Connor is the main protagonist of the fic. He is a hedgehog hybrid granted the power to jump timelines via his contract with XD, which he makes in order to try and save his best friend. Connor is stubborn and secretive, and very emotionally-driven. He also seems to view himself as being a burden on the others early on in the fic, since he can't help them fight witches.

• Blessed with Suck: Applies to all magical boys, but especially Connor, since he's stuck constantly reliving a very traumatic experience.
• Broken Bird: Connor struggles to process his trauma and grief, and his outlet for it is self-destructive in nature, leading him to become distant and reserved.
• The Champion: His goal is to be this to Schlatt, wanting to prevent his death from happening at whatever cost.
• Clock of Power: Connor's time travel abilities are powered by twisting the dial on his pocket watch, which is controlled on the inside by his Soul Gem. The watch also allows him to slow down and stop time temporarily as need be.
• Color Motif: Blue. It reflects many aspects of his character, such as his melancholy and grief, and his undying hope that he can fix things somehow.
• Dark and Troubled Past: Connor's is presented in the first chapter — after witnessing the death of his partner, he makes a contract with XD and begins to spiral as he tries to prevent it in any way possible.
• Dark Magical Girl: Gender Inverted and heavily played with. While Connor tries to be a good person, he is brooding and his mental spiral has catastrophic effects on the world around him.
• Declaration of Protection: His wish is one, begging for XD to let him protect Schlatt.
• Determinator: Connor is extremely dedicated to saving Schlatt, no matter the cost.
• Emotion Suppression: Despite being driven almost entirely by emotion, he tries his hardest not to express it.
• Expy: Connor is clearly inspired by Homura — he time travels out of grief to attempt to prevent the death of one of his loved ones.
• Failure Knight: Played with. The person he's desperately trying to protect is the same person he failed to protect to begin with.
• Forced to Watch: Schlatt's death, over and over. It weighs pretty heavily on him.
• Heroic BSoD: Has one in reaction to Schlatt's death the first timeline.
  Connor freezes at the sound of the gunshot, his eyes glued to the scene of the battle.
• Little Bit Beastly: Connor is a hedgehog hybrid, and is described as having animal ears and a tail, something he uses to emote.
• The Load: In the beginning, Connor tags along with Schlatt and Ty when they go fight witches, without helping himself. This becomes subverted as the story progresses and he becomes more confident with his abilities.
• Mental Time Travel: Kind of. Connor actually jumps into a different timeline a little bit before the point in time he was at in the timeline he came from. Despite this, he essentially takes control of that timeline's version of himself, rather than physically traveling to the timeline.
• My Greatest Failure: Schlatt's death and his continued inability to stop it is the one thing driving Connor to keep going.
• The Oathbreaker: Connor promises to not make a contract with XD, which he breaks. In subsequent timelines, he makes this promise while already having done so.
• Protectorate: To Schlatt, though he's not very good at it, as hard as he tries.
• Took a Level in Badass: He goes from shy, reserved tagalong to emotionally scarred yet competent badass.

Schlatt

"I want you to be safe. That's all I've ever wanted. From you and Ty. It's bad enough as it is that Ty had already contracted before we met him, but you... You should know better!"

Schlatt is a sheep hybrid who wants to make the world a better place by defeating witches. He is confident, hardworking and compassionate, and is driven by his desire to improve the world, even just a little. He is also very protective of Connor and Ty, to the point of putting himself in danger.

• Adaptational Nice Guy: Schlatt in Dream SMP is a manipulative politician, which is a far cry from what he's shown as here.
• Bling-Bling-BANG!: Schlatt's signature weapon is a rifle that is frequently described as being flashy and decorative.
• Color Motif: Red, which reflects his confident and passionate personality.
• Dark Is Not Evil: Despite the black and red color scheme, Schlatt is a good guy through and through.
• The Fettered: Schlatt follows a strong sense of justice and believes that there's good in everyone.
• The Gunslinger: Guns are Schlatt's weapon of choice, and he's extremely proficient with them.
• Horned Humanoid: He has ram horns, due to being a Half-Human Hybrid.
• Hot-Blooded: Schlatt is quick to anger and can easily be provoked into a fight.
• Little Bit Beastly: While not used to emote as much as Connor, Schlatt is noted to also have animal ears and a tail, being a sheep hybrid, along with ram horns.
• The Mentor: He serves as a mentor to Ty.
• Sweet Sheep: Schlatt is a sheep hybrid who, while Hot-Blooded and rambunctious, is generally kind and wants to do the right thing.

Ty

Soul gem: Pink
Abilities: Unknown
Weapon: Axe & shield
Wish: Unknown

"I found a labyrinth. We should go check it out, right? After all, we can't leave a witch hanging around."

Ty is a young magical boy, around 16 years old, of an unknown species, who lives with Connor and Schlatt in their apartment. The two act as mentor / parental figures towards him. He is upbeat and hopeful, but overeager to run into battle. Despite his age, he's not to be looked down upon — he's a skilled fighter.

• Badass Adorable: Ty is designed to be a cute character that the reader feels protective towards. Despite this, he isn't helpless. He's just as powerful as the other magical boys — just younger and more naive.
• Color Motif: Pink, which represents his calmer personality and hopeful nature.
• Fatal Flaw: Ty is naive and hopeful to a fault, sometimes to the point of blindly getting himself into danger.
• The Heart: To Schlatt & Connor. He's kind, friendly, and never loses hope.
• Light Is Good: He's a good guy with a white and pink color scheme.
• Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Ty uses a shield, alongside his more traditional weapon choice of an axe. The shield is meant to represent his more passive nature.
• Parental Abandonment: While not actually his parents, and not intentional in the slightest, Ty's two parental figures end up leaving him alone — Schlatt dies, and Connor jumps to a new timeline to try to fix everything. It is worth noting, however, that his actual parents are never seen.

Karl

Wish: To protect the balance of the universe

"A few people get the witch's kiss and get dragged to their demise? Oh well. That means nothing in the grand scheme of things."

Karl is a magical boy who shares Connor's time travel abilities. He is mysterious and distant, and his colder nature makes Connor feel uneasy. Despite this, he doesn't seem to be outwardly malicious, and chooses to help Connor. He is largely concerned with maintaining the balance of the universe, with little regard to any individual person's emotions.

• Adaptational Jerkass: In Dream SMP, Karl is outgoing and friendly. In ATUSILY, Karl is cold and distant.
• Fatal Flaw: Karl is unable to focus on anything besides keeping balance in the universe. He has no concern for himself or even for other individual people, he cares only about the good of the entire world.
• Selfless Wish: Karl's wish is to protect the balance of the universe.

Incubator

"Let me put it simply. Connor, do you know where witches come from?"

XD is an incubator, similar to Kyubey from the original Madoka Magica series. It is described as being catlike in the fic, though officially-adopted fanart depicts it with features similar to those of an axolotl. It is cold and calculating, and takes advantage of people in bad situations.

• Adaptation Species Change: The original Dream SMP character is a deity, and here, it's an incubator.
• Cute Is Evil: XD is a small cute animal and the main antagonist.
• Manipulative Bastard: XD approaches young men and boys in bad situations in order to manipulate them into making contracts with it using their circumstances to its advantage.
• Mascot Villain: XD is presented as a cute creature that looks somewhat like an axolotl-cat hybrid. In actuality, it is a Manipulative Bastard toying with the lives of vulnerable young people.

Cantrelle

Labyrinth: Train station

Cantrelle is the first witch encountered in the story. It has yet to described in detail, but it makes its home in a train station filled with bright colors and loud, clashing music.

• Meaningful Name: "Cantrelle" means song. Wilbur Soot is a musician.
• Shout-Out: Cantrelle's labyrinth is a reference to the Wilbur Soot album Your City Gave Me Athsma, specifically the song "Jubilee Line".

Elowyn

Soul gem: White
Labyrinth: Forest

"You're such a fucking fool."

Elowyn is the second witch to be encountered. It appears as a creepy humanoid woman with long hair that covers its face. It wears a long trenchcoat that appears almost tree-like, and has fire abilities. It makes its home in a creepy distorted forest.
