This contains the following tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: Kokabiel forces his daughter, Raynare to commit atrocities under his behest. When Raynare begs her father to stop, Kokabiel blasts her, proving he never loved her.
  • Adaptational Badass: Irina was already a skilled fighter but now she has the power of the Red Dragon Emperor to boost her power.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Those like Michael and Xenovia appear sooner than when they appear in canon.
  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • Raynare, unlike her canon version, genuinely feels regret for what she's done and performs a Heel–Face Turn and sides with the heroes.
    • Vali and his team are already allies to Issei, Rias and co in this adaptation.
    • Lady Mephisto, unlike her comic counterpart, is far more noble and was caring to her Ghost Riders.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Issei is a lot wiser and more responsible than his canon counterpart. Slightly Downplayed is that his perverted nature is still there but because Issei has a lot more duties, this trait is kept buried for the time being.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Vali and Irina never have a significant relationship in Highschool DxD but here, the two have a rivalry due to Irina being the wielder of Red Dragon Emperor Boosted Gear.
    • Akeno and Raynare were enemies in canon but here, following the latter's Heel–Face Turn, the two are close like sisters.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Averted. Rias suffered a damaged left eye after Riser struck her during the Rating Game. She was forced to wear an eyepatch over it.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Danny Ketch is a former Ghost Rider but nowadays, he's protecting Lady Mephisto who is a high-level Devil.
  • Cain and Abel: Lady Mephisto's sister, Lilith joined her nephew, Blackheart in usurping his mother.
  • Cliffhanger: Flame of Fury/Season 3 ends with Blackheart killing Issei.
  • Cool Car: Issei Hyoudou uses multiple cars to travel around. In the first season, he drove a black 1965 Ford Mustang but at the end of that season, after it got destroyed, Lady Mephisto offered him a black Skyline.
  • Composite Character:
    • The Spirt of Vengeance version of Issei is a combination of his canon counterpart and Robbie Reyes, with his use of cars.
    • Lady Mephisto is a combination of comics Mephisto and Roxanne, Johnny Blaze's love interest.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Anyone that has fought a Ghost Rider are turned into piles of ash.
    • Blackheart completely destroys all his enemies. Even when the Red Dragon Emperess, the White Dragon Emperor and the Ghost Rider, who would later be boosted by the Boosted Gear, team up, Blackheart effortlessly defeats them.
  • Damsel in Distress: Ophis and later, Gasper and Yasaka are captured to be used for Blackheart's plans.
  • Deal with the Devil: Issei makes this to Lady Mephisto that if he could get 99 evil souls and Blackheart, she'll not only free Issei from being the Ghost Rider but also release his parents' souls.
  • Death by Adaptation: Issei and Irina's parents were still alive in the Light Novels. In Spirit of Vengeance, Issei's were killed early on in the story while Irina's were already dead.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: Once capturing his quarry, Issei would send them to the Underworld where Lady Mephisto and Danny would deal with the rest.
  • The Dreaded:
    • The Ghost Riders are feared by almost everyone in the supernatural world. Upon challenging Issei, Riser actually worries when he realizes who his opponent actually is
    • Blackheart is even worse with no one wants to tangle with him. It didn't help that he killed multiple Ghost Riders prior to the start of the series.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Issei finally destroys Blackheart, freeing Nicholas from his suffering. Now having complete his mission, Issei is freed from Lady Mephisto's services and enjoys his new life with his loved ones.
  • Fighting from the Inside: Nicholas Cage is actively trying to regain control of his body from the Dark Ones and is directing Blackheart to find strong opponents in hopes one of them can destroy him.
  • Flaming Sword: Hellraiser was a fiery black blade created by the Ghost Rider when they imbued Hellfire into a sword.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Lady Mephisto desperately tried to resurrect her son, Nicholas Cage but this backfired and he transformed into Blackheart.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: With Gotta Kill Them All. Issei's mission to earn back his freedom is to seek out and reap the 99 most vile souls in existence.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The Dark Ones are the ones that kickstarted the events of the series when they used Nicholas Cage as their pawn to free them.
  • He's Back!: Issei returns from the dead and stop a rampaging Irina.
  • He Who Fights Monsters: Issei's friends fear that Issei will lose himself to the Ghost Rider if he continues to tap into the Power Of Hate. Even Issei is afraid what he has become.
  • Honorary True Companion: Although Issei is not part of Rias's Peerage, he is still considered an ally to them since he did join the Occult Research Club.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Although he's not part of Rias's Peerage, he still mounts a rescue when Rias is forced to marry Riser.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: A rage-fueled Issei viciously pummels Riser to a bloody pulp.
  • One-Winged Angel: Unable to bear the loss of Issei, Irina succumbs to rage and unleashes her Juggernaut Drive.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: Blackheart uses the Necronomicon Deus Ex-Mortis to resurrect Devils as undead called the Deadites.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Irina's parents passed away resulting in her being adopted by the Hyoudous and not travelled to England to train to become an exorcist.
    • Due to having the Boosted Gear of the Red Dragon Emperor, Irina would be targeted by Raynare, resulting in the deaths of most of the Hyoudou family with Issei being the only survivor.
    • Due to becoming a Ghost Rider, Issei would not be a member of the Occult Research Club and thus would not be part in some of their future escapades, including dueling Riser's Peerage.
    • Raynare would join Rias's Peerage after Rias acknowledged her lineage.
  • The Prophecy: Lady Mephisto received a vision, showing her that Issei would be part of a group of 7 individuals that'll save the Muliverse. She was right as a certain trickster was recruiting these people.
  • Related in the Adaptation: In this fic, Kokabiel and Raynare are father and daughter.
  • The Reveal: The reason Nicholas Cage became Blackheart was because one of the Dark Ones was inhabiting the boy's body.
  • Spared By Adaptation: The only reason Raynare survived her canon death was due to having information about Irina that made Issei choose to spare her.
  • Super Mode: Issei's Crimson form is where Issei's abilities as the Ghost Rider are maxed. While at first, he gained this form when Irina empowered him, Danny and Lady Mephisto believed Issei could unlocked it if he had the proper training.
  • Tome of Eldritch Lore: Necronomicon Deus Ex-Mortis was the book that corrupts souls if anyone use or even try to read it. Blackheart was the only one that could used the book to its fullest due to possessing no soul.
  • Training from Hell: Literally as Issei and the Occult Research Club took their training in the Underworld. Issei had to train inside a volcano for 12 hours.
