Ornithia

    General
  • Difficult, but Awesome: The Elements of Love, the Ornithian Elements of Harmony, are noted to be the most difficult set to find bearers for, requiring three sets of two lovers. However, it's also noted as a trade-off, they're the strongest set once they are activated.

Ornithian Pantheon

    General

Lovely Wing, the Mother of Freedom

Classification: Ethereal/Ascendant

Portfolio: Avians, Freedom, Transformation

Rank: Divine (Tier IV/Greater)

Affiliation: Ornithian Pantheon, Avian Pantheon(s)

"Freedom is to be able to choose being who you are... and being WHAT you are."

Lovely Wing (her entry here) is the Swan goddess of Avians, Freedom, and Transformation, and is both the wife of Gifted Ruler and the mother goddess of all Avian races.
  • Adaptational Badass: Odette generally doesn't take part in combat in most adaptations. Lovely Wing was the one to fight her Evil Stepmother Primrose Willow and ultimately, with some help from her sister, killed her.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She is a Swan goddess who embodies Avians, Freedom, and Transformation.
  • Expy: Of Odette, though a composite of many, many different versions that takes it her own direction. Ironically, In-Universe, Odette is an expy of her, as Swan Lake is an adaptation of her story.
  • Forced Transformation: She was transformed into a swan by the evil wizard Red Beard. Ironically, she turned out to enjoy being a swan, as it freed her from the responsibility thrusted on her by her family that she never wanted.
  • Historical Villain Upgrade: In-universe, various adaptations tended to exaggerate her flaws to the point of making her unsympathetic; some versions had her refuse to forgive Gifted Ruler for falling for Moon Flower's deceptions and declaring his love for her instead.
  • The Magnificent: Known as "the Mother of Freedom", due to being both a goddess of freedom and a co-creator of all sapient Avian species.
  • Shapeshifter Mode Lock: She would turn back into a pony at night so long as she was on Red Beard's lake, but Gifted Ruler being tricked into confessing love to the wrong person combined with Red Beard's death resulted in her being trapped in swan form for good. She didn't mind too much, but would ultimately regain the ability to assume pony form after ascending.
  • Swans A-Swimming: She was transformed into a swan by the evil wizard Red Beard. The fact real life swans are actually dangerous is alluded to, as she's more than capable of fighting if needed. Even after she regained the ability to turn back into a pony, she prefers her swan form.

    Gifted Ruler

Classification: Ascendant

Portfolio: (WIP)

Rank: Divine (Tier IV/Greater)

Affiliation: Ornithian Pantheon, Avian Pantheon(s)

  • Abdicate the Throne: He abdicated the throne of his kingdom to Lovely Wing's sister Beautiful Wing (ironically uniting the kingdoms as their parents wanted to begin with) so he could retire with Lovely Wing and live together.
  • Bestiality Is Depraved: Subverted: some in-universe accused him of such due to him marrying a swan, but Lovely Wing is both entirely sapient and is actually a Pony Princess who was polymorphed into a swan by an Evil Sorcerer.
  • Interspecies Romance: Played With; he and Lovely Wing were both ponies, but Lovely Wing was turned into a swan for the rest of her mortal life by Red Beard, so most of their married life has been spent with them being different species.
  • Master Archer: He is very skilled with a bow, and it was ultimately the weapon he used to kill Red Beard.
  • Sadistic Choice: While fighting Red Beard, he was forced with a choice: he could either kill Red Beard to save their kingdoms at the cost of Lovely Wing never being able to turn back into a pony, or he could let the wizard live and continue to threaten their kingdoms. With Lovely Wing's encouragement, he chose the former.

Ornithian Royal Family

    King Thaumus, the Protective Wings

Character: Heroic

Alignment: Lawful Good

Type: King, Element Bearer, Abusive Parent (Formerly), Atoner, Protector

Faction: Ornithia

"To love someone, you must be willing to protect them from harm, even at great risk. Only then can love truly flourish."

King Thaumus (his entry here) is a co-ruler of Ornithia and the Bearer of the Element of Protection.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: Tragically zigzagged. Despite their attempts to do a better job raising Aello and Ocypete than their parents did, they weren't fully successful due to having internalized biases and bigotry of their own, and didn't realise how much harm they'd caused their children until much later down the road.
  • Heel–Face Turn: He used to be a lot worse, but eventually realized his mistakes and became a much better person.
  • Heel Realisation: He had one along with Ozomene upon realizing that they'd become no different from their Abusive Parents, preceding their Heel–Face Turn.
    Queen Ozomene: Thaumus? What's wrong?
King Thaumus: Ozomene... remember how our fathers controlled what friendships we could have? How painful it was to be forced to alienate ourselves from someone we cared about?
Queen Ozomene: How could I forget? It was like having my heart ripped out. It was...
King Thaumus: The same pain on our children's faces right now?
Queen Ozomene: ...I... It's different, we... we didn't. We... we just... we just... N-No...
King Thaumus: ...We've sure made our parents proud, haven't we?
Queen Ozomene: ...By the Mother of Freedom, no...

    Queen Ozomene, the Generous Gale
The Queen of Ornithia, the wife of King Thaumus, and the father of Crown-Prince Aello and Princess Ocypete.
  • Breaking the Cycle of Bad Parenting: Tragically zigzagged. Despite their attempts to do a better job raising Aello and Ocypete than their parents did, they weren't fully successful due to having internalised biases and bigotry of their own, and didn't realise how much harm they'd caused their children until much later down the road.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Deals one out to Ceridwen, who had joined the Dark Ages Alliance and led an attack on Ornithia in an attempt to gain revenge, with Ozomene completely demolishing her in their fight without Ceridwen landing a single hit. Had Ceridwen not escaped by targeting her subjects to create an opening, it's likely that Ozomene could have killed her.
  • Heel Realisation: She had one along with Thaumus upon realizing that they'd become no different from their Abusive Parents, preceding their Heel–Face Turn.
    Queen Ozomene: Thaumus? What's wrong?
King Thaumus: Ozomene... remember how our fathers controlled what friendships we could have? How painful it was to be forced to alienate ourselves from someone we cared about?
Queen Ozomene: How could I forget? It was like having my heart ripped out. It was...
King Thaumus: The same pain on our children's faces right now?
Queen Ozomene: ...I... It's different, we... we didn't. We... we just... we just... N-No...
King Thaumus: ...We've sure made our parents proud, haven't we?
Queen Ozomene: ...By the Mother of Freedom, no...
  • Lady of War: Is widely considered the best warrior in all of Ornithia, and proves this by demolishing Ceridwen in spite of the latter having gained replacements for her long-lost Element.

    Crown-Prince Aello
The Crown-Prince of Ornithia, and the older brother of Princess Ocypete.

    Princess-Consort Zephyra
The wife of Crown-Prince Aello.

    Princess Ocypete
The Princess of Ornithia, and the younger sister of Crown-Prince Aello.

    Ex-King Pontus
Ex-King Pontus is King Thaumus' abusive father.
  • Abusive Parents: He was incredibly controlling of Thaumus' life, trying to mold him into a perfect heir with physical, emotional, and mental abuse. The only reason why Thaumus didn't turn out as bad as his father was the influence of Ozomene, despite being subjected to a similarly restrictive upbringing. He reacts violently when Thaumus finally stands up to him, resulting in him trying to kill Thaumus in a coup.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Thaumus ends up disarming him by cutting his sword claw off during Pontus' attempted coup.
  • Big Bad: He serves as this for Ornithia as whole, being Thaumus' abusive father responsible for most of his negative traits, perpetuated the racism and bigotry that'd gripped the country, and even trying to usurp his son when Thaumus finally stood up to him. It's only once Thaumus defeats him during his attempted coup that things start getting better.
  • Parental Marriage Veto: Pontus initially considered rejecting Ozomene as Thaumus' potential wife because she became his Morality Pet, thus awakening Thaumus' sense of empathy that Pontus tried to suppress. Fortunately, Thamus talked his father down by reminding him of the debt he owed to Ozomene's father; if Pontus rejected Ozomene, her family would take it as a grave insult and turn against him. That and the Ornithian Elements of Love needed three couples to activate them.
  • Serial Spouse: He had multiple wives over the years and yet he unceremoniously divorced and cast aside many of them — whether for displeasing him in some way or not giving him the ideal heir he wanted. Thaumus' own mother was one of the wives that suffered this fate.
  • The Sociopath: Thaumus' entry notes that Pontus is likely a genuine sociopath, incapable of empathy or true love and viewing even his own son as nothing but a pawn. He also made a habit of banishing his wives for displeasing him. This also meant Pontus was incapable of ever becoming a Bearer of one of the Elements of Love, as he was literally incapable of forming meaningful bonds with anyone.

Other Residents

    Captain Celaeno

  • Disability Immunity: Ornithians have a poor sense of smell. This made her and Sterling's fusion better able to fight Captain Lavande, a skunk pony with noxious musk.
  • Fusion Dance: While helping Princesses Gold Lily and Sterling fight Captain Lavande (one of her rivals), Gold Lily fuses Celaeno and Sterling together to take advantage of Celaeno being a better fighter. As an added bonus, her having a poor sense of smell protected them from Lavande's skunk spray.

    "Prince" Huginn

  • Disability Immunity: Subverted when he was skunked by Nittunak for attempting to deny responsibility for and escape the consequences of his actions. In spite of his poor sense of smell as an Ornithian, the elder Fae Skunk god's spray was more than potent enough to knock him unconscious.

    The Dinlas

The Dinlas (introduced in this drabble) are the Ornithian equal of the Windigos, being ice elemental daemonic beings formed and powered by hatred.

  • An Ice Person: Like the Windigos, the Dinlas are ice based daemonic beings that, when powered up by enough hatred can cause massive ice ages.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Like the Windigos, they are eldritch horrors formed from hatred, and resemble gigantic insectoid monsters. This is especially true of the gigantic original Dinlas.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The Dinlas were sealed beneath the mountain on which Ornithia was built using the Elements of Love. Unfortunately, the racism and classism between Raptors and Parrots combined with the Ornithian Civil War would set them free.
