Main Characters

    Danny Fenton/The Phantom
  • Adaptational Badass: While he has his canon powers, he's also a living seal that can imprison ghosts, basically compositing him with the canon Fenton Thermos.
  • Body Horror: His transforming into his "Phantom" form is more disturbing than it was in the show. The ghost of his ancestor needs to climb inside him through the mouth, causing his body and jaw to contort into disproportionate angles straight out of The Exorcist. This, naturally, terrifies anyone who sees it and isn't pleasant to look at.
  • Civvie Spandex: He doesn't have his jumpsuit and instead wears his normal clothes with his hair turning white alongside some supernatural cloaking to hide his identity.
  • Clark Kenting: In addition to the hair and eye color change from the source material, Alistair is able to hide Danny's features via supernatural means.
  • Comic-Book Movies Don't Use Codenames: Unlike the show, he never goes by his codename: Danny Phantom. Instead, the public simply names him "The Phantom".
  • Hand Blast: Gains the ability to fire ecto-blasts after Rhody and Wayne are sealed inside him due to the increase in energy he gets.
  • I Always Wanted to Say That: Danny says this right before performing a 'kick open the doors'-style Dramatic Entrance.
  • I See Dead People: After meeting Death, he can see ghosts just like Norman can.
  • Mistaken for Gay: When Danny first tries to tell Tucker about his new powers, the latter initially thinks the former's coming out to him.
  • Not Wearing Tights: Danny doesn't have his hero outfit and instead has Civvie Spandex. The only major changes to his appearance are his hair and eyes, which turn white and green respectively.
  • Paradox Person: Since one of Danny's ancestors cheated death to save his pregnant wife, Danny's entire family line is like this, basically both having and not having a soul at the same time. This is what allows Death to send him back with the ability to be possessed by the said ancestor to gain ghostly powers.
  • Ship Tease: Gets some chemistry with Wendy here.
  • Symbiotic Possession: In this universe, Danny gets his powers by being possessed by his ancestor Alistair, remaining mostly in control. The transformation process, compared to overshadowing in canon, is a lot more disturbing. This also allows the two of them to exchange information and learned skills with each other. For example, in preparation for their first fight in chapter 6, Alistair gives Danny his extensive knowledge of combat...in exchange for the latter's knowledge of video games.
Alistair: This does not strike me as an even exchange.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Has more than a few choice words with Courtney for not standing up for her brother against their father, even going so far as to reveal his identity as the Phantom to drive it in.

    Norman Babcock
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Inverted. Like in canon, Norman is an outcast because of his ability to see the dead, but in this story it appears that he has a much closer relationship with his family than in the beginning of the movie. His sister Courtney, in particular, is much kinder and closer to him, where in the movie's beginning she was almost as dismissive of him as the rest of the town. Also his new friendship with other characters (especially some with supernatural abilities of their own) helps alleviate some of his angst.
  • Friendless Background: He never had any friends before. Living as the town weird kid who talks to himself (actually ghosts) will do that to a guy.
  • I See Dead People: He has the power to see ghosts, which has led to him being mocked by the people of Blithe Hollow.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: After he starts meeting other people like him (i.e. the ability to see ghosts) he starts becoming more chipper since he's not alone anymore.
  • You Are Not Alone: Norman's reaction to Danny having the ability to see ghosts too. He starts becoming more cheerful because of this since people just like him are "coming out of the woodwork", as Danny puts it.

    Tucker Foley
  • Secret-Keeper: Like in the series, Tucker knows Danny is "The Phantom".
  • Shipper on Deck: He thinks Wendy would make a good girlfriend for Danny.

    Ember McLain
  • Adaptational Heroism: In canon, she was a villain. Here, she's one of the heroes as an agent of the Fates.
  • Adaptational Nationality: Ember is Irish in this story. In the show, she was American.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: She was straight in canon, but she's a lesbian here as shown by her interest in Jazz and winking flirtatiously at Courtney.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Ember is changed from a ghost (deceased human) to a banshee, which in this universe is a person chosen as an agent of the Fates.
  • Butch Lesbian: Has this look.
  • Gut Feeling: How Ember apparently gets guidance from the Fates, like when they led her to the Mystery Shack.
  • I See Dead People: Ember can also see ghosts much like how Danny and Norman can.
  • Oireland: Her accent can be rather heavy at times, though she doesn't really fit most of the other stereotypes.
  • Tears of Blood: The "black icky stuff" version happens to Ember when the Lunch Lady first appears, and what is implied to be Bill comes to the door of the Mystery Shack while the heroes are inside it. Given that it also occurs when the Box-Car Killer and Walker appear, this could be her version of the ghost sense.

    Wendy Corduroy
  • Adaptational Badass: She was already pretty badass, but she starts out here as having a lot of experience with the supernatural and wields a sword that can hurt ghosts.
  • BFS: She wields a large sword with runes that, as Danny puts it, is almost as big as her.
  • Cool Sword: Her BFS has runes and can harm ghostly entities, Danny explicitly noting that it's not a normal weapon.
  • Ship Tease: Has shown some signs that she might be becoming attracted to Danny.
  • Unwanted Rescue: She didn't like that Danny meddled in her fight with Dash, downplayed as she appreciates it anyway.

Allies

    Alistair Fenton
  • Chess with Death: He did this to save his wife. He couldn't win but made it so he couldn't lose either.
  • Did You Just Scam Cthulhu?: How he won his Chess with Death. Basically, he knew he couldn't win against Death (who couldn't just take his wife's soul due to the seal he had set up before committing suicide so he could try to keep her alive) so he tricked Death into a draw, knowing that the Reaper had other duties and couldn't take any longer than he already had.
  • Dream Walker: Alistair is able to enter Danny's dreams by phasing his arm through the sleeping Danny's head, allowing them to see the Lunch Lady and Box Ghost chained up in Danny's subconscious mind.
  • Noble Bigot: Alistair initially distrusts Ember because she's Irish, though he tones it down after Danny explains just how wrong that kind of talk is considered in the present, and how science has outright disproved a lot of it.
  • Original Character: He never existed in any other media for the various franchises and is of the author's own design.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: He's at first rather racist towards the Irish, but Danny calls him out on how that's not okay.
  • Stop, or I Shoot Myself!: Alistair got Death to agree to Chess with Death by basically holding his and his wife's souls hostage with a ward that made it too risky for Death to try and just take them by force.
  • Victory by Endurance: Alistair won against Death by forcing him into a situation where trying to gain his (he had committed suicide as part of his plans) and his wife's souls was unfeasible by exploiting the fact that Death had other duties that he needed to take care of and couldn't take the time to really stop him after he forced a draw in his Chess with Death, while Alistair being dead at the time meant that he didn't have that problem.

    Mike Pendergast
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Downplayed; like in canon, Mr. Prenderghast is an outcast in the community and estranged from his family, however his friendship with Stan Pines implies that he is not completely alone like he was in the movie.
  • Adaptational Badass: In addition to having the Sight, he can apparently banish more hostile ghosts back to the afterlife.

    Stanley Pines

    Stanford Pines
  • Extra Digits: As in canon, he has six fingers on each hand.

    Dipper and Mabel Pines
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: They're orphans here while in canon they were just staying with Stan for the summer.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Mabel seems a bit better at combat than in canon from what we've seen so far, giving Alvin a Groin Attack when he grabs her shoulder.
    • Dipper tries his hand at magic in this 'verse. And he successfully imprisons two enemy ghosts inside Danny's body.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: The latest chapters seems to show Dipper feeling left out when his sister is hanging out with Norman and Neil. And this does not go unnoticed by a stalker, presumably Gideon.

Villains

    Gideon Gleeful
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Plays straight here. In Gravity Falls, he was well off and loved by the town before his villainous nature was revealed. Here, he's practically an outcast and is seen as a weirdo on the same level as Norman. It's also stated that his parents fight a lot, which no doubt adds to the angst pile.
  • Age Lift: He's in high school in this world, being roughly as old as Wendy.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Dislikes the idea of Walker hanging Mabel, Dipper, and Norman.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Is jealous of Danny and Wendy's burgeoning relationship.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: He doesn't thank Danny for getting Dash to back off. And when Tucker picks up his book for him, Gideon snatched it from him and shouts at Tucker for touching it.
  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: Knew Wendy growing up, and developed a crush on her which she does not reciprocate.

    The Demon/Him
  • The Dreaded: When he shows up at the Mystery Shack, Ember's powers cause her to start crying inky black tears, and Stan and Norman's uncle Mike are terrified.
  • No Name Given: So far, his name isn't revealed, if he has any. He's implied to be either Bill Cipher or Him.
  • The Unseen: So far, he hasn't revealed himself.
  • Voice of the Legion: Their voice is described as being multi-layered, with a male and female voice talking at the same time.

    Rhody O'Brien/the Lunch-Lady Killer

    Wayne Jefferies/The Box-Car Butcher

The Reapers

    The Grim Reaper
  • The Grim Reaper: Duh.
  • Unexplained Accent: Lampshaded by Danny. He starts to ask the Grim Reaper why he has a Jamaican accent, but the Reaper sends him back to the living before he can find out.

    Baron Samedi

    Charon

    Anubis

    Azrael

    Brunnhilde

Other

    Dash Baxter
  • The Bully: He's usually this towards Danny and Tucker, but Mitch and Courtney get him to back off after Danny saves her brother.
  • Everyone Has Standards: He's a Jerk Jock, but he's also not a homophone and helps defend Mitch and Scott from some homophobic jerks when they harass the group. Or tries to.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Dash innocently makes Courtney uncomfortable by calling Norman weird in chapter 6, and again when he tries to defend Mitch and Scott from a group of homophobic jerks. He says that Courtney is twice as hot as their girlfriends.
  • Jerk Jock: Is a football player and a bit of a bully. Ember even calls him out as a walking cliché when he insults her musical dreams. Even Courtney, who he's dating, has trouble naming any positive qualities about him not related to his looks.

    Courtney Babcock
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: She is nicer to her brother than she was in the film, where she was just as dismissive as the rest of the town before Character Development came in. She's also shown to be upset when everyone, including her boyfriend Dash, ridicules Norman.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Courtney is dating Dash, but she blushed when she saw Ember giving her a wink.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She cares a lot for her brother and gets on others' cases when they bully or mock him.
  • Hidden Depths: She turns out to be pretty good on the bass.
  • What Does She See in Him?: Courtney is going out with Dash. She may be wondering the same thing, as she doesn't like it when Dash makes offhand remarks against Norman. In Chapter 21, Ember even nearly quotes the trope name word for word when talking to Courtney about Dash. It's pretty telling that Courtney struggles to name any positive qualities besides his looks.

    Paulina Sanchez
  • Alpha Bitch: Is rude to Courtney, insulting her clothing choices and rubbing Dash's shoulders, who is openly dating Courtney. Courtney admits to Mitch after she leaves that she hates Paulina and is only polite to her because she needs to be if she wants to make cheer captain someday.
