by the end of the story.
  • Ironic Echo: A tearjerking one. Hurt and angered by Homare's insensitive words, Hisoka ran off and compared Homare to a robot, if not worse. However, when they reconciled, Homare revealed that his ex called him a broken cyborg for the same reason. Having seen Homare pulling off a Heroic Sacrifice for him, Hisoka tearfully said that Homare wasn't because despite the insensitivity, his kind heart and Papa Wolf nature made up for it. Broken cyborgs couldn't possibly have those.
  • The Juggernaut: Homare simply pushed through everything July threw at him.
  • Made of Iron: Homare took a lot in the showdown against July. Bite his arm and rip off the flesh, bash his head with the butt of a rifle, shoot him multiple times, stab and slash away at his leg, he still won't go down. He just passed out while still standing up.
  • Man Bites Man: July does it to Homare to break free of his grasp.
  • Multiple Gunshot Death: A very pissed Hisoka gives this one to July. July almost caused one to Homare.
  • Mysterious Watcher: July is always snooping around for info about Hisoka's whereabouts. He hits the jackpot when Tasuku goes to see the Ginsenkai patrol.
  • Oh, Crap!: Hisoka running away for the last time, because unlike before, Hisoka no longer trusts Homare and will be harder to find.
  • Overdrawn at the Blood Bank: The showdown has blood puddling beneath Homare, and he survives.
  • Papa Wolf: Homare is one for Hisoka. As said by Homare, he isn't a fighter but when he sees Hisoka in danger, he just gains so much strength. And boy, it shows.
    • Tasuku is one as well for Hisoka. He only wants the best for Hisoka, but Hisoka doesn't like him all that much.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Sakyo's Ginsenkai patrol, because Sakyo prefers being careful and avoiding conflict than joining and resolving one.
  • Pistol-Whipping: July smacked Homare with the butt of his rifle. It didn't even faze Homare.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Homare did a heartbreaking one by outright telling Hisoka to meet Chikage, not long after Hisoka told his problem with the Organization. Hisoka hit Homare, ran away in a fit of rage, and lost his trust in him. Things go downhill from this.
    • This is actually deconstructed, as many problems stem from this alone. Homare hurt Hisoka with his way of speaking. Hisoka hit Homare and ran away. The problem? Hisoka, coming from the Organization, knows how to hide very well. The first time Hisoka ran away, he ended up chatting with Azami and Tasuku caught him. The second time, Tasuku couldn't find him but Homare came across him instead, out of pure coincidence. The third time, Hisoka trusted Homare enough to reveal himself as long as Tasuku wasn't around. The last time, Hisoka no longer trusted Homare. Knowing this, Tasuku went to seek help from the Ginsenkai patrol, but unbeknownst to him, July was spying on them. July gained information about Hisoka's whereabouts and quickly found him. Homare was able to locate Hisoka himself, but July was already there. Homare's Papa Wolf instinct kicked in and he just threw himself into danger, which resulted in him almost dying.
  • Professional Killer: Chikage, Hisoka, August, and July are these, being part of the Organization.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: "Let! Me! Go!"
  • Sliding Scale of Idealism Versus Cynicism: A few.
    • Whereas Sakyo believes that getting involved with the Organization stuff is dangerous, similar to Tsumugi's belief, Banri believes that they can do it if they unite as one. Azami also pushes Sakyo to help Tasuku when Hisoka runs off for the last time, Organization be damned. However, Azami is mostly motivated by his sympathy for Azuma's and Guy's loss.
    • How to deal with July? Homare simply says he'll fight him off. Then Tasuku reminds Homare what July is capable of, instilling fear in him, but Homare still fights July anyway. Tasuku is also a firm believer that it's better to let Hisoka meet Chikage so they can deal with the Organization business by themselves as Organization people. Both are right. Homare intercepts July and is seriously injured, but this enrages Hisoka so much that he easily slaughters July. But when everything is over, Hisoka decides that he needs Chikage to resolve the Organization things.
    • Hisoka is struggling with this when he meets the cheerful Misumi and Kazunari, especially Misumi. Whereas Hisoka feels betrayed by Homare and insists that befriending others will only get him betrayed again, Misumi and Kazunari believe that friends won't betray each other. By the end of the story, Misumi and Kazunari are right, as Homare comes back to protect Hisoka and almost dies from it.
  • True Companions: Misumi and Kazunari. They try to get Hisoka to join them.
  • Unstoppable Rage: Hisoka flies into one when July shoots Homare. He knocks Misumi down to slaughter July.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Chikage and Hisoka aren't all that friendly to each other when they meet, but Chikage still wants the very best for Hisoka and even threatens Homare to truly treat Hisoka like his own family.
  • You Remind Me of X: A reason why Hisoka warms up to Homare and regains his memory very fast; Homare reminds Hisoka of August. Chikage also agrees.
