    Lord Lonato

Lord Lonato Gildas Gaspard

Ashe's adoptive father and the Lord of the Gaspard region in the Kingdom of Faerghus. Fueled by grief on his dead son who was killed by the Church, he instigates a rebellion against the Central Church.

  • Adaptational Badass: In the original, he was just an Unwitting Pawn intentionally set up to fail in his rebellion just to have the Church discover the 'assassination plot' for Rhea during the Rite of Rebirth. Here, Lonato's benefactor was interested on how far Lonato's determination would take him, thus provided the lord with the weaponry and equipment for him and his troops, granting both enhanced strength, endurance and speed. Though it comes with the cost of Lonato's army becoming fierce berserkers that will slaughter down knights with ease. It is because of this that Lonato's army was able to decimate the Church's army easily compared to the game.
  • Arc Villain: He leads a rebellion against the Church and his forces become such a credible threat thanks to Lemegeton's support that the Church was forced to send an army and all three classes to quell it.
  • Fog of War: Like in the original, Lonato intentionally caused a fog during the battle. However this fog was no ordinary fog thanks to it being fueled by Lemegeton—people envelop in the fog not only have lower visibility, but are cut off from distant sounds or movement, making his Berseker army able to attack the enemy without warning. Because Lemegeton left their post because something caught their interest in the battle, a Gaspard commander took their place, making it easier to get rid of the fog once they got taken out.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: He is motivated by his grief and instigates a rebellion against the Church to bring justice to his dead son who was executed by them, however, Lorenz points out that his actions also leave behind many grieving families in the process, not to mention destabilizing his land because of the chaos.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: Before starting his rebellion, people said that Lonato was 'in a frenzy' and his motivation to get rid of Rhea not only just to avenge Christophe, but to save all of Fodlan from her. It's implied that Lemegeton revealed something to Lonato that he accepted Lemegeton's help.
  • Hypocrite: Blinded by rage and grief, Lonato was willing to start a rebellion against the Church for the death of his son, unconcerned with the fact he is endangering his own people and willing to kill his adoptive son, becoming no different from the Church that he has grown to hate.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Showing how low he has become due to his rage, Lonato starts beating Ashe up, despite the boy begging for him to stop this madness. It becomes ironic when Lonato gets beaten to death himself by Goetia
  • Undignified Death: His army quickly gets decimated by Goetia and he is beaten to death by the furious demon, Goetia beating him up so badly that his face was beyond recognition.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Ultimately, Lonato was nothing but a pawn for the Western Church and although his benefactor want to help Lonato in his goal for revenge, they ultimately just want to test out the weaponry they gave to Lonato and his army.
  • Would Hurt a Child: He was willing to beat his adoptive son to death and ends up fatally stabbing Lysithea, who is the youngest amongst the students, though he briefly shows remorse for the latter. Unfortunately for him, sensing that Lysithea was in grave danger was what cause Goetia to break his vow as an observer and quickly annihilates Lonato's army and then Lonato himself.
    Miklan Gautier

Miklan Anschutz Gautier

Sylvain's older half-brother who turned to banditry after being disinherited due to the combination of lacking a Crest and abusing Sylvain during their youth. He steals his family heirloom, the Lance of Ruin in which the Blue Lions are dispatched in response to retrieve the stolen Relic and eliminate his bandit gang. Though things are not easy as they seem in spite of his lack of Crest because of a certain benefactor.

  • Adaptational Badass: In the original, he was just a thug who couldn't wield the Lance of Ruin to its full power and got turned into a Demonic Beast because of his lack of a Crest. In this story, Lemegeton grant him the means to wield the Lance of Ruin properly even without a Crest, empowering Miklan with enhanced abilities that he becomes a tough opponent for Byleth.
  • Arc Villain: His theft of the Lance of Ruin and personal history against Sylvain makes him the central antagonist in the Conard Tower arc.
  • Ascended Extra: In the original game, he was a separate antagonist who has no connection to the conspiracy against the Church. Here, he becomes tied to the conspiracy via Lemegeton granting him the means to wield the Lance of Ruin properly just to test out an experimentation he has been working on.
  • Big Brother Bully: Before he became a bandit, Miklan was always horrible to Sylvain and has attempted to kill him multiple times as far as Sylvain can remember. He has not changed much from this when both brothers meet again.
  • Cain and Abel: He holds a murderous grudge against his younger brother Sylvain, which his benefactor used to convince him to take up on their offer. This feud ends with Sylvain putting Miklan down for good.
  • Freudian Excuse: He lacked a Crest and was pushed in favor for Sylvain, who was born with a Crest. His disownment resulted him resorting to banditry.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: While one can feel sympathy for him for being neglected due to lacking a Crest, it doesn't change the fact that he was a cruel and horrible brother to Sylvain—his cruel action against his younger brother was a contributing factor to his disownment and becoming a bandit leader was something he did all on his own. He gets called out on this by both Sylvain and Felix during the raid at Conrad Tower.
  • Hypocrite: For someone who accuses Sylvain for being an entitled brat due to being born with a Crest, Miklan himself feels that he's entitled to the Lance of Ruin and Lemegeton's power up due to believing he deserves it for all the wrong that has happened to him.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: All he wanted was the power of the Crest and to wield the Heroes Relic that he had been denied since birth. Lemegeton used this for his own purpose.
  • Mental Time Travel: This is what happens to Miklan whenever Byleth rewinds time with Divine Pulse, thanks to the power-up Lemegeton gave him. This makes him aware that something is off when his mind unwittingly goes back to a previous event, but never figures out what had happened. After Goetia explores Byleth's memories of the fight, he deduces the cause was Sothis unintentionally pulling him back in time as well, due to him being similar to her host.
  • Never My Fault: Blames Sylvain for all of the misfortunes that piled on him, even though his abuse of Sylvain is also the contributing factor to his disownment.
  • No-Sell: The blood of the Goddess that Lemegeton offered Miklan also granted him immunity and awareness to Byleth's time manipulation ability to some extent. While he can tell something off, Miklan never learns that Byleth can manipulate time.
  • Off with His Head!: Miklan finally meets his end by this method, courtesy at the hands of Sylvain using the Lance of Ruin to do the deed.
  • Rasputinian Death: He was slashed, stabbed, impaled and even drowned in the mud and he was still moving with his lungs stabbed by the steel lance courtesy of Dimitri and pushing the Sword of the Creator out of his chest. It takes Sylvain impaling him with the Lance of Ruin and beheading him that Miklan stays dead for good.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: After gaining new powers from Lemegeton, Miklan becomes an absolute beast in combat— enhanced strength, speed, endurance, a healing factor and immunity to Byleth's Divine Pulse. But he relies on the raw power of the Lance of Ruin and his newfound strength, not to mention he never figures out that Byleth was manipulating time whenever she activates Divine Pulse. His poor usage on the Lance of Ruin is even reflected at his in-game stats where his aptitude on Lances is Level E.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Lemegeton never had any hope that Miklan can beat Byleth, only giving him the blood of the Goddess because he wants more data on Byleth and on the experimentation he laid out.

Divine Beasts

The Wandering Beast (Unmarked Spoilers Below)

Maurice, The Wandering Beast

A sapient Demonic beast who terrorized the countryside. His past human self was a member of Nemesis' elites until his name was stricken off the records after he disappeared at the end of the War of Heroes.

  • Ascended Extra: In the original, he appears only as a boss battle in Marianne's paralogue. His role gets expanded in the story due to inheriting the Evlogia he gained from eating Miklan's corpse and forced to work for Lemegeton after being beaten in combat.
  • Always Someone Better: He's on the receiving end of this during his fight with Lemegeton. He may have been a feared warrior and a terrifying ancient Demonic Beast that is now enhanced by Evlogia, but he's shown to be no match for Lemegeton.
  • Anti-Magic: He is capable of producing barriers that negate magic, but Lemegeton notes there's a limit to it.
  • Blood Knight: He held this reputation back when he was among Nemesis' Elites, which has not been lost when he regains his sanity after consuming the Evlogia.
  • Breath Weapon: Likely because of the Evlogia, he gains the ability to breath fire, which he used to devasting effect during his rampage across an Alymran village.
  • Healing Factor: The Evlogia grants him an impressive healing factor, allowing him to regenerate quickly from whatever Lemegeton threw at him, though it is shown to have limits when an attack becomes too much for the regeneration factor to keep up.
  • I Fight for the Strongest Side!: He agrees to Lemegeton's offer to work for him after being nearly killed by him.
  • Living Distant Ancestor: Maurice is actually Marianne's distant ancestor and the reason behind her Crest.
  • The Nose Knows: He has a keen sense of smell, able to sense that Lemegeton is possessing Nemesis' corpse.
  • Undying Loyalty: Maurice swore to follow Nemesis, though this does not extend to Lemegeton, wanting to kill the Demon God at first for insulting his king via possession.
  • The Worf Effect: He's established as a dangerous and fearsome Demonic Beast and the Evlogia greatly enhancing his abilities and helping in regaining his sanity. But his single fight against Lemegeton shows how outmatched he is against the Demon God.
