Daughters of the Dragon

In General

After Misty Knight and Colleen Wing became friends, the two created a private investigator firm named Knightwing Restorations, Ltd. The two were dubbed "The Daughters of the Dragon" due to their abilities of martial arts.

Misty and Colleen both appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, portrayed there by Simone Missick and Jessica Henwick, respectively. Introduced separately (Misty in Luke Cage (2016) and Colleen in Iron Fist (2017)), the two finally meet in The Defenders (2017), and become friends during the events of that series. While the Daughters of the Dragon are not officially formed, Misty has been confirmed to be appearing in Iron Fist season two, suggesting further developments between them.

Action Girl: They are a former cop with a bionic arm granting Super-Strength (Misty) and a skilled ninja and martial artist (Colleen).
Fanservice Pack: Misty Knight and Colleen Wing were first introduced in the 1970s, but they did not look like their modern versions. Back then, they looked like this◊.
Red Is Heroic: Misty has worn a red outfit since the 2000s and Colleen is a redhead.
Short Range Guy, Long Range Guy: Colleen uses a sword while Misty uses guns. That said, both are capable of hand-to-hand combat.
Tomboy and Girly Girl: Misty Knight is the most violent and "masculine" of the two, and Colleen always stays positive.

"Hello, hero. This is Control. Are you for hire tonight?"

Misty Knight is a Marvel Comics character created by Tony Isabella and Arvell Jones, first appearing in Marvel Premiere #21 (dated March 1975).

Created in response to the blaxploitation craze of The '70s, Mercedes Kelly "Misty" Knight was an average police officer in the New York City Police Department until she was injured in the line of duty, losing her right arm while attempting to stop a bombing. Upon recovery (and resigning from the force in lieu of taking a desk job), she was given a bionic replacement arm by Tony Stark and became the roommate of Jean Grey during the latter's stint away from the X-Men.

Not taking her retirement lightly, Misty soon formed the Daughters of the Dragon private detective agency with her best friend Colleen Wing. During this time, she also made the acquaintance of Luke Cage and Iron Fist — the latter of which she'd begin an on-off relationship with over the next few decades.

After many years of relative obscurity, Misty saw a resurgence in popularity during the mid-oughts, thanks to her increased involvement with the street-level side of the Marvel Universe. She appeared in the second and third volumes of Heroes for Hire, co-starred in Immortal Iron Fist, and co-headlined a six-issue Daughters of The Dragon limited series with Colleen, among other things.

The Marvel NOW! and All-New, All-Different Marvel eras of the The New '10s continued Misty's visibility streak, having her join the Fearless Defenders alongside Dani Moonstar and Valkyrie. It was during this time that she also began a working (and little-less-than-professional) relationship with Sam Wilson, the all-new Captain America.

Outside of comics, Misty has appeared in various other forms of media. She's a playable character in the video games Marvel Future Fight and Marvel: Avengers Alliance, and appears in an episode of The Super Hero Squad Show. In 2016, she made her live-action debut in Luke Cage (2016), portrayed by Simone Missick.

Misty Knight provides examples of the following tropes:

Aborted Arc: Misty thought she was pregnant towards the end of The Immortal Iron Fist, but after that book ended, it was determined to have been a "phantom" pregnancy, which was established in a story in an anthology comic that almost nobody read. The fallout from that would later play into the plot of the 2011 Heroes for Hire.
Afro Asskicker: One of the Marvel Universe's preeminent examples, especially since Luke Cage has largely been coifed with a shaved hairstyle in recent years.
Artificial Limbs: Misty Knight has a bionic arm, created by Tony Stark. The original limb was "just" an artificial limb, which was nearly impossible to tell apart from a real arm; it gave her a solid right hook and superhuman grip strength, but nothing else that a human wouldn't have. Misty later received a much more obviously cybernetic upgrade in Daughters of the Dragon, which has features including a blaster, a force-field projector, and a small amount of Antarctic Vibranium, which allows her to liquefy Adamantium objects with a touch.
Badass in Distress: In the early days, Misty had a bad habit of hot-headedness mixed with overconfidence leading her to get into situations where she was in over her head, and would get captured.
Battle Couple: With Danny Rand and later Sam Wilson.
Bounty Hunter: Of the non-lethal variety, she's a bail enforcer.
The Bus Came Back: Misty Knight was created in the 1970s, and forgotten a short time later. She was brought back in 2006, first in the Ultimate Galactus Trilogy set at Ultimate Marvel, and then with the Daughters of the Dragon miniseries in the mainstream universe. She became a regular character since then, appearing in several comic books.
Empowered Badass Normal: She has always been a badass. Then she became a badass with a bionic arm.
Expy: She's explicitly based on Pam Grier as Coffy.
Fanservice Pack: Misty Knight was created in the 1970s, but has only been Ms. Fanservice since the 2006 relaunch of Daughters of the Dragon. See here.
Go-Go Enslavement: Technically self-inflicted, but she disguised herself as a prostitute to infiltrate one of Deadly Nightshade's schemes, which involved a bra and panties outfit.
Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Colleen Wing. Both of them have their male romances.
It's All My Fault: Misty blamed herself for Humbug's corruption and his death at Shang Chi's hands because she was the team leader.
Let's You and Him Fight: Misty first met Danny when Colleen had been abducted by some cultists. Danny came investigating the Wing household, just as Misty did, and she leapt to the conclusion he was responsible. Danny had to knock her out because she wasn't exactly willing to listen to reason.
Logical Weakness: Since the rest of Misty's body isn't cybernetically enhanced, she cannot lift objects heavier than her back, shoulders, and legs can physically support.
Most Common Super Power: Misty has a huge bust.
Monster Roommate: Back in the X-Men comics, she once had a young roommate who was going to college. It was the Phoenix before she went crazy and wiped out a Shi'ar solar system.
Punch-Clock Hero: While she will help out for the cause of good or if there's a great threat to New York, she's mostly work for hire when it comes to doing the superhero gig. In 2020, she's an agent for J.A.N.U.S, an unknown agency that has some really suspect leadership and has a stated goal of scouting out Ravencroft asylum for potential assets.
Shell-Shocked Veteran: As written by Claremont, Misty had some serious mental scars from the incident that cost her her arm, which could occasionally cause a Freak Out. Not a good combination with the Hand Cannon she was still carrying.
Statuesque Stunner: She's 5'9"/175cm tall and quite attractive.
Suicidal Overconfidence: Claremont-era Misty had a lot of faith in her pistol. More than was medically sane, in fact, given she once tried pointing it at Fire-Lord. As in the former Herald of Galactus with a known Hair-Trigger Temper Fire-Lord. Good thing he wasn't in a mood to fight that day.
Swiss-Army Appendage: Misty's cybernetic arm has received some a number of upgrades over the years.
- Misty's first prosthesis was constructed from steel, and designed by Stark Industries. It possessed a vise-like grip and allowed limited super strength.
- Misty's second arm was built by Tony Stark and was made from an Antarctic Vibranium and a diamond combined alloy. Due to the new material, at close range, it can liquefy most metals including adamantium. It can generate a wide anti-gravity repulsor field similar to Iron Man's armor and can produce concentrated beam of cryogenic energy, covering an area in ice. Tony Stark later revealed the new arm allows her some limited technopathic capabilities which she used to take control of a group of attacking robots in World War Hulk: Aftersmash. Daniel Rand later funded an upgrade of the arm to include magnetism and a concussive blast.
- Misty's third prosthetic included a Grappling-Hook Pistol hidden in the forearm and an energy shield whose size she could adjust to compensate for mass protection. While working for the J.A.N.U.S. organization, her prosthesis was outfitted with sonics to deal with Carnage.
- Misty's fourth bionic arm included Wolverine Claws and an energized charge which supposedly enhances her bludgeoning and striking power.
Tomboy and Girly Girl: Surprisingly, she has been at both sides of the equation. When she's paired with the sweet Colleen Wing, she's the hardened leader with the mind focused on getting the job done. And when she's paired with Valkyrie, one of those goddesses that seem as if taken straight from Xena: Warrior Princess, then she's the one who will care about human emotions instead of just taking down Asgardian zombies and seeking the next target. And the best part is that both portrayals are consistent with the other.
Token Good Teammate: She and James Hudson, Guardian of Alpha Flight are members of J.A.N.U.S, who's leadership includes members from HYDRA, AIM and the Weapon X project.

Colleen Wing

Alter Ego: Colleen Wing

First Appearance: Marvel Premiere #19 (November, 1974)

Colleen Wing is a character from Marvel Comics, created by Doug Moench and Larry Hama.

A well skilled ninja, Colleen Wing has frequently been the partner of Misty Knight. They worked together as the Daughters of the Dragon, a created a new team of Heroes for Hire during the Civil War (2006). During Shadowland she left Misty and started her own group, the Daughters of the Shadow.

She is portrayed by Jessica Henwick in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in Iron Fist and later The Defenders.

Action Girl: Colleen is a trained martial artist and swordswoman.
Being Personal Isn't Professional: When she's on the job, Colleen can be a total hardass.
Brainwashed and Crazy: In the first volume of Iron Fist, she was abducted by Master Khan and subject to several days of Mind Rape to turn her into a minion, in the hopes she'd kill Danny.
But Not Too Foreign: Her father Lee Wing is American while her late mother Azumi Ozawa was Japanese.
Damsel in Distress: In the early days of Iron Fist, Colleen's role was the token girlfriend who gets captured and menaced by the villains before Danny rescued her. Obviously, much less so after her abduction by Master Khan, barring one or two incidents.
Dressed Like a Dominatrix: As Master Khan's minion, she's put in a tight, all-black number with elbow-length gloves, high heeled boots and a cleavage window.
Fiery Redhead: Long, flowing red locks and a terrible person to be on the bad side of.
Good Wears White: She is a good guy who often dresses in white.

I Know Kung Fu: When she was brainwashed by Iron Fist foe Master Khan, Danny melded his mind with hers in order to free her. As a result, Colleen gains knowledge of K'un-Lun's Supernatural Martial Arts and gains the ability to manipulate her chi.
Just Friends: Her and Danny have more in common than they both have with Misty, and she was his first contact upon coming back to America, but they've never been more than friends.
Katanas Are Just Better: Colleen carries a katana to use it for melee combat.
Light Is Good: Her catsuits are usually white and she's one of Marvel's many action heroines.
Long Hair Is Feminine: Fitting the role of girly girl to Misty's Tomboy.
Lovely Angels: Often with Misty Knight.
Master Swordswoman: Colleen was trained in the art of the samurai sword by her grandfather.
Samurai: Was trained as one by her grandfather. She is also descended of samurai on her mother's side of the family.

Took a Level in Jerkass: After her abduction by Master Khan, she became a lot snippier and bad-tempered, especially towards Danny, though given she went through several days of Mind Rape, not without justification.
Xenafication: As introduced by Doug Moench, she had no fighting ability whatsoever. When Claremont took up writing for Iron Fist, she suddenly develops a fondness for fighting, and then a few issues after her abduction it turns out actually she was trained in swordfighting techniques as a child (as to why she didn't use these fighting techniques to save herself from being abducted... shush!)
