Casino Paisano Royale, or just Paisano Royale is an SMG4 fanfiction written by CVGW James, retelling the events of the episodes leading up to "War of the Fat Italians 2023".

Like the original, SMG3 is in for a surprise when his notebook—or, as he calls it, his "sussy notebook"—is stolen and taken to some casino owned by some billionaire. Only problem is it's guarded heavier than Fort Knox, so getting it back won't be so easy.

You can read the story on FanFiction.Net here, or on DeviantArt here.

Paisano Royale contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: On at least a couple of occasions, the dead memes SMG3 looks after in the Internet Graveyard are shown to throw parties in his absence. Here, while that still happens, Eggdog is still shown to be lonely and worried about SMG3.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
  • Adaptational Explanation: When escaping from the Internet Graveyard in "Trust No One", Mario is shown explicitly here to have used a portal. Justified, as a portal was how they got into the Graveyard in the first place.
  • Adaptation Deviation:
    • While trying to break out of the elevator in Chapter 6, SMG3 no longer uses SMG4 to pry open the door, and their spoon-digging attempt doesn't work at all.
    • Two changes were made to "Trust No One":
  • Adaptation Expansion:
    • Readers get to see Casino Paisano before its proper introduction in "War of the Fat Italians 2023" (or rather, the trailer to it).
    • SMG3 is seen writing in his notebook much more frequently than in the original mini-arc, even seen writing in it during past SMG4 events.
    • Four examples regarding "We Don't Talk About What Happened in the Elevator":
      • The conflict was started because the metafictional SMG4 Crew video "Mario Reacts To Orphan Memes" was copyrighted by YouTube. Chapter 3 is dedicated to showing just what that video would be like if it existed... and why it was copyrighted.
      • Readers get to see more of the two meme guardians during their time there. Justified, as their playing off of each other becomes a key factor in the mini-arc going forward.
      • In the original, only a glimpse of Eggdog's party in the Internet Graveyard was shown, but Chapter 8 is dedicated to describing said party.
      • When Mario and Meggy go up the stairs to help SMG4 and 3, a guard tries to stop them (unsuccessfully). In the original, it was a straight shot until they encountered Susan.
    • Marty is seen giving Mario the task of stealing SMG3's notebook shortly before the events of "Trust No One". This retroactively would make the revelation in that episode of who stole the notebook and who they did it for an Internal Reveal.
    • On the subject of "Trust No One"...
      • SMG3 has a moment with Eggdog shortly before interrogating Mario at the beginning of the episode.
      • Marty is seen watching the events unfold in scenes where he originally wasn't present.
      • While SMG3 is streaming, the retelling offers a better look at the people following him, particularly ShadowSquid9, an Original Character who appeared in the author's past SMG4 retellings as a Canon Foreigner. There are also followers whose names Shout-Out to real-life YouTubers, like AlexseySniper and Green Spider 25.
      • When witnessing Mario's notebook theft, SMG3 and 4 are shown to react to the theft as it's happening on the stream, as opposed to after the fact like in the original. Justified, as such an event would realistically warrant a much sooner reaction.
      • After being outed as the thief, SMG3 sends the Dead Memes of the Internet Graveyard after Mario to prevent him from escaping with the notebook. They fail, of course.
      • And finally, Chapters 16 and 17 feature what can be considered an extended ending, with more proper dialogue between Mario and Marty, and SMG3's sadness, anger, and determination to get it back shown in much more explicit detail.
  • Adapted Out: Meggy's joke about wanting to join the Mexican Standoff has been removed from "Trust No One".
  • And This Is for...: While beating up Susan in Chapter 10, Mario has this to say:
Mario: THIS IS FOR THE DEMONETIZING! AND THIS IS FOR GREG! AND THIS IS FOR SENDING MARIO TO THE CANCELLED DIMENSION, YOU EVIL BITCH!!!
  • Black Comedy: Chapter 3 can be considered Black Comedy: The Chapter. Let’s just say Mario reacting to orphan memes doesn’t exactly qualify as squeak-clean territory, especially when Batman himself gets involved.
  • Bowdlerise: Two changes to "We Don't Talk About What Happened in the Elevator" were made to make it appear more family-friendly.
    • Instead of saying "boobies" to the elevator door to get it to open, Mario says "lagangias". It still works.
    • Meggy hops off the elevator pole after Mario finishes Stating the Simple Solution, instead of sliding down like in the original. This was done to dissuade the illusion that it looked like a stripping pole, something many viewers of the original were quick to joke about.
  • Character Narrator: The first half of Chapter 4 is told from Susan’s perspective.
  • Compressed Adaptation: Despite being a relatively important episode in the mini-arc, the events of "SMG4 & SMG3 Are Forced To Hold Hands" are brushed off as something that happened offscreen.
  • Darker and Edgier: Mario deals with Susan relatively quickly and easily in "We Don't Talk About What Happened in the Elevator", pushing her off the building with little effort. Here, however, Mario gives her a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, not just for demonetizing SMG4, but also for what happened to Greg, and sending him to the cancelled dimension.
  • Foreshadowing: One new detail added to "We Don't Talk About What Happened in the Elevator" is a clerk warning SMG4 and 3 not to use the elevator they would get stuck in.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Unlike in "We Don't Talk About What Happened in the Elevator", where Mario just pushes Susan off the building with little effort, here he gives her an epic beatdown for demonetizing SMG4, as well as other bad things she put the SMG4 gang (mostly Mario) through in the past.
  • O.C. Stand-in: Mr. Deel is presented here as the owner of Casino Paisano, and the billionaire SMG3 was talking about in the trailer for "War of the Fat Italians 2023". While at first this may seem confusing, as the endless amount of imagery and merchandise in Marty’s image would suggest he’s the owner, it should be noted that the silhouette seen in the trailer when SMG3 mentions him does not have Marty’s proportions.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. There’s a secretary at Casino Paisano named Rulette Wheeler… even though there’s already a character named Wheeler in the SMG4 universe.
  • Recap Episode: The premise of Chapter 2 is SMG3 writing in his notebook during the events of the Waluigi Arc, "A Day In The Life Of Everyone", the Cosmology Saga, and the aftermath of SMG4 Movie: WESTERN SPAGHETTI. Special mention goes to the Waluigi Arc callback having one that incorporates the author’s retelling of it, Mario and The Wah-Pocalypse (namely Waluigi’s conversation with 3 in a scene not adapted from "Waluigi's Time").
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: "Paisano Royale", huh? Sounds a lot like a Bond movie
  • Punny Name:
    • The owner of Casino Paisano is Mr. Deel… as in, business and casino deals.
    • Likewise, the casino’s secretary Rulette Wheeler, and pun on "roulette" and wheel games.
  • Revisiting the Roots: After the author’s previous works just called Susan "the YouTube CEO", this story calls her by her proper name.
  • Shout-Out: While Mario is reacting to orphan memes, Batman asks "why did you say that name?" (the name being Martha, Bruce’s mother), a reference to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: When accusing Luigi for taking his notebook, SMG3 doesn't shoot Luigi like he does in "Trust No One".
  • Suddenly Speaking: Downplayed with Marty. He's been shown to talk unlike in the source material, but because only Mario can understand him, the dialogue appears in Mario's thoughts, or his own.
  • What Could Possibly Go Wrong?: The last words in Chapter 3, spoken by the narrator. For context, Mario just got done reacting to orphan memes, complete with offending Batman, and SMG4, pleased with the results, uploads the video, wondering how this will come back to haunt him.
