Dekn

"After the creation of Existence, the Hethe De’ebolus became bored. Exercising its creative power, it crafted an avatar to keep it company. This avatar was Dekncraath, a horned, humanoid, male being who existed in the nothingness. Gar’sha saw this nothingness, and created the Tree of Riviera: a massive tree in which it constructed a castle. Dekncraath resided in the Tree, and the two Hethe were satisfied."
Hethian creation myth

The first race created by the Hethe. A race of demon-like, horned beings. They are the arch-rivals of the Arkn.

    In General
  • Arch-Enemy: To the Arkn. In fact, the Arkn were created just to give the Dekn rivals (mainly because the Hethe were bored and wanted to liven things up).
  • Born as an Adult: The first two Dekn are implied to have been created as fully-formed adults, knowing only the most basic survival skills.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: While you can't call the majority of them good, they generally aren't the monsters that the Arkn (and humans, by extension) have made them out to be.
  • Demonic Possession: Dekn are capable of taking possession of other beings' vessels, and must do so to enter .Reality. However, many of them refrain from attaching themselves to humans semi-permanently like the Arkn (as this they consider this to be harmful and violating).
  • Horned Humanoid: All Dekn have horns of some kind, ranging from multi-pronged antlers, to twisted ram-like horns, to the short, pointy horns traditionally associated with "demonic" beings.
  • Horns of Villainy: Subverted; while all Dekn have horns, they are no more or less evil than other races.
  • Our Demons Are Different: The Dekn are actually a race of alien beings, but they possess most of the characteristics associated with demons: they're monstrous-looking beings who live underground, have a red-skinned ruler who controls a prison/afterlife dimension of pure suffering, and are perpetually at war with a race of ethereal, sky-dwelling beings.
  • Psychic Powers: Unlike the Arkn, who use magic, Dekn powers are entirely mental, and each individual shapes them to their specific will. Dekn earn their titles by inventing and expanding on a specific psionic element.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Many Dekn have red eyes, both in their normal forms and when inhabiting a vessel.

Dekn Nobility

Imperial Family

    Emperor Dekncraath

Dekn'craath

Appears in: Even the Stars Will Bleed.

The first Emperor of the Dekn, and father of the Storn. The first member of his race, Dekncraath was created by the god De'ebolus to serve as his avatar and vessel, as well as keep him company. Wielding De'ebolus's power, he was instrumental in creating (and, for a time, ruling) The Infernous, and later became responsible for the downfall of the royal Arkn Xeth'i'stral family.

  • Adaptational Villainy: He's just as manipulative, backstabbing, sadistic, and abusive as Hash'bor'kanibal, but seemingly has none of Hash'bor's redeeming qualities. (It doesn't help that any equivalent motives have yet to be explained in canon.)
  • Big Bad: He's the primary antagonist of Unity, being responsible for the conflict between the Arkn and Dekn and the downfall of the Xeth'i'stral family.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: It seems no one is safe where this guy is concerned.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: There's a very good reason why he's the creator of The Infernous.
  • The Corrupter: To the entire Arkn royal family. First, he infiltrated the ranks of Gilgamesh's army and manipulated the king, making him paranoid to wear he cut support for (and later wiped out) the city of Ridderon for suspicted treason. Next, he seduced the Queen Consort, Kry'atha, and convinced her to defect and become his empress. After that, he moved on to Gilgamesh's power-hungry son, Urabi, and convinced him to hand over his own son, Ell'epagi, in exchange for becoming a Dekn. As the icing on the cake, he dragged El'lepagi down into the Infernous, where he subjected him to centuries of torment and broke him down into a vengeful monster.
  • Divine Parentage: He was created by De'ebolus, making him Deebo's "son" in a sense.
  • The Dragon: Acts as one (as well as an avatar) for De'ebo.
  • The Emperor: He was the first (and formative) ruler of the Dekn empire, abiding over them for eons.
  • Hooks and Crooks: His weapon of choice is Imulsyr, a hand-held sickle.

    Empress Kry'toha

Kry'toha (neé Kry'atha)

Appears in: The Queen Reborn (mentioned), Rise of the Revenant

The former Arkn High Priestess and Queen Consort to King Gilgamesh, Kry'atha defected to the Dekn, becoming Kry'toha, wife of Emperor Dekncraath and Empress of the Dekn. She is the mother of the Storn and Ambriel.

  • Put on a Bus: She's an in-universe example, at least from the perspective of the Arkn people: while serving as the high priestess of the Arkn and consort to Gilgamesh, she fled and defected to the Dekn; because Gilgamesh refused to elaborate on the circumstances of her disappearance (out of pride), it appeared that she had simply vanished without a trace. After years passed with no news of her whereabouts, people came to believe that she had died under tragic circumstances and her death was covered up.
  • Stepford Smiler: According to her son, Hash'mal, her public image as a devout Arkn Priestess and loving queen consort was a facade; she was secretly miserable, because Gilgamesh refused to give her children. This is why she ultimately ran away with Dekncraath.
  • Sympathetic Adulterer: While less sympathetic than she was in Arknverse, Kry'atha was clearly miserable in her marriage to Gilgamesh, and felt incomplete without children — which Dekncraath was happy to give her.

    The Storn

"[I]n that place, where nightmares thrive to hunt and kill, five kids were to be born[,] and they would be known to the rest of Existence as The Storn. These five consisted of the Arkn Visionary Cele’Ra’Cria, the Darkn Prince Xerex, the Dekn Singer Samsi, the Dekn Emperor Clubs... And me... the Arkn Warrior Hashmal."

Hashmal on The Storn, A Revenant's Tale

The hybrid children of Dekncraath and Kry'atha, conceived in the Infernous. They range genetically from Arkn to Dekn, in direct correlation to Kry'toha's corruption (and how close she was to being a Dekn) at the time they were conceived.
