    Boggy

Hugo “Boggy” Bogson

Played by Jonnie Kimmins

Boggy is best friends with Jamie, though they have little in common as Boggy does not play football and prefers spending free time playing chess.

  • The Ace: Boggy excels at pretty much everything, except football. He overachieves in all his schoolwork, is brilliant at chess, takes his A-Levels 2 years early and actually is pretty decent at some sports, at least at basketball.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Jamie.
  • Nerd Glasses: Boggy is a chess geek and wears glasses to add more to the stereotype.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The Sensitive guy to Jamie’s Manly man.

    Dillon

Dillon Simmonds

Played by Patrick Ward

Dillon is a bully who plays football with Jamie.

  • Abusive Parent: Dillon’s father tries to relive his glory days as a Jerk Jock through Dillon, apparently yelled at him after he got kicked out of Hawkstone Academy, kicks him out of their house when he comes out to him, and even tried to stop him signing to play for Fauxborough. His father later accepts Dillon’s sexuality but his dad is hardly a good parent to Liam still, and it’s implied Dillon and his dad are still not on great terms.
  • Alpha Bitch: Dillon is a male version of this.
  • The Bully: He is the Jerk Jock of the school.
  • Closet Gay: He comes out as gay in series 5, with the help of a boy called Elliot who is openly gay. They later start dating in series 6.
  • Hate Sink: Downplayed. Dillon start off as a bullying antagonist, but as seasons go on, it's obvious that he’s not supposed to be loathsome and is just a kid (not that that would stop the audience).
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Dillon bullies other students because he thinks it’s funny, and he initially does not accept Jack as his teammate in season 1. However, in season 3 he refuses to steal a bike when Jethro tries pressuring him and Jamie. Jamie reluctantly agreed, but Dillon genuinely didn’t fancy stealing someone else’s property, showing good morals. As well as that, by season 4, 5 and 6 he gets along well with pretty much everyone.
  • Jerk Jock: Was in series 1 and 2, and a bit in series 3.

    Mike

Mike Johnson

Played by Tim Dantay

Mike is the supportive grandfather of Jamie and the father of Karen. He formerly played for Hawkstone United.

  • Cool Old Guy: He may be old, but Jamie and some of his friends look up to him.
  • Jerk Jock: Although he is very nice now, it’s implied he wasn’t so nice in his youth.

    Karen

Karen Johnson

Played by Emma Stansfield

Karen is the mother of Jamie, having recently divorced her husband Ian. She is also a Nurse at the local hospital.

  • Mama Bear: Very protective of her son, especially when it comes to his father, who she believes is an awful influence.

    Indira

Indira Cave

Played by Millie Gibson

Indira is the most popular girl in school.

  • Alpha Bitch: Indira is the most popular girl in school, and will gossip about anything she can, unable to keep a secret. However, overall she is a nice person, she’s just very bubbly. Thus making her more of a Lovable Alpha Bitch.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl to Zoe’s Tomboy.

    Zoe

Zoe Moore

Played by Maddie Murchison

Zoe is a fiery footballer with a lot of attitude. She is the main carer for her mother, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis.

    Harry

Harry Armstrong

Played by Theo Chapman

Harry is best friends with Dillon and joins in on bullying their peers. He is also the grandson of Mr Hansard.

  • Beta Bitch: Harry bullies other students just like Dillon, however he actually has many less redeeming qualities than Dillon.
  • Hate Sink: Subverted. Harry starts off as a bullying antagonist (who’s meaner than Dillon), but as seasons go on, it's obvious that he’s not supposed to be loathsome and is just a kid (not that that would stop the audience).
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Harry is a smaller example, as he doesn’t show many redeeming qualities, but he did accept Jamie as his teammate briefly, before Dillon joined them and quickly took it back.
  • Jerk Jock: On the school football team and is meaner than Dillon.
  • Put on a Bus: Harry moves away to Coventry sometime between seres 2 and 3 as his mum got a new job.

    Mr Hansard

Hilary Hansard

Played by Brian Bovell

  • Cool Teacher : He is overall a fair teacher, several of his students not wanting him fired.
  • Jerk Jock: It’s implied he was one in his youth.

    Nancy

Nancy Simmonds

Played by Ellie Daley

Nancy is Boggy’s girlfriend in the few first seasons and Dillon’s cousin.

    Alba

Alba Osbourne

Played by Elena Cole

Alba is a strong girl who is very tomboyish and in foster care with her older sister.

  • Abusive Parent: Alba never knew her biological father, and her biological mother used to smash things in front of Alba and mistreated her daughters, however Ruby would protect Alba from her (despite being younger than Alba was when she told the story). Fortunately, they were fostered and later adopted by a nice couple, Becky and Dawn.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: She starts off as the only girl for the Under 14’s Phoenix team, and is proud of it.
  • Mama Bear: She has no children and is only a teenager, but she’s very protective of her two foster mothers.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Alba is the Tomboy to Aisha’s Girly girl.

    Liam

Liam Simmonds

Played by Haydn Craven

Liam is the younger brother of Dillon.

  • Abusive Parent: Despite all of his hard work, Liam’s father treats him like he is lazy, and is vile to him behind closed doors.
  • Alpha Bitch: Liam is a male version of this.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Betty to Brooklyn’s Veronica. Competing for the affections of Bex, the Archie. Bex and Liam start dating some time between series 6 and 7, and they seem perfectly committed and happy together. It turns out Bex isn’t as loyal as Liam is and is cheating on him with the Captain of the Hawkstone Youth team, Brooklyn.
  • Enemy Mine: Liam and Alba may think they don’t have anything in common, but they both have gone through similar things. Alba’s biological mother was an Abusive Parent, just like Liam’s Dad.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Liam has lots of friends, who are not even that keen on him.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Has dirty blonde hair and ultimately becomes thi in series 7.
  • Hate Sink: In series 4, Liam is portrayed as a homophobic Jerkass, but series 5 and 6 portrays him in a more positive light, with him dealing with issues that most of the team don’t have to go through.
  • Henpecked Husband: He begins a relationship with Bex sometime between the series 6 finale and the next month. Bex has taken up Yoga and Liam is doing it with her. As well as that, Bex has gone vegan and so has Liam, Bex likes the vegan diet, Liam doesn’t seem to as much. This implies he has taken up these new hobbies and dieting to please his girlfriend.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Liam made a homophobic comment about Alba’s two mothers, leading him to be kicked out of Phoenix. A year later he genuinely apologises and does try to befriend Alba, Eric and Freddie, but none of them are interested. In series 6 he and Alba are rivals again, but Liam has a valid reason for this now. As well as that, he does have to put up with his father, an Abusive Parent.
  • Jerk Jock: Possibly more so than his older brother.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: He genuinely does feel guilty about what he said about Alba’s two mothers, but after she rejects his offer of a truce, he doesn’t regret who he said it to.

    Freddie

Freddie Seo

Played by Keaton Edmund

Freddie is the funny and slightly dim best friend of Alba.

  • Broken Bird: After receiving a racist comment from one of the Seagate Lion supporters.

    Eric

Eric Atlee

Played by Morgan Hudson

  • Parental Neglect: After his twin brother died, his mother was so grief-stricken that she abandoned Eric and his father as a result.
  • Put on a Bus: In series 6 it is mentioned that he has moved to London with his father. It’s mentioned he has made new friends, joined a new Football club in London and is having a long distance relationship with Aisha. He also lost touch with Alba and Freddie.

    Ruby

Ruby Osbourne

Played by Zoe Hall

Alba’s older sister.

  • Abusive Parent: Ruby never knew her biological father, and her biological mother used to smash things in front of her and Alba and mistreated her daughters, however Ruby would protect Alba from her (despite being younger than Alba was when she told the story). Fortunately, they were fostered and later adopted by a nice couple, Becky and Dawn.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Ruby is unconventionally feminine, but she does enjoy being in goal for Phoenix.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Sienna.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Tomboy to Sienna’s Girly Girl, however Ruby herself is quite traditionally girly herself.

    Sienna

Sienna Jones

Played by Ellie Botterill

    Kasia

Kasia Antol

Played by Ellie Malone

    Tayo

Tayo Akinola

Played by Jermaine Muganiwa

    Bex

Bex Harris

Played by Gracie Grosvenor
  • Betty and Veronica: The Archie to Liam’s Betty and Brooklyn’s Veronica. Some time between series 6 and 7 she starts dating Liam. They seem like utter sweethearts, however during the Futurball Cup, after meeting Brooklyn, the Captain of Hawkstone Academy, she starts cheating on Liam with Brooklyn.
    • She could also be considered the Veronica to Alba’s Betty and Liam’s Archie. When Alba tells Liam she caught Bex cheating on him, he has a panic attack. After he calms down, they talk about their past as enemies. Liam admits that he always admired Alba for her courage and stubbornness, and Alba admits she always admired him not caring what other people said about him. After they both lament about not becoming friendly sooner, they lean in together. However, Boggy walks in before anything can happen.
  • Dancing Is Serious Business: Bex takes her football very seriously. Though she does celebrate and can have a joke, she is stricter than Alba. As well as that, she agrees and prefers Liam as a captain because Liam and her have the same ambitions; to win no matter what. When Phoenix win against the Seagate Lions in the series 6 finale, though she and Liam do celebrate, they secretly talk badly about them for being so happy and energetic with their celebration.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Brooklyn, the guy Bex cheated on Liam with, is a Jerkass player who is having “a bit of fun” as he puts it with Bex. He’s implied to have played with other girls emotions before Bex as well. During the Finals of the Futurball Cup, Brooklyn lies to Bex saying that the Hawkstone Youth coach has put Brooklyn out of his position, which he was actually lying about so Bex would get her team to change formation, weakening them. While Brooklyn did lie to Bex just to beat Phoenix, Bex did reveal something that he held in strict confidence with Bex to her whole team.

    Sam

Samantha

Played by Jessica McHale
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She’s quite naive and is the Phoenix mascot.
  • Dumb Blonde: Sam is somewhat ditzy and has blonde hair. Though she isn’t your stereotypical Dumb Blonde.
  • Hidden Depths: At first, seems similar to Boggy, being the Phoenix mascot. It turns out she actually can play football. It’s revealed she played football when she was younger, but after she started needing glasses she began getting bullied by her teammates, making her quit her team. Many years later Uzma saw Sam doing tricks and encouraged her to try out for the team. She managed to make the team, however wasn’t enjoying it because Maddy was bullying her. Nonetheless, once Maddy is sent home in disgrace, she becomes much happier.
  • Nerd Glasses: While not necessarily a nerd, and is somewhat ditzy, she seems quite energetic and dorky, and she wears glasses so.

    Jake

Jake Wilson

Played by Louie Theaker
  • Disappeared Dad: His father one day just abandoned him without saying goodbye. Jake was only six or seven when it happened and he didn’t see or hear from his dad since. He wouldn’t meet him again until five years later, and his dad wasn’t even there to see Jake, he was there to see Jamie. Because Jamie is Jake’s half-brother. A small scene in series 1 showed Jake when he was young, with his mother and father, and Jamie was watching them. As well as that, according to Jake’s dad, his name was Jamie, the same as his older half-brother. It’s possible Jake had to change his name because his mother didn’t want him to have contact with his dad.
  • Parental Neglect: His dad abandoned him when he was six or seven. He didn’t see him again until he was twelve. It’s implied his mum might be neglectful as well because she refuses to talk about his father as if he never existed.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jake has done some bad things, like lie about his age to his new friends and team so he could meet Jamie Johnson (his idol), lie about formerly being seriously ill to cover his lie about his age, and made fun of Mike retiring as the team’s coach, though he ultimately is a nice person and doesn’t mean to upset anyone.

    Jess

Jess Christie

Played by Natali McCleary
  • The Ace: A brilliant footballer, playing for Manchester United until her contract expired, and it wasn’t renewed because of her pregnancy. Not only is she very talented with football, she’s also good at learning with children, enjoys Yoga, has good knowledge about science and quirkier ways of making fitness better and has a good temper.
  • Surprise Pregnancy: Jess has taken up coaching because Manchester United let her go as a player due to her getting pregnant. Alba only figures out Jess is pregnant because she witnesses Jess vomiting in the bathroom, and along with her mood swings. Jess has not even told her boyfriend Tom about the pregnancy as of the that time. As series 6 goes by, she develops a small pregnancy bump.

    Karim

Karim

Played by Dillon Bains

     Mukki

Mukki

played by Ayham Kabi
  • War Refugees: Mukki was born and raised in Syria, with his older brother and parents. However, when a civil war was started, eventually Mukki and his brother were sent as refugees to the UK. His parents however remained in Syria.

     Maddy

Maddy

Played by Olivia Chomczuk
  • Alpha Bitch: Becomes this to the new Pheonix Under 12’s.
  • Jerkass: Makes snide comments about people, bullies Sam, makes fun of Mukki’s broken trainers compared to her own expensive, shiny boots, and she’s implied to have done something terrible at Kingsmount School as she recently got expelled.
  • Rich Bitch: Is implied to be wealthy as her boots cost £200 and is an Alpha Bitch.

    Uzma

Uzma

Played by Iyla Sundarsingh McKaig
  • The Ace Though she can’t play football, she has lots of knowledge about it, is great at skateboarding and also skilled at Karate and Athletics. She’s also motivating and Jess recommends her to consider becoming a Referee due to motivating Sam and to try coaching for trying to help Karim (though he rejects her advice which subsequently loses a match against the Under 14’s).
  • Cool Big Sis: Tries to be this to her younger brother Karim, unaware that he hates her trying to help and is jealous that she excels in things like Karate and Athletics. She’s also skilled with knowledge about football (though isn’t good at playing).
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She enjoys sports and is as tough as nails, but is also unconventionally feminine.
