The Three Magical Item Bearers
Chacha
- Barrier Warrior: At one point Chacha brings up her shield to protect against a volley of missiles. It wasn't needed because the magic circle she was standing in had a shield of its own.
- Combat Pragmatist: You know how most magical girls scuffle with their opponents just before unleashing their attack and defeating them? Magical Princess doesn’t do that and just prefers to jump straight to the finisher if she can.
- Genki Girl: She's bubbly, friendly, and playful.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: A very nice blonde girl, though she can lean towards Dumb Blonde on occasion.
- Little Red Fighting Hood: This is the red hood that has fought by herself against various demon world monsters, after all.
- Inept Mage: Her spells generally tend to wind up turning into something that sounds like what she wanted to appear.
- Invincible Hero: Magical Princess. Most of the villains were lucky to even get to attack her. She did have trouble more frequently in Season 2, but she still won all but one fight in the end.
- Lost Orphaned Royalty: She is the princess of the magic kingdom. Daimao turned her parents into stone when she was just a baby, and she was taken care of by Seravy ever since.
- Princess Protagonist: And not just because of her Magical Princess form.
- Red Riding Hood Replica: She fits the description quite well with her outfit and having a wolf companion.
- Scarf of Asskicking: Wears one as Magical Princess.
- Transformation Trinket: Her part of the Magical Princess items is a medallion.
Riiya
- Big Eater: Riiya LOVES to eat! And boy, does he love food. He'll eat anything as long as it's edible.
- Cute Little Fangs: Riiya's fangs often show up when he's grinning widely, as he's a wolf.
- Dogs Are Dumb: Even when he's in his wolf form, he's still not the smartest guy.
- Dub Name Change: In the obscure English dub, Riiya has the R in his name switched to an L, turning Riiya into Liiya.
- Dumb Muscle: Riiya is both ridiculously strong... and ridiculously stupid.
- Easy Amnesia: Riiya in the third episode, where after being accidently clonked on the head by one of Chacha's spells, gets his memory of him and his friends completely wiped, allowing Marine to declare him as her new boyfriend.
- The Nose Knows: Being a wolf, he has a good sense of smell, and is able to see through Seravy’s disguises because of it.
- Pint-Sized Powerhouse: He's the brawn of the trio and is quite strong despite his size.
- Transformation Trinket: His part of the Magical Princess Items is a bracelet.
- Super-Strength: He routinely manages to lift things many times his size.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Argues with Shiine a lot.
- Werewolves Are Dogs: He tends to be called a mutt when he's in his wolf pup form.
- Wonderful Werewolf: He's a little werewolf boy and the muscle powerhouse to his two magician friends. Besides being a friendly Nice Guy who cares for his friends, Riiya can also shape-shift himself into an adorable white wolf pup when necessary.
Shiine
- Comedic Underwear Exposure: Upon hearing that the kappas were monsters in episode 39 and their plans involving the group, he becomes so scared that he runs off without bothering to put his clothes on outside of a pair of tighty whities.
- Inept Mage: He's a little better than Chacha with his magic, but not by much.
- Transformation Trinket: His part of the Magical Princess items is a ring.
- Vitriolic Best Buds: Argues with Riiya a lot.
The Mentors
Seravy
Often regarded as "the world's greatest magician", he is both the teacher and caretaker of Chacha, and the childhood friend of Dorothy, his one true love. Unlike Chacha, he's great at whatever he does, but he's also incredibly weird, doing things such as always carrying around with him a doll called "Elizabeth", modeled after the young Dorothy, frequently speaking as Elizabeth using ventriloquism, and conveniently passing at several locations using a bizarre, sometimes Paper-Thin Disguise.
- The Ace: Though it may not seem like it, Seravy is the world's greatest magician, a title he only accidently took from Dorothy after knocking her on the head with a very large congratulatory bouquet of flowers.
- All-Powerful Bystander: He prefers not to get involved in conflicts, but he's still very powerful, so much so that Daimaou considers him the only real threat aside from Chacha, and admits that he's the only reason why he hasn't conquered the entire world.
- Characterization Marches On: Seravy, the borderline unpredictable Jerk with a Heart of Gold / Cloudcuckoolander used to be a stern and mature, yet kind teacher in the first few episodes.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Seriously, the guy's just disinterested and indifferent most of the time, but at least he'll secretly show up in the sidelines of the action when things get too rough.
- Master of Disguise: Played with. Seravy has a tendency to disguise himself, but his disguises are very obvious and most of the cast knows it’s him. It still tends to fool Daimao's minions, however.
- Meaningful Name: Sounds like "C'est la vie", which is the best way to describe his personality.
Dorothy
- Adaptation Dye-Job: Dorothy's hair color in the present day is black in the manga, but the anime changed it to a cerise (reddish-pink) color.
- Berserk Button: Pretty much ANY insult can automatically unleash her rage, but the one that takes the cake is calling her "ugly".
- Biting the Handkerchief: Shiine imagines her doing this while imagining the two being personal slaves to Access.
- Master of Disguise: Occasionally disguises herself with Seravy, and the same applies with her- the cast recognize her, the bad guys don’t.
- Monster of the Week: Takes the role in Episode 1 where she gets corrupted by a magic mirror Daimao sends to her. She ends up summoning a dragon, which Magical Princess defeats.
- Noblewoman's Laugh: Does this on occasion.
Outside Allies
Yakko
- Divergent Character Evolution: Yakko was a wizard like Chacha but switched to alchemy in later appearances.
- Likes Older Men: Arguably her defining character trait is that she is obsessed with Seravy, and not only wishes to move in with him and replace Chacha, but she also wants to marry him.
- Love Potion: Yakko was always trying to slip these to Seravy, but the never work.
- Magic Potion: Her main method of trying to combat people. This tends to go poorly for her.
- The Rival: Fancies herself to be Chacha's rival.
Marine
- Dirty Coward: At the first sign of trouble, Marine tends to spawn a shell and hide herself in it until the coast is clear.
- Magical Incantation: She repeats her own name repeatedly before using her wand.
Orin
- Absurdly Sharp Sword: Provided Orin can swing it, that sword of hers can cut anything.
- The Baby of the Bunch: Her age is never hinted at unlike the others, but it's implied that she's much younger than the other kids. The other girls even dote on her about her crush on Shiine.
- Ceiling Cling: The reason why it takes until Episode 8 for her to appear is that she was practicing doing this.
- Demoted to Extra: Her role is drastically reduced by the end of the series and becomes nothing more than a Bit Character.
- Dub Name Change: Suzu in the English dub.
