The protagonist of the series, Futaba is a first year student at Ao High. After seeing the Ao High School Rhythmic Gymnastics Team perform at a tournament at the end of his third year of middle school, Futaba became intrigued by the sport and decided to attend Ao High and join the team.
- The Benchwarmer: He's introduced at the end of his final middle school baseball game, having spent his whole time on the team on the bench.
- The Determinator: He performs with a sprained wrist in episode eleven.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: Over the course of the show, him and Misato grow into this.
- Naïve Newcomer: Futaba is new to the sport of rhythmic gymnastics, allowing for concepts like scoring to be explained to the audience through other character's explaining them to him.

The runner-up in the men's rhythmic gymnastics junior tournament, Misato is a first year student at Ao High who joins the Ao High School Rhythmic Gymnastics Team.
- The Ace: Misato is a highly skilled rhythmic gymnast.
- Dark and Troubled Past: His parents passed at some point during his childhood and he lives with his aunt. There was also an accident when he was younger that involved one of his teammates getting injured during an aerial stunt in practise.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: Over the course of the show, him and Futaba grow into this.

- Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: With Takase, the captain of the Shiro High team - they'll get riled up fighting about almost anything!
- Supporting Leader: The captain, but not the protagonist.

- Academic Athlete: Tsukidate is the only third year who isn't worried about the midterms and tutors the other third years.
- Childhood Friends: He's been friends with Shichigahama and Onagawa since elementary school.
- Number Two: Tsukidate is the vice captain of the team.

A third year at Ao High, Onagawa is a founding member of the Ao High School Rhythmic Gymnastics Team.
- The Ace: Self-proclaimed, although none of the other characters argue against it. He is the most flexible member of the team and has been noted to be particularly good at tumbling.
- Broken Ace: Following an error he made at the regional tournament, episode eight focuses on his insecurities related to this role and Misato, who he acknowledges as the team's ace.
- Childhood Friends: He's been friends with Shichigahama and Tsukidate since elementary school.
- The Gadfly: Has a habit of teasing his teammates, particularly Misato and Futaba.
- The Nicknamer: Gives plenty of nicknames to Misato - usually by throwing some adjectives in front of the word Ace - and, to a lesser extent, Futaba.

- Bruiser with a Soft Centre: Brash and a little scary, but he's very devoted to his teammates.

A second year at Ao High, Kurikoma is the manager of the Ao High School Rhythmic Gymnastics Team.
- Cute Sports Club Manager: The team's manager - she also appears to help with choreography.
- Phoneaholic Teenager: A variation - she's never seen without her tablet and flashbacks reveal she's been attached to it since she was a child.
- The Stoic: Doesn't tend to show much emotion.

- Break the Haughty: His backstory can be summed up as this. He was an arrogant ace of a university team, who performed with an injured leg and went down mid-performance. This turned out to be a Career-Ending Injury.
- Career-Ending Injury: A leg injury took him out of the sport for good.
- Happily Married: He's always quoting his wife, although the team doubt she exists. Episode 7 reveals that he is married to a nurse he met when he was recovering from his Career-Ending Injury.
