     Heroes

Iro

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iro.png

Voiced by: Wyatt Bowen
The first of the Chop Chops. Iro is clumsy, reckless, and generally overshadowed by his teammates in every aspect, but he makes up for it with his dedication, bravery, and mastery with the quarterstaff.
  • Hot-Blooded: Very much so. He gets extremely passionate about ninja training, battling villains, and pretty much everything in-between (often to the annoyance of his team).
  • Idiot Hero: While he does have his moments of genuine cunning, his klutziness and reckless behaviour mean that more often than not, he doesn't think things through, fails to notice the obvious, and royally screws things up on multiple occasions.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite his flaws, Iro is loyal to his teammates, dedicated to protecting Rizon from evil, and can always be counted on to do what's right in the end.
  • The Klutz: Clumsiness is one of Iro's defining traits.
  • Rookie Red Ranger: Although the least experienced and least skilled of the Chop Chops, he's also the one who gets the most focus from the series and is generally framed as the protagonist.
  • Telescoping Staff: His weapon of choice is an extendable quarterstaff.

Jo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jo_17.png

Voiced by: Angela Galuppo
The second of the Chop Chops. Jo is the sole girl of the group, but she compensates by not only being the smartest and fastest of the team, but also being a wicked shot with her throwing stars.
  • Action Girl: Jo may be the sole female of the Chop Chops, but she can stand toe on toe with any villain they face just as well as the boys can.
  • Art Evolution: In the original games and Chop Chop Ninja Challenge shorts, Jo possessed long hair in the style of a ponytail and wore lipstick quite prominently.
  • Only Sane Man: Usually plays this role when the Chop Chops are getting into another misadventure, often being the first to point out the stupidity of any poorly thought-out ideas that Iro, Neeko, or Tetsuo have come up with. She's easily the smartest and most sensible of the Chop Chops, with cunning being one of her defining traits amongst the team's individual skill assets.
  • The Smurfette Principle: Though she more than makes up for it.

Neeko

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neeko.png

Voiced by: Jason Deline
The third of the Chop Chops. Neeko is an anthropomorphic cat with a very high opinion of himself, a love for pranks, and agility and archery skills unmatched by his fellow ninjas-in-training.
  • Cat Ninja: He's a cat who's also a ninja-in-training.
  • Cats Hate Water: Unsurprisingly, given his feline nature, Neeko hates getting wet and often goes great lengths to avoid a soaking.
  • It's All About Me: He has an extremely high opinion of himself, believing that he is both the best and the most popular of the Chop Chops, often to the annoyance of his friends.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite having an ego the size of the Moon, Neeko still possesses a heroic heart underneath and will always do what is right for his friends when push comes to shove.
  • Meaningful Name: Derived from "neko", which is Japanese for "cat".

Tetsuo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tetsuo_8.png

Voiced by: Jason Deline
The fourth of the Chop Chops. Tetsuo isn't that much bigger than the other ninjas, but he is the strongest and toughest of the bunch, able to swing around his ball-and-chain without breaking a sweat.
  • Art Evolution: Tetsuo had a markedly different appearance in the iOS games and the Chop Chop Ninja Challenge shorts, with his armour being red instead of blue and the horns on his helmet instead being a crescent and circle similar to the ones he has on his emblem.
  • Big Eater: He's usually very hungry and often gets distracted by food.
  • The Big Guy: He's only slightly taller and beefier than the other Chop Chops, but his strength and durability are far greater than any of them.
  • Dumb Muscle: Downplayed. While Tetsuo does have a decent amount of common sense, he is frequently slow on the uptake and tends to realize the obvious far later than his teammates.
  • Epic Flail: He wields a mace that can extend out by a cord to bash enemies from afar.

Master Enoki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/master_enoki.png

Voiced by:
The headmaster of Chop Chop Academy (also a former student there) and teacher of the Chop Chops. Master Enoki is a wise old sensei, but can also be rather tricky in his teaching methods sometimes.
  • Cool Old Guy: The Chop Chops show a great deal of respect for him, and his wisdom (even if it can be strange at times), authority, and history as a ninja master show he deserves all of it.
  • Eccentric Mentor: He has his moments of quirkiness, such as teaching in strange manners or making nonsensical statements that are supposed to be wisdom. He's also sometimes seen doing things you wouldn't expect an old Japanese sensei like him to being doing, although that's usually when the Chop Chops aren't looking.
  • Edible Theme Naming: Enoki is a kind of mushroom well known for its usage in Japanese cuisine.
  • Eyes Always Shut: He does open them wide on a few occasions, but by default, his eyes are closed up.
  • Old Master: Master Enoki is your classic Japanese martial arts sensei, with the wisdom, fighting skill, and appearance that you would expect.

     Villains

Magic Master (Masako)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/magic_master.png

Voiced by: Brian Froud
An evil sorceress bent on finding the legendary Chop Chop Medallion Quadrants. Magic Master is the wickedest and most dangerous of Chop Chops' foes, for her quest for power knows no bounds.
  • Big Bad: While Magic Master is not the sole villain in the series, she is the most important, most powerful, and most fiendish of their many foes, as her plans to acquire the Chop Chop Medallion Quadrants drive the show's overarching storyline.
  • Evil Former Friend: She was originally Masako, a classmate of Master Enoki, Kai, and Miss Sharp at Chop Chop Academy until she was drawn in by the promise of power from a mysterious evil being and thus transformed into Magic Master.
  • Evil Sorceress: She acquired her magical powers after coming into contact with a powerful evil entity, and her talent with those abilities far outstrip the Chop Chops' own ninja skills.
  • Knight of Cerebus: She has very few comedic traits compared to the Chop Chops' other opponents, and any time she decides to face the Chop Chops directly is bound to mean serious business for the team.
  • Orcus on His Throne: She is more active in battling the Chop Chops early on, but due to the fact that the Chop Chop Medallion Quadrants harm her when she touches them, she chooses to instead take a backseat and use minions to thwart the Chop Chops.

The General

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_general_9.png

Voiced by: Mark Camacho
Formerly a student of Chop Chop Academy, The General was expelled years ago for unknown reasons and has since become an evil warlord bent on destroying Chop Chop Academy and the Chop Chops in revenge.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: He is very open about how evil he is and how much he hates goodness, to the point where he once even hired someone to help him improve on his villainy.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": He's only ever referred to as "The General" by everyone else on the show.
  • General Ripper: A ruthless, megalomaniacal warlord with a burning hatred for the Chop Chops and everything they stand for.
  • Laughably Evil: Despite being one of the show's major villains, The General is often a pretty goofy character with a lot of comedic moments.
  • A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil: He was expelled from Chop Chop Academy years ago by Master Enoki. For this reason, he holds a massive grudge against Enoki and seeks to destroy the academy and its students for it.

Splat

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/splat.png

Voiced by:
The General's diminutive sidekick. Splat is responsible for designing and constructing all of the various war machines and robotic soldiers that The General uses in his assaults on Chop Chop Academy.
  • Beleaguered Assistant: His job as The General's assistant is a thankless one, although he generally doesn't seem to mind being pushed around all the time.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: He invents all of the machines that The General uses against the Chop Chops.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: He's very friendly compared to his boss and seems to hold no ill will towards the Chop Chops, who in turn pay little attention to him.
  • Sycophantic Servant: Constantly heaps praise upon The General and his achievements or tries to cheer him up when his plans go awry.
  • Yes-Man: Acts as one for The General.

Komata

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/komata.png

Voiced by:
An anthropomorphic rabbit who lives in the forests around Rizon. He sees himself as a protector of the environment, but in reality, he just seeks to destroy things he personally hates, namely the Chop Chops.
  • Bad Boss: He frequently berates and abuses Blob and generally seems to care little for him except as a pawn for his evil schemes.
  • Evil Is Petty: Most of his plots are just excuses for him to exact petty revenge upon people or things that annoy him.
  • Hair-Raising Hare: He's a human-sized rabbit-man who's also one of the show's main villains.
  • Jerkass: Komata is mostly just a petty and unpleasant douche rather than an outright supervillain like Magic Master or The General.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist: He claims that he wants to protect the environment from human destruction, but in reality, he only cares about himself and just wants to lash out at anything that he can't stand.

Blob

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blob_7.png

Voiced by:
A dopey, green, blob-like creature who serves Komata. Although harmless in his normal form, he is able to enter the bodies of other creatures and transform them into giant green versions of themselves.
  • Blob Monster: He's a small green one with symbiotic powers.
  • The Ditz: He's not particularly intelligent, very childlike, and will do anything Komata commands him to without regard for his safety or realizing what he's doing is wrong.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Unlike Komata, he holds absolutely no grudge towards anybody and generally seems pretty chipper about committing the evil deeds Komata sends him on.
  • Simpleton Voice: Speaks in a dim-sounding voice befitting his naivety and childish attitude.
  • The Symbiote: His trademark ability is to enter other creatures' bodies and turn them into giant green blobby creatures of great strength that he controls.

Kami

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kami_17.png

Voiced by: Wyatt Bowen
A small but extremely hot-tempered humanoid creature composed of fire. Kami inhabits the Firelands, but due to his massive crush on Princess Mariko, he frequently comes into conflict with the Chop Chops.
  • Abhorrent Admirer: He is madly in love with Princess Mariko, but she cannot stand him one bit, which only serves to worsen his horrible temper.
  • Flaming Hair: He has fire for hair, and it burns with greater intensity when he's angry.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: His bad temper definitely appears to be a major turnoff for Mariko, and even the Chop Chops get turned off by it whenever they try to get friendly with him.
  • Hot-Blooded: Even moreso than Iro. His fiery temper means he often has trouble controlling himself, especially when he gets the short end of the stick in any situation.
  • Playing with Fire: As expected from a little humanoid fire creature, he has a lot of fire powers.

Kai

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kai_13.png

Voiced by:
A former classmate of Master Enoki who was transformed by Magic Master to serve the foul sorceress in the form of a blue crystal orb containing great magical power.
  • Crystal Ball: While he is a pretty special one given his sapience and his origins, Kai is still every bit as fragile as your average crystal ball.
  • Forced Transformation: Thanks to Magic Master, Kai is now nothing more than a talking blue orb of magical power. However, that doesn't mean he isn't a threat to the Chop Chops.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: The evil magical power that transformed Kai into a crystal orb made him every bit as power-hungry, deceptive, and merciless as the one responsible for his transformation.

     Others

Princess Mariko

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/princess_mariko.png

Voiced by:
The princess and ruler of Rizon, who appears to be around the same age as the Chop Chops. She has a pretty friendly relationship with them, especially since she often needs their help protecting her from Kami.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Villains like The General and Kami frequently abduct her, but the Chop Chops often find that she can take care of herself relatively well and has escaped on her own more than once.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: While she can be bossy and uppity at times, Princess Mariko cares a lot about her subjects and usually gets along quite well with the Chop Chops.
  • Princesses Rule: No mention of a King or Queen of Rizon is ever made, so it's safe to say that Princess Mariko is the one and only ruler of the city.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She respects the Chop Chops enough to trust them with many missions and other important tasks, but is also unafraid to punish them whenever they make a major screw-up.
  • Tomboy Princess: Even though she's a princess with all the elegance and poise that such a title suggests, she's also got quite a bit of attitude and has sometimes shown interest in becoming a Chop Chop.

Miss Sharp

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/miss_sharp.png

Voiced by:
Princess Mariko's retainer and a former classmate of Master Enoki, Kai, and Masako. She is still a good friend of Master Enoki and occasionally shows up (often with Princess Mariko) to help the Chop Chops.
  • Eyes Always Shut: Like Master Enoki, her eyes are drawn closed by default, although they're enlarged by her spectacles as well.
  • Old Retainer: Towards Princess Mariko apparently; she's about the same age as Master Enoki, so it's safe to say she's definitely around her golden years.

Fishman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fishman_4.png

Voiced by:
A large, dimwitted anthropomorphic fish who wears nothing but underwear. He was originally a pet that Iro purchased online, but he grew up pretty quickly and now lives in the Chop Chop Academy's pond.
  • The Ditz: He's not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, being easy to deceive or manipulate.
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: He only wears a pair of tighty whities.
  • Fish People: As his name obviously suggests, he's a large humanoid fish creature.

Yuki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yuki_88.png

Voiced by:
An icy-skinned girl who lives in the frozen mountains north of Rizon. She is an old friend of Jo and occasionally shows up to help her and the other Chop Chops battle evil with her cold-based powers.
  • An Ice Person: She has many ice-based powers, including the ability to create blasts of cold energy from her fists that freeze whatever they hit.
  • Yuki-onna: Implied. The series' pseudo-Japanese aesthetic and her icy appearance would seem to suggest her to be one of these snow spirits.
