    All Combat Revues in general
  • Boss Subtitles: Their appearances in the Combat Revue World Games are accompanied by their names.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: After competing and fighting one another throughout the game, all four Combat Revues become very close allies to one another. As demonstrated in the anime sequel, they will come together if a threat calls for it.

Shanghai Combat Revue

    Xiaolong Yang

Captain Xiaolong Yang

Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara (Japanese)
Portrayed by: Mariko Honjo (stage plays)
"Dreams are nice and all, but yours are just going to get you killed."

The captain of the Shanghai Combat Revue's Flower Division. A hot-blooded martial artist and talented chef outside of combat, he is earnest and friendly to his allies.

  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: He starts off as this towards the New Imperial Combat Revue to the point where he instigates a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on Sakura. After his defeat at the end of chapter 3, Xiaolong starts seeing them as worthy rivals and is helpful towards them in some occasions.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Even in his Spiricle Fighter he goes with melee modeled after Chinese martial arts.
  • Braids of Action: He has his hair done in a long braid.
  • Chef of Iron: He's the head chef at the popular Shenlong restaurant as well as being the captain of the Shanghai Combat Revue.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He wears a black shirt and is one of the good guys.
  • Emerald Power: Xiaolong's civilian trousers, battle uniform and Wanglong are green, and he's the captain of Shanghai's combat revue.
  • Friendly Rivalry: As the game progress, he and Kamiyama forms a strong bond of friendship even if they still consider each other rivals.
  • Meaningful Name: Xiaolong means "Little Dragon" in Chinese and Yang is also the Chinese name for "Sun". He's the leader of the Shanghai Combat Revue and is a capable fist-fighter.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: Xiaolong rubbing his nose during battles makes him a dead ringer for Bruce Lee.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: A friendly example. Xiaolong makes it clear in his final dialogue with Kamiyama that he considers him a worthy rival and the only one allowed to beat him.
  • Playing with Fire: Most of his attacks has flames in it, befitting his Red Baron title.
  • Red Baron: He is known as the Cook of Flames (Honoo no Meshi Tsukai (炎の飯使い)), a pun based on the Servant of Flames (炎の召使い)
  • Supreme Chef: Even with his unorthodox cooking techniques, Xiaolong's food is absolutely delicious. Whenever Kamiyama has some of his famous fried rice, holy light pours from his mouth and eyes as he waxes poetic about the culinary nirvana he is in.
  • Underestimating Badassery: He greatly underestimates the strength of the Flower Division, at least until the aftermath of chapter 3.
  • Vitriolic Best Friends: He and Kamiyama have a fierce rivalry with one another and love to goad each other, but at the same time, they have a great deal of mutual respect.
  • Worthy Opponent: He helps the Flower Division get fully motivated in Chapter 3 so they'll fight at their full strength.

    Yui Huang

Yui Huang

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/huang_yui.jpg
Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka (Japanese), Kate Bristol (English)
Portrayed by: Hirari Nishida (stage plays)

A member of the Shanghai Combat Revue's Flower Division, Yui is a waitress at the Shenlong restaurant. In comparison to Xiaolong, Yui is much more easygoing and personable, despite her initial distrust towards the Imperial Combat Revue.

  • Anime Chinese Girl: With the dress, ox horn hairdo, and mannerisms she's this trope to a tee.
  • Colorful Theme Naming: Her last name, Huang, means "yellow" in Chinese. Fittingly enough, her civilian and battle uniforms, as well as her Wanglong, are colored yellow.
  • Friendly Rivalry: To Sakura Amamiya.
  • Leg Focus: The Combat Revue World Games announcer in Chapter 3 specifically mentions her having "the legs of a gazelle."
  • Playing with Fire: Her attacks has flames in it.
  • This Cannot Be!: When Shanghai loses to Tokyo, she's absolutely devastated to the point where she suffers a Heroic BSoD. Justified as the losing team had to disband, at least at the time.

London Combat Revue

    Arthur

Captain Arthur

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/project_sakura_wars_arthur.jpg

Voiced by: Nobunaga Shimazaki (Japanese), Stephen Fu (English)
Portrayed by: Kaede (stage plays)

The captain of the London Combat Revue's Knights of the Round Table, and the latest in a long line of knights to bear the title of "Arthur". A chivalrous young man who believes in honor and fair play, he is very popular with women in his homeland, but his personable nature gives way to a fierce combatant when in the cockpit of Bridven.

  • Beneath the Mask: Normally very polite when dealing with the protagonists, he reveals during the match against London in the World Games that he's always seen Kamiyama as "an uppity commoner who doesn't know their place." Then again, that could be Arthur's attempt at trash talking as he's back to his normal way of speaking after their match.
  • Chick Magnet: He's quite popular with the women in his native England. He knows this and laments that it can be a problem sometimes.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: His eyes turns red before unleashing the Overlord Excalibur.
  • Sword Beam: The Overlord Excalibur, a massive sword beam that is similar to Saber's Excalibur.

    Lancelot

Commander Lancelot

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/project_sakura_wars_lancelot.jpg

Voiced by: Manami Numakura (Japanese), Felecia Angelle (English)
Portrayed by: Otoha Komatsu (stage plays)

The young shock trooper commander of London's Knights of the Round Table. An energetic young woman who is known as the "Black Knight", she is a passionate combatant who never thinks to hard on matters.

  • Black Knight: She fancies herself as one, and she has the fighting skills and black-colored spiricle striker to go with. Outside of battle, however, she is quite friendly.
  • Blood Knight: She loves fighting strong opponent and Sakura just so happen to meet her criteria.
  • Dual Wielding: Inside and outside of the Bridven, she dual wields swords.
  • Duel Boss: Chapter 5's mission ends with Sakura vs Lancelot.
  • The Face: While Arthur is the captain, a lot of the material focuses more on Lancelot. The intros for both the game and the anime feature her as the London representative.
  • Friendly Rivalry: Along with Huang, Lancelot serves as Sakura's main rival.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Lancelot is a typically masculine name. Justified as, like "Arthur", it is her codename within the London Combat Revue.
  • Hot-Blooded: She's rather excitable, especially when a strong opponent shows up.
  • Nice Girl: Her blood knight tendencies asides, Lancelot is a pretty nice person.
  • Red Baron: "The Black Knight" is what everyone calls her.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Not that she doesn't look pretty normally, but when she wears the concert dress during the concert finale, she looks stunning. The anime shows a casual outfit for her that looks just as cute.

Berlin Combat Revue

    Elise

Captain Elise

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elise_29.jpg
Voiced by: Nana Mizuki (Japanese), Emily Neves (English)

The stern and taciturn captain of the Berlin Combat Revue's Schwarzchild. She has a commanding presence and and iron will, but outside of combat, has a keen interest in Japanese culture, and kabuki theater in particular.

  • The Comically Serious: When she invites Kamiyama to recite the Berlin Combat Revue's oath with her, there are some answer that when given, she notes that it is wrong, but he is correct, much to Margerethe's confusion. The most prominent one is when asked "Where does true justice lie?" and when answered "Sausage", she will say that it is wrong, but he is correct about German Sausage's taste is true justice.
  • The Dreaded: She has led the Berlin Combat Revue to victory in the past two World Games, and as such, the other Revues fear her skills.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": She has a lot of respect for Sumire, and asks to be regaled with tales of her past exploits after reporting to her about a demon attack shortly after her Revue arrives in Tokyo.
  • Occidental Otaku: She takes an interested in Japanese culture, especially kabuki theater.
  • Shock and Awe: Her Eisenjäger has stun bullets loaded in them, which can generate a small area of electric that stuns targets when walked into them, possibly as to slow faster targets down as her Eisenjäger is not as agile as the Mugens or Wanglongs. Quite possibly be a casting gag too, considering the Star-Making Role of Nana Mizuki.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: Elise might look cold at first glance, but she's actually a pretty kind person once you get to know her. During the ending, she doesn't hesitate to thank Kamiyama for freeing her from Genan's control.

    Margarethe

Margarethe

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/margarethe_29.jpg
Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya

The tactical wunderkind of the Schwarzchild. Often cold and sullen, her strategies are often stated to have no chance of success, and yet under her guidance, the Berlin Combat Revue has always prevailed.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite belittling Kamiyama and the team and stating the slim chances of them defeating the Berlin Combat Revue, Margarethe shows a more compassionate side when she tries to snap Elise out of Genan's control and reminding her of a promise she made.
  • Perpetual Frowner: She has two expressions in most of her interactions: neutral and scowling.
  • The Strategist: She's quite good at coming up with strategical plans for her team.
