Tom and Jerry (Japanese: とむとじぇりー, romanized: Tomu to Jerī) is a series of chibi anime shorts based on the eponymous cat and mouse duo, debuted on Cartoon Network Japan during "Cheese Day" (November 11th) and shown exclusively in that region.
A Lighter and Softer version of its western slapstick counterpart, this series takes a more Kawaiiko style on the characters, though still retaining some of the slapstick and essence from the original theatrical shorts.
The shorts can be seen on the official Warner Bros. Japan YouTube channel (Japanese only).
This series has examples of:
- Ascended Meme: In the first episode, Jerry eats an entire piece of cheese and takes the shape of it like in the "Fit to Be Tied" episode, the latter used for the I Know He Ate a Cheese meme.
- Dinner Deformation: Jerry takes the form of a piece of cheese after eating it as in the original "Fit to Be Tied" episode, and Tom takes the form of a watermelon and a star after involuntarily gulping those in "Doki Doki! Party Time!" and "Rainbow Candy Shop", respectively.
- Heart Beats out of Chest: In "Bubble! Bath Time", Jerry's heart beats out of his chest once he sees Tom coming out of the bathtub to get him and Tuffy.
- Sapient Eat Sapient: More so than even in the original series. Tom here seems to want to have Jerry and Tuffy as snacks rather than just attempt to squash them or throw them out of the house. This is even more notorious in "Fluffy! Bakery".
- Super-Deformed: Tom, Jerry and Tuffy have noticeably larger heads and eyes. Tom also has a small body.
