Arkn / Ah’Ruhkahen

The second race created by the Hethe, the Arkn are winged, angel-like beings with magic-based powers. They were created to rival the Dekn.

    In General
  • Angelic Aliens: The Arkn are technically an alien race, but they glow, have feathered wings, and are (for the most part) beautiful, ethereal-looking creatures.
  • Angelic Beauty: Played with. Many Arkn (particularly those who are upper class or possess royal blood, such as Cele'ra'cria, Ell'epagi, and Ambriel) are described as beautiful in appearance. It's rare to find a description of an Arkn who isn't attractive.
  • Arch-Enemy: To the Dekn. It was the main impetus for their creation: the Hethe were bored, and wanted to create a rival for the first Dekn, Dekncraath.
  • Born as an Adult: The first few Arkn came into existence as full-grown adults. Every Arkn produced thereafter, however, came into existence as an infant (via magick or the traditional method).
  • Cities of Gold: The home cities of the Arkn are collectively called The Golden Cities (with the grand capital, Elysia, sometimes referred to as "The Golden City" itself).
  • Divine Parentage: The first three Arkn (four, if you count Del'phar) were crafted directly by the hands of the Hethe, making the Hethe their "parents", in a sense.
  • Evil Counterpart Race: Subverted; unlike in Arknverse, the Arkn are no more or less evil than the Dekn.
  • Fantastic Racism: Many (if not most) Arkn regard the Dekn as lesser than themselves, generally seeing them as a "rough draft" species (with themselves as the superior "final copy").
  • Functional Magic: As in the Arknthology, the Arkn practice magic (or magick) by tapping directly into an energy field (via "strings"), and harnessing its energy via symbols, sigils, and individual will.
  • Immortality: Arkn who possess Hethian blood (i.e. those who are directly descended from the Hethe) are immortal. All other Arkn are merely Long-Lived.
  • Long-Lived: Arkn who aren't Hethe-blooded have remarkably long lifespans, living hundreds (sometimes thousands) of years.
  • Our Phlebotinum Child: Arkn typically reproduce by using a complex magic ritual that combines some of the Life Energy of two partners. While it isn't unheard of for Arkn to go the "traditional" route, most prefer not to, as it is too long and tedious for their taste.
  • Winged Humanoid: All natural-born Arkn have feathered, bird-like wings of varying hues (mostly in light colors).

Arkn Nobility

Xeth'i'stral Family

     King Gilgamesh

Gilga'mesh Xeth'i'stral

Appearances: Even the Stars Will Bleed

The first Arkn. He was created as the avatar of the Hethe Leg'leg, and went to become the first king of his people, as well as leading them them in war against the Dekn. He was the husband of Kry'atha, and the father of Urabi.

  • Absolute Xenophobe: When he suspected that the outer city was aiding the Dekn, he cut off all financial support, and later tried to raise them to the ground.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: While his Arkanthology counterpart was a complete monster, Unity Gilga'mesh is portrayed as being more naïve and paranoid than evil, and occasionally demonstrates kindness. He steps in to prevent Dekncraath from killing Xymigos (and forms a close friendship with him), and is able to be persuaded by Raziel to stop fighting with Dekncraath (falling in love with Raziel in the process). Even his decisions to make The Carver his advisor and act on his advice were based on ignorance rather than malice (as he was unaware of the man's true identity, and believed he was acting in the best interests of his kingdom). Mind you, these are the only positive traits he displays, and they speak more to his counterpart's evilness and cruelty than Unity Gilgamesh's goodness. (It's also very possible that his supposed naïvete was historical revisionism.)
  • Ambiguously Gay: His first romantic entanglement was with Raziel, yet he was also married to Kry'atha, the Arkn high priestess. (However, their marriage was a deeply unhappy one, and it seems that he showed little to no interest in her, suggesting that she might have been The Beard.)
  • Disappeared Dad: Understandably so, given as he was imprisoned in the Infernous (and dead) for most (if not all of) Urabi life.
  • Divine Parentage: He was molded together through the power of Leg’leg, making Leg’leg his “parent” in a sense.

    Queen Kry'atha

Kry'atha Xeth'i'stral

Appearances: The Queen Reborn (mentioned), Rise of the Revenant

The former High Priestess of the Arkn, and Queen consort of Elysia. After being seduced by Dekncraath, she defected to the Infinitium, becoming the wife of the emperor and Empress of the Dekn. She is the mother of Cele'Ra'Cria, Ambriel, Xerex, Samsi, Clubs, and Hashmal. For tropes related to her, see here.

    King Urabi

Urabi Xeth'i'stral

Appearances: Even the Stars Will Bleed, A Maelstrom of Fate

"Who would have expected King Urabi Xeth'i'stral, son of Gilgamesh, the first Arkn, to betray his only blood? To cast him away into a pit of fire?"
El'lepagi Xeth'i'stral

The second King of the Arkn. The son of Gilgamesh, he is obsessed with gaining more power, and loves collecting magic relics to that end.

  • Action Dad: He continued acting as the commander of the Arkn military after El'lepagi's "birth".
  • Adaptation Name Change: From Uriel to Urabi.
  • Historical Hero Upgrade: He is renowned as a heroic warrior, who once risked his own life to try to enter the Infernous; in reality, he was a power-hungry narcissist, and his actions resulted in a great deal of loss and suffering for the Arkn — including his own son.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Unlike Uriel, who was a beloved, good-natured Reasonable Authority Figure and maintained a sense of duty and loyalty toward his people (being wracked by guilt when he failed them), Urabi is a self-absorbed, inexperienced, and ineffective ruler, who not only betrays his own people by making a deal with the ruler of the opposition but hands over his own son to said ruler — in exchange for being transformed into a Dekn.
  • Composite Character: He takes Uriel's place in lore (he's the son of the first Xeth'i'stral king, the ruler of the Arkn, a warrior, and the father of Ell'epagi) but has Gilga'mesh's personality and backstory (abusive, bigoted, secretly working with the Carver, ends up being imprisoned in the Infernous). This is especially odd, given that Gilga'mesh himself is still present in lore.
  • Deal with the Devil: He ultimately betrays his people when he makes a deal with Dekncraath, handing over his firstborn son in exchange for being made a Dekn.
  • Death Glare: He gives Midhir Lyonesse a rather chilling look after Midhir requests that Ell'epagi be allowed to undergo the trials of knighthood. Midhir later realizes that Urabi was enraged with him for trying to give Ellpagg hope and encouragement.
  • Happily Adopted: By Del'Phar, who loved him and raised him as if he were his own son.
  • Offing the Offspring: He handed Ell'pagi, his only son, over to the Dekn to be used as a battery in their hellish prison realm. Given that said realm causes the death of anything that enters it...
  • Phlebotinum Overload: Due to his Hethian blood, Urabi absorbed a massive amount of energy in the Infernous at his creation, and unwittingly carried it within him his entire life. After brokering a deal with Dekncraath as an adult, he learned the properties of this energy, and made an attempt to break into the Infernous as an adult; the energy he'd absorbed at birth met with the energies of the Infernous, and overwhelmed him, merging with his essence. He survived by fragmenting himself — resulting in the creation of his son, Ellpagg.
  • Racial Transformation: He makes a deal The Carver in exchange for being transformed into a Dekn.
  • Truly Single Parent: After he became overwhelmed with Infernous energy, caused part of his own essence, which had to split from him — forming his son, El'lepagi. It's hinted that he deliberately created Ellpagg in such a manner, in order to fulfill his end of the bargain with Dekncraath (as only one born of the Infernous could enter the realm alive, and Urabi had no desire to sacrifice himself).
  • You Make Me Sick: His reaction towards Ell'epagi after his son fails in his trial for knighthood is nothing less than utter disappointment and disgust. (It's not Ellpagg's actual failure that disgusts him, but rather the fact that he'd try in the first place.)

     Prince Ell'epagi

Ell'epagi Xeth'i'stral

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cc_20200625_221431.png
"A Prince, born of Hellfire, to a King who held no crown."

Appearances: Even the Stars Will Bleed, A Maelstrom of Fate

The son of Urabi and former Prince of the Arkn. After being betrayed by his father and handed over to Dekncraath, he endured eons of torture in the Infernous, transforming into a strange, new being.

  • Affectionate Nickname: Midhir calls him "Ellpagg".
  • Back from the Dead: Since he escaped in bodily form from the Infernous, a realm which automatically causes the death of all who enter, he qualifies.
  • Black Blood: After he escapes from the Infernous, his blood has been replaced by "black ichor".
  • Broken Angel: The torture and torment he endured in the Infernous transformed him, stripping him of his physical Arkn traits; by the time he emerged from the realm, his wings were destroyed, and his blood had been replaced with a black ichor.
  • Childhood Friends: With Midhir Lyonesse.
  • The Chosen One: He believes himself to be one of Arkn prophecy, destined to fight The Carver in Hell. He's wrong on that account, as the prophecy was a fake. (However, he is a chosen one in another sense: he's an Arknza, a Hethe-blooded Arkn.)
  • Creepy Blue Eyes: Ellpagg's eyes are a piercing, eerie blue shade.
"The thing most people never quite realized about Ellpagg was that he had a stare so piercing you felt as if your skin was being peeled off down to the bone."
  • Defeat Equals Friendship: He initially found Midhir Lyonesse rude and insufferable. After Midhir beat him in a fair fight, however, the two of them became good friends.
  • Evil Prince: Averted: he rejects his royal title after becoming corrupted.
  • Fallen Angel: Becomes one during his time in the Infernous, which corrupts and alters him in body and soul.
  • Fallen Hero: Averted, as he never had the chance to become a hero (having failed the trials of knighthood).
  • Living Battery: He was born and raised to be nothing more than an energy source for the Infernous — and eventually fulfills that purpose (at least temporarily).
  • Warrior Prince: He saw himself as one, despite not having passed the trials of knighthood. Indeed, he had great combat prowess (beyond even that of the '"actual'' Arkn knights).
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Prior to his betrayal, Ell'epagi wanted nothing more than to win Urabi's approval and make him proud. He failed, as Urabi never cared about him in the first place.

The Royal Court

     Xymigos

Xymigos

The second Arkn, created by Cre'vial to aid in the conflict between Dekncraath and Gilgamesh. He has a uniquely terrifying, smokey form.

  • Adaptation Name Change: He's essentially a re-made Gynesis from The Arknverse.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: While Xymigos has essentially the same appearance as Gynesis, it doesn't cause him nearly as much angst, as he has the friendship and support of Gilga'mesh; as such, he isn't a reclusive loner, and doesn't Go Mad from the Isolation or become homicidal (instead leaving the Arkn cities to explore Existence when the stares and whispers become too much).
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In Arknverse, Gilgamesh treated Gynesis with respect, but they weren't portrayed as being particularly close. Here, Gilgamesh saved Xymigos from being killed by Dekncraath, resulting in the two becoming good friends, and later joining forces to fight Dekncraath.
  • Brown Note: His appearance is so horrifying that Dekncraath tries to kill him on sight. Oddly, he doesn't seem to have the same effect on the Arkn — particularly Gilga'mesh, who almost immediately befriends him.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Xymigos was created to end the fighting between Dekncraath and Gilga'mesh. After Dekncraath rejected him and tried to kill him, however, Gilga'mesh stood up for Xymigos, resulting in the two of becoming friends and joining forces.
  • Nightmare Face: Presumably has one; while the creation story doesn't go into great detail, he's described as an "abomination", and Dekncraath found him "disgusting".
  • Super Smoke: He has a smoky form, which sets him apart from the other Arkn.

    Raziel

Ruhah'zehee'el

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/razielunity_6.jpg
“I have lost everything to this city, to the war over it! I won’t lose you…”
Appearances: The Queen Reborn

The third Arkn, created as the avatar of Gar'sha and half of the essence of Azazel. He represents the aspects of Wisdom, Magic, Hope, Tragedy, and Secrets, and He is renowned as the father of magick for his work in the study and mastery of the magickal arts. He is the husband of Phoenix, the father of Helios, Nath'haniel, Jos'sephine, Vicc'ter, and Chamuel, and the grandfather of Ambriel. For tropes about him, see here.

     Del'phar

Arknzaag Del'phar

Appearances: Even the Stars Will Bleed, A Maelstrom of Fate

The fourth Arkn, created by De'ebolus out of half of Dekncraath's essence. An ancient Arkn Lord and warrior, he is the adoptive father of Urabi and a mentor to Midhir and Ell'epagi.

  • The Mentor: To many a young Arkn, including his manservant Midhir.
  • Nice Guy: He's a genuinely kind man who only wants the best for his charges.

Lyonesse Family

     Induid

Induid Lyonesse

Appearances: A Maelstrom of Fate

The patriarch of the Lyonesse family.

     Midhir

Midhir Lyonesse

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/midhir.jpg
"Your Royal Highness, I am not afraid to tell you how much of an utter twat you are being."
Appearances: A Maelstrom of Fate

Arknzaag Delphar's servant in the royal court, and Ell'epagi's childhood best friend. He is a famed healer.

  • Apocalyptic Log: His journals read like one, as they follow Ellpagg's through childhood and adolescence, up until his betrayal and corruption.
  • Best Friend: To El'lepagi, from childhood on. Prior to Ellpagg' s betrayal, the two of them were inseparable.
  • Blow You Away: Like all members of the Lyonesse family, Midhir has wind-based magic powers (which he channels through his staff).
  • Brutal Honesty: Unlike most nobles, Midhir doesn't bother brown-nosing or mincing words — even around the Arkn Prince himself. It's one reason why he and Ellpagg become friends: he's the only one who "tells it like it is". Upon their first meeting, Midhir deadpans, "Your Royal Highness, I am not afraid to tell you how much of an utter twat you are being."
  • Emerald Power: His personal color.
  • Magic Staff: The Branch of Emerald Winds (or "Windlike Branch", for short) a carved, wooden quarterstaff engraved with sigils and decorated with an emerald ribbon. Midhir carved it himself, and can summon it at will, using it to channel his wind powers.
  • Modest Royalty: Despite being a nobleman and a member of the Royal Court, Midhir cares little about keeping up appearances, dressing in worn, ratty clothing that could easily have him mistaken for a common criminal. The only known exception occurs when he has to appear before King Urabi, to request that Ell'epagi be allowed to undergo the trials of knighthood.

    Cassidel

Cassidel Lyonesse

Appearances: A Maelstrom of Fate

"To be honest, Cassidel was made for the court, more than I. He was prone to lies — they dripped off his tongue like dew off of leaves."
Midhir Lyonesse

The youngest son of Inuid and brother of Midhir.

Seraphim

    Phobos

Phobos

The head of the Seraphim, the kingsguard of Elysia.

  • Action Girl: As the head of the kingsguard, she is one of the kingdom's best warriors

    Helios

Helios

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pakjgwr.png
Appearances: The Queen Reborn

The Arkn Magesword of Fire, Ash, and Stoker of the Eternal Flame. He was a commander of the Seraphim, and one of the chief blacksmiths of the royal Xeth'i'stral family, forging much of their weapons and armor. He is the secret son of Raziel and Hazel.

Other Nobles

    Samyaza Rofocale
Appearances: The Neverless Chroniclesnote , AilingDaydream (mentioned)note

The Arkn of Pride. He is the father of Suphlatus and Zachriel Rofocale.

  • Absolute Xenophobe: He hates the Dekn so much that when his son began to sympathize with them, he gave Zach the Bastard's Decay, tearing off his wings and genitals with his bare hands before throwing him off the highest mountain peak. (Note, the Bastard's Decay is normally only carried out on Arkn who have actually declared defection, or betrayed the Arkn in some fashion.)
  • I Have No Son!: When Zachriel became sympathetic to the Dekn and their cause, Samyaza became so outraged that he declared him an Unperson and gave him the Bastard's Decay.
  • Meaningful Name: He shares a name with the mythological demon king representing Pride; Samyaza is indeed prideful – so much so that his son expressing sympathy for the Dekn (with no express intention of defecting) was reason enough to give him the Bastard's Decay, disown him, and throw him off a mountain.

     Zachriel Rofocale

Zachriel Rofocale

Appearances: The Neverless Chroniclesnote , AilingDaydreamnote , Shadow on the Seanote , The Council of Zachriel (Discord RP), The Taveril'domaine Trip, Ashes To Ashes (one-shot), Farewell, Mr. Rofocale (mentioned), Misc. Discord RPs

The son of Samyaza and brother of Sulphatus. After learning the true history of the Arkn and Dekn and the origin of their conflict, he developed sympathy for the Dekn. This led to his father disowning him and giving him the Bastards Decay, after which he defected to the Dekn. For tropes related to him, see here.
