Maxie is a human of noble birth who moonlights as a vampire hunter captain, despite her disapproving father only wanting her to prepare for marriage. Louis is a timid vampire who cannot bring himself to drink human blood, despite being son to the vampire clan's chief. After his brothers kick him out for this perceived weakness, he wanders in the forest, where he runs into Maxie on a hunt. During the ensuing chase, Maxie catches him in an invisible snare and the two tumble off a cliff.
When Maxie wakes up, she has lost her memory of who she is, and comes under the impression that Louis is her fiancé. Unable to leave her due to the snare, he goes along with the story.

- Almost Kiss: Maxie comes close to kissing Louis a couple times while amnesiac, only for something to interrupt them at the last second.
- Arranged Marriage: Maxie is engaged to an earl, André Duwell, which was arranged by their families.

- The Dreaded: Maxie is known among vampires as the leader of the hunters, and Louis and Shasha are both scared of her.
- Effortless Amazonian Lift: In episode 10, Maxie effortlessly picks up Louis in a Bridal Carry when he is tired from their journey. In episode 24, she picks up Louis and Pierre — one in each arm — to get them away from the gloos.
- Group-Identifying Feature: The insignia on the back of Maxie's neck marks her as a vampire hunter.
- Identity Amnesia: Maxie forgets her identity as a vampire hunter. She even comes to the impression that she is a vampire.
- Lap Pillow: In episode 3, Maxie rests her head on Louis' lap while believing him to be her fiancé.
- Lightning Glare: In episode 10, when Maxie and Shasha fight over Louis, they glare at each other with sparks meeting in the middle.
- Line-of-Sight Name: When Maxie asks Louis her name, he doesn't want to tell her her real name in case it jogs her memory. He looks around, but fails to spot anything inspiring until his gaze lands on the daisies outside the window, and he tells her her name is Daisy.Louis: [internally] Think of a name, quick! [looking around] Dust?! Trash?! Axe?! Those are all ridiculous!!
- Love at First Sight: André becomes smitten with Shasha the second he lays eyes on her.
- Monster/Slayer Romance: A romance between a vampire and a vampire hunter, although the hunter is unaware of their respective natures due to amnesia.
- My Instincts Are Showing: Shasha is a vegetarian vampire and scared of Maxie, but when she gets a whiff of her blood, she enters a trance and repeatedly rushes her to try and bite her.
- Shapeshifting Excludes Clothing: The shapeshifting pills temporarily turn werewolves into small dogs. Clothing is not included in the transformations.
- Vampire Hunter: Since vampires prey on humans, some humans hunt down vampires. Maxie is the hunter leader.
- Vampiric Werewolf: Gloos are vampire-werewolf hybrids with the basest instincts of both species, rendering them savage.
- Vegetarian Vampire: Some vampires are "vegetarians", refusing to feed on humans and only drinking the blood of dead animals. Shasha's village is made up entirely of vegetarian vampires.
