Fanfic / Ben 10: Plumbers of Bellwood

Go To

Ben 10: Plumbers of Bellwood serves as a Fan Sequel to the original Ben 10 trilogy (The Original Series, Alien Force and Ultimate Alien), written by DeviantArt user AdrenalineRush1996, better known for his fanfic Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 4: Aftermath. This fanfic ignores Omniverse and started with a prelude titled Dark Endgame in 2013. The fanfic officially began on April 25, 2014 and ended on December 20, 2015, just a week before the 10th anniversary of the franchise. The creator said that he has planned out spanning six seasons of 200 episodes, with the first two having 26 episodes each, Season 3-4 containing 32 episodes each and the last two each containing 42 episodes.

Ben 10: Plumbers of Bellwood provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Heroism: Unlike her Omniverse counterpart, who is more an anti-heroine, Hope is more heroic since her ultimate redemption in the prequel Dark Endgame.
    • Nancy Chan is not a catgirl villainess like she was in Omniverse (though referred as Nyancy on that series).
    • Ditto for Looma as she doesn't become an antagonistic princess nor has Kevin as her fiancé, like she was in Omniverse.
  • Age Lift: Billy Billions is a 35-year-old man in this fanfic, different from his Omniverse counterpart, who is a youth.
  • Bittersweet Ending:
    • In season one, Michael Morningstar sacrifices himself to save the Plumbers, leaving Hope heartbroken and because of this, the team disband for a while to take a short break.
    • In season two, Psyphon sacrifices himself by finally defeating Vilgax, Pierce and Julie join the Plumbers of Bellwood and the Plumbers of Los Angeles merge with Plumbers of New York.
  • Book Ends: The very first episode of the franchise is "And Then There Were Ten" and the end of the final episode of season two for the fanfic has Ben referencing the title:
Ben: "The Plumbers are an amalgamation of an intergalactic police force and a espionage/law-enforcement agency. They existed sometime after the Roswell UFO incident and their main goal is to investigate intergalactic and non-intergalactic crimes in order to protect humans and aliens. My name is Benjamin Kirby Tennyson, formerly known as Ben 10, holder of the Omnitrix and Magister of the Plumbers of Bellwood. As time goes forward, Plumbers will still fight against evil. To conclude this with my narration: There were four aliens when I first used the Omnitrix and then there were ten."
    • The final episode of the fanfic reuses part of the same narration but is partially rewritten:
Ben: "It was forty years since I became a Plumber and even though my days of being a Plumber are over, I'll support them. My name is Benjamin Kirby Tennyson, formerly known as Ben 10, former holder of the Deltatrix and former leader of the Plumbers of Bellwood. As time goes forward, Plumbers will still fight against evil. To conclude this: There were four aliens when I first used the Omnitrix and then there were ten."
  • Continuation
  • Canon Discontinuity/Retcon: Ignores Omniverse, which is considered to be an Alternate Universe, according to Word of God.
  • Canon Foreigner: The Leader, Miriam McDingle, Michael Morningstar's parents, Matthew Harper and Ben's sister Jennifer Tennyson.
  • Canon Immigrant: Rook Blonko, Ester Waterfalls (though her Omniverse counterpart doesn't have a last name), Nancy Chan (though her name in Omniverse is Nyancy Chan), Khyber, Metalhound (though his name in Omniverse is Zed), Molly Gunther and Rayona Harper (though her Omniverse counterpart doesn't have a last name).
  • Car Fu: In the second part of "Click and Zoom" (the second season finale), Ben puts his Mazda to self-destruct in order to knock out the Shadow Alliance Plumbers and also Kevin does the same with his Dodge.
  • Darker and Edgier: More serious than Alien Force and Ultimate Alien combined, though not so much darker than the two since the tone of the fanfic is in style of Transformers: Prime and there are humour in several episodes plus some of the filler episodes are more on a lighter tone.
  • Decomposite Character: From season two, Hope is no longer Charmcaster since her redemption, so her evil clone Dark Charmcaster takes over her former villainous side. According to Word of God, Dark Charmcaster will be not be wearing the same suit as Hope did in either the original series or the sequels.
  • Heroic Sacrifice:
    • Season one: Michael sacrifices himself to save the Plumbers by destroying the Fusion, causing him to lose his skin, exposing his muscles and then disintegrated.
    • Season two: Psyphon
    • Season six: Paradox, who was mortally wounded after being shot sacrifices himself by detonating an explosive that destroys Enigma City and sucking several Shadow Alliance members into a black hole and before sacrificing, he tells the Plumbers not to go back in time to save him as his death will be a fixed point in time.
  • Important Haircut: Kevin and Cooper have haircuts in the end of the first episode.
    • Kevin sports a buzz cut in season two.
  • Killed Off for Real: In Dark Endgame, Azmuth and Albedo die (though the latter returns in season two, but as a clone); in season one, Michael Morningstar; in season two, Metalhound, Khyber, Vilgax and Psyphon
  • Kimono Fanservice: Hope wears one in "Fire Awaits the Rising Sin", followed by Gwen, Julie and Hope in "I, Mutant" when they go undercover as Geishas.
  • Lighter and Softer: The filler episodes that do not focus on either Ben or Gwen are this. The fanfic can be considered this at times, though not like the tone that Omniverse had and more like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
    • Also "Epilogue" as well.
  • Meet Your Early-Installment Weirdness: A Later-Installment Weirdness with Omniverse in "Clash in the Shift" and "Going Back in Time".
  • No Party Given: In "Age of the Plumbers", neither Trent Marcus or Michael Shavers' political parties are revealed. According to Word of God, this was to avoid any controversy if the story would poke fun of either Republicans or Democrats.
  • Off with His Head!: In the season four finale, Dr. Animo's head is kicked off by Ben.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Any main character whose name isn't Ben or Gwen tend to fall in this trope in several episodes.
  • Passing the Torch: "Epilogue".
  • Redemption Equals Death: Michael dies to save the Plumbers in the end of season one. Also, Psyphon in season two.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Like Gwen's brother Ken in Alien Force, Ben has an older sister named Jen, who before, was never mentioned or even suggested that Ben had any siblings.
  • Revision: Like the Ultimate Alien episode "Moonstruck", the two-part episode "Kevin's Redemption" manages to reveal details on how Kevin found redemption in addition to revealing events during the five-year timeskip between The Original Series and Alien Force.
  • Retcon: In Dark Endgame, Hex's true identity was originally Hector Saucerer, before in season three, his true identity was actually Harold Saucerer.
    • The Anodite race do have DNA in this fanfic, thus retconning their previous status from Alien Force/Ultimate Alien as being genetic-less energy alien beings. It's also revealed that females are the dominant gender, thus explaining why Ben and his cousin Ken do not have the genetic powers inherited from their grandmother Verdona. Not only that, they can disguise themselves as humans whether via transformation (as it's the case for Gwen, though she's an Anodite-human hybrid and that she was born human) or wearing an outer shell that resembles a human (as it's the case for Verdona and Sunny).
    • Pierce and Helen are half-siblings than being foster siblings. It's stated during season five, that Pierce's father who was a Plumber, died in action when he was little and his mother married Magnus Wheels, who then adopted Pierce, as he would be raised as Pierce Wheels, while after she married Wheels, his mother fell pregnant and gave birth to Helen.
  • Ret-Gone: In the end of season five, Eon and Shada become this.
  • The Reveal: Near the end of Dark Endgame, Hope is Ben and Gwen's cousin by their great aunt Vera, meaning that Hex and Spellbinder are also related to them as well.
    • In the end of "There's No Business Like Slow Business", Hex tells Ben that he killed Hope's father Spellbinder and that he trapped her mother to an alternate dimension.
    • In "Darkstar's Origins", Michael's actual full name is Michael Anderson.
    • In "Senseless", Joanne is in fact Rojo and is Hope's older sister.
    • In "Guide to the Future", Hope's full name (other than her family name) is revealed to be Charlotte Hope Tennyson Saucerer.
  • Revisiting the Roots: Subverted, in fact Kai becomes Ben's girlfriend not to mention the future in the original series that them becoming a married couple and parents of two children. This was eventually averted by the end of season four, as Ben and Kai mutually break up.
  • Sequel Hook: The final scene of season one shows Eon giving the Leader a lock of grey hair, revealing to be Albedo's hair and the Leader plans to make a completely human clone of Albedo.
  • Ship Sinking: In the prelude Dark Endgame, Ben/Julie break up as they decide that both are never meant to be together,
    • Gwen and Kevin mutually split up near the end of season two.
    • In the end of season four, Ben and Kai mutually split up as they decide to go into their separate ways and remain as friends instead.
  • Shout-Out: The cafe in Bellwood is called "Corgan's", a nod to The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan.
    • In the first episode, when Gwen tries to free herself from Psyphon, she says "In the name of the moon, I will punish you".
    • In the second episode, Ben says "It's morphing time!".
    • In the third episode, Gwen accidentally dyes her hair pink and then sports a headband. Question: Which Naruto character does she remind me of? note
    • In the four-part "Dark Gwen" saga, Gwen sports a topknot hairstyle with bangs, a nod to Azula.
    • Animo's death scene in the season four finale is a nod to Simon Phoenix's death in Demolition Man.
  • Take That!: To Ben 10: Omniverse and Derrick Wyatt, Tramm Wigzell, Matt Youngberg and Stuart Snyder as well.
    • Expect to see a pot shot at the Seasonal Rot that the previous three seasons suffered (The Original Series season three, Alien Force season two note  and Ultimate Alien season two).
  • Taking You with Me: In the season two finale, Psyphon takes Vilgax with him by pummeling both to the ground and as Psyphon detonates his grenade in which it explodes, killing them both.
  • The Nth Doctor: In "Kevin's Redemption, Part 1: Live Free or Try Hard", it is the case for Vilgax's voice to be permanently altered, thus explaining the change of voice actor for the character from Steven Blum to James Remar.
  • Two-Part Trilogy: Subverted; Season 1 and 2 concludes phase one of the series.
  • Screw Destiny: In the fifth season finale, Ben and Julie reconcile after Eon and Shada are Ret-Gone, thus altering the intended future that was going to depict Ben as Ben 10,000 into the future that appeared in the series finale in which Ben is now retired from the superhero life along with Gwen to have normal lives.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: The series finale.
