When Disney rebooted the Star Wars Expanded Universe in 2014, it brought about the official end of the Star Wars Legends continuity. While no new official Legends books have been released since the official end of the line, there are those who wish to see it continued. Since 2018, HandofThrawn45 (Found on FanFiction.Net here and Archive of Our Own here) has written a number of fan novels which are intended to close off the loose ends created in the wake of Disney’s end of the Legends Continuity.

Beginning with an fan adaptation of Christie Golden’s Sword of the Jedi trilogy, which unfortunately got cancelled when Disney ended the Legends EU, HandofThrawn45 has since also written several follow-up trilogies and additional spinoffs, which include:

  • Despot Trilogy – Set in the Pre-Republic era, it chronicles the Rise and Fall of Xim.
  • Twilight of the Jedi Duology – Set during the Dark Times era, this fan duology serves as a conclusion to both the Republic Commando Series and the Coruscant Nights series.
    • Survival: A short prelude to the duology. (AO3)
    • The Dying Day (FFN) (AO3)
    • The Long Night (FFN) (AO3)
  • The Force Restored - A fan novel that acts as an equivalent of The Force Unleashed III. (FFN) (AO3)
  • Hour of Judgment – An X-Wing-esque fan novel that acts as a bridge between the X-Wing comics and novels, an unofficial third installment for the story of the Hand of Judgementnote  and a prequel to The Thrawn Trilogy. (FFN) (AO3)
  • The Shadow War - a Prelude to the New Jedi Order series, showing how Borsk Fey'lya got elected. (FFN) (AO3)
  • The New Jedi Order: The Last Admiral – A short novella inspired by a unpublished short story for the New Jedi Order series. (FFN) (AO3)
  • Destinies – A standalone story that centers around Luke, Mara, and Ben. (FFN) (AO3)
  • Attrition – A story starring Pellaeon leading the Galactic Alliance Navy, and the trials that come with it. (FFN) (AO3)
  • Promises – A fan attempt at bridging Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi by explaining what happened to Zekk. (FFN) (AO3)
  • Sword of the Jedi Trilogy – A fan attempt at trying to write what would have been Christie Golden's Sword of the Jedi trilogy that got cancelled when Disney ended the Legends EU. Is set after the Legends novel Crucible.
  • Jedi of the Future Trilogy – Set after his Sword of the Jedi fan trilogy, this trio of fan novels bridges the more than 40–50-year gap between it and and the Legacy comics.
  • Legacy's Edge: Perfect Night – A direct prequel to the Legacy comics, and sequel to his Jedi of the Future Trilogy, this story depicts the fall of the Galactic Alliance and the Jedi and the rise of Darth Krayt's Sith Empire. (FFN) (AO3)
    • Legacy's Edge: Reconciliation – A short story between Sword of the Jedi and Jedi of the Future. (FFN) (AO3)
  • Legacy's End Series – A four-part series set after Legacy II, these novels act as a fan equivalent of Legacy III, providing a conclusion to both the entire Legacy era and the Legends continuity as a whole.
    • I: The Silent Force (FFN) (AO3)
    • II: Departed Gods (FFN) (AO3)
    • III: Return of the Whills (FFN) (AO3)

The Twilight of the Jedi Duology

The Twilight of the Jedi Duology provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Arc Welding: In addition to including the invasion of Naboo from the game Star Wars: Battlefront II as the climax, A'Sharad Hett's Start of Darkness is also worked into the story.
  • Character Development: A major element of the story is A'Sharad Hett becoming more and more brutal as the horrors of the Dark Times effect him.
  • Combat Pragmatism: Scout defeats Jerec (a Dark Jedi Master) by kneeing him in the crotch when he drags her close to gloat.
  • Death by Adaptation: Ahsoka Tano is listed by Scout as one of the Jedi who died in the purge.
  • Despair Event Horizon: A'Sharad crosses it both when Jereveth dies and when he learns that Vader is Anakin.
  • Dramatic Irony: When Sola is giving A'Sharad and Jax a tour of Naboo she's unaware both that Anakin is Vader and that Padme's children survived. A'Sharad and Jax are well aware of both thanks to A'Sharad's vision.
  • Due to the Dead: Octavian Grant salutes Syne's exploding ship as a sign of respect (which is notable given what a snob Grant is).
  • Groin Attack: How Scout defeats Jerec.
  • Lady of War: Jereveth Syne, A'Sharad Hett's lover and the leader of the Bavinyari resistance.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Jax Pavan is the one to inform A'Sharad that Anakin and Vader are one and the same. This plays a MAJOR role in his fall to the dark side.
  • Protagonist Journey to Villain: The Dark Times Duology lays the major seeds for A'Sharad Hett's fall to the dark side. To sum up, he looses the Jedi, finds a new home with the Bavinyari resistance, looses that home to Octavian Grant, finds out that Anakin became Vader, sees the Jedi on Naboo wiped out due to them showing mercy to Hanna Ding, and gets beaten by Darth Vader. By the end of the story he's well on the way to falling.
  • Retcon: In this version A'Sharad learns that Anakin is Vader before his encounter with Obi-Wan. He also has a child with Jereveth Syne.
  • Trauma Conga Line: A'Sharad Hett's torment during the Dark Times is made even worse here. He falls in love with the guerrilla leader Jereveth Syne and even has a daughter with her, sees Jereveth's ship explode while being powerless to stop it (his daughter lives but he doesn't know that), then he learns that Anakin is Vader before seeing Hanna Ding's betrayal lead to the death of most of the Jedi on Naboo... and this is before Obi Wan cuts his arm off.
  • Underestimating Bad Assery: Jerec underestimates just how dangerous Scout is due to her lack of force sensitivity. As such he lowers his guard enough for Scout to incapacitate him by kneeing him in the crotch and shattering his knee.

Hand of Judgement, The Last Grand Admiral, The Force Restored, The Shadow War, Attrition and Destinies provide examples of the following tropes:

  • Arc Welding: Hand of Judgement works the events of Dark Forces II into the Rogue Squadron storyline via Thrawn and Makati's attempt to get the Vengeance.
  • Bad Boss: Jerec's response to Thrawn's request to make sure no one knows he was there? Break the neck of every stormtrooper present using the force. Dagen Niriz is seriously tempted to kill Jerec when he sees that.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Hand of Judgement. On one hand, the heroes succeed in assassinating Grand Admiral Makati, Isard looses her new Super Star Destroyer, and Grant flees to the Pentastar Alignment, leaving Isard in an overall weaker state. However, Soontir Fel joins the Empire of the Hand, Wedge fails to reunite with his sister, Avan Beruss gets his legs blown off and Rogue Squadron is temporarily disbanded.
  • Break the Haughty: Grant is utterly flabbergasted when it's revealed that Thrawn and Makati were working together behind his back. Thrawn has a lesser example in that while he did account for Jerec's raw power, he underestimated just how vindictive he was, with only Dagen Niriz violating his orders allowing him to live. Luke also manages to outsmart both Miltin Takel AND Rufaan Tigellinus in The Force Restored, leaving both of them humiliated.
  • Bodyguard Betrayal: Makati is killed when the Rebel Assassins reprogram his droid F-4GR to kill him.
  • Bus Crash: Jerec is killed by Kyle Katarn offscreen. Justified in that Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II is a story in and of itself.
  • Call-Forward: Thrawn's encounter with Jerec (wherein Jerec badly injures him with Force Lighting after Thrawn underestimates just HOW much of a vindictive asshole he is) is what prompts Thrawn to look into countermeasures for dealing with Force Users.
  • Dramatic Irony: Makati blames the Jedi both for destroying Cartao and starting the Clone Wars. Both of those were actually the fault of Sidious, meaning that Makati is devoting himself to the same guy who caused him misery.
  • Evil Virtues: For Thrawn and Makati it's loyalty.
  • Face Death with Dignity: While he certainly wasn't planning on dying, when it does happen Grant accepts it with a hearty laugh.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: An unusual variation. Thrawn and Makati become friendlier after they work together to retrieve the Vengeance.
  • Guile Hero: Luke shows shades of this in Force Restored, when he manages to save more than 8,000 refugees by playing Grand Admirals Takel and Tigellinus (both of whom want to capture him) against each other.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Starkiller sacrifices himself to save Vader, having had a vision of Luke redeeming him.
  • Indy Ploy: Dagen Niriz uses one to save Thrawn from Jerec; Luke uses one in the Force Restored to successfully save refugees from being killed.
  • Karma Houdini: Played with for Octavian Grant; while he's never punished legally, one of the terms of his pardon is that he can never take part in war. Since Grant likes war, this means that he spends the next twenty years wasting away of boredom; it even gets to the point where he's associating with Kaerobani and 8t88 (people he wouldn't be caught dead with in a previous life) because he's THAT desperate for companionship.
  • Know When to Fold Them: When Dagen Niriz's Indy Ploy leaves Jerec injured and unable to dodge the Tie Phantom that's landed in his hanger, he yields control of the Noghri to Thrawn so that he can reorganize, claim the Valley of the Jedi and then get his revenge. Leonia Tavira also decides to join the Vong when Nom Anor lays out just HOW powerful they truly are.
  • The Last Dance: Grant ends up dying in the Last Grand Admiral after taking command of the defense forces around Rathelay and leading them to victory.
  • Odd Friendship: Thrawn and Makati end up developing one.
  • Nerves of Steel: Thrawn maintains his composure even when he's literally coughing up blood due to Jerec's force lightning.
  • Pet the Dog: Makati is genuinely nice to F-4GR. He also overcomes his prejudice somewhat and actually manages to befriend Thrawn after years of being distant.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Jerec might be a petty tyrant but he's smart enough to know when to back down.
  • Retired Monster: Grant is this in Shadow War and to a lesser extent The Last Grand Admiral. He hasn't done anything horrible for decades but he's utterly unrepentant and when given the chance to command again leaps at the opportunity.
  • Worthy Opponent: It's revealed that even 40+ years later, Grant still considers Jereveth Syne the most worthy adversary he's ever fought.
