This work contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: The Green Lantern Corps in this iteration are a military division created by NERV. All the members are humans rather than being comprised of different alien species.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • By the start of this series, Shinji had some military training under Killowog's guidance.
    • This version of Kensuke is more in-line with his counterparts in the Alternative Continuity games where they became Evangelion pilots.
  • Adaptational Species Change: All the alien characters have been change into humans. Though Sinestro does retain his iconic appearance due to an unknown incident.
  • Adaptational Wimp: The Green Lantern Corps are not the galaxy-wide peace keeping force here but instead, a small squad for possibly one planet.
  • Adaptation Deviation: During the battle against the Sixth Angel, NERV used the Central Lantern Battery to power up the Positron Cannon rather than channeling Japan's electrical output into the weapon.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: This version of Shinji is a lot braver and hardened individual compared to the meek crybaby he was in the anime. He is also more willing to express his distaste towards his father's asshole behavior.
  • Berserk Button: Gendo is livid when he learnt Hector did something to Rei and Hector enjoys every second of Gendo's rage.
  • Big Damn Heroes: As a trapped Shinji succumbs to despair and prepares to have his life ended, Ion contacts him and reveals to him the Green Lantern oath.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Both Misato and Sinestro argue on how to power up the Positron Cannon to defeat the Sixth Angel. Sinestro suggests using the Power Battery that'll allow them to fire multiple shots. Misato counters that'll cause a blackout on NERV, leaving them defenseless even for a short while.
  • Composite Character: Shinji Ikari is a cross between his canon counterpart and Hal Jordan. Shinji wears an aviator uniform which Hal wears when he works as a military pilot.
  • Damsel in Distress: Immediately after Sixth Angel had being defeated, NERV gets attacked by Hector Hammond who proceeds to kidnap Misato.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Sinestro is a tinge surprised how Gendo actually treats Shinji.
  • Family of Choice: Shinji have spent years forming a sibling bond with his fellow children in the barracks. It's implied Shinji sees Commander Killowog as a Parental Substitute.
  • A Father to His Men: Commander Killowog while maybe gruff and strict, cares for his men, including Shinji. When the two give their salutes before Shinji left for Tokyo, Shinji hugged his commander who responded in kind.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Hector Hammond was deeply envious of Gendo's success, resulting in him trying to take everything from Gendo and carrying out secret experiments on the Lantern Battery to one-up him. It didn't last.
  • Heroism Won't Pay the Bills: Subverted. Sinestro explains to Shinji that the Lanterns will be paid for their services. The reason Toji became a Lantern is to get the money to pay for his sister's hospital bills.
  • Mook Horror Show: Hector murders all the NERV soldiers after gaining his powers.
  • Mutual Kill: Both EVA Unit-01 and the Angel simultaneously drive their weapons right at each other's head. Thankfully, Shinji survives.
  • Ring of Power: The Lanterns' power rings are made from the meteorite minerals and the giant green Power Crystal. This what allows the Lanterns to not only create their energy constructs but also act as a controller and Power Source to the Evangelions.
  • Sadistic Choice: Hector puts Shinji through this; either Shinji hands over the Lantern ring to him or he watches Hector transforming Misato into a mutant. Shinji finds another way by secretly contacting Rei to his location.
  • Villain Has a Point: Hector reveals to Shinji that Misato considers him a burden to her due to his previous insubordinations and recklessness. While Misato apologizes for what Hector has revealed, Shinji doesn't hold it against her and admits he would have felt the same way.
  • Weapon-Based Characterization: Shinji's preferred Lantern construct is a knife, in relation to his connections with his friends and Commander Killowog back in the barracks.
