A man who lived in the era of the Great Calamity. He was responsible for uniting the cities and small countries scattered around the Western regions of the continent. With the help of the Witch of Greed, he was able to successfully bring them under his dominion, thus creating the nation that would soon become known as Kararagi. During that time, he involved himself in a regional conflict between Kararagi's Humans and Demi-Humans. He is considered a world-wide symbol of success for merchants and, as such, is a figure who is looked up to by any individual remotely associated with business.

  • Classy Cane: He had a cane given to him by Farsale Lugunica, the 35th King of Lugunica.
  • Founder of the Kingdom: He is most well-known for uniting a multitude of small countries, founding one of the Four Great Nations known as the Kararagi City-States, implementing within it a culture that strongly resembled that of Japan, and being the first governor of Kararagi.
  • Red Baron: He's better known to history as Hoshin of the Wilderness.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: His amber eyes signal his importance as a historical figure and might be a hint to him possibly being a human from another world like Subaru.
  • Trapped in Another World: It's heavily implied he was from Japan, since he was the one who introduced the highly Japanese-like culture of Kararagi.

  • Adaptational Skimpiness: In the light novel, a crystal contains her body, which is covered by a white mini dress. In the anime, she's naked.
  • Barrier Maiden: In the past, she volunteered herself as a test subject for Echidna's experiment in achieving immortally and sacrificed herself as part of the witch's plan to power the Sanctuary's barrier with her mana to stop Hector's assault on it. But only on the condition this continues to safeguard the Sanctuary.
  • Best Friend: She was best friends with Beatrice during the time Echidna still lived.
  • Grand Theft Me: Echidna revives herself in her body.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Much like inhabitants of the Sanctuary, she's a half-blood demihuman. Subaru assumes she has elf blood because of her Pointy Ears.
  • Pointy Ears: She has pointy elf-like ears.
  • Posthumous Character: She died over 400 years ago, having sacrificed her body and mana to uphold the Sanctuary's barrier. Her body is still encased in a magic crystal and later becomes Echidna's vessel.

Emilia's spunky taciturn paternal aunt, who raised her in the place of her deceased parents. She was the younger sister of Emilia's father.
  • Action Mom: While she is technically not a mother, she did raise Emilia for a good portion of her childhood. She was also a skilled ice mage like her niece.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: She was Emilia's aunt instead of her mother, but she was the one who raised her until she was seven years old. From what we see of her in Emilia's memories, Fortuna was a good and caring mother figure to Emilia.
  • An Ice Person: Like her niece, Fortuna specialized in using Ice Magic via conversion of heat through her fire attribute.
  • Male Gaze: The anime isn't afraid to show off her butt in some camera angles.
  • Mama Bear: She gets extremely combative towards her enemies when Emilia gets in danger due to them.
  • Missing Mom: She was a mother figure to Emilia and died tragically when Emilia was a little girl.
  • Mystical White Hair: She was an elf woman with silver hair.
  • Parental Substitute: Fortuna is Emilia's aunt, but they treat each other like mother and daughter because Fortuna raised Emilia in place of her niece's mysteriously absent parents.
  • Pointy Ears: She had these due to her being a full elf.
  • Posthumous Character: She's long dead by the time the story starts and only appears in Emilia's flashbacks.

  • Elfeminate: He's an elf man with an androgynous face and long hair that qualify him as a Bishōnen.
  • Life-or-Limb Decision: He cut off his foot after it was infected by the Black Snake's venom. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to stop the venom from spreading across his entire body.
