Trolls
Main Trio
In General
The main trio that we follow throughout the series; DJ Suki, Branch and Poppy.
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: All three of them are dealing with worse stuff than in canon
- Poppy knows about her sister Viva and feels pressured to live up to her and their father King Peppy's legacy. She misses Viva very much and often holds conversations with her statue. In addition, she is dealing with inter-group conflict between DJ and members of the Snack Pack with no idea how to fix things.
- DJ Suki is dealing with grief from her older brother Eric's disappearance all those years ago and having to raise CJ while being Pop Village's Royal DJ. She ends up nearly going grey when she learns from Branch that Chef killed Eric.
- Downplayed with Branch surprisingly. Here his brothers Floyd and Clay both stayed but he and Floyd ended up losing Clay during the Great Escape.
- Adaptational Badass:
- Poppy has been trained from birth to defend her people from her harm. Her favourite weapon is a sword which she uses to great effect against the Chef and a group of Tarantcapuffs that attack them during the group's journey to Bergen Town.
- Due to training with Poppy and Branch, DJ can use a sword well. She demonstrates this during a Tarantcapuff attack on her group during their journey to Bergen Town.
- Branch is skilled in all kinds of weaponry and when Chef attacks, he ends up fighting her, blinding her in one eye with Poppy's sword and cutting off two of her fingers as well.
- Adaptational Skill:
- Poppy is a well-taught sword user as aforementioned, having been trained from birth to do so.
- From her Troll Ranger days, DJ can cook, sew, do first aid, organise, critter tame and camp.
- Branch is capable of using a crossbow, a grappling hook and all kinds of weapons here in the AU
- Token Trio:
- Poppy is the Princess/Queen of Pop, DJ is the Royal DJ while Branch is the village outcast and survivalist.
DJ Suki
Voiced by: Gwen Stefani
The Royal DJ of Pop Village. She is a Treasure Troll who knew Branch before he went grey in her youth and ends up learning more about him through a series of river meetings...
- Adaptational Friendship: In canon, she and Branch only became friends after the events of Trolls. Here she and Branch were friends (even though Branch won't admit) a few months before the events of the movie.
- Adaptational Intelligence: She is much more emotionally aware and intelligent than in canon.
- Adaptational Nationality: In canon, she is a normal Treasure Troll. Here, the Treasure Trolls are descended from Reggaeton Trolls that stayed with Pop after the tribes separated and can speak Spanish. This explains her frizzy hair which is similar to the Reggaeton Trolls' hair.
- Adaptational Superpower Change: As Reggaeton Trolls are descendants of Techno and Latin Trolls, they can change shape from their Latin/Pop form to their Techno form which extends to DJ. Her ability to turn from her Pop form to her Techno form comes The Other Side by MarcellusMiro66
- Adaptation Origin Connection: Here she knew Branch, Floyd and Clay back in the Troll Cage as she is 23 years old here.
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Her friendships with Creek, Smidge and Chenille are more strained than in canon due to their behaviour towards Branch.
- Age Lift: Her specific age isn't given in canon but here, she is 23 years old which plays a role in her friendship with Branch as she knew him all those years ago back in the tree.
- Amicable Exes: She and Guy Diamond dated a few years before the events of the present day but decided to break up amicably and go back to friends.
- Ascended Extra: Has a larger role here than in canon. She becomes Branch's friend even though he won't admit it and accompanies Poppy and Branch to Bergen Town and is confirmed to appear in World Tour as one of its main characters
- Big Brother Instinct: Big sister in this case. At one point before the events of the first story, she knocked out 2 of Branch's teeth when he insulted Cooper. when she was 4 or 5.
- Bilingual Bonus: Same in canon with her name. She 'likes' or 'loves' Branch platonically.
- Bully Hunter: She will fiercely defend Branch or any of her family and friends if they pick on them as Creek, Chenille and Smidge find out.
- Cardiovascular Love: Averted as unlike the Techno Trolls, she doesn't have a pixelated heart in the middle of her chest. Instead her Wishstone appears instead.
- Cool Kid-and-Loser Friendship: DJ is the popular and beloved Royal DJ of Pop Village while Branch and Floyd are outcasts who are seen as party-poopers and killjoys by most of the village.
- Cool Uncle: Same as canon as CJ sees DJ as her favourite aunt.
- Family Business: DJ is the latest in a long line of Treasure Trolls that have held the position of Royal DJ. Originally, her older brother Eric was Royal DJ until his disappearance.
- Flying Seafood Special: Averted as unlike most Techno Trolls, she can't walk or hover on land in her Techno form.
- Following in Relative's Footsteps: She had to become Royal DJ after Eric's disappearance. Her mother AJ was the Royal DJ before her and Eric.
- Like Brother and Sister: DJ sees Branch as a big brother-figure to her which causes no shortage of grief from Trickee who keeps [Running Gag making jokes about her and Branch's relationship being romantic in nature]]
- Mama Bear: She will fiercely defend or sacrifice herself for her favourite niece CJ.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Implied by Chenille's comments about Satin seeing Cooper in secret.
- Named by the Adaptation: Downplayed as she was already named in canon but whereas there her name is just DJ, here it's Deedee Jamie.
- Not Actually His Child: it's been confirmed that in the year that passes between Trolls and World Tour here, the Snack Pack are more aware about Guy's pregnancy and at first, DJ is assumed to be the mother but it's revealed that she isn't.
- Related in the Adaptation: Here, Cooper is her adopted brother with her and Eric being the ones who found him when he arrived in the village. Ryder, a fellow Treasure Troll DJ, is mentioned to be her cousin here.
- Parental Substitute: Has raised CJ ever since she was an egg.
- Promoted to Love Interest: It's been confirmed by Word of God that Trollex will be her love interest come World Tour.
- Tragic Keepsake: DJ's bracelets are revealed to be ones that she made with Eric. This is revealed shortly after she learns of Eric's death at the hands of Chef
Branch
Voiced by: Justin Timberlake
The survivalist and outcast of Pop Village who tries to keep the village safe but is ridiculed by most of the Pop Trolls as a party-pooper.
- Adaptational Friendship: In canon, he and DJ Suki only became friends after the events of Trolls. Here, he and DJ were friends (Even though Branch won't admit) a few months before the movie.
- Adaptation Origin Connection: Here he knew DJ before he went grey and they escaped Bergen Town which plays a role in their strange friendship
- Aloof Ally: Branch is very aloof towards everyone, even his own brother at times. He has a soft-spot for CJ, though and deeply cares for Floyd, DJ and Cooper.
- Anti-Hero: He's one of the three protagonists in the series and is on the good guys' side but is willing to maim, kill and be pragmatic when it comes to dealing with threats to him and his loved ones.
- The Baby of the Bunch: Same as canon with him being the youngest member of both BroZone and Kismet.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: Same as canon with Branch wishing that Poppy could see how the world really is.
- Big Damn Heroes: Two examples so far.
- In a divergence from canon, he arrives at the 20th anniversary/coronation party and fights Chef, cutting off two of her fingers and blinding her in one eye with Poppy's sword
- When DJ is about to be eaten by Tarantcapuffs, he immediately rushes in and forces the Tarantcapuffs to back off, luring them into a Cave Monster.
- Cool Kid-and-Loser Friendship: He is the outcast of Pop Village who is seen as a party-pooper and killjoy by most of the village while DJ is the popular and beloved Royal DJ.
- Tragic Keepsake: Branch keeps a set of goggles that John Dory made for him before BroZone broke up after all these years.
