This manga does this with enough regularity to make you think there's No Fourth Wall at all.

    In general
  • There's plenty of instances where the characters say (mostly with one-liners that never get argued though) what kind of manga this one should be as a sort of tsukkomi answer.

    Volumes 1 - 10

Volume 1

  • When Rentarou repeats the God of Love's important words in his head three times, the latter calls the former out on wasting panels.
    • In the anime, he complains that viewers will think some of his dialogue was cut out for the adaptation. This only gets further enhanced with a skip button being added and clicked in said scenario.
  • On his first day of school, Rentarou says that they won't make the readers wait another page, "so sense of reality ain't worth a damn".
  • In the anime, after Hakari takes Rentarou's hand, her thoughts are shown through a ghost floating above her head and having The Immodest Orgasm - and Karane is looking up to it.
  • Once Rentarou kisses Hakari, Karane and Shizuka for the first time in Chapter 5, the three express their desire to have a good relationship with him, all in the same last panel of the chapter and with the same phrase except for the end, to which he comments that the girls "sure know how to jam-pack [their] endings".
  • In the bonus story, Rentarou complains the girls are using the same joke as the previous entry.

Volume 2

  • After drinking her magnetization drug in Chapter 10, Kusuri mentions that if she and Rentarou had drunk the same polarity, they would have been chewed out for being in such a position, as the series is not 18+. Rentarou then tells her not to mention that in Young Jump, and protests that Young Jump is supposed to be wholesome when Kusuri announces that she needs to pee.
    • The omake has Rentarou and Kusuri reread the volume and comment on how they first met.
  • The end of Chapter 13 reassures the audience that the chapter in question is not the last chapter, and that the story will continue.
  • Rentarou carries a backpack that has anything he could possibly need on a date. Karane points out how ridiculously convenient it is.
  • Hakari is so happy at drawing the winning chopstick that she accidentally reverses her words and thoughts, which Karane comments on.
  • The characters are well aware the bonus chapter is a fanservice one, and react accordingly.
  • In the volume extras, the God of Love complains he didn't show up in the main story.

Volume 3

  • In Chapter 16, Rentarou claims that the readers will chew Kusuri out for carrying the specific drug the group needs to rescue Hakari, then says that the manga wouldn't hesitate to make him miss while putting the drops into his eyes.
  • In Chapter 18, Karane demands "all those wasted pages" back when Hahari tries to dismiss the results of the machine.
    • In Episode 11, Hahari tells Rentarou "Spoiler alert!" when he mentions that the episode has a special ending.
  • In Chapter 21, Karane accuses the manga of "flying off the rails".
  • In Chapter 22, Nano remarks that the manga should be acting more like a romcom.
  • Hakari points out when the manga has run for three volumes, and in the same conversation Nano says that’s six months of real time. Hahari then remarks that she has only been dating Rentarou for five chapters.
    • After swapping bodies with Hahari, Karane frantically tells the manga to stop playing "Zenzenzense", the theme song from Your Name, in the background, and namedrops Jasrac.
  • In the extras for Volume 3, Hahari says that Rentarou seeing her breasts is a little reward for the readers who enjoy the series enough to have bought the volume.

Volume 4

  • In Chapter 25, the mangakas decided that the readers would be bored with exposition, so the artist drew two panels of the announcer (not one of the harem) in dripping, sexy clothes. Karane promptly asks what the hell is up with that background.
    • Karane refers to the group as "the protagonist's team".
    • The group wonders if the perspective in the second panel Takeko appears in is the same as the one in her previous panel.
    • The omake features another picture of the announcer in dripping, sexy clothes, and when Karane demands to know why, the announcer explains the mangakas thought everyone would appreciate a new sexy drawing from the artist.
  • In Chapter 29, Karane complains about the various absurdities of the manga, like its outrageous drugs, four-dimension stomachs, and thingsnote  that rival Mount Everest.
  • Chapter 31's omake sees Mei attempt to leave the volume altogether, but Rentarou tears through it to follow her.
  • In Chapter 32's omake, the God of Love got soaked as well so he could show up twice in the volume.
  • In the bonus story, Mei explains her background was cut because it was so heart-rending it clashed too much with the manga's tone. Upon hearing her provide an outline, the others are quick to agree.
    • Hahari gives Mei a quick squeeze at the end to use up a panel.

Volume 5

  • Chapter 34 has several in succession. Karane complains that Iku joins the harem only two chapters after Mei did, to which Nano comments about the pacing, and later on, when Rentarou is wearing nothing but a loincloth, Nano muses that the story has gone Off the Rails.
  • In Chapter 37, Rentarou says the latest bout of hijinks is down to the author being messed up in the head.
  • In Chapter 39, when Rentarou finds out that his offhand guess that Nano was the only girl to outdo Mimimi in beauty was correct, he apologizes to the readers for the unwitting spoiler and begs them not to drop the series.
  • In Chapter 41's omake, the Hanazonos complain Karane's speech bubble covered up the most important part of Rentarou's Art Shift into Michaelangelo's David.

Volume 6

  • In Chapter 42, Iku says Nozawa-sensei had been waiting for a chance to draw a Naughty Tentacles situation. Karane points out that Nakamura is the one who wrote this situation. Shizuka just basically calls them both perverts.
    • Inverted in the next scene. Hahari’s car is unmolested due to Hahari not lusting after it, and Karane comments that if it had anime characters all over it, they’d be well and truly screwed.
    • When the family enters Hahari's car, suddenly it's unable to start. Rentarou initially thinks it's because the author is worried that the car is over capacity.
  • In Chapter 45, a strong wind blows a signboard into Meme - Rentarou points out that the author angled the signboard edge first, and thinks he's trying to kill her.
    • When Rentarou finally confesses to Meme, she gets so embarrassed that she vanishes forever, causing the chapter to end prematurely and the narrator to claim the series will be retitled "The 99 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You". Rentarou responds by tearing the offending pages right out of the manga.
Rentarou: I'm gonna flip this miserable script!
  • In Chapter 46, Rentarou figures out that Meme was hiding in the Vice Principal's hair because her head's design was much bigger than normal. Hakari comments that the Vice Principal is a Recurring Extra who doesn't get drawn often, so they didn't notice.
  • The God of Love complains about getting badly drawn in the volume extras.

Volume 7

  • Rentarou calls out their publishing company in Chapter 51, after getting the Love at First Sight shock with his cousin Chiyo, who's in her first year of junior high.
Rentarou: Is this even...? Are you really okay with this, Shueisha!?
  • It continues into Chapter 52, where after Chiyo introduces herself to the other girlfriends, an angry Karane asks if Rentarou realizes all the things wrong with this. A sweating Rentarou says that as long as they're still being published, they're probably in the clear (with a footnote saying the author's ready to dump all the blame on Shueisha the moment the need arises).
    • Also in Chapter 52, Chiyo and Nano get into an argument about the existence of heaven. Chiyo pulls out the manga volume with the Baby Morph Episode and points out Rentarou being taken away by angels, causing Nano to go into a Heroic BSoD for the rest of the chapter over the lack of realism.
  • Chapter 53 removes the wall altogether in order to plug series merch, with Rentarou expressing his hope that Iku, Mimimi, Meme and Chiyo get merch if the current round of merch sells well enough, and the girls expressing their desire for merch featuring Rentarou.
    • In the omake, the God of Love hopes he gets a keychain in the second wave of merch.
  • The God of Love continues complaining about how he's getting drawn in the volume extras.

Volume 8

  • Chapter 61 has copies of the manga itself being sold at a bookstore, along with Rentarou listening in on two guys talking about the manga.
  • Yamame in Chapter 64 is introduced as so attuned with nature, a text box wonders if she's actually a robot from Castle in the Sky. The suggestion offends Rentarou so much, he grabs the text box and breaks it into pieces.
  • In the Chapter 67 omake, Yamame topples over because she thinks her blazing aura is a fire. Iku points out it's just a visual effect for the manga.

Volume 9

  • Chapter 69 utterly obliterates the wall by having Rentarou visit Nozawa-sensei and help draw and ink the manga himself.*
Rentarou: I enjoyed doing it, it was fun and all, but man was it tough... (points at a shadow) Oh, I inked in that black, right there.
    Momiji: Truly incredible.
    • The omake reveals that if the God of Love had been drinking while distracted with Castle in the Sky, Nozawa-sensei would have been one of Rentarou's soulmates.
  • In Chapter 71, one of Chiyo's classmates claims that 100GF is more expensive and worse for the brain than cigarettes.
  • During Chapter 76, Hakari remarks that the Imagine Spot of Chiyo tied up has to be illegal to show, considering how young Chiyo is.

Volume 10

  • In Chapter 78, Hakari remarks that dressing in bikinis for the photoshoot gives Nozawa-sensei a chance to draw swimsuits two weeks in a row.
  • In Chapter 82, Hahari mentions that the absurd number of people present may have made the audience forget that Kishika only defeated fifteen girls.
  • In Chapter 84, Kurumi points out they're doing a Baby Morph Episode again, Nano comments there's a high probability the manuscript was late, and Hakari says a weekly series with 18 main characters was always going to be too much for the author.
    • Hahari explains that the reason she wants everyone to try on baby clothes is because the readers (as well as herself) want to see the girls who haven't been babified yet become babies.
  • In Chapter 85, Rentarou recalls that the God of Love already made a "nightmarish" entrance in Chapter 1, and the God points out that he's also appeared in the volume extras since then. He then complains about having to wait until Chapter 85 to make another appearance, and Rentarou defends Nozawa-sensei by saying that she must have her hands full spotlighting all the girls.
  • In Chapter 86, Kusuri and Momiji discuss how pocky was originally called bocky in chapter 2.

    Volumes 11 - 20

Volume 11

  • In Chapter 88, Iku peers through a page when Karane shoves a stack of cookies into Rentarou's face.
  • In Chapter 94, Rentarou muses on whether he can be together with all of his girlfriends, reflecting that Nozawa-sensei only has two hands, only one of which is dominant, and if the author insisted on every girlfriend being a regular character, he could well be infringing on her human rights. The chapter ends with Momiji asking Nozawa-sensei if she needs a massage.
  • The volume extras reveal Ahko and Uto had a bit of trouble staging the cover.

Volume 12

  • In Chapter 100, Hahari mentions having asked Nozawa-sensei to redraw whoever gets named in first place in the character poll in a special dress. It turns out every vote in the poll was done by the characters themselves, with Rentarou and the girlfriends voting each other into collective first place - and true to her word, Nozawa-sensei draws Rentarou and the girlfriends in special dresses.

Volume 13

  • Normally, the girls get beautiful art for their confession scene. Momoha instead gets beautiful art when she straight up asks Rentarou for sex in Chapter 108. Rentarou's reaction?
Rentarou: YOU'RE RUINING THIS BEAUTIFUL ART!
  • In Chapter 109, the Big Cheese of the Publishing Biz confronts Rentarou in his dream to overrule his idea to provide fake beer to all of his girlfriends.

Volume 14

  • In Chapter 114, Mai internally yells about getting "ba-dmp ba-dmp" sound effects (the sound of her heart throbbing) off her, and Kurumi complains when Mai tries to pass them off as hers instead.
  • Mai thinks she made such an awesome shot in Chapter 116 that she wants a copy of Young Jump so she can cut out the panel and frame it.
  • Rentarou muses his search for Meme in Chapter 122 took 3000-odd pages.

Volume 15

  • In Chapter 125, Kusuri complains about the "stupid idiot moron author" making the manga so dumb she can't have a dramatic run in peace.
  • In Chapter 127, Kusuri's solution to "that moron author" writing so much dialogue the speech bubbles will cover up everyone's swimsuits is to provide a drug that limits everyone's speech to two words at a time.
  • Chapter 130 is where the manga makes its anime announcement, with the characters all reacting to the idea.

Volume 16

  • When the girls complain about not having birthdays in Chapter 133, Uto speaks on behalf of the author to ask when would be the right time to bring it up. Kishika retorts that the author can just make the right time.
    • Mei mentions that Rentarou's birthday is 5/1. Shizuka snarks that she's just addressing it to thin air, to which Mei replies that it's for the honored readers.
  • In Chapter 140, Yaku is confused about Kusuri wanting to see her on TV since the manga is slated to get an "Annie-May" (anime) soon.

Volume 17

  • When Rentarou zings with Tama in Chapter 141, he wonders what the author expects him to do with this.
  • Hahari mentions in Chapter 147 that readers were expecting her to adopt Tama as a "pet".
  • Hakari praises Rentarou in Chapter 148 for noticing so quickly that the girls swapped their bodies. Rentarou affirms that the readers probably figured it out by now as well.
    • The chapter ends with Rentarou wondering if Iku or Uto is currently in Kurumi's body. While "Ahko" openly asks who cares, "Naddy" suggests the author wanted to end the chapter on a cliffhanger.
  • The Big Cheese of the Publishing Biz threatens to reappear in Chapter 149 when Momoha, in Mimimi's body, attempts to take a swig of alcohol.

Volume 18

  • When Rentarou zings with Himeka in Chapter 150, he happens to be monologuing at the same time, and wonders if his monologue covered up the zing effect. He turns the page back and takes a peek at the last panel, just to be sure.
  • Chapter 151 ends with the girls presenting Himeka with copies of the manga showcasing Rentarou's ungodly feats over the course of the story.
  • In Chapter 157, Chiyo notices a Mother’s Day poster and becomes confused about the manga’s timeline.

Volume 19

  • In Chapter 160, Rentarou discusses how 100 Girlfriends is a Romantic Comedy that's sometimes a Gag Series, with Karane pointing out how difficult other romcoms have it with 100GF being around.
  • In Chapter 161, Nano mentions how it feels so much longer since she graduated junior high, which she attributes to the gravity of 161 chapters.
  • Chiyo objects to how little resistance the ten most recent girlfriends have to being the newest victims of the now traditional Baby Morph Episode in Chapter 167, to which Kishika takes a jab at the flippancy of the manga.
    • When Hahari starts gushing over the freshly baby-fied girlfriends whilst also taking photos, Kurumi tells her to pick a lane as the two seperate actions are messing up her sound effects.

Volume 20

  • In Chapter 169, Usa-chan explains how she tried to blend into Rentarou's Family with the hopes that no one would call her out. Karane mocks the ridiculousness of such a plan, but Hakari notes that's basically what happened in the previous chapter.
  • During their efforts in Chapter 171 to nurse Rentarou back to health by making him think that the Stacked Woman-Ponytail-Knit Sweater combo is the best, Hahari starts singing the anime's special ending as a lullaby. The other present girls call it out, and Hahari admits she just sings it from time to time due to its high view count on Youtube.
    • At the end of the chapter, Hakari uses a claim she made about checking a person's temperature with both her forehead and her lips as an excuse to give Rentarou a smooch. He immediately makes the connection to the exact same thing said in Chapter 2.
Rentarou: Took 169 chapters for that foreshadowing to pay off.
  • In Chapter 172, Ahko mentions that she can't understand more difficult manga, so she's happy that 100GF is easy to get.
  • In Chapter 173, Kusuri frets over how the readers must think its not fair that she gets to double dip in the outfit combo trilogy due to her two forms.
