Go To

At the end of the End Times, four of the Winds of Magic (Shyish — Death, Ulgu — Shadow, Aqshy — Fire, Chamon — Metal) are cast into the Realm of Chaos. When the events of Fate/Zero lead to the Fuyuki fire it causes a slight shift that allows the Winds of Magic to escape. Arriving in Fuyuki they become aware of Gaia's presence and seek not to attract its attention. To do this they find the first living thing and use it as a host. It just so happens to be the boy who would have been Emiya Shirou. Due to the fact that Malekith and Nagash fought violently to retain their respective Winds of Magic (Ulgu and Shyish) part of who they were was also taken with them, leaving the boy who would have called himself Shirou reliving an event just before the Sundering. Upon Awakening, he meets Kiritsugu in the hospital. When Kiritsugu asks the boy for his name, the boy recalls what he was called in the memory and replies with Malekith.

This is a crossover of Fate/stay night, The Garden of Sinners and Warhammer Fantasy. It can be read here.

This story contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Expansion: The story focuses on the events surrounding the time Mal/Shirou spent before Fate/stay night. It does so by placing him in the events of of The Garden of Sinners.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Mal has one for Taiga above all people, though he does seem to be the only one who can refer to her as tiger and get away with it. Touko explains to Mikiya that the way Mal says the words Taiga and tiger is almost the same so that an airhead like Taiga can't tell the difference.
  • Alternate Continuity: Though most crossovers and Fanfiction is this, This is referring to the rule that in the Nasuverse there can only be one Mystic Eyes of Death Perception. Sorry Tsukihime fans at the moment the author has yet to break this rule, he may or may not. Given Altrouge's description it may not occur that or she just hasn't confronted Arcueid yet.
  • Animate Dead: Seems to be a recurring theme with Mal whenever he gets his hands on a corpse, that or he experiments on them.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Structural Grasp is still very much a part of this fic. Touko and Mal both have this able to predict the reactions of several characters with ease.
  • Axe-Crazy: Though Shiki prefers knives to axes, she herself all but said that it is only because of Mikiya that she doesn't go on murder sprees. Mal/Shirou can also be one of these though he is much easier at keeping a lid on it.
  • Badass Bookworm: Despite his habit of keep in perfect physical condition where as an eight year old he could take out grown men Mal endorses himself in studying Thaumaturgy under Touko and even before that, taking notes on what he learnt from Nagash and Malekith's memories.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Mal/Shirou for varied use of the word "good". Still some of his powers are downright evil.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: In All this is Mal's only motivation for helping people is because Kiritsugu helped him.
  • Big Brother Attraction: Azaka has this badly for Mikiya, something Mal is not hesitant to tease her about.
  • Blood Knight: Give Shiki an Worthy Opponent and she will be happy to have a throwdown. Mal is more subtle about this, though when he goes to intercept Souren he could have just delayed the Magus but the dialogue states that Mal was in the mood for blood. So he went for a confrontation.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Shiki possesses this like canon. Mal/Shirou has an interesting one as he didn't consider Fujino's murders to actually be a crime until she killed someone unrelated to her revenge. He himself has little to no trouble killing or experimenting on human beings. Also, his reaction to being asked why he is doing something is to reply by asking "why not?"
  • Brutal Honesty: Touko and Shiki have this, though notably Mal/Shirou seems to take some pleasure from the act.
  • Bully Hunter: Mal/Shirou actually makes a hobby out of this, taking it a step further at times turning it into Serial-Killer Killer.
  • Byronic Hero: Shiki is definitely this, Mal can be considered this though he really is trying to help people unlike Shiki who is only out for her own interests.
  • Casting a Shadow: Given that Mal/Shirou possess a fraction of Malekith's powers and the Wind of Ulgu, it should be expected.
  • Composite Character: Mal/Shirou is a strange one, he seems to possess qualities of Malekith and Nagash that were tempered by the distortion in his soul caused by the Fuyuki fire. Though at times he does show traits of the other two Incarnates, it leaves him as a rather new character.
  • Cool Big Sis: Shiki is one to Mal/Shirou in her own way while Azaka makes the attempt to be. Touko can be like this to both Shiki, Mikiya and Azzaka, for Mal Touko however takes a different approach.
  • Creepy Good: Touko and Mal/Shirou find amusement and are known to viciously laugh at the irony of human suffering rather than feel compassion.
  • Dark Messiah: Mal/Shirou's methods and ideology will turn him into this if he was left to his own devices. Something that Touko and even Shiki realise so he has people there to prevent him from going too far.
  • Deadpan Snarker: While Touko and Shiki both have their time in the limelight, in the 13th chapter Mal makes good one in regards to Touko's flirtations with Sakura. Earlier in the same chapter Mal had referred to this as one of Touko's hobbies.
Mal: I brought Sakura here so that I could help her, not so that you could attempt to scare her as you undress her with your eyes.
  • Death Is Cheap: with Touko that is a given due to her talent in creating artificial bodies. Mal/Shirou takes this to a whole other level being able to force a person Back from the Dead.
  • Dem Bones: Only mentioned in passing so far, Mall seems to have over the years he has spent with Touko collected and army of skeletons. Notably, he achieved this without Grave Robbing for the materials.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Once the two of them are able to expel the Crest Worms from Sakura's body Touko point's out that Mal/Shirou will have to let her stay with them for obvious reasons. Though he has a rather laid back reaction it seems that this did not occur to him when before Touko mentioned it. Then again none of his random acts of kindness are not well thought out, which is why they are genuine.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: when he meets Altrouge Brunestud the number nine Dead Apostle Ancestor one of the first things Mal/Shirou says to her is that she has yet to achieve anything worth of remembrance. Surprisingly Altrouge finds this amusing instead of insulting. Truthfully Altrouge has yet to appear in anything but fanworks and has only mentioned in Nasuverse.
  • Drives Like Crazy: Like in canon Touko is a very dangerous driver, though Mal/Shirou along with Shiki don't seem to mind it.
  • Dudley Do-Right Stops to Help: Mikiya fills this role rather nicely. Mal/Shirou can appear to be this to an outside observer, needless to say he is not.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Ayako Mitsuzuri and her brother Minori are saved from some delinquents by Mal in the first few chapters.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: In a oneshot done by the author, it shows an ending where Mal has taken over the worldin the far future. Other than brooding on his throne what does he do? He goes and buys flowers before visiting Taiga's grave.
  • Evil Parents Want Good Kids: Despite her actions in Witch on the Holy Night and her subsequent attitude letting Shirou/Mal go around killing criminals and collecting their souls, Touko is quite adamant in preventing Mal from performing some deed, such as kill Fujino Asagami who he had helped because she had betrayed his trust and killed a man unrelated to her revenge.
  • Eye Color Change: Whenever Mal/Shirou has channeled the winds of Shyish or used nercomancy so far his eyes have glowed an eldritch blue.
  • Fatal Flaw: Mal possesses traits mainly from both Nagash and Malekith, as such Word of God is that he is as arrogant as the two of them combined, and can be rather petty if he desires to be, his obsessiveness is rather apparent when he has set his mind to something.
  • Flesh Golem: As of Chapter 16/17 Mal and Touko seemed to have made one.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: So far when people in Japan in this fic speak they add Honorifics name, though with the plot moving outside of Japan other characters might not.
  • Fate Worse than Death: The knife Shiki uses in this fic has the souls of several rather violent murderers empowering it ensuring that it rarely misses and increasing it's durability. Mal/Shirou reasoned that in death they might serve a better purpose.
  • The Gadfly: Mal/Shirou takes a certain amount of joy in getting a rise out of people, like when he teases Azaka for how she is attracted to Mikiya after she had asked him to refer to her as an older sister. From Azaka's reaction you are given the impression that he does this a lot. His first shown interaction with Taiga is tricking her into admitting she would tear a person apart just as a Tiger would to protect him him.
  • Informed Flaw: On the arrogance part, Though it is revealed that Mal is actually aware of this flaw in his character and makes an active effort to put a lid on it. Even still he can come off as arrogant or extremely confident if he is not careful.
  • Kick the Dog: Mal takes no small amount of pleasure from informing Mikiya that if Fujino knew he was Azaka's older brother the Academy where to two attended would have been destroyed. He is referring to the fact that those two would be the ones to fight. Word of God is that he actually got a kick out of doing it.
  • Lack of Empathy: Averted with Shiki as she can be like this to Mikiya and a few others. Touko is good at pretending she has this but can sympathise with others. Played straight with Mal/Shirou, he even admits that he is by nature not empathetic to Sakura. Though he is rather good at pretending to be normal.
  • Like a Son to Me: Touko has not yet said it to Mal though given from their dialogue she doesn't really need to, but the 'Red' admits that she is the closest thing Mal has to a maternal figure.
  • Napoleon Delusion: A rather non-comedic example at the start where Shirou/Mal after the fire dies out is experiencing Malekith's memories, a rather bad one at that and hears Morathi refer to the Witch King by his name. This was all viewed in First Person from Malekith's point of view. So guess what happens when Kiritsugu asks Shirou his name? well the alternative was Nagash and well let's leave it at that.
  • Necromancy: Mal/Shirou has a habit of animating his victims and using them as familiars.
  • No Sympathy: Played Straight with Shiki when dealing with Fujino, she does not condone the actions Fujino took. Mal has this as well, though he is very well versed at pretending to be sympathetic, most likely due to Touko.
  • Off Screen Moment Of Awesome: Mal's/Shirou's fight with Souren Araya is never depicted, but from the way that he looked when Mal met Shiki, it must have been intense. Though he downplays it by saying that he was just breaking someones toys. it was a puppet of Souren that he fought. Mal even makes mention that the Magus has more.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Mal is clearly not Shirou, sure he tries to help people but his first on screen attempt results in him killing the offenders and starting a police case about the murder. He also is much more competent in magecraft than cannon counterpart and is also noticeably darker in nature. Mal also is rather arrogant but is able to hide it well. Also he has embraced what Kiritsugu told him about when you save someone it means you have to not save someone else.
  • Only Sane Man: Mikiya is this, given the fact that he has a Magus, a demon hunter, a younger sister with a big brother fetish and a boy who seems to be a an Evil Overlord or Dark Messiah in the making the poor guy has his work cut out for him. Mikiya is also the only person to note that Mal/Shirou alternates between calling Taiga her name and Tiger, though Touko states that the way he says both words is almost the same so Taiga doesn't notice.
  • Parental Substitute: Touko is this to Mal though Kiritsugu is still legally his guardian, she is the one who has raised him. Sakura upon first meeting Touko asks her if she is Mal's mother.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: Shiki has a case of this, though she is more interested in killing in general. Mal/Shirou makes a specific effort to perform this, secretly taking pleasure in it.
  • Pet the Dog: Mal does this when he helped Fujino at the start of her arc and continued to watch her even preventing her first confrontation with Shiki from escalating just by being there. He also did this for Shiki when she was hospitalised.
  • Rape Is A Special Kindof Evil: in Fujino's case it is what caused her to start killing people. Mal also views it as something rather revolting and desires to kill all offenders on sight.
  • Sociopathic Hero: Shiki is definately once, but Touko is another, do we even need to talk about Mal?
  • Serial-Killer Killer: note; a hobby of Mal/Shirou, a hobby which he does in his spare time for fun. Sometimes is regressed or stays at Bully Hunter, but usually only with teenagers, who haven't done something like rape a girl
  • Soft-Spoken Sadist: Mal/Shirou has on some occasions, usually when he is in a Tranquil Fury.
  • Spared By Adaptation: not so much Shiki as her arm, while it is damaged in her fight with Fujino being twisted horribly. Mal who had also been persuing Fujino met withShiki and fixed it.
  • Stepford Smiler: Mal/Shirou is hinted to be one, as in Chapter 12 Sakura notes that his smile does not reach his eyes. Though given the fact that he was talking to a group of delinquents may have had something to do with it.
  • Student–Master Team: Touko and Mal have this though, as of yet they have yet to actually face anything together, Though in recent chapters they are working together to help Sakura.
  • The Fettered: Shiki is definitely one, though given her Blue-and-Orange Morality it is easy to forget. Mal/Shirou also is this, although once again it is quite easy to forget and even easier to assume he is The Unfettered.
  • This Is Unforgivable!: Mal/Shirou's reaction to Fujino killing someone not involved in her revenge. Given that he had been helping by keeping Shiki off her back. Later averted as after her battle with Shiki he fixes her up and takes to hospital to recover from. The next chapter which is the beginning of another Arc shows that he is still very much upset about it. Mal's reaction to having one of Fujino's tormentors in the same building as him is to glare daggers at the direction said person is in.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Mal seems to go through this at least once every chapter, the only reason he isn't a total dick is because he also takes a level in kindness. Though this it may just seem like this due to his Blue-and-Orange Morality.
