Recap / SMG4: We Don't Talk About What Happened in the Elevator

Go To

I SWEAR NOTHING HAPPENED IN THE ELEVATOR

YouTube has demonetized SMG4's latest video, so he, SMG3, Mario, and Meggy head off to YouTube headquarters to fix the problem. The former two take the elevator to talk to the new head of YouTube, but it unexpectedly jams, leaving both meme guardians trapped. As they struggle to escape under rising tensions, can Mario and Meggy, in the middle of their own mess, free them from their predicament?

Tropes:

  • Arc Villain: Mario defies this by knocking Susan Wojawojawojawoj, who bragged about becoming one, off the roof to the ground, where the demonetization demons drag her off for torture.
  • Big Bad: Susan Wutheringheights is not only behind the elevator jamming that trapped SMGs 3 and 4 and drove them nuts, but is also revealed to still have the ability to demonetize YouTube videos and is using it for revenge for her downward spiral after stepping down.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: What Susan Woolybully ends up being, after she makes a big statement about how she's going to be the main villain for the next arc, only for Mario to knock her off the roof down onto the street to where she's taken off by the YouTube Demonetizers as karma for abusing the copyright system.
  • Call-Back:
    • Mario's cowboy costume from when he is preparing to get the elevator door to open has a badge that says "Optimus Prime 3000".
    • Meggy once again solves a problem by spinning like a chainsaw to cut through an obstruction, in this case a wooden drawer jamming the elevator gears.
    • Neither Mario, nor Meggy, nor the subtitles, know how to say or spell Susan Windows98's last name, a Running Gag going all the way back to her very first appearance.note  Indeed, this time the subtitles don't even bother by the end and simply call her "Susan".
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: SMG3 and Meggy serve as these to their respective Vitriolic Best Buds; SMG4 for overreacting to a demonetization, and Mario for looking for a rare, magical type of chips in his own way.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Mario responds to Susan Whereswaldo's Evil Gloating about "the Susan Arc" by running up and punting her off the roof of the building.
  • Deteriorates Into Gibberish: Meggy's attempt to pronounce Susan Wallawallabingbang's name swiftly turns into incoherent babbling, as ever.
  • Didn't Think This Through: SMG3 attempts to escape his confines with a large selection of explosives... with said "confines" being an elevator with nowhere to take cover, as SMG4 points out.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: After Mario kicks Susan Wetwinky off the YouTube Headquarters, she's dragged off by the demonetization demons for abusing their power.
  • Evil Is Petty: How does Susan Wondertart retaliate after leaving YouTube? By demonetizing videos left and right and camping out next to the elevator mechanism.
  • Foreshadowing: Before Susan Werethelastinline is revealed to be behind the demonetizations, she appears at the top of the elevator shaft to freak SMG4 out when he opens the roof of the elevator.
  • Not So Above It All: Meggy eventually helps Mario in his quest to get the "magical spinning chips" (fries) once she discovers they really do exist and Heavy has them. Her attempt to get them ends with the foodstuff flying straight into her mouth and her expression suggests she liked it.
  • Properly Paranoid: SMG4 is emotionally tormented when his video got demonetized, and he concluded that his channel will eventually get banned. Turns out, he was right to worry; Susan Wowsow has been secretly living on top of YouTube headquarters and was demonetizing SMG4's videos. Had Mario and Meggy not found her up there, she might've started a "Susan Arc" and brought despair to the gang.
  • Smart Ball: After Mario gets the elevator door to open, Meggy is about to try to climb up the cable to reach the jammed elevator car, only for Mario to suggest it would be easier if they used the stairs and dropped down instead. Meggy, realizing he's right, blushes in embarrassment.
  • Time-Passage Beard: Played for Laughs. During their final sequence in the elevator and leading up to their second slap-fight, SMGs 3 and 4 have suddenly grown noticeable stubble in the span of ten minutes, and in the former's case on top of his actual beard.
  • Wimp Fight: Being trapped in close proximity to each other for so long has SMG4 and SMG3's tempers fray badly enough to do this to each other. Twice.
