Fanfic / Apple Bloom's Mansion

Go To

Apple Bloom's Mansion is a series of crossover fanfics between My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and Luigi's Mansion.

While it has Darker and Edgier moments all its own, Apple Bloom's Mansion is more in line with Luigi's Mansion in terms of flow. If you're looking for Sweetie Belle's nightmarish quest to defeat Specter Yield, it's in the next mansion over.

The series is complete, with Apple Bloom starring in the author's newest crossover, Ultimate Multiverse Explorers.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Actually a Doombot: After capturing Pyrite, Apple Bloom sorts through the ghosts in her Poltergust in preparation for the fight with Little Ghost... only to find that Pyrite isn't among them, since he used a painted Shadow to escape.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Vincent Van Gore was just King Boo's Mook Maker after being freed. Pyrite not only takes this up to 11 as the Big Bad of Evershade Valley, he was the one that killed the Gem family by freeing Bogmire from the basement.
    • On that note, Bogmire is more than just a drippy ghost with shadow duplicates - they're a curse-bearing spectral monster created by the Lord of the Dead himself that singlehandedly doomed and suborned the entire Gem family (sans Little Ghost on the subordination) in one night.
  • Art Initiates Life: This is Pyrite's hat, as the story's Van Gore, but Director Cut (Morty's counterpart in the hotel) applies this power to his movie scenes; the scene in the set comes alive when the camera rolls. However, this power requires Cut's script and cameras to function, rendering it useless for getting him out from under Eternal Rest.
  • Big Fun: Cruller. Despite his skittish, clumsy nature, he was good at being a mall cop and the foals loved him. Too bad a mouse scared him into choking on a donut... a sad day for the foals.
  • Black Sheep: Doctor Applejack "the Ripper," Apple Bloom's great aunt. A terrifying serial killer in Manehattan, she tore open ponies to collect their organs. Regardless, Applejack is an Apple - a family mare - to the core, and the only reason she has to antagonize Apple Bloom is a desire not to rot in Tartarus.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy:
    • Little Ghost's "friends," who want nothing more than to have Apple Bloom join them.
    • Eternal Rest used this to turn ponies into statues in her hotel. Their bones come as a shock to Apple Bloom and her friends, though thankfully she came with a device to snap any still-living members of her group out of it.
  • Composite Character: Little Ghost. She leaves Apple Bloom to fight her teddy bear to avoid being captured as Chauncey, takes over Bogmire's curse and becomes the final boss of Gem Manor, and serves the role of Gooigi for Apple Bloom in Eternal Rest's hotel.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Copper Gear answers Little Ghost's question about Cutting the Knot by brandishing a Poltergun capable of ten beams per second. (She's very proud of it.) As for Apple Bloom's retort shot at her impatience... she has an energy shield.
  • Cute Ghost Girl: Little Ghost. As she died before she was even born, she wasn't taken in by Bogmire's curse, and is the only ghost that doesn't repeat their last action. She was educated by Crystal Ball, but received no moral reinforcement and sees no wrong in brainwashing ponies into her friends until her defeat.
  • Death by Adaptation: Plenty. Smart Spirit in the Gloomy Manor, Applejack and Sweetie die to Thanatos, Starlight's body exploding, Scootaloo being bound to a scooter (and later a robot,) Fluttershy being bound to a doll...
  • Death by Irony:
    • Bookish Diamond Cup being devoured by books, vain Golden Hair strangled by her mane, dancers Silver and Golden Shoes danced to death, the list goes on for any pony in Gem Manor that wasn't lured there by the curse.
    • Fatal Sonata's voice kills anybody who hears it in ten seconds, even herself. When the guards manage to knock out her earplugs...
  • Decomposite Character: King Boo's role as Big Bad is split in three: Little Ghost takes over Bogmire's curse in the Gem Manor, Pyrite acts as the antagonist in Evershade Valley, and the role of Greater-Scope Villain goes to Thanatos, Bogmire's creator and Spirit of Death.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Since Death serves Chaos, Discord is technically Thanatos' superior... but Thanatos warded his castle with the assistance of Starswirl's apprentice Clover the Clever, and the hero that defeated Grogar, Gusty the Great. He does, however, grant the ponies and ghosts a minor reprieve from Thanatos' lethal touch.
  • Little Ghost is hindered by a talisman for the entirety of Eternal Rest's hotel, limiting her to serving as the team's Gooigi. In addition, replacing Gooigi's thermal and aqueous weaknesses is the presence of Crucio-Spectro Energy.
  • Enemy Mine: The brainwashed "friends" of Little Ghost hold off on the pitch on the occasions of Opal Note's "mad piano" trick, Emerald's laser eyes, and Pyrite. Of course, right after the ghost is busted (and in the case of Pyrite, even setting up for the occasion,) they're right back to demanding she join them.
  • Expy: Aside from Bogmire, every major ghost (and E. Gadd) gets an Equestrian counterpart. Among the ghosts in Thanatos' castle are Night Twister, a purple pegasus in a purple security uniform wearing a yellow bunny costume from a restaurant, a brown-maned colt in [[Video Game/Undertale a green and yellow striped sweater and armed with a knife]], and Surprise as a mad baker who turned ponies into cupcake ingredients.
  • Haunted Fetter: The fate of those that defy Eternal Rest, and the primary motivation of almost every ghost in her hotel to fight the gang for the buttons.
  • Horrifying the Horror: After Jump Scare fails to scare Apple Bloom in the attic, she shows him a highly effective Nightmare Night scare and knocks him out cold.
  • Klingon Promotion:
    • Ooga's tribe decided their chief by right of combat, and Poltergust or not, he considers his fight with Apple Bloom to be no different.
    • Apple Bloom uses the Absorber to weaken Thanatos, seizing his mantle as ruler of the dead in the process.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Apple Bloom's adventures each have at least one.
    • First, the Wraiths, powerful ghosts consumed by hate that can damage one's soul. To make matters worse, any ghost they harm or pony they kill turns into another Wraith, and it takes the powers of Thanatos to cleanse that pervasive hatred.
    • Second, when Thanatos meets Apple Bloom face to skull, his first action is to kill Applejack and Sweetie Belle.
    • Third, Eternal Rest, who trumps Hellen Gravely's fangirl status by being Thanatos' right hand mare... not to mention the statues being concrete-covered ponies, her penchant to bind spirits into dolls and torment them, and the fact that she detonates Starlight's body when she's about to free herself from Rest's possession.
    • Finally, there's the Abomination, an experiment of Thanatos that is best described by the author as Castlevania's Legion, made of ghosts.
  • Magic Is a Monster Magnet: Gem Manor's reappearance draws in several evil ponies, including cannibal chef Sharp Knife, zebra supremacist Zalor, and Doctor Applejack "The Ripper" (who is indeed related to Applejack and Apple Bloom.)
  • Monster Progenitor: The Crowned Wraiths - the nine tribal leaders of the three generations before the founders - and especially Princess Rose.
  • Soul-Cutting Blade: Cruciospectro-Beams are Soul-Cutting Energy, which Eternal Rest uses to torment her bound souls. Cruller's water gun, and Green Hoof's watering can are replaced with Cruciospectro-Cannons, or "Polterguns," developed by Big Brain that fire these beams, which multiple Tricksters (and later the gang) also wield.
  • When Elders Attack: Emerald. You wouldn't expect an old mare stuck knitting a scarf to be much peril aside from sharp knitting needles... but you also wouldn't expect her to fire lasers from her eyes.
