Go To

During another Space Quake, Shido went out to search for his younger sister. Unfortunately, he would stumbled upon a colossal battle between the AST and a beautiful girl with immense power leading to his death.

Then, Shido woke up and found his sister, Kotori who was revealed to be part of a organization that dealt on containing these girls like the one he saw. Kotori escorted him to Madame Web who explained to the boy that she revived with her power and tasked him to be the guardian of the Spirits.

With that, Spider-Man 2099 was born.

Date A Live: Spirit of the Spider is a crossover series between Date A Live and Spider-Man 2099. It is a What If? story where Shido Itsuka became Spider-Man 2099. It is created by PowerCore Productions and part of the second phase of Anime X Marvel series, The Spider-Verse Saga.

It can be read here.

This contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Molten Man went from a street-level villain to an Eldritch Abomination that can take on the Spirits.
  • Attack Backfire: Those that tried to take a Spirit’s power by force will mutate horribly. This happens to Molten Man and Isaac Wescott.
  • Foreshadowing: Kurumi gives a hint to Shido about his future where he'll befriend people that are like him.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Shido muses that his fated encounter with Tohka and Origami could be a “Canon Event”.
    • The animal motifs, apart from the more well-known ones, that Shido can choose includes Wolverine, Sabretooth and Wendigo. Reina wanted to choose Spider-Monkey.
    • Shido using a Transformation Trinket to summon his suit is similar to the Spider Bracelet from the Spider-Man (Japan).
  • Oh, Crap!: Both Madame Web and Kotori has this when they see Molten Man, a person mutated by Spirit power which meant that Wescott is still alive.
  • Parental Substitute: Madame Web acts as a grandmother figure to Kotori at Ratatoskr.
  • Properly Paranoid: Everyone in Ratatoskr trains Shido’s to the bone to develop his Super-Reflexes in case of any surprise attacks. To their credit, they were right.
  • Shout-Out: Kurumi show Shido her wearing an iconic swimsuit from One Piece Film: Strong World. Shido was more than pleased....
  • Take a Third Option: Kurumi enacts a Space Quake to put Shido into a Sadistic Choice where either he gives himself up to her or she'll destroys the entire city. Shido chooses to build a web dome around himself and Kurumi, where he'll unleash a Space Quake of his own to counter Kurumi's, at the cost of his own life. Kurumi begrudgingly relents.
  • Vampiric Draining: Shido thought the reason he had fangs was to steal the Spirits’ powers.
Kotori: You just want to give them a hickey, you pervert.
