Tender Endings

    Trophy Fantasy
Portrayed by: Maria Bamford
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_4922.jpeg

Annie's deadbeat of a mom, who, right after having her at eighteen, abandoned her with Baba and Pete, died fifteen years later, and after being exposed to a lightning storm, Baba's embalming fluid, and a tear from Annie came back a zombie. The incident also gave Trophy supernatural powers and crotch beetles who do her bidding.

  • Bare Midriffs Are Feminine: Trophy has an Unlimited Wardrobe, and she has worn several outfits that reveal her midriff or her waist.
  • Back from the Dead: A combination of a thunder storm, Baba's homemade embalming fluid, and one of Annie's tears magically brings Trophy back alive again.
  • Childish Older Sibling: Not so much childish but more wild teen. She’s two years older than Pete but Trophy still acts like she’s 16, tease Pete like calling him names, and even use his closet as a bathroom.
  • Didn't Think This Through: In one episode, Trophy had Annie “babysit” her crotch beetles while she goes out on a date. She failed to realize her beetles are now basically her bones because without them, Trophy would literally fall apart and melt.
  • Driven to Suicide: The opening theme reveals after her wealthy and elderly husband divorced her for two younger girls, Trophy committed suicide by overdosing on pills, with her suicide note asking for her body to be delivered to her daughter.
  • Dumb Blonde: Not so much dumb, but she’s really ditzy and horny.
  • Everyone Has Standards: In “Teen Eggs and Scram” she was disgusted when the trouble girls wanted to leave Annie at the paradise that gets teen girls pregnant.
  • Innocently Insensitive: She has a habit of accidentally insulting Annie without noticing . Like saying if she had a “hot daughter” or her birth wanted to make Trophy be put out of her misery.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: She maybe a horny and deadbeat mother, but she was right about Pete being too clingy to Baba wasn’t healthy and his depression for his shirt getting dirty was stupid.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She may be a deadbeat mother who is constantly insensitive towards her, but deep down she truly loves Annie. In one episode she even admits she admires the fact she’s the one good person in their family.
    • Like in “Teen Eggs and Scrams” she genuinely felt guilty when Annie called her out for hanging out three trouble girls instead of her and kept on ragging on Annie. She even gave Annie good advice of getting pregnant at a young age and not being ready to be a mom.
    • In “The Bad Bang Theory” she and Baba reconciled after Baba revealed how her father walked out on her.
    • “In First Date with the Second Coming” she was genuinely happy when Annie was asked out on her first date.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Does not hesitate to show off her boobs/figure, especially with how she dresses.
  • Never My Fault: She blames her former best friend Sophie Bennet for how her life turned out, ie becoming a slutty, hard partying woman child and teen mom runaway who committed suicide, all because she threw the maggot plushie she won as a kid at a convention in the trash chute and because she stole her high school boyfriend. The latter of which Trophy retaliated against by sleeping with fifteen guys in a row.
  • Older Than She Looks: She is 33 but still dresses and acts like a wild teen. She’s even able to pass herself off as a troubled teen in "First Date With The Second Coming".
  • Really Gets Around: Trophy REALLY gets around. She even slept with an alligator! She doesn’t know who Annie’s father is due to sleeping with 15 guys within the ovulation week Annie was conceived, one of whom was an anthropomorphic raisin.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Got pregnant with and had Annie when she was eighteen.
  • Trophy Wife: The opening theme shows her when she was still alive marrying a very wealthy man who is significantly older than her. He is then shown divorcing her and leaving her for two girls who are younger than her, devastating her and contributing to her committing suicide.
  • Unlimited Wardrobe: Trophy has a new outfit each episode.
  • Vanity Is Feminine: Takes pride in her looks and the fact she’s more attractive than her daughter, the latter of which causes her to become insanely jealous when Annie uses her teratoma curse to become hotter than Trophy.
  • Who's Your Daddy?: Trophy doesn’t know who her father is, just like the rest of her family.
  • Womanchild: Despite running away from home for fifteen years and dying in her early 30’s, Trophy still acts like a teenager. She even gets along with three teenaged troublemakers!

    Euthanasia “Annie” Fantasy
Portrayed by: Jo Firestone
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_4923_6.jpeg

Trophy's fifteen year old daughter, who's smarter, more responsible, and more dorky and socially awkward than she is.

  • Butt-Monkey: Gets picked on by everyone including Trophy for her dorky appearance and nature and wanting to play by the rules.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": She rather go by Annie than her real name Euthanasia.
  • Embarrassing First Name: She dislikes her real name Euthanasia, especially since she remembers as a newborn that Trophy unintentionally gave her the name because it made her want to be put out of her misery while giving birth.
  • Friendless Background: In the Bad Bang Theory if you look closely in Annie’s old wound barrels, it’s revealed Annie has no friends in the past. But that changes in “Adventure in Beetle Sitting” where she befriends Javi, Baby Girl, and Safety Pins.
  • Hidden Depths: Deep down Annie is still angry at Trophy for abandoning her.
    • While she acts like she doesn’t care about looks, deep down she wishes she was beautiful, which is what leads her into letting her taratoma curse almost take over as it makes her more conventionally attractive.
  • Informed Deformity:
    • Trophy remarks in one episode that Annie’s boobs are apparently two different sizes.
    • Her homely looks being brought up is also a running gag.
  • Nice Girl: She is one of the nicest people in the series.
  • No Infantile Amnesia: Through out the show, Annie is revealed to have a perfect memory, even remembering when she was a newborn.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • Annie may seem naive, but it turn out she knows the world is a cruel place and knows Trophy is a bad mom. She just tries to see the good in them.
    • “In The Bad Bang Theory” it revealed that before bringing Trophy back to life, Annie was angry at Trophy’s corpse for abandoning her and being dead. She even flat out admit she wished Trophy never came back.
    • In “Sexually Educated“, Annie repeatedly denies that she has any sexual fetishes, despite being threatened by Trophy with a failing grade in sex-ed. Later on, while visiting a knick-knack store she comes across a picture of a boy who looks like her crush Joey Bennett. As it turns out, meek teen boys are her turn-on, though she admits she’d never let Trophy know because she’d ruin it.
  • Pubescent Braces: Adds to her awkward teenage dorky-ness.
  • Raised by Grandparents: She was raised by Baba and Uncle Pete since Trophy abandoned her as a newborn.
  • Teens Are Short: Is shorter than her mom and uncle, subverted with Baba.
  • Traumatic Haircut: Annie tells her mom in "The Bad Bang Theory" that when she was six Baba cut her bangs for her, and they were so bad Child Protective Services put her in a group home for three months until they grew out.
  • Weight Woe: Along with her looks she’s also self conscious about her pudgy build, not helped by Trophy's Innocently Insensitive remarks about it (along with everything else about her).
  • Who's Your Daddy??: Since Trophy slept with fifteen men during the ovulation week she was conceived, Annie does not know who her father is. She and Trophy use a board game to try and find out, although Trophy protests to Annie she’s better off without knowing especially considering some of the men she slept with. After seeing all the potential matches ranging from good to bad, along with getting negative test results from most of them, Annie eventually decides she doesn’t need a dad.

    Baba Fantasy
Portrayed by: Bebe Neuwirth
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_5787.jpeg

  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Has thick eyebrows matching the texture of her hair.
  • Cool Old Lady: It shown that Baba can actually take care of herself and can fight back. Even against her own daughter and won some event in a prison game show.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": Everybody including herself calls her Baba.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She may be strict and smothering, but she truly does love her kids and granddaughter. She even opened up to Trophy on how her own father abandoned her.
  • I Was Quite a Looker: When Trophy becomes jealous of Annie using her taratoma curse to make her hotter than her, Baba reminds her that she was even hotter than her at one point. Flashbacks show when she was younger she had black hair, a more youthful body and no wrinkles.
  • My Beloved Smother: Fit this trope to a T. She never lets Pete do anything on his own, not even letting him pick out his own shirt at the mall and when he tried to without her Pete goes into a panic attack.
  • Teen Pregnancy: She had her first born (who ended up getting stolen by a bear) in her teens.
  • Third-Person Person: She always refer herself as Baba.

  • Lovable Jock: In flashbacks it shown that Pete actually played baseball. He ends up coaching a team of jacked up Little Leaguers to a championship.
  • Manchild: Pete is always like this thanks to Baba. Even when Annie was a baby, he was jealous and would throw tantrums over not getting a bottle of milk like her.
  • Momma's Boy: Way closer to Baba than is healthy, which is a deconstruction, as he's really incompetent without his mom.
  • Nice Guy: Beside being way too close to Baba, he’s actually a nice guy. He’s even close with his niece Annie and always try to help her out.
