The Villains
In General
- Black-and-Gray Morality: Most of the villains are saints compared to Black Mask and Deathstroke.
- Cast Full of Crazy: They're the Batman villains. This is a given for most of them.
- Ditzy Genius: Mad Hatter, Riddler, and Scarecrow all qualify.
- Out of Focus: Joker and Harley Quinn aren't prominent due to their Role-Players not being as active.
- Rotating Protagonist: Depending on which players play them at a time.
- Villain Protagonist: Regardless of who has the main perspective, they are this.
Mad Hatter (spoilers)
Jervis Tetch was a brilliant scientist who creates mind-control devices and has an obsession with Alice in Wonderland.
- Cloudcuckoolander: His mind isn't all there.
- Ditzy Genius: an engineer who made mind control devices, who is quite bonkers and has an obsession with Alice in Wonderland.
- Never My Fault: Mad Hatter refuses to admit responsibility for forcing thousands to commit suicide, blaming Poison Ivy instead.
- Sanity Slippage: After forcing untold thousands to kill themselves, and being sent to Arkham, he starts to lose it.
- Psychopathic Manchild: He loves children's fantasy books, while also being a supervillain.
- Walking Spoiler: His actions are a turning point for the story.
Killer Croc
A crocodile-like man who lives in the sewers.
- all lowercase letters: Speaks like this.
- I'm a Humanitarian: Eats several people in the fic.
- Implacable Man: His hide is said to be stronger than Kelvar, and with his regeneration is nigh-impossible to kill.
Two-Face
A former district Attorney with multiple personalities, the good-hearted Harvey Dent, and "Big Bad Harv" And the Judge.
- Jekyll & Hyde: Harvey Dent and Two-Face, as expected. He also has a third personality, "The Judge".
- Only in It for the Money: Big Bad Harv agrees to work for Black Mask if he gets paid.
- Pay Evil unto Evil: This is the Judge's MO.
Riddler
Catwoman's neighbor.
- Big Ego, Hidden Depths: His ego prevents him from receiving help, and he is very insecure about feeling helpless.
- Ditzy Genius: An expert in electronics and mind games who has an obsession with riddles and an ego the size of Mount Everest.
- Gadgeteer Genius: Creates all sorts of electronics.
- Insufferable Genius: Babbles about how much of a genius he is.
- Pride: He despises needing help from others.
- Sanity Slippage: Goes into delirium after several days of not sleeping. He gets a little better after being sedated.
- Too Clever by Half: Believes that Batman steals his money, since he refuses to accept any other explanation.
Poison Ivy
A plant person who lives in a greenhouse.
- Adaptational Sexuality: In the comics, Poison Ivy is usually is portrayed as bisexual and The Vamp. Here she's demisexual, and has very little interest in sex or kissing.
- Green Thumb: Her main power.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Was mind-controlled into going on a murderous rampage, and hated every minute of it. She hoped that Riddler would take her down to stop her.
- Villainous Friendship: Has this with Catwoman and Harley Quinn, and warms up to Scarecrow.
Scarecrow
A former Psychology professor
- Adaptational Nice Guy: He is rather kind to who he considers to be his friends who mainly wishes to target bullies, mobsters, cops, and the Gotham Elite.
- Animal Lover: He tends to spend his time reading books, and caring for his pet crows.
- Bungled Suicide: He is mind-controlled into committing suicide, but survives. He had two previous attempted that didn't involve mind control.
- Giggling Villain: Has a habit of this.
- Jerkass Has a Point: While his methods of "treating" Riddler were a bit extreme, he was correct in that Riddler's inability to accept help is a massive detriment.
- I Just Want to Have Friends: One of Scarecrow's motivations, as he grew up isolated by his peers.
- Ironic Nursery Tune: Scarecrow sings "Three Blind Mice" while using lab rats in his experiments. Later he chants a variation of "This Little Piggy", while gassing the Gotham City Police Department with fear toxin.
- No Social Skills: Has a habit of saying random creepy quips that make his peers unconfortable. Namely gushing about the wonders of Tetch's mind control to another victim (Poison Ivy) and talking about taking a selfie with Batman's corpse to Catwoman.
- Too Kinky to Torture: When Catwoman stomps on his neck, he wishes she did it harder.
- Psychopathic Manchild: Has a very childish personality, but also a fixation with the macabre and death.
Catwoman
A thief turned vigilante.
- Anti-Hero: Is more this than a full on villain, killing sex traffickers and stealing to help their victims.
- I'm Not a Hero, I'm...: Tells this to Black Mask, saying a hero wouldn't leave piles of dead bodies.
- Only Sane Man: Is the most level-headed of the bunch (which is admittedly a low bar).
- Pay Evil unto Evil: Few can blame her for killing child sex traffickers.
- Spicy Latina: Has Hispanic heritage, and is a badass anti-hero.
Black Mask
The most powerful Crime boss in Gotham
- Bad People Abuse Animals: In the first chapter Black Mask is in, he skins a cat alive and threatens Catwoman that he'll do it to every cat in Gotham.
- Dark Is Evil: He wears a black skull mask on his face and is very evil.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Black Mask has genuine affection for his surrogate daughter Annie.
- Evil Former Friend: Was one to Bruce Wayne.
- Kick the Dog:
- Skins a cat alive just to try to get to Catwoman.
- Mocking reads the diary of Stephanie Brown, a girl he tortured to death.
- Hero Killer: Black Mask has killed both Stephanie Brown/Robin and Helena Bertinelli/Huntress.
- Secret-Keeper: Knows Batman is Bruce Wayne, but hasn't revealed it publicly.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Black Mask believes the only way for crime in Gotham to be reduced is if he's in charge of it.
Penguin
A former Crime boss, who has gone "clean" and runs the Iceberg Lounge.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: He deeply cares for Martin.
- Papa Wolf: Goes berserk after he finds out Killer Croc threatened his son.
Deathstroke
The Terminator
- Abusive Parents: Forced his daughter to gouge out her eye, and stabbed his son through the heart.
- Only in It for the Money: His main motivation. He only cares about getting paid.
- Training from Hell: His methods are an extreme version of this.
Supporting Characters
Holly Robinson
A young girl Catwoman rescues.
- Disabled in the Adaptation: She is deaf in this version.
- Handicapped Badass: Despite being deaf, she is an expert thief.
Martin Cobblepot
Penguin's adopted son
- Cute Mute: He's unable to talk due to having his throat slit.
Annie (spoilers)
One of Black Mask's enforcers who disguised herself as Helena Bertinelli/Huntress. She turns out to be Annie, a piece of Clayface that gained sentience and was adopted by Black Mask.
- Affectionate Nickname: Black Mask calls her "Mudpie".
- Dead Person Impersonation: She disguises herself as Huntress, who was killed sometime before the story starts.
- Training from Hell: Deathstroke subjected Annie to being electrocuted, burned, and melted as a part of her training.
- Walking Spoiler: The fact that the real Helena Bertinelli is dead and being impersonated is revealed early on, the fact that she is Annie and Black Mask's surrogate daughter is revealed later.
- Voluntary Shapeshifting: Has this ability.
Batfamily
Bruce Wayne/Batman
The former hero of Gotham who has disappeared.
- Ambiguous Situation: What exactly happened to him is a mystery.
- Dating Catwoman: Had a relationship with this version of Catwoman
Stephanie Brown/Robin
A former Robin, she was killed by Black Mask sometime before the story starts.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Black Mask tortured her to death like the comics.
- Posthumous Character: Was killed sometime before the series started.
