Pirates of the Ring is a 2003 crossover fanfic written by Aelaer, combining the The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean series. After successfully killing Barbossa and regaining his title of captain of the Black Pearl, Jack Sparrow(along with Anamaria and Gibbs) is taking Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann on a honeymoon tour of the Caribbean, when they are unexpectedly transported to Middle-Earth — specifically, the Shire at the start of Bilbo Baggins' 111th birthday — just in time to be drafted into escorting the hobbits. Gradually, they form friendships and alliances with the rest of the Fellowship, while Jack struggles with his own inner desires for the One Ring...

The Fic was completed on September 1, 2010, and can be viewed on Fanfiction.Net here(https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1503979/1/Pirates-of-the-Ring).

This Fanfic contains examples of:

  • Ascended Extra: In POTC canon, Anamaria only appeared in the first film, and then vanished from later films due to Zoe SaldaƱa having problems with the Executive Meddling. Here, along with Gibbs, she's the most prominent member of the Black Pearl crew apart from Jack, and, after Gibbs dies at Amon Hen, the only member of the Black Pearl crew, full stop.
  • Bedmate Reveal: Played For Laughs, when Will mistakes Anamaria for Elizabeth when she's trying to wake him up until she calls him "little Willy."
  • Bilingual Bonus: Jack calls the rum he creates in Middle-Earth "Sogoneru", or "Drink of God."
  • Boom, Headshot!: How Jack kills Gothmog.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Jack, obviously.
  • Death by Adaptation: In POTC canon, Joshamee Gibbs survives all the way to the fifth film. Here, he dies at Amon Hen, shortly after the events of the first film.
  • Double Standard: When Gibbs and Anamaria leave the Black Pearl unguarded(even though it's in the middle of a lake in the Shire, thousands of miles away from the sea), Jack slaps Gibbs to punish him, but leaves Anamaria alone. When Gibbs asks why Jack doesn't slap Anamaria too, she replies that he knows she'll slap him right back.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Anamaria gets her ankle sprained at the warg attack en route to Helm's Deep, and for that reason she's banned from participating in the battle. She doesn't take well to this.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite his reputation as a Handsome Lech, Jack refuses to sleep with a Rohirrim kitchen maid upon learning she's a widow.
  • Gender-Equal Ensemble: Initially subverted, there's two women in the POTC cast(Elizabeth and Anamaria) and three men(Jack, Will and Gibbs). Played straight after Gibbs dies at Amon Hen; now the cast consists of an equal number of men and women.
  • Giving Radio to the Romans: Or in this case, Giving Rum To Middle-Earth, which is what Jack Sparrow does.
  • Hilarity Ensues: Jack introducing rum to Middle-Earth.
  • I Choose to Stay: After finishing the quest, the POTC characters ultimately make this decision: Will and Elizabeth recognize that for all they know, they might've been gone from Earth long enough for the people of Port Royal to declare them dead, and the only person they have waiting back there for them is Elizabeth's father, and he might not live that much longer anyway; Anamaria decides to stay because she's fallen in love with a Gondorian nobleman; and Jack decides to stay in exchange for becoming a privateer of Gondor and getting to travel the seas again.
  • Mr. Vice Guy: Obviously, Jack's love of treasure makes him highly vulnerable to the lure of the One Ring. Thankfully, he resists its effects long enough at Amon Hen to tell Frodo to get out of there, fast.
  • Nobody Touches the Hair: Jack furiously shoots an Uruk after it cuts off his beard at Amon Hen.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Anamaria's Caribbean accent becomes more pronounced when she's enraged.
  • Out of Focus: Frodo and Sam/Elizabeth, Merry and Pippin end up becoming this after the breaking of the Fellowship, if only because their parts of the journey remain much the same as per canon.
  • Red Herring: Galadriel gives Gibbs a shield before the Fellowship leaves Lothlorien. Sadly, he doesn't bring it with him when the Uruk-Hai confront them at Amon Hen, so he dies with Boromir.
  • Shoot the Dog: Will persuades Aragorn to drug Elizabeth to stay asleep while he and the rest of the Fellowship leave for Gondor the next morning, so that he doesn't have to worry about her getting killed at Pelennor Fields. Of course, Elizabeth wakes up afterwards and goes after him anyway, and she's none too happy when they reunite again.
  • Token Minority: Anamaria is the only black person in the POTC cast to arrive in Middle-Earth. Qualifies as Token Enemy Minority to natives of Middle-Earth who think she's one of the Haradrim.
