Go To

A Tale of Spirts is a crossover with Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar: The Last Airbender by unorthodoxx which starts with the arrival of four "supposed" Great Spirits spontaneously winding up seperated in the middle 100 year war.

Desiring to find their way back to each other, they each embark on their own journey changing everything along the way.

You can find it here

A Tale of Spirts provides examples of:

  • Bodyguarding a Badass: Raph ends up in Toph's backyard of all places and her parents don't waste any time to name him her "protector" which he goes along with until he can come up with a plan to find his brothers and get back to his world. Though he's well aware that the little lady can pack quite a punch and hardly needs looking after.
  • The Chosen One: After Michelangelo appears before Zuko in a flash of light, it's led Iroh to believe that the Spirit was sent there to help his nephew when he desperately needed it.
Iroh: Listen, Prince Zuko, a very powerful spirit has appeared before us at our weakest. A mere day after the Water spirit laid down its punishment. This is no coincidence. This spirit might not even know or reveal to us its true purpose, but you have been chosen.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Zuko considers the man formally known as General Zhao fate to be this after being forcefully dragged down into the Spirit World. That's also why despite all the trouble he caused him, he never bothers to hold a grudge against him anymore.
  • Gilded Cage: Donnie refers to the Fire Nation as this since they were using him for propaganda to boost their own moral around the Nation. So, you could say he was rather surprised they'd even consider taking the risk of something happening to him by sending off to join Azula on her little brother hunting mission.
  • The Homeward Journey: The whole goal of the turtles is to find each other an get home after being transported to a different world all the sudden. Suffice to say it's easier said then done.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: All the Fire Sages seem to be completely enamored with Donnie and seem to consider him a blessing and a very benevolent and just Spirit which just sickens Azula to her core since she can see him for what he really is. Now, we all know that Donnie isn't pure evil but he's definitely not as pure-hearted as the Sages make him out to be.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: After Leo joins the gaang temporally to find his brothers, he unleashes his cringey jokes on his new traveling buddies much to the others annoyance... and Sokka's excitement that he finally has someone to laugh with his terrible jokes.
  • Literal Surveillance Bug: Something Donatello already planted around the Fire Palace in order to pick up new information about his predicament with no one thinking he's listening in. Azula's already picked up on it though with her fantastic sense of hearing and sight.
  • Mirror Character: Every person the turtles have appeared in front of seems to have something in common with them.
    • Both Leo and Aang have strong carefree natures at heart but have to deal with an enormous amount of responsibility placed on them when young: Aang with his avatar duties and restoring the world back to peace and Leo becoming leader of his brothers and claiming the responsibilities that come with it. They Also have a penchant for quick thinking and a strong need for independence.
    • Donnie and Azula clearly have a strong desire for recognition (especially from a parental figure), Lack of Empathy for anything not pertaining them or their family, and the pair are quite arrogant in their own respective abilities. Not to mention, having a very strong drive to "be the best of the best."
    • Now Zuko and Mikey and similar where they can certainly be impulsive and impatient, shares similar self-doubt issues that fester and turns into a strong desire to prove themselves. Not including being emotionally intelligent when it counts yet chaotic.
    • Raph and Toph are even more obvious in their respective personalities with both being stubborn to a fault but headstrong in the ways it matter, tough, and protective of the people they care about.
  • Mistaken Identity: Everyone believes the turtles to be Great Spirits since they're famous for their wisdom and power... and they look exactly like turtles. Still, no matter how much they claim otherwise people around them either believe they want to keep a low-profile, are being humble, or just thinks they're joking.
  • Odd Friendship: Much to the surprise of Azula and Mai, Donnie gets along with Ty Lee surprisingly well since he's been rather standoffish and prickly with them and thought for sure he wouldn't be able to stand her cheerful, optimistic personality. Donnie, however, attributes this to her reminding him of her brother Mikey.
  • Propaganda Piece: The Fire Nation is already a master in it but ever since Donatello appeared before them, Ozai wants to take it farther by showcasing him all around the Nation to prove even the Spirits support his rule.
  • Revenge Is Not Justice: Aang has to talk Chief Arnook out of killing all the captured Fire Nation soldiers after the battle at the North Pole by bringing up that it wouldn't bring back his daughter. It works but only barely.
  • Running Gag: Much to the frustration of all the brothers, no matter how much they insist otherwise, no one seems to believe them when they try to explain how they aren't "Great Spirits". Justified since the Avatar universe is very superstitious in nature and the Great Spirits in question are walking, talking, magic-using turtles.
  • Smart People Play Chess: In order to pass the time, Donatello started to teach Azula, who are both considered to be genuises in their respective fields, how to play chess. They start to grow closer this way as time goes by with Donnie usually winning and Azula admitting to herself while she's always infuriated at the loses, she also relishes the challenge that comes with it.
