My Dictator Boyfriend is a webcomic by Guy and Teo (who is also one of the teams who creates Adventures of God) on Webtoon. It follows the daily life of Dictator Immanuel the First of Taugilia as he navigates his duties as the supreme leader of Taugilia, his issues with his father, former Dictator Gyorg, and his love life. The last is the most complicated, as Taugilia's government has issues with LGBT+ people, and he just happens to be dating his male bodyguard…

Oh, and said bodyguard, JJ, is a member of the revolution attempting radical change in the country.

It can be found here.

My Dictator Boyfriend Features the Following Tropes:

  • Ambition Is Evil: During the flashbacks to Yvan's reign exploring the origin story of Margo, it turns out that Anna has this. Her driving ambition ends up causing a great deal of heartache and causes at least one Start of Darkness.
  • Armored Closet Gay: Margo Trench.
  • Art Evolution: As the comic goes on, the lines become more pronounced and the comic begins to look more cartoony.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Margo and Maxwell, who apparently hook up on occasion. He shows signs of being attracted to her, though there may be some Incompatible Orientation on her part...
  • Bodyguard Crush: Manny has a romantic relationship with his bodyguard JJ.
  • Characterization Marches On: Krys/Immanuela. She goes from a running gag fangirl to a major, multifaceted character.
  • Cerebus Retcon: JJ teases Immanuel for his love of mustard and the ridiculous amounts he puts on his food. Turns out his terminally ill mother, whose unnamed disease included loss of taste as a symptom, put a ton of it in the food she made for young Manny.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: The comic slowly grows darker and more serious as it goes on, though there were always more serious elements (see: flashbacks to Immanuel's childhood with a sick mother, etc).
  • Driven to Suicide: Philip Dreg.
  • Dysfunction Junction: The cabinet has shades of this.
  • Expy: More than one person has noticed that Gabriel de Mada is basically a redheaded Gabe from Adventures of God. Fitting, given the two comics share a writer.
  • Fantastic Racism: Against the Upamians, a rival nation whom they've subjugated. Upamians are treated as second-class citizens.
  • Important Haircut: In the flashback where Margo and Anna are lovers, Margo promises Anna that she will never cut her hair. After Anna breaks her heart, Margo cuts her hair... but not before traumatic memories of her promise send her into a literally murderous rage.
  • Iron Lady: Margo. For added pun value, she has metal arms.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Maxwell Spinn is a downplayed example. While he's definitely got his quirks, he's the sanest member of the cabinet (not that that's hard). He also provides bits of wisdom here and there.
  • Secret-Keeper: Krys for Immanuel. He voluntarily admits the Hill of Goats Story is false. She walks in on Immanuel and JJ during "Executive Time". She's a very effective one too.
  • Sleeping with the Boss: When Maxwell was working as an intern in Margo's office years ago, she took him to bed to secure his loyalty and admiration.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: A national one for the Taugilians: cheese!
    • The Upamians also have a trademark favorite food, namely ham.
    • Immanuel himself has a specific one, namely mustard.
  • Unusual Euphemism: "Executive Time" for JJ and Immanuel's, ah romantic encounters.
