* TrollingCreator: The devs are prone to trolling the fanbase, such as showcasing the fake Glitch AI (a busty woman with a horse's head) which was later replaced with a wizard Glitch. The horse head was later used for the Novakid AI, minus the woman's body.

* ScheduleSlip: The game was originally scheduled for a summer 2013, but missed the deadline. The development team has now given a rough estimate as to the release date of their game for "when it's done". Thankfully, those who pre-ordered are guaranteed beta access by the end of the year. * ShoutOut:
** A few screenshots show demo players wielding clear nods to the assault rifle from the ''Franchise/{{Alien}}'' franchise.
** The tool that players use to place and build is very similar to the Covenant plasma pistol from ''Franchise/{{Halo}}''.
** One of the head options for the robot race Glitch is clearly meant to look like the iconic helmet of ''Franchise/{{Dead Space}}'' protagonist Isaac Clarke.

** Bombs look exactly like [[SuperMarioBros bob-ombs]] without legs.
** [[VideoGame/{{Minecraft}} Creepers and Diamond Pickaxes]] will also be in this game.
** In [[http://playstarbound.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/glow.png this mockup]], a [[{{Pokemon}} Poke Ball]] can be seen on one of the posters.
** One of the possible technologies that has been shown is a [[{{Metroid}} morph ball]].
** Two of the glitch heads look like the helmets worn by the band Music/DaftPunk (a single visor with lights across it and a large display that goes to the top of the skull).
** A piece of lore has the phrase "She was not the outcast I was looking for". It may be coincidence, but it could be said that she was "not the droid he is looking for".
