Oswald

A blue octopus who lives in an apartment complex with several other animals. Very gentle, polite and big-hearted, Oswald is always willing to go out of his way to help his friends. His favorite hobbies are playing the piano and singing.
- All-Loving Hero: His heart's big enough to match his size.
- Amazing Technicolor Wildlife: He's a blue octopus.
- Big, Thin, Short Trio: The big to Henry's short and Daisy's thin.
- Black Bead Eyes: With slight eye shines.
- Blue Is Heroic: Is a blue octopus who is always ready to go help someone when he needs to.
- Character Catchphrase: "Oh my gosh!"
- Determinator: Never gives up and always finds a way.
- Freudian Trio: The Ego to Henry's Superego and Daisy's Id.
- Friend to All Living Things: He is friends with everyone in Big City, even the non-anthro animals, who he always goes out of his way to make happy. In one notable instance, he managed to satisfy some garden pests going after his tomato plants rather than resort to using poison.
- Funny Octopus: Downplayed. The image of a large blue octopus wearing a bowler hat, and with a pet hot dog that looks like an actual dog, is pretty amusing, but Oswald doesn't act too comedic. Instead, the show focuses more on him being a Nice Guy and Friend to All Living Things.

- Informed Species: He doesn't look much like an octopus.

Weenie

Weenie is Oswald's pet hotdog. Loyal and affectionate, she will stick with him through thick or thin, and is a great companion to him.
- Black Bead Eyes: Unlike the other characters though, her’s lack eye shines.
- Canine Companion: For Oswald.
- Empathy Pet: She inherits a lot of her behavior from Oswald.
- Hates Baths: In "Weenie Needs a Bath", she runs away from Oswald when he tries to bathe her.
- Loyal Animal Companion: It is rare to not see her by Oswald's side.
- Pun-Based Creature: She's a wiener (a Dachshund) who looks like a wiener (a hot dog).
- Unusual Pets for Unusual People: Weenie is the pet hotdog of a blue octopus wearing a bowler hat.
Henry

Henry is Oswald's downstairs neighbor and best friend. He is a creature of habit in every way and usually shuns the idea of trying different things, though he can sometimes be persuaded otherwise.- Ageless Birthday Episode: His friends celebrate his birthday a week early in "I Guess You Never Know".
- Art Evolution: Henry's eyes were lime green, but they eventually turned blue green as the series progressed.
- Big, Thin, Short Trio: The short to Oswald's big and Daisy's thin.
- The Bore: Henry dislikes unnecessary extravagance, preferring to stick to his safe, boring daily routines. Of course, excitement inevitably follow him and Oswald around when they're together
- Character Catchphrase: His motto, "No more, no less," and "Great Scott!"
- Creature of Habit: He always has a routine that he follows down to the minute, and gets uncomfortable if he's ever pushed out of his comfort zone.
- The Finicky One: Can be a tad persnickety from time to time.
- Freudian Trio: The Superego to Oswald's Ego and Daisy's Id.
- Innocently Insensitive: In "Rollerskating", Henry sees Oswald fall into a fountain and comments on the situation, making him feel worse.Henry: Taking a little swim, Oswald? Now that's much safer than rollerskating.
- Irony: Henry is a penguin who hates getting wet.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He can be picky, fussy, pompous and reluctant to try new things, but truly cares for his friends and is willing to step outside his comfort zone from time to time.
- Nice, Mean, and In-Between: The mean to Oswald's nice and Daisy's in-between.
- No Social Skills: His insistence in following his routine tends to result in this. Zigzagged in "Pongo the Friendly Dragon", where he is the only one who tries to be subtle about Pongo's presence.
- Number Obsession: Henry seems to have an obsession with number 2. As part of his rigid routine, he only drinks his cocoa with two marshmallows, although he previously preferred three. In the episode "The Broken Vase", he reveals that he has a cactus to which he gives two drops of water every day and he polishes his Polka Penguins music record twice a day.
- Obsessively Organized: Henry has a very rigid routine.
- Read the Freaking Manual: Henry insists he doesn't need to read the cookbook's instructions to get Oswald and Daisy unstuck from honey batter in "A Sticky Situation". He gets stuck to them after trying to wipe off the dough.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni:
- Henry is the rigid Red Oni to Oswald's open-minded Blue Oni.
- Henry is also the controlled Blue Oni to Daisy's more wild Red Oni.
- Strong Family Resemblance: Henry's cousin Louie is just Henry with a bow-tie. They even have the exact same mannerisms, preferences, and interests.
- Trademark Favorite Food: Henry enjoys eating fish and fish-flavored foods. He also always drinks his hot cocoa with two marshmallows (formerly three).
- With a Foot on the Bus: In "Goodbye Best Friend", he almost moves to the frozen north to be with his cousin Louie.
Daisy

Daisy is a close friend of Oswald and Henry. She is high-spirited and enthusiastic, loves all kinds of sports and outdoor activities, and is ready for anything.

- Character Catchphrase: "Golly tamale!" and "Wowie-kazowie!"

- Genki Girl: Upbeat and always ready to have some fun.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Daisy's petals are yellow and she sends encouragement to the people around her.

- Non-Indicative Name: She's a sunflower, not a daisy.
- Passionate Sports Girl: Daisy is a very tomboyish girl, who's often seen on a unicycle or rollerskates.
