    In General
The descendants of the original elemental masters who fought alongside the First Spinjitzu Master and are currently a part of Master Chen's Tournament of Elements.
  • Ambiguously Human: Although they appear as humans, they somehow can control Elemental Powers. Not to mention that Word of God states that their bodies are stronger and more durable than the average human. Seemingly implying that they may not be completely human.
  • Big Damn Heroes: In the first episode of Season 9, they show up just in time to save Lloyd's resistance from the Sons of Garmadon.
  • The Bus Came Back: After a long absence they are all back for Season 9, joining Lloyd's La Résistance against Emperor Garmadon.
  • Canon Immigrant: Tox and Paleman are both criminals from the Lego Ultra Agents toy line. Word of God states these are the same characters from Antimatter's gang.
  • Elemental Powers: All of them have these.
  • Hero of Another Story: Somewhat. They have been stated by Garmadon to serve no master, but all of them have managed to unlock their own true potential, implying that they have undergone their own respective journeys to do so before participating in the Tournament of Elements.
  • Killed Offscreen: Per Word of God, all of them (except Skylor) during the events of Season 6 were tricked into "wishing it all away" by Nadakhan and were trapped in his sword—in fact, when Jay enters the Djinn Blade to rescue his friends, all of them can be seen in the background. Only the Cosmic Retcon at the end of the Season saves them—Jay doesn't have time to free them, but his last wish undoes their capture.
  • Meaningful Name: A lot of them have this, an example includes the Elemental Master of Shadow being named Shade.

    Karlof

Debut: "The Invitation"
Voiced by: Scott McNeil

The descendant of the Elemental Master of Metal. Originating from Metalonia, Karlof is a brutish, arrogant man, yet a surprisingly skilled engineer. He joined Master Chen's Tournament of Elements because he thought it would be entertaining.

  • The Bus Came Back: After a long absence he returns for Season 7, held captive by the Time Twins.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: Use his elemental power to turn his skin to metal.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Originally starts off as a rival to the Ninja (particularly Kai); by the end of the Season, he's become a good friend, and is overjoyed when they meet again later on.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: May seem rude and arrogant, but has a kind side.
  • Hidden Depths: Karlof speaks brusquely, is highly confrontational, and has a fighting style that focuses on sheer strength and endurance. He also used to be an aeronautical engineer and is able to build a roto jet out of spare noodle machine parts.
  • Husky Russkie: Seems to be from there (assuming Metalonia is the Ninjago equivalent of there).
  • Power Fist: Wields a pair of metal fists for battle.
  • The Rival: Is portrayed as this to Kai in his introduction.
  • Third-Person Person: Does this quite a bit.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In his first two appearances he acted like a jerkass, but is seen trying to help the others survive their situation, and even made a diversion so Cole could talk to Zane. From then on, he becomes closer with Cole during their time in imprisonment, and by extension, the ninja later on.
  • You No Take Candle: Talks like this.

    Neuro

Debut: "The Invitation"
Voiced by: Paul Dobson

Descendant of the Elemental Master of Mind.

  • Ambiguous Situation: He and Griffin Turner are captured offscreen, and it's unknown who among them was captured first, leaving their overall placement in the tournamentnote  unknown.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: He teamed up with Chamille during the Thunderblade challenge in "Ninja Roll" because he wanted to fight for the winning side.
  • Psychic Powers: His elemental power, which allows him to use Telepathy, plant ideas or false memories into another person's mind, project psionic blasts, and Mind Control others.

    Skylor

Click here for her as an Anacondrai
Debut: "The Invitation"
Voiced by: Heather Doerksen

The Elemental Master of Amber and the daughter of Master Chen.

  • All Your Powers Combined: Being the Elemental Master of Amber, she is capable of copying the powers of all the other Elemental Masters and even combining them.
  • Becoming the Mask: Was originally supposed to gain Kai's trust, but ended up coming to love him and the Ninja for real.
  • The Call Put Me on Hold: She wanted to join Kai and Nya in fighting the Time Twins, but Nya told her to stay behind. So she did.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Turns out her powers make it so she herself can be used in Chen's spell when the staff is destroyed.
  • Cover-Blowing Superpower: She outs herself as the spy amongst the Elemental Masters in the Tournament of Elements by using Zane's ice powers in front of Kai, who points out that she shouldn't be able to since Zane isn't even competing. Unfortunately, Kai puts two and two together a little too late as he gets captured by Chen and his forces moments later.
  • Daddy's Little Villain: Master Chen is her father.
  • A Day in the Limelight: The "Amber Spiral" web story focuses on her trying to figure out if her mother's alive.
  • Elemental Fusion: Skylor can combine the elemental powers she copied, though using more than one element at a time tends to be exhausting for her. She once combined Shadow and Light to make the resistance undetectable to Garmadon.
  • Fiery Redhead: More subdued, but she isn't one to mince words.
  • Foreshadowing: She is dressed in a ninja outfit. She foreshadows the sixth Ninja being female, although it's confirmed to be Nya rather than Skylor.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Despite being an elemental master, at no point during her appearance in Season 6 does she use any of her powers at all (though conversations in later seasons suggest she can only possess any elemental powers she absorbs for a limited period of time).
  • Guest-Star Party Member: In Season 6, Jay recruits her for the final fight against Nadakhan. In Season 9, she's part of La Résistance.
  • High-Heel–Face Turn: Begins to legitimately fall for Kai, and after her father shows little concern for her life, she joins Kai in his plan to trick Chen. Somewhat justified, however, because she was already reluctant to obey her father, to begin with.
  • Irony: Her power is the same as what her father is trying to achieve with the staff, except the person she gets her powers from keeps theirs.
  • The Mole: Gets close to the ninja on orders from her father, Master Chen.
  • Official Couple: With Kai.
  • Possession Implies Mastery: Nope. Just because she has someone's power doesn't mean she necessarily knows how to use it. And in the case of Destruction, just having the element leads to health issues.
  • Power Copying: As noted above, she is the Elemental Master of Amber, which allows her to copy the elements of other Elemental Masters. It also allows her to combine the elements.
  • Relationship Upgrade: A brief shot at the end of Season 9 implies she and Kai are now a couple. That said, her only appearances since then are cameos, so it's not exactly clear. Crystalized hints that they've taken the next step after the final battle against the Crystal King.
  • Snake People: Due to having been a member of the Anacondrai Cultists, she becomes an Anacondrai once Chen's spell is complete.
  • Technicolor Ninja: Wears a ninja outfit that is bright orange. In Season 6, she's also mixed it up with a little red.

The Elemental Master of Gravity

  • Gravity Master: His element allows him to move things like telekinesis.

The Elemental Master of Sound.

    Shade

Debut: "The Invitation"

The Elemental Master of Shadow

  • Casting a Shadow: His element.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Considering shadow is a dark element, he became an ally to the Ninja.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Not the nicest guy, but becomes a good ally to the ninja...eventually.
  • Invisibility: His element allows him to be undetectable when in shadows.
  • Shadow Walker: His element allows him to travel between two different places through the shadows.
  • Ship Tease: A subtle one with Nya during Season 9. When he and the other Elemental Masters meet back up with Lloyd and Nya, he greets her with "Hello gorgeous!"

    Paleman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mr_pale.png
Debut: "The Invitation"
Voiced by: Kirby Morrow

Also goes by Mr. Pale. He is the Elemental Master of Light. Like Toxikita, he originally came from Ultra Agents, where he was called Invizable.

  • Adaptational Heroism: In Ultra Agents, he was one of the super-villains. Here when told the truth about Master Chen, not only did he join in Lloyd's defense, but he was the first to say he will drop out of the tournament if Lloyd gets eliminated.
  • Elimination Houdini: Originally, he was set to fight Jay in the tournament's first round. Because Jay was instead forced to fight Cole, and because Karlof's elimination in the preliminaries left an odd number of participants in the first round (the two remaining participants, Shade and Tox, were made to fight each other), Paleman is the only Elemental Master who didn't have to fight anyone at all (besides the opening Jadeblade hunt), advancing to the second round without a match to his name.
  • Invisibility: He is completely invisible aside from his clothes.
  • Light 'em Up: True to his title, Paleman is able to manipulate light.

    Griffin Turner

Debut: "The Invitation"
Voiced by: Doron Bell Jr.

The Elemental Master of Speed.

  • Ambiguous Situation: He and Neuro are captured offscreen, and it's unknown who among them was captured first, leaving their overall placement in the tournamentnote  unknown.
  • Expy: Of The Flash from DC Comics.
  • Nice Guy: He's helpful towards the Ninja and when Chen accused Lloyd of cheating in the rollerblade challenge, he was the first to defend Lloyd.
  • Super-Speed: His elemental power.

    Ash
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ash_4.png
Debut: "The Invitation"
Voiced by: Brent Miller

Elemental Master of Smoke.

  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: With Cinder taking Ash's place as the Elemental Master of Smoke in the Dragons Rising series, there is no word of whatever happened to Ash ever since.
  • Evil Laugh: More mischievous than evil during his fight with Kai.
  • The Quiet One: While he has been heard grunting while fighting and laughing at others, he only says one word out of all of his appearances ("Smoke!"), and it's extremely difficult to hear due to the background music and the other Elemental Masters calling out the names of their elements as they summon their Elemental Dragons.
  • Super Smoke: His elemental power.
  • Teleportation: His elemental power allows him to teleport short distances by turning into smoke.

    Bolobo

Debut: "The Invitation"
Voiced by: Michael Adamthwaithe

Elemental Master of Nature.

  • Badass in Distress: Was stated to have been one of the Elemental Masters who got captured by the Sons of Garmadon sometime after they took over Ninjago City.
  • Earthy Barefoot Character: Is the Elemental Master of Nature and has no shoes.
  • Green Thumb: His elemental powers allow him to grow and control vines.

    Tox
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tox_s9.png
Debut: "The Invitation"
Voiced by: Ian James Corlett (Season 4), Maggie Blue O'Hara (Season 9)

She is the Elemental Master of Poison. Like Paleman, she originally came from Ultra Agents.

  • Adaptational Heroism: She was a villain in Ultra Agents, but here she, while starting out as an enemy to the ninja, was never truly evil and eventually joins them.
  • Hollywood Acid: One of her powers.
  • Poisonous Person: Her elemental power.
  • Suddenly Speaking: Silent in Season 4, she gets a proper speaking role upon returning in Season 9.
  • Those Two Girls: Frequently seen with Chamille; in fact when Chamille is eliminated Tox is eliminated off screen before the beginning of the next episode.

Elemental Master of Form.

  • The Bus Came Back: Returns in "Amber Spiral" after being absent since Season 4.
  • Jerkass: Definitely qualifies. She may have gone bad after the Sons of Garmadon took over Ninjago City.
  • Punny Name: A play on the word "chameleon" as a reference to her Form powers.
  • Out of Focus: While none of the masters get a lot of focus, she is an unusual example as her powers get more focus after Skylor copies them.
    • Played straight come Season 9 as she's one of the few Elemental Masters who didn't join La Résistance.
  • Shapeshifting: Her element's main power is this.
  • Those Two Girls: Often seen with Tox, who was the sole person to side with her towards the end of her and Lloyd's fight.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Is the most antagonistic of the Elemental Masters. She even has an off-screen Face–Heel Turn before Season 9.
