Fanfic / My Class Sanctuary

Go To

For all the bright and shiny hope the hero world shows, there will always be darkness. Within that darkness, there can be light, if given the chance. These students of UA will work to prove they can be heroes, if not for the world then for each other.

Class Sanctuary is a My Hero Academia Fanfic written by both Mrotrax and JokerCurry that crosses over with several different anime, cartoons, and video games.

Characters with tragic upbringings, dangerous Quirks, and the potential to do good for the world are given a chance to become Heroes in a special UA study course known as Sanctuary. One of those students just so happens to be Izuku Midoriya, who was born with a destructive Quirk that labeled him a mass-murdering villain when he was only a child. However, he is being given a second chance to become a Hero, along with a class of other quirky characters.

The story has the following...

  • Adaptational Badass: Quite a few of the characters get this treatment.
    • Melissa Shield inherits One for All from All Might and has already unlocked Danger Sense.
    • Hana Shimura is not only alive but also a pseudo-Nomu infused with nearly a thousand different Quirks - all of which are derived from One Piece's Devil Fruits.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Several canon villains are heroic in this story.
    • Himiko Toga was adopted by the Bakugou family after her family's abuse came to light.
    • Rather than being imprisoned in Tartarus, Lady Nagant becomes a teacher for Sanctuary.
    • Nui Harime, Ulquiorra Cifer, Seryu Ubiquitous, Maine, and Mukuro Ikusaba, who were villains in their home series, are all given the chance to become heroes here.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: In Canon, Shigaraki had largely Cannon Fodder and the Anti-All Might Nomu. Here, after all the shit Izuku went through causes a realization, he hires some more competent hands for this such as the Volcano Thieves. He later brings in the Wild Villains after the USJ.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Mashirao Ojiro. Justified, since he lost his aunt and uncle in Izuku's Quirk Accident and holds resentment because of it.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While still unrepentantly evil, All for One and Dr. Kyudai Garaki are much more affable with each other and with Tomura Shigaraki, who in turn desires to destroy society simply to make a better one where Izuku and his friends can live peaceful lives.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Ippan Josei and Lady Nagant, complete strangers in canon, are in a romantic relationship.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Shihai Kuroiro was a heroic member of Class 1-B in canon. Here, he's an agent of Ragyo Kiryuin, and kidnaps Ochako on her orders.
  • Arc Villain: Raygo takes on the role of the primary villain of the story for several chapters, but is ultimately defeated by Chapter 21.
  • Ascended Extra: Ippan Josei, the unnamed fox woman Izuku saves in the canon Villain Hunt arc, is one Class Sanctuary's teachers.
    • In canon, the Wild Villains and the Volcano Thieves are only known to exist through My Hero Academia: Clash Royale. Here, the latter group is hired by Shigaraki, and the former is brought in after the USJ thanks to Adaptational Intelligence Shigaraki went through.
  • Cooldown Hug: All Might gives this to Izuku twice: the first when they first meet and Izuku beats himself up over the effects of his Quirk Awakening, and next when Izuku goes into a Heroic BSoD after Ojiro's death at the USJ.
  • Crossover Relatives: Best Jeanist turns out to be Nui's biological father in this universe.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Overhaul. Given what he did to Eri, it was justified.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: When Izuku's Quirk awoke, he accidentally caused a fire that destroyed a third of his city, killing thousands of people - including his parents. While he was acquitted of wrongdoing since Izuku was just a child and it was the first time his Quirk manifested, people still hate him for killing their loved ones, and Izuku's gone through multiple revenge murder attempts. Then a group of scientists working for All for One kidnapped him and subjected him to horrific experiments which included having a Nomu rape him.
  • Death by Adaptation: A couple instances so far:
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: Inko and Hisashi Midoriya definitely qualify; Izuku's one memory of them, while heartbreaking, is them smiling warmly at their son and promising to keep him safe as his Quirk awoke.
  • Demoted to Extra: Most of Class 1-A doesn't have much prominence like in canon since the story focuses on Sanctuary. The only members of 1-A with prominent roles so far are Katsuki, Ochako, and Shoto, and that's largely due to their interacting with Class Sanctuary.
  • The Dreaded: The Joker is feared by everyone, civilian, hero and villain alike, having a body count in the near millions, was a massive nightmare to the point he had to be restrained constantly, and repeatedly comes back from the dead, is it any wonder All For One fears the clown?
  • Enemy Mine: When Joker begins to rear his ugly head, All for One calls up All Might to work together in taking down the psycho clown.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Both All for One (grandfather) and Tomura Shigaraki (cousin/uncle by adoption) love Izuku and want only the best for him, All for One even threatens to kill Ujiko when he implies using Izuku as a weapon. Tomura's whole reason to attack the USJ was for revenge on Ojiro because he antagonized Izuku.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Both Curator and Bearhead view what Scarecrow did to Rei as just plain wrong.
  • Grand Theft Me: Nine's fate.
  • Horrifying the Horror: All for One: Infamous Quirk Boogeyman of the underworld. Ruler of Japan's underground. Killer of 6 of the 8 One for All wielders... and he's terrified of the Joker.
  • Kryptonite Factor: Shoto's ice freezes over everyone in the landslide zone except for Toru (as she was behind him)... and Volcano, whose Quirk makes him impossible to freeze.
Volcano: Nice try... but you can't freeze lava.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The fic makes use of a variety of fandoms in order to expand the overall world:
  • Oh, Crap!: When reviewing the files on the USJ Nomu, Garaki finds out that it's the same Nomu the science division he and All for One dissolved that was used to rape Izuku repeatedly. Shigaraki finds out when the Nomu tries it again, forcing him to dissolve the Nomu.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Shoto unintentionally does this when discussing his past with Izuku, claiming he didn't know what he went through, before realizing that he was talking to a student who had been bullied and attacked constantly due to the Firestarter incident (so much so that heroes had to patrol around where Izuku lived constantly because of how many villains were hired to kill him), used as a sex toy for a Nomu, beaten up and forced to undergo numerous Quirk Mutations.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Most of the Sanctuary kids didn't have many people in their corners before Nedzu brought them all together. Now, they are an inseparable group.
  • Related in the Adaptation: All for One is Inko Midoriya's father and therefore, Izuku's grandfather. Naturally, he's pissed when he hears one of the science divisions under his command kidnapped and tortured Izuku over a complete accident.
  • Shout-Out: Being a Massive Multiplayer Crossover, this is to be expected.
  • Sixth Ranger: After the Sports Festival, 14 more students are enrolled in Class Sanctuary.
  • Team Dad: Volcano is this to his fellow companions, demanding Dusty Ash use protection when going off to have fun with Tomura.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Most of the Sanctuary kids have quite frankly, Pro-level Quirks, but no control or outside factors that keep them from being accepted.
  • We Have Become Complacent: Homura Kongoh believes the world has become rigid and apathetic and launches the 97 Districts Project as a way to produce the strongest fighters capable of taking on everything the world has to offer.
  • Worthy Opponent: Volcano views Melissa as this after the USJ.
  • Villainous Friendship:
    • Both Curator and Bearhead are noted to be extremely close friends.
    • Chimera begins to form one with Volcano and Gust Boy after seeing Shoto get extremely brutalized by Izuku in the Sports Festival.
