Half Life:Full Life Consequences 2: What HasTobe Done

John Freeman, having helped Gordon defeat the final boss, only to see him die under the foot of the next boss, walks "like speed of light" back to the motorcycle. If John Freman can walk so much faster, one has to wonder why he bothers with the motorcycle, especially considering that he soon runs out of gas.

John Freeman dismounts and lands on "dead people's hands", noting that Gordon's as dead as they are and hoping to kill the boss "to live up to full life consequences". He then test fires a laser on a tree, but saves some bird eggs saying that they don't have to see Gordon Freeman yet. Melodrama can be annoying, but after a certain point it becomes amusing.

John Freeman gets back to the office, which is fairly quick considering that he lost his vehicle. He looks up the next boss' weakness on the internet( and is evidently prepared to fight him now. If there's one thing I can say about bad fanfics, it's that they often move things along fairly quickly. They may be rushed, but they often don't dwell on things for inordinately long amounts of time.

John Freeman gets an e-mail from his mother, asking how he is and expressing a desire to see him and Gordon Freeman again soon, referring to both the brothers- her sons- by their full names. If the fic took itself more seriously, this would be quite the Tear Jerker, reminiscent of the scene from Code Geass in which Nunnally calls Lelouch and asks whether she can see someone close to both of them soon, unaware that the person in question is already dead or what happened before she died.

John Freeman expresses his desire to kill the boss, and sets out on his motorcycle again with his weapons, heading to Ravenholm. He then encounters some more "zombie goasts," and when he tries and fails to negotiate with them to avoid having to shoot them like he did before, they attack, and he kills them. One has to wonder why he didn't try the diplomatic approach on the first group of zombie goasts in the previous installment, who seemed more receptive to it.

John Freeman encounters the next boss laughing, and enraged by this, shoots him with a rocket and kills him, having attacked his weak spot.

Naturally, all of this should sound familiar, to say the least, except for the reversed roles in the zombie goast encounter, and John Freeman not encountering the cop. Of course, the fic seems somewhat aware of this, and is relatively good about remembering previous events.

John Freeman buries the two dead bosses, and stands over his brother's body, telling him that he is dead now and that he killed the evil boss. Gordon Freeman then rises with a headcrab on his body and says that he's now a zombie goast and intends to make John Freeman pay.

As the Shocking Swerve article notes, a good twist is difficult to pull off, but many inexperienced authors still try to do it. Given the general quality of most fan fiction, it should come off as no surprise that fanfic writers tend to write twists without foreshadowing them. Naturally, this is one such fanfic, and, much like Light and Dark The Adventures of Dark Yagami, it can be entertaining to read in a So Bad, It's Good sense because you never know what will happen next.

On a side note, this is the one hundredth liveblog entry I have written. I appreciate those who have read and commented on them thus far.

Next up is Hero Beggining.

What I liked

  • The hilarious melodrama from John Freeman
  • The author using unpredictable twists.

What I didn't like

  • The Recycled Script; I'd hoped for some new nonsense from the author this time.
