The Three Heroes

    YOU

YOU

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/image_22_8.png
Ribbit.
The protagonist who takes the place of Kris. A frog who lives in Toriel's inn until they're kicked out and send to an orphanage. Their ghost link allows them to see ghosts from their bloodline.
  • 11th-Hour Superpower: YOU spends the last phase of the final boss slowly making nine wishes, thanks to the falling stars. These wishes all gather together to defeat Manos-1966 and heal the world, also making Noyno the king.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: As a result of The Gift, like with Susie, but it takes a while to kick in. It's almost exclusively directed at Susie, culminating in the two killing each other in the "Remains Uncertain" ending. Taken up to eleven in the "Not Much Better" ending where Susie doesn't get to take them out, and they kill everyone in the newly-saved kingdom before returning to the orphanage to continue the carnage.
  • Driven to Suicide: Presented as an option when meeting the 22 Creations. Also comes up when they form a Suicide Pact with Susie in the "Remains Uncertain" ending, and when they erase the world, and by extension themselves, from existence in the "good" ending.
22 Creations: The frog... the frog harbors deep regret over the last twelve years of life. It only makes sense they'd like to cease through our ravenous teeth first.
  • Kill the Host Body: Goes along with Susie when she suggests it in the "Remains Uncertain" ending.
  • Shout-Out: YOU's facial appearance initially looked like Max from Face Like a Frog put over Kris' original sprite (down to having a black "nose" and a blue lower face), as of the 2.0 update, he instead looks more like Frog from Everhood (green with a blue open jacket, and an acoustic guitar as their primary weapon)

    Susie

Susie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ribbit_susie.png
A violent, eerily inexpressive kid feared by the rest of the orphanage. Like YOU, her eyes allow her to see and interact with ghosts from her bloodline.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: The reason for her violent tendencies. It's not limited to onscreen appearances, either, as all the kids that were scared away from the orphanage were in reality murdered by a possessed Susie to free Manos.
  • Cybernetics Eat Your Soul: The unfortunate outcome of her request for Alphys to turn her into a robot.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She was left to fend for herself at thirteen before landing in the orphanage, where she actually found friends, at least until The Gift drove her to begin murdering other orphans, and her willing roboticization by Alphys accomplished little other than turning her into an Empty Shell. Now the rest of the orphanage fears her, and she's forced to watch herself keep killing, unable to tell anyone what's happening.
22 Creations: Are you saying you've had a worse life than this frog?
Susie: Actually, yes, that was going to be my point.
  • Death Seeker: Susie jumps at just about every chance to point out she'd rather be dead right now. She demands to be killed first if YOU offers themselves to the 22 Creations, and even begs YOU to kill her in the Lodge elevator, though it's left ambiguous whether the last part was just a hallucination.
Susie: YOU. enD me. dEStrOy mE alReaDy. I'Ve bEeN A BaD SUsIe. bAd suSieS sHoulDn'T eXisT.
  • Driven to Suicide: In a few of the endings.
    • The encounter with BAD END can result in her, along with the rest of the party, allowing herself to be killed after the 22 Creations fail the first time they're asked.
    • The "Remains Uncertain" ending has her and YOU kill each other so that they won't be a danger to others; their bodies are later found in the orphanage. Ditto for the "Not Much Better" ending, but YOU lives to go on killing.
    • The "good" ending, in which YOU erases the game world from existence, may also count, as she's happy enough to go along with it.
  • Freudian Excuse: Susie's neglectful mother kicked her out on the street at thirteen, setting off the chain of events that made her who she is now.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: For all her enthusiasm about it, she rarely makes an active effort to to die. The Gift presumably won't let her, the same way it won't let her tell anyone that it's controlling her. The "Remains Uncertain" and "Not Much Better" endings concludes with her using YOU's Gift-given homicidal urges to finally get what she wants.
  • Kill the Host Body: Her proposed solution to the remaining threat posed by The Gift in the "Remains Uncertain" and "Not Much Better" endings. Despite Noyno's hesitance, Susie and possibly YOU subject themselves to it.
  • Screw Destiny: In the best ending, Susie reveals that she ultimately thinks the fact that they have to kill due to the Gift is nonsense considering everything that's happened while she and YOU take a time-out from fighting each other. She wants to Take a Third Option, and is wanting YOU to figure out what that could possibly be. With the damage sound effect playing as the camera pans away, it leads to an Ambiguous Situation that gives the "Remains Uncertain" ending its name.
  • That Man Is Dead: Gives one in the "Remains Uncertain" ending.
Susie: Susie's been gone since a time no one can recall. I'm her ghost, and it's my turn to disappear next.

    Noyno

Noyno/Tim

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ribbit_noyno.png
A resident of the strange new world YOU and Susie wind up in, taking Ralsei's place in the mod.
  • Leave Behind a Pistol: Of a sort. After the Big Bad's been dealt with in the "Remains Uncertain" and "Not Much Better" endings, he acquiesces to Susie's insisting that she and YOU are a danger to everyone else, and reluctantly mentions a nearby empty room, implying they can use it for what follows.
  • Rags to Riches: He was never a prince in the first place, and was in fact so poor his parents had to give up food for him to eat. In the "Remains Uncertain" and "Not Much Better" endings, he manages to become an actual king, though the circumstances to how he even became one are unknown even to him.
  • Team Mom: When YOU tries to kill Susie in the Lodge, Noyno is the only one stopping the two from killing each other. Bonus points for acting like a disappointed mother asking her kids not to act up when she turns her back when he tries to SEND the enemy.
  • The Unreveal: Like Deltarune Chapter 1, after the final boss fight, he decides to reveal his face. Only to back out of it and keep his hat on, saying that what his face looks like does not matter. It's not clear if he still resembles a Boss Monster or not, but his white paws and pink horns are briefly visible.

Bosses

    Lancer

Lancer/Metta

Lancer in Ribbit is a much older, robotic jock. He stalks YOU hoping to get them for a wish.
  • Badass Biker: in comparison to the original version of Lancer, This one actually has a legitimate motorcycle, as well as a gun, to fight you with. The 2.0 update goes a bit further, giving him a red AKIRA-styled motorcycle and a more muscular look with exposed, muscled arms
  • Expy: A ghost with a robotic body built by Alphys. His name is even "Metta," the first few letters of the name "Mettaton."
  • Unrobotic Reveal: Text files accessible after completing the "Remains Uncertain" or "Not Much Better" ending explain that he was originally a ghost, and that he asked Alphys to create a robotic body for him dubbed "Metta" that he would use to seek stardom.
  • Violation of Common Sense: The "peaceful" method of beating him involves slapping him with Noyno's scarf several times via Button Mashing with the "Make Peace" ACT.
  • Your Size May Vary: Lampshaded by Noyno is the fact that he's visibly smaller as a sprite to accommodate being on his bike.

     Master Devotees

Master Devotees

A group of six Motherspawn Ghosts wearing pink dresses that surprise the heroes in the forest, and fight as one from their wheel, replacing Clover from the original.

  • Big Ball of Violence: when they get into an argument they spin wildly while quarreling among themselves, kicking up a dust cloud to create this visual. For some reason the cloud has plant like details (mainly leaves) on its edges.
  • The Dividual: All 6 are independent ghosts that work together as one enemy, and much like the boss they replace, they can quarrel among themselves.
  • Dysfunction Junction: They're a threat, there's no mistake, but they are surprisingly very easy to turn on each other, and are prone to spinning out of control as they get into slap-fighting.
  • Eldritch Abomination: They start off looking like a traditional Bedsheet Ghost, but then:
    • their Bedsheet Ghost form cracks a mouth down its body to laugh at you.
    • a grey ooze comes out of the mouth to envelop the ghost before forming a ball
    • it turns into a monochromatic flower that opens a single eye in the middle
    • and, finally said flower blinks into the full flowery wheel being held onto by 6 pink women, each with their own Nightmare Face.
  • Hilarity Ensues: Asking them about various subjects inevitably leads to them bickering and breaking out into a slap fight that causes them to spin wildly in place while arguing at the same time. Some of them point out how stupid these arguments are, while others will devolve into name-calling and death threats.
  • Laughably Evil: They're a vicious boss level enemy, but the things they say coupled with the method used to beat them make them very humorous in sharp contrast to their horrifying looking design.

Slug Duck / BIG LEGS MAN

Slug Duck / BIG LEGS MAN

Takes the place of K. Round as the boss of Checkerboard. A Very very big leg that initially starts out as a Slug Duck. When Ralsei swears in front of it, it opts to show them its true power by turning into this boss

  • Berserk Button: Swearing, Noyno triggers it as Slug Duck proceeds to get to the end of the board and aquire the crown to become BIG LEGS MAN.
  • Giant Foot of Stomping: Being a giant leg, many of its attacks involve stomping in some fashion, whether it's simply to fling projectiles from the side, or stomp the top of the box to rain them down in clusters.
  • Heal Thyself: being a leg, it uses Gilette to ease its pain. Ralsei assumes using this brand will get them sued as part of an Evil Plan.
  • Mix-and-Match Critter: it's initial form is the Slug Duck, a yellow Slug with a duck face on it.
  • Overly Long Gag: When the Slug Duck gets to the end of the board, it summons a crown much like C. Round does, only the crown drops very slowly as Shadow of the Colossus boss music blares at you. Thankfully after a little time has passed it seems even the characters will be kinda sick of how long it's taking and give you the option to skip to the fight.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Parodied. BIG LEGS MAN uses a bottle of Gillette shaving cream to heal itself. Noyno lampshades that including a stock image of an official brand name is illegal and would get the game taken down, then concludes that's BIG LEGS MAN's plan all along and demands that they beat the boss as quickly as possible.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Once it's beaten and reverts, game text will explain that Slug Duck has learned nothing from this experience before running off with a Wheel o' Feet and a Wacky Sound Effect.
  • Wacky Sound Effect: the classic thumping cowbell is used as the Slug Duck runs away from the battle.

    EveryName (Unmarked Spoilers)

EveryName

The secret boss of Ribbit, who takes the place of Jevil. A shapeshifter who sees the Ribbit AU as a perversion of the original Deltarune and hopes to erase it.
  • Bait-and-Switch Boss: Before getting the EveryKey, the game builds this boss up to just be Jevil. Instead, the boss turns out to be a shapeshifter imitating him.
  • Easy-Mode Mockery: EveryName refuses to let you fight them if you have Courage (which randomly turns bullets into healing green bullets) or Fate equipped. They won't let you cheese them that easily.
  • Exact Words: Papyrus is sparing you. It's too bad SPARE was replaced with SEND.
  • Fake Special Attack: Right before ending the battle, EveryName takes the opportunity to become "Sans Undertale," launching a massive version of Sans' Bullet Hell attack before leaving everyone at 1 HP each and ending the battle, regardless of how many times they got hit.
  • Impostor Forgot One Detail: Whether it be Vocal Dissonance, Something Only They Would Say, or being unable to pronounce their names, they have quite a few ways of telling the difference between the original and the fake.
  • Interface Screw: Downplayed. The latter half of the Papyrus phase has fog appear over the screen, reflecting the fog that appeared right before fighting Papyrus in Undertale. This even makes the bullet board gray, but as EveryName stops using cyan and orange attacks for this part, it does not matter.
  • Marathon Boss: EveryName has six phases, seven counting Flowey and Asriel's separate, and each of them carries a large barrage of attacks.
  • Mirror Boss: Played With. One phase has EveryName shift into YOU. Unfortunately for them, they have very little idea on how to use your battle commands and their attacks are generally easy to avoid, essentially making this phase a Breather Boss.
  • Stalked by the Bell: If the player spends too much time in the fight menu, a warning siren will play, and EveryName will drop an unavoidable attack on one of the party members. They say it's taking advantage of the player going "AFK"note .
  • Superboss: A long boss that needs three hidden key pieces to fight, and said battle goes through much harder and expanded versions of fighting Papyrus, Undyne, Mettaton, YOU, Flowey, Asriel, and Toriel and Asgore.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Is capable of shapeshifting into every kind of character, as well as splitting themselves into multiple characters. However, they're quite terrible at mimicking all of their mannerisms and has a hard time pronouncing the characters' names.

    BAD END (Unmarked Spoilers)

BAD END

A reaper-esque figure that attacks the party after they speak to the "22 Creations" in the Lodge.

    The Final Boss (Unmarked Spoilers)

Manos-1966

A surreal abomination formed from YOU and Susie's mothers fusing together, and the final boss of the mod. It is actually a parasitical entity that was formed in the Field, with the power to reduce others to beings driven by mindless desire. According to text files created after the game's completion, it is the source of YOU and Susie's cases of The Gift, and responsible for the chain of events that turned Susie into who she is now.
  • Almighty Idiot: It's an Eldritch Abomination that only expresses itself by mimicking people and not understanding the thought behind their actions, and does not even have a concept of memory.
MANOS imitates human behavior, but doesn’t get the genuinity behind it.
  • Big Bad: It’s the entity that actually created the MOTHERSPAWN and is using them to ravage the world.
  • The Corrupter: Is one to Susie, and starts acting this way towards YOU later on- using the hallucinations presenting themselves as ghosts of their family members to make them into bloodthirsty murderers.
  • Eldritch Abomination: It's a massive ghostly mass of control that attacks with giant hands, speaks gibberish, and has the power to reduce people to animalistic impulses, project emotions onto others, invade minds with micro-organisms, and turn ghosts into shooting stars raining on the continent. Its origins are also ambiguous, with the only statement being that it was born in the Field. Even compared to the other beings fought in this mod, it's especially surreal.
  • Helping Hands: Seems to love attacking you with these.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: The shooting stars it makes from raining its minions down on the world enable YOU to make nine wishes, causing Manos' downfall.
  • Puppeteer Parasite: It and the MOTHERSPAWNS that broke off from it are the reason the island is considered a "haunted point," a place that turns compatible people into hosts for micro-organisms that eventually turn the subject into a violent psychopath.
  • Shout-Out: Essentially the titular entity from Manos: The Hands of Fate, with "1966" being the year the film came out. The difference being that it's more or less acting directly as a Big Bad instead of through its worshippers. As a sort of mirror to its films notoriously bad acting, it also has a hard time acting as an actual person, with its descriptions coming across as somewhat stilted.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Some of its dialog lines are accompanied with voice lines that state the exact opposite of whatever MANOS is saying.

Other Deltarune Characters

    Noelle

Noelle Holiday

  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: She delivers one in the "Not Much Better" ending.
  • Running Gag: Her obsession with trying to find a Christmas Carol that YOU likes. She keeps inexplicably popping up in various places bugging them about it. This ends up annoying Noyno.

    Rouxls

Rouxls Kaard

  • Only Sane Man: In the sense that he seems to be the only character almost exactly like his Deltarune counterpart. Given that this is Rouxls Kaard, "sane" may not be the best descriptor for him.
