Edward Matthew Lauter Jr. (October 30, 1938 – October 16, 2013) was an American actor and comedian. Starting as a standup comic, he moved to stage and screen acting in the late 1960s. He is best known for The Longest Yard (appearing in both the 1974 and 2005 versions), Family Plot, and The Rocketeer.

Lauter’s mother Sally Lee was a well-known actress and dancer on Broadway in the 1920s. He was married four times; to Wanda Fulton, Jennifer Holmes, Marnie Savion, and Mia Roberts; and had a total of four children. His cousin was actress and singer Elaine Stritch.
