RONDO

Over thousands of nights, I pledge the blue flame to you
"I vow. This song that I sing is RONDO."
A DJ/Rock unit with a dramatic and unique worldview, that represents the nightclub Alter Ego. Originally the unit comprised of only Aoi and Hiiro as DJ and VJ, but after a request from their manger to recruit a vocalist, Aoi scouted Tsubaki to fulfill the role, with Nagisa being brought on as a guitarist along the way. Their genre consists of alt-metal, with some electronic and D&B elements.
    General
  • Darker and Edgier: The group is this for the franchise. Their original songs are especially dark, often having morbid and depressing lyrics and a hard rock feel. Their cover songs tend to be darker than the ones given to other groups as well.
  • Image Song: Prayer and its remix, Prayer[s], can be considered one due to the importance it has during the group's first Road to D4 FES story.
  • Meaningful Name: The kanji in RONDO's name (燐舞曲) can be split into three parts. 燐 meaning phosphorus, 舞 meaning dance, and 曲 meaning song.
  • Odd Name Out: They're the only unit whose name is written in kanji in Japanese rather than in katakana.

"Singing is the only thing I've got"
Voiced by: Rihona Kato (Japanese), Mikoi Sasaki (Japanese, Childhood Voice), Madeline Dorroh (English)
"Melodious, my "Movement"
Bearing it on me as resolve"

The vocalist of RONDO. Tsubaki was invited to join the unit by Aoi because the unit needed one, and she quickly attracted attention due to her talent. She is a natural-born vocalist, who has been humming melodies for as long as she can remember. Although she looks cool and confident, she hates being alone.
  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Seems like this at first glance, but this is subverted as the story progresses.
  • Ambiguously Gay: She and Aoi's interactions have very romantic undertones, with them frequently blushing at each other, unable to stop thinking about the other and Hiiro and Nagisa often giving them space akin to letting a couple have their privacy. Tsubaki outright mistakes Aoi to have been confessing her love to her early on in RONDO's main story.
  • Childhood Friends: With Rika, the two having gone to elementary school together.
  • Mascot: She's the center of the group, and is appears on more promotional material than the other members.
  • Not a Morning Person: She has trouble waking up in the morning. Nagisa had to wake her up with Calendula (her electric guitar) after multiple attempts of shaking her failed. To top it all off, during her 2023 birthday, she received a custom alarm clock with Miyu, Rika and Aoi's voice as a present.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Says this to Hiiro in Aoi's "At Your Service" card story, after the former sees Aoi has fallen on top of Tsubaki.
  • Shrinking Violet: Especially during the unit's first Road to D4FES story, where she is hesitant to join RONDO because she doesn't think she fits in nor will people appreciate her presence.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She's very standoffish and cold towards Aoi and the others at first, but shows her much sweeter and gentler side over the course of their story.
  • Tsundere: She can get easily flustered and balk at getting too affectionate with people, especially Rika.

"Electrifying sound, isn't it?
This is my best partner! Listen to my riffs"

The guitarist of RONDO who grew up in a family that loves rock music. She became a member of the unit while looking for a place to practice guitar, and happened to stumble across Alter Ego where Aoi was DJing. Although normally shy, she strongly values friendship and will not hesitate to take a stand when she needs to. She also enjoys visiting Hiiro's house.
  • Badass Biker: While her petite, youthful appearance and personality may make it a bit of a shock, she owns a motorbike and loves riding it. She also enjoys letting her friends ride with her, such as Towa and Hayate.
  • Big Eater: She loves to eat and will eat just about everything.
  • Butt-Monkey: Has been choked by Dalia twice (Sparkling Buds, Bursting LAGOON and XROSS∞BEAT EPISODE 1) when the latter's fear of ghost is showing.

  • Curtains Match the Window: She has blonde hair and yellow eyes.
  • Does Not Like Spam: She isn't too fond of vegetables, much to Hiiro's chagrin. She will eat them if she's served them, but begrudgingly rather than with the enthusiasm she has for all other foods. However, when Aoi reveals that the jam she made for Nagisa has carrots in it, Nagisa isn't upset at her at all and is actually glad that Aoi's given her a way to enjoy carrots in some capacity. She shared her dislike for vegetables, particularly green pepper, with Shinobu.
  • Hot-Blooded: She's passionate and energetic, which usually comes out in her guitar shredding on stage.
  • Older Than They Look: She's in her early 20s, but her height and appearance make her seem younger. Hayate mistaken her as a middle schooler when they meet for the first time.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Nagisa herself only appear on around two occasions during First Mix, just like other members of Merm4id, RONDO and Lyrical Lily. However, her first D4FES card story reveals that she is the friend that Kyoko commissioned to make seashell accessories for Happy Around at the eighth episode of First Mix.
  • Token Mini-Moe: While the moe aspect is downplayed, Nagisa is petite and has a youthful face, along with having a cheerful personality that stands out among the much more mature and subdued members of her unit. She also loves eating snacks, dislikes veggies, and tends to have a much more straightforward approach to life, putting an emphasis on her much more childish nature in comparison to the other girls.

"Entrust your body to this luscious stage
I want to feel more of it"

The VJ and backup vocalist of RONDO, with a sleek and mature nature. She used to go to Alter Ego as a customer, but became a member of RONDO after meeting Aoi. As VJ, she builds the unique worldview of the unit through her knowledge of art. Since she is a psychology major, she acts as a counsellor to the other unit members. Although kind, she scolds people when they become too selfish.
  • The Confidant: To the other members of RONDO. Being a psychology student, she's rather emotionally intelligent, and will listen to the others' feelings as if she were a counsellor.
  • Cosplay Otaku Girl: She's quite a fan of cosplaying, and occasionally tries to rope the other ladies into trying out her outfits for her.
  • Fortune Teller: One of her hobbies is dream divination.

    Aoi Miyake

Aoi Miyake

"It's okay. I'll always be here for you."
Voiced by: Tsunko (Japanese), Justine Huxley (English)
"It all started with our fated encounter
With eternal wings, we play the melody"

The leader and DJ of RONDO. Her androgynous looks attract many fans to the unit. She became captivated by Tsubaki's vocals after hearing her sing Prayer one day, and became determined to get her to join RONDO. She usually has a poker face, but opens up to her unit mates.
  • Ambiguously Gay: She and Tsubaki's interactions have very romantic undertones, with the two frequently blushing at each other and several of Aoi's cards showing her making rather flirtatious gestures towards her.
  • Bifauxnen: Usually dresses quite masculine and was designed to have a princely look.
  • Chick Magnet: Her looks are stated to attract the attention of many of RONDO's fans, and she tends to be ship-teased frequently with the other girls in the game.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: RONDO's side:origin event reveals that her parents died in a car crash when she was a child, and she was adopted by her paternal uncle and his wife. However, she didn't get along with them and lived alone from the age of twelve.
  • Hidden Buxom: Aoi's chest isn't that big in most of her appearance. However, episode 11 of Petit Mix and her second relation event card reveals that she is actually quite well endowed in the chest department.
  • Minor Living Alone: Formerly, since she is an adult. RONDO's side:origin story reveals that she was this from the age of twelve, after moving out because she didn't get along well with her uncle and aunt.
  • Mistaken for Flirting: A variation in that it's not the target of the interaction who mistakes it as flirting so much as observers — In their part of the "Road to D4FES. Chapter 1" arc, one of her attempts to recruit Tsubaki as RONDO's vocalist gets noticed by nearby classmates, who comment on the interaction as if Aoi is trying to outright romance Tsubaki.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: A downplayed example, but she often struggles with loneliness despite her kind personality. Because she is so physically attractive and extremely considerate of others, she drives others away as they feel too flustered to be around her. Best showcased in one of her character episodes, where a fan of hers immediately makes an excuse that she has somewhere to be after Aoi recognizes her, Saori makes a similar excuse after Aoi tells her she'll always be a devoted fan of hers, and Haruna makes another excuse when Aoi helps her after she trips and loses her shoe. Aoi even makes a comment about how everyone seems to suddenly be busy when she approaches them.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: She's one of the taller girls, has black hair, and is stated to be quite attractive.
  • Tomboyness Upgrade: One card shows Aoi showing Tsubaki a picture of herself when she was younger, which shows her with long hair and a feminine high school uniform.
