The protagonist of the story. After dedicating fifteen years to DEM and having his life ruined because of debt and dying, he got a reset to when he first started playing the game. Using the knowledge he has gained over the years, Eojin will use the opportunity to finally have the life he wanted.

  • The Ace: Thanks to the knowledge and muscle memories he amassed in 15 years of playing DEM, Eojin excels in both PVE and PVP, and even future talents are forced to admit that he is a great player, whether in the persona of Stagnant Water or Madongwang.
  • Adventure Duo: With Drake. Due to Eojin's desire to get items and equipment in DEM before everyone else and Drake's Thrill Seeker tendency, they make a good team.
  • Anti-Hero: Eojin's main goal is to have a better life and enjoy DEM to the fullest, and while he ends up helping people along his journey, that's not his priority at first.
  • Area of Effect: Eojin's main abilities as Madongwang has area of effect, such as "Earthquake", "Vortex" and "Blazing Step" make him a Person of Mass Destruction in DEM.
  • Attack Reflector: After getting the "Heart of Depraved" armor, which raises his defense by 500 and has the perk being able to reflect over 90% of damage back to the attacker.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Thanks to the years and experience he has accumulated in DEM, Eojin is practically a living excyclopedia of the game, making it very difficult for him to be caught off guard by either players or monsters, and even when that happens he quickly adapts and wins.
  • Becoming the Mask: His Madongwang identity is an interesting case. In the previous timeline, Madongwang's original user was involved in a match-fixing scandal, causing a crisis in DEM's professional PVP league and ended up getting banned for a year and a half. Knowing the gear and skill tree of the original Madongwang and deciding to prevent this from happening again, Eojin chose to impersonate him and becomes Madonwang in the new timeline.
  • The Dreaded: He acquired this reputation as Madongwang. An example of this is that in a Battle Royale Game, 26 of the 50 players in the match chose to team up to try to defeat him and were all killed. And in a one-on-one battle against Ryu Yomon, Eojin managed to instill such fear in him during the match that he was automatically logged out by the system due to nearing a terror-induced heart attack.
  • The Determinator: Playing the same game for fifteen years is a testament to tremendous dedication on Eojin's part.
  • Full-Frontal Assault: As good as Stagnant Water's armor attributes are, essentially he's wearing a skin suit and cape that leaves very little to the imagination. While Eojin isn't particularly bothered by this, it's no surprise that he's come to be called a pervert by the other players.
  • Genre Savvy: Knowing that one day he might have to prove that Stagnant Water and Madongwang are not the same person, he prepared for an enemy Doppelganger to assume Madongwang's form in a secluded place inaccessible to other players, on the assumption that he will be forced to make the two fight each other in the future. This caution proved correct, as about six months later Yoo Dae-Hee requested Madongwang PK Stagnant Water for her.
  • The Gambling Addict: This trait combined with him being a game addict to DEM caused him to make several investments both in-game and in real life that led him to financial ruin in the original timeline. And even after getting a second chance to start over, Eojin often continues to gamble, only the main difference is that he now has enough knowledge and experience about DEM and players that he hardly ever misses the bets he makes.
  • Goal in Life: His goal early on mostly revolved around getting the best items and getting rich while enjoying DEM to the fullest.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Especially when he's in the persona of Madonwang, whose gear excels in close quarters combat.
  • Hidden Heart of Gold: Due to Eojin being betrayed and used by Yoo Dae-Hee and her brother in the original timeline, he deliberately sabotages them whenever he can in the new timeline. But once he discovers that their reason for being Loan Shark was so they can afford to pay for their younger sister's expensive hospital treatment, Eojin decides to pay off all the debt in Madongwang's persona, hiding the true identity of their benefactor.
  • That One Player: Originally Eojin wasn't one, but still he was a hardcore MMORPG gamer who spent 15 years playing DEM. Once there was a reset and he came back when DEM was just released, he used his years of experience to become the greatest player in the game.
  • Living Legend: Eojin's two DEM characters, Stagnant Water and Madonwang, are considered living legends in the game, excelling in PVE and PVP respectively. In universe, players intensely debate which of the two is the better player, not knowing they are both the same person.
  • Meaningful Name: Eojin chose to use the DEM username of "Stagnant Water", which is a Korean slang to refer to people who obsess over a game for too long. Since Eojin continued to play DEM for fifteen years in the original timeline, the name is indeed fitting.
  • Playing Both Sides: He purposely created a discussion among players about who is a better DEM player: Stagnant Water or Madonwang, with many fans donating to whichever player they prefer to win the other. Since both players are Eojin, he benefits regardless of the winner.
  • Revenge: Deconstructed in relation to Yoo Dae-Hee and her brother. While it's understandable Eojin seeks to make them pay for all the trauma they caused him in the original timeline, due to the reset the siblings don't even know that Eojin has a grudge against them, and as far as they know Stagnant Water came out of nowhere and decided to sabotage them for no reason and as a result they now seek revenge on him for that.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Initially Eojin has no goal other than improve his own life. Once he met Dae-Hee's younger sister and understood her reasons for becoming a loan shark, Eojin decides to do what he can to help them.
  • Spanner in the Works: Thanks to the reset and his encyclopedic knowledge of the game he's amassed, Eojin's very existence puts a monkey wrench into the well-crafted plans of many players.
  • Taught by Experience: While the rest of the players are forced to discover the quest and dungeons in DEM on their own, Eojin has fifteen years of future knowledge and almost encyclopedic knowledge of the game, being able to finish the quests with eyes closed, literally.
  • Troll: Oh yes, he definitely is, with Yoo Da-Hee being his main victim. The fight staged between Stagnant Water and Madongwang is an example of this, as he obtained several donations for both characters from fans (including Yoo Da-Hee).

Kill Stagnant Water!!!

A beautiful and popular DEM player and the loan shark responsible for ruining Eojin's life in the original timeline. After the reset, Eojin seeks to get back at her by sabotaging her as much as he can in DEM.

  • Anti-Villain: In the end, her greed for money was to pay for her younger sister's treatment. She was never a bad person, just a very desperate one.
  • Berserk Button: Stagnant Water became one for her, due to him scamming and killing her over and over again in the game, with all her attempts to get revenge on him backfiring, which makes her hate him even more.
  • Big Brother Instinct: For all her flaws, she truly loves her siblings and she became her loan shark to get money to pay for her younger sister's hospital treatment.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: In the original timeline, Eojin was in love with Dae-Hee and took out loans trying to win her over, but it turned out that she and her brother were loan sharks. However, she has a Freudian Excuse for that.
  • BrokenPedestal: Eojin harbored romantic feelings for her and the reason he was financially ruined was because he took out a loan trying to win her affections, but he realized that she and her brother were loan sharks and just used him. After the reset, due to the trauma he went through, Eojin constantly deceives her and is always wary of her intentions. Ironically, he comes to know her better and her true self despite not wanting to become close to her anymore, understanding that she had her reasons for becoming loan shark, to the point that he decides to help her. He still keeps her at arms length - but he has no ill-will towards her anymore for what she did.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her younger sister, Sehee, is suffering from a serious illness and Dae-Hee and her brother have resorted to becoming loan sharks in order to pay for her expensive hospital treatment. Eojin concludes that Sehee was unable to overcame her illness and her death was the reason Dae-Hee why why she started using him in the original timeline and he decides to prevent that from happening in the new timeline.
  • Gamer Chick: She loves playing DEM and has become one of the best players on the original timeline. However, due to her younger sister's illness and the high cost of treatment, her priority has been making money rather than having fun.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Eojin did a wordplay for her, her reaction was to try to kill him on the spot. When he made the same joke on Madongwang's persona, Dae-Hee laughed and said that she likes that kind of joke.
  • Loan Shark: Along with her brother, she operates a scheme in which debtors essentially become slaves to them once they are unable to pay their debts, with Eojin having been a victim of them in the original timeline. Unlike most examples, it turns out that her reasons for being a loan shark are sympathetic.
  • Loves My Alter Ego: Ironically, she is fanatical about Madongwang, having turned her guild into his fan club, not knowing that he and Stagnant Water are the same person.
