Go To

Celestial Bodies is a ''One Piece fanfic by 500 Shades Of Blue.

The general premise is that the SI, Valentine is born into a One Piece universe that features ''His Dark Materials daemons. She is Makino's biological daughter and legally her sister. Naturally the SI and Luffy become nakama as toddlers. Garp arrives one day and takes them to Mt. Columbo where they meet Ace and Sabo.

Tropes:

  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: Makino is Valentine's mother. The same Makino who by the time seventeen year old Luffy leaves Fuusha is early thirties at best.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Val is furious with Sabo when he ends up being kidnapped by his parents a second time because he sat down with a Goa resident for tea. Which was drugged, not that it did much to keep him down.
  • Awesomeness Is a Force: Conqueror's Haki. So far Ace has used it twice.
  • Big Brother Instinct: The entire ASLV toward each other. Ace awakens his Conqueror's Haki when Luffy and the others are in danger
  • Category Traitor: Noble born Sabo hates all nobles for their corruption and cruelty and ends up joining the Revolutionaries.
  • Children Forced to Kill: Valentine is forced to kill Porchemy to prevent him from going ahead with his plans for the ASLV.
  • Cool Big Sis: Val is this to Luffy.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Val, being from another world tends to find things that are more or less commonplace in One Piece rather offputting.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Not in person but Doflamingo causes Dawn Island to almost fall into disarray due to a highly dangerous and addictive drug called Dust that he markets in East Blue.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Porchemy and the rest of the Bluejam pirates were absolute scum but even they did not sink so low as to touch someone's daemon. The drug dealer that lays hands upon Ran, Luffy's daemon is another matter.
  • I Am Having Soul Pains: Having your daemon, the most sacred and profound part of self touched by someone that is not nakama, extremely beloved family or lover is this. It happens to Luffy, but being Luffy he shrugs it off once rescued.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Utilizing her manga knowledge Val is able to prevent Shanks from loosing his arm, Sabo from ending up in a burning boat and losing his memories. She also ensures that the ASL brothers have a good reputation in Foosha village.
  • Information Broker: Simmon the shopkeer in Goa is this for Valentine.
  • Harmful to Minors: Valentine worries that the harsh and violent life they live is leaving its mark on Sabo and Ace.
  • Little Miss Badass: Valentine is capable of kicking grown men three times her size into the next week before she hits double digits in age.
  • Mama Bear: Makino was not happy with Garp when he took her children to Mt. Columbo and did not even tell her. She verbally rips him a new one.
  • Master Actor: Valentine is able to pose as a noble well enough to fool Sabine, Sabo's mother in order to get access to her home and get Sabo back.
  • Not So Omniscient After All: Valentine finds out that the drug Dust has been brought into Dawn Island by someone called Joker. Something about the name niggles her memory and not just in the bats and robins sense.
    • This can have potential disastrous consequences since Joker is Doflamingo and the ASLV have been acting as vigilantes in Dawn Island, doing their best to keep crime and corruption low.
  • Papa Wolf: Shanks rescues Luffy and Valentine.
  • Our Souls Are Different: The inhabitants of the One Piece Universe all have daemons, aka animal shaped and interactive souls outside of their bodies. Sabo is the first to settle.
    • Valentine's daemon is called Illyria and he is male. He is such a comfort to Val that she considers having him the biggest blessing of her new life.
    • Luffy's is called Ran and she is the most lively of the bunch.
    • Ace's daemon is called Aurelia, Relia for short and for the longest time she does not talk, even to other daemons.
    • Sabo's is called Selhalia. She is the first to settle, taking the final form of a majestic crowned eagle.
  • Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Sabo's initial reaction to Valentine and later interlude in Ace POV indicates that Valentine is this. Her black hair also has a very distinctive beautiful sheen that changes often.
  • Red Baron: Ace, Sabo, Luffy and Valentine become vigilante 'heroes' of Dawn Island once they grow sufficiently skilled in combat.
    • Val is Red Valentine due to the red vest that she wears and her penchant to beat drug dealers bloody.
    • Ace is Spades, Sabo is Blue.
  • Seers: Very possibly Dragon the Revolutionary. He immediately senses that something is really unusual with Val and tells her that she will leave her mark upon the world. She will do many things but he does not specify to her if they will be great or terrible
  • Silk Hiding Steel: Makino is the only one capable to exerting some control on the force of nature that is Garp. Valentine is more or less made from the same cloth but she emphasizes the steel aspect.
  • Shipper on Deck: Val approves of the attraction between her mother and Shanks. She even gently teases her mom about it.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Sabo's parents seem incapable of getting the hint that he loathes them and does not wish to see hair or hide of them. They hire thugs to kidnap him twice.
  • Sworn Brothers: Ace, Sabo, and Luffy are sworn brothers. It would not be a One Piece fanfic otherwise. They even go the extra mile and bind themselves in blood rather than just shared sake.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: Sabo ends up drinking heavily drugged tea and taken to his parents for a second time. This time however he Took a Level in Badass and manages to free himself even loopy as hell just as Val arrives to rescue him.
  • Team Mom: Makino and Val are very motherly.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Valentine does not like to dwell much on it but Makino likely gave birth to her at an extremely young age.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Valentine to the astonishment of Ace, Sabo and Luffy looks absolutely gorgeous when dolled up with dresses and makeup.
    • She weaponizes this when she needs to rescue Sabo from his awful parents, playing an elegant noble girl to perfection.
  • True Companions: The ASLV. It does not take them long to go from perfect strangers and into friends to intimately connected that they can touch each others manifest souls without repercussions.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Val kills Porchemy, while she does not regret it and would go it again in a heartbeat she is traumatized by the act of murder. Tellingly her daemon Illyria stops speaking for a while and refuses to shift into large and threatening animals.
  • Vigilante Man: Somehow the ASLV end up being Dawn islands Bat Family. One thug even gloats to Val's face that he will not tell her anything because he knows that she and her buddies do not kill.
