*** Improbable, for the simple reason that the Romans ''weren't'' oppressing the Jews, not during Jesus' lifetime: Mark Anthony had demanded excessive taxes from the Judaean protectorate but that ended after Augustus defeated him, and while the Romans started taxing directly once Judaea became a province they were careful to not cause oppression and get the province in full rebellion, even removing Pilate for being too heavy handed in suppressing a Samaritan revolt (Roman attitude was usually "So what?")

[[WMG: The only reason Sayake was offered magical girlhood was to entice Madoka]]
Note that during Homura's first two loops, Sayake isn't shown to have been a magical girl. It's only after Madoka starts getting more and more potential from the time loops that Sayake is suddenly seen as a member of the group. It's also known that Sayake is the weakest member of the group. It's possible that Kyubei originally didn't consider her a candidate, but chose to also offer her the status so that Madoka wouldn't have to distance herself from all her old friends, making it more likely she would accept the contract.

Eventually they found and saved a human girl dissatisfied by the brutality of Nature and willing to enter a contract. That girl was Eve. The wish was Knowledge, to create Human Civilization that shall have Dominion over Nature instead of being dominated by it, as indicated by Kyubey's quote "[[AncientAstronauts If it wasn't for us, then you humans would still be naked and living in caves]]". Since there was no witches to fight, Eve would solely use her powers to protect humanity, invent various technologies that humans can use, and guide civilization. But Eve eventually succumbed to despair, and so she became the first witch; Lilith, starting the cycle amongst humans.

* This can also mean, ''we're all descended from a Magical Girl.'' But as hope and despair balance out to zero, and this inevitably transforms Magical Girls into Witches, so must humanity as a whole inherit the same curse: mental illnesses, wars, suffering and hatred. Of all Earth's species, Humans are the most intelligent, yet also the cruelest. This is the basis for Original Sin.

[[WMG: How the series will end in the fourth movie.]]
The film will begin with Homura attending school with Madoka. As they go about their day, Madoka says hi to their other friends, and Homura subtly uses her powers to cause them some kind of minor misfortune out of spite (Mami spilling tea on herself, Kyoko and Nagisa's food being stolen by birds, Sayaka embarrassing herself in front of Kyosuke and Hitomi, etc). This has become routine for her. As the day ends and everyone heads home, Homura briefly stops to remind Kyubey of his duties. Kyubey at this point is in terrible pain from all the curses it has been forced to absorb, and laments that it is being forced to feel emotions (all of them negative). As Homura leaves, Kyubey begs her to end its existence. And then it realizes that it can use its own powers to do just that. Kyubey ceases to exist, and with nobody left to absorb the curses, things begin to go sideways. The change is subtle at first, so much so that Homura doesn't immediately notice, but as more and more people begin to get angry, to argue with each other and fight, she realizes that something is wrong, especially when Madoka comments on how terrible it is. Homura tries to fix everything, but the more she exerts her influence, the more curses appear, until every former magical girl that lives in her new world begins turning into a witch. This culminates in Madoka herself transforming into her witch form and lashing out at Homura, who desperately cries that everything she ever did, she did for Madoka's sake. The witches come together and combine into Walpurgisnacht, which threatens to destroy everything. Homura does battle with the witch, but finds that with Madoka's influence, they are evenly matched. Her universe begins to crack...and the Law of the Universe is able to get in. Using her powers, she separates her own witch from Walpurgisnacht and reabsorbs it into herself, becoming whole once more. Her powers and memories restored, Madoka begins separating the other witches from Walpurgisnacht one by one and restoring them, allowing her friends to join the fight. Eventually, Walpurgisnacht is defeated, and Homura collapses to the ground, exhausted. She realizes that she was wrong, and watches as Madoka approaches. She reaches her hands toward Homura...and wraps them around her neck. Confused, Homura looks at Madoka's face and is horrified. Gone is the gentle and merciful goddess with whom she fell in love, now there is only bitter rage. As Madoka tightens her grip, Homura's earring, housing both of their soul gems, begins to glow. Madoka's gem begins to devour Homura's, and Madoka snaps her neck with a sickening crack. Standing up, Madoka softly proclaims that she has been too lenient; her wish was to destroy all witches, and that is exactly what she is going to do. She suddenly rounds on Sayaka, who is too shocked to flee, and her soul is extinguished. Kyoko, Mami, and Nagisa follow soon after. Madoka begins erasing every magical girl in attendance, followed by the destruction of Valhalla and every soul she has ever taken there. She then targets every potential magical girl, followed by every human, and finally the universe itself ceases to exist. As Madoka floats in the empty void, she reflects that the incubators' efforts to save the universe from destruction only served to damn it, and now there is only one witch left to destroy. She places a hand on her chest and obliterates her soul gem, and a hole burns in the film.

* From a different troper: Details for how may be specific to each girl's circumstances and likely requires a very close relationship between the girl and anyone that may be critical in "bringing her back from the brink" - not necessarily RomanticTwoGirlFriendship levels, but at least someone whom the Witch would be able to let down her defenses and accept that "this person in front of me is not a threat and wants to help." However, given that: 1) Witches are running chiefly on emotion and are usually not being rational (and Sayaka is moreover rather headstrong), 2) the one who would be most able to reach out is often the same one who is at the root of the conflict (and therefore would elicit hostile reactions - Hitomi would pretty much have to be willing to face death), and 3) the difficulty in finding someone to be the one to reach out (other magical girls are often suspicious and not prone to cooperation on such a deep level, non-magical girls may be skeptical and will be ''very'' vulnerable), any such endeavour probably won't have odds better than the lottery. And even if Kyubey were to ever somehow calculate that successfully bringing this particular Witch back ''would'' be beneficial entropy-wise in the long run, the amount of time and effort needed to find someone that might be able to pull it off (and therefore not spent on making contracts/cultivating Witches/harvesting energy)[[note]]rational ignorance on the part of the Incubators - they don't know how because the potential benefit is far too little to justify the potential cost of even finding out how, much less actually doing it[[/note]] plus the risk of losing so many potential Witches via dead magical girls (including any potential future ones, e.g. Hitomi) would most likely be too much to bet on the line. TL;DR - It might be possible, but the odds of pulling it off are so remote even in the best case scenario it's not worthwhile for Kyubey to find out.

The Incubators and the Producers simply gave the NoConservationOfEnergy HandWave about "losing Energy" because they thought Madoka and the audience were idiots who cannot understand the real cause of the End of the Universe As We Know It, and so can only understand a bite-sized version of Middle School Thermodynamics instead of Incubator-level Theoretical Physics stuff such as dark matter and dark energy. Also because the revelation of Kyubey (aka "Mr. MetaphoricallyTrue") meant the sudden and sloppy GenreShift of this anime from a Faustian MagicalGirl fantasy into an Asimov-like speculative Science Fiction, and so they simply never had the time and the enough level in the MohsScaleOfSciFiHardness to discuss and theoretically demonstrate the ramifications and consequences of the how [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt The End of the Universe As We Know It]] will happen, while still retaining the Madokaverse's central theme of EquivalentExchange.

** Adolf Hitler was in fact a Puella Magi. All he wished for was the unification and prosperity of Germany, for Germany to become the supreme leader of Europe... but that drove him into insanity and create the most genocidal empire of all time. She is a witch who has taken on the form of a dog in the hope of being loved by all. Her minions are interior decorators who just stand around aimlessly. As a human girl, Uhrmann was from a well-off family, but her life was unhappy. Her mother was a shallow kind of person who valued material possessions and beautiful things over her family and treated her dog, an expensive designer breed, better than her daughter. Uhrmann was taught that she should just stand still and be quiet at all times because she wasn't good for anything else, hence the familiars who don't do anything. Her wish was to become more beautiful so her mother would love her more, but when it didn't work, she fell into despair and became a witch. When Roberta was a teenager, she had strict parents who never allowed her to do anything fun or hang out with classmates or friends. (Her witch form is an IronicHell because she escaped the “cage” that was her strict household, only to fall into a different “cage” later on -- namely, an addiction to drugs and alcohol.) When she was a young adult, she made a wish to be free from the strict life she had once led. So, elated by her newfound freedom, she overcompensated. She started going to wild parties, drinking lots of alcohol, and having sex with boys. She had also been plain-looking in her childhood, but had grown up to become quite beautiful and attracted a lot of male attention, which she greatly enjoyed. Unfortunately, she did not know how to do these things in moderation. She had not yet learned self-restraint, and was enjoying these things way too much because nobody had taught her about the possible negative consequences of overdoing them.

When she was a young adult, she made a wish to be free from the strict life she had once led. So, elated by her newfound freedom, she overcompensated. She started going to wild parties, drinking lots of alcohol, and having sex with boys. (As a magical girl, her weapons were Molotov cocktails.) She had also been plain-looking in her childhood, but had grown up to become quite beautiful and attracted a lot of male attention, which she greatly enjoyed. Unfortunately, she did not know how to do these things in moderation. She had not yet learned self-restraint, and was enjoying these things way too much because nobody had taught her about the possible negative consequences of overdoing them.

But, one day, Roberta met a man who seemed like everything she had ever dreamed of. He acted so gentlemanly and kind towards her. She instantly fell in love with him and they started a relationship. He said to her he’d never met a girl like her before. She was so happy that she started to get her life back on track, and even made steps toward kicking her addictions...but somehow, she found out he’d had many other girlfriends before her. He had told all of these other girls the same beautiful, romantic things he had told her, only to quickly lose interest in them and move on, leaving a trail of broken hearts behind him. In despair, she asked him if it was true, and he laughed at her and told her that she was naive for being fooled by his sweet words. He said something like, “Did you really think I meant all of those things I said? Who could ever love a mess of a person like you?” Filled with rage and grief, she killed him, fell into the DespairEventHorizon and transformed into a witch.

Something that made her realize the partying lifestyle wasn't as glamorous as it first seemed. But by this time, she had become addicted to it. Addicted to all the things that helped her forget about her own deeper insecurities — partying, alcohol (and possibly hard drugs), and sex. At first she had been so happy that she had finally become beautiful and that men found her attractive (maybe as a teenager, she had self-image issues and/or was bullied for her looks), but came to realize that none of her partners ever saw her as more than a glorified blow-up doll. Secretly, she hated herself for her addiction, but she couldn’t stop. She kept on partying, living, and fighting until the alcohol and/or drugs destroyed her body, causing her to fall into despair and become a witch. Her witch form is an IronicHell because she escaped the “cage” that was her strict household, only to fall into a different “cage”, the trap of alcohol and drug addiction.

Roberta, known as the "birdcage witch", is constantly filled with rage. She is described as being fond of alcohol, and is surrounded by bird-like familiars known as Gotz. They are described as idiotic men who constantly try to woo her, but she views them as objects of disgust. According to production notes, she was in her mid-20s to -30s when she became a witch.

When Roberta was a teenager, she had strict parents who never allowed her to do anything fun or hang out with classmates or friends. [[WMG:It is completely impossible for normal magical girls to kill Walpurgisnacht.]] (In this context, "kill" means "reduce her to a Grief Seed", not just "temporarily defeat her", "hold her off", or "make her go away".)]]

The only one with the potential to permanently kill Walpurgisnacht is Madoka in her most powerful (pre-Godoka) magical girl form, but of course that's a PyrrhicVictory as she has to use up all her magic to do so and then turn into the even bigger, planet-devouring Kriemhild Gretchen. Madoka becoming a goddess and RetGone-ing Walpurgisnacht out of existence and absorbing her into the Law of Cycles was the only way to defeat her for good. (For the purpose of this theory, ''Madoka Magica Portable'' does not count [in which it is possible to defeat Walpurgisnacht and retrieve her Grief Seed]).

That is to say, she cannot be "killed" by normal means. Ever. Even when she seems to be defeated (like the 3rd timeline where Homura and Madoka faced her and won, but at the cost of almost turning into witches themselves), she doesn't die, she simply runs out of steam and disappears to somewhere else, like a hurricane that eventually dissipates when it travels over land or cold water. Ever notice how she never seems to drop a Grief Seed? Even Madoka in her most powerful (pre-Godoka) form cannot vanquish her without the law of EquivalentExchange requiring that she use up all her magic to make Walpurgisnacht go away and in the process turn into Kriemhild Gretchen. Albertine was a very young girl when she contracted. Her parents were very harsh, to the point of being abusive, and would punish her severely for telling a lie, even about the smallest things. She would always run and hide whenever they were angry, hence her witch form's enjoyment of hide-and-seek. Her wish was to be able to hide from her parents or go to a place where they couldn't find her (or something to that effect). Her magical girl form gave her the ability to
conceal herself and create fun spaces where she could play without fear of being discovered. But since all she did was run and hide, she did not get into fights with any witches, and eventually the loneliness of always playing by herself got to be too much, causing her to become a witch herself. Alternatively, because of her young age and inexperience with fighting, she was mortally wounded in her first battle with a witch, and the despair of dying caused her to witch out.
