**Au contraire. Several decades ago, the series had a song sequence about "There's more than one way for a family to be" (single parent, grandparents and grandchildren, etc.). This is just lazy writing, similar to another early segment in which a kangaroo sings about the woes of carrying somebody else around in one's pocket all the time -- in a MALE voice. Much more recently, a live-action sequence has two of the series regulars changed into bees and, cringe-makingly, meeting a MALE worker honeybee. However, a different segment does get it right by showing a male ladybug, who points out that not all ladybugs are girls.

* In ''WesternAnimation/TheRenAndStimpyShow'', mosquitoes suck blood and prepare to lay eggs. Between their gruff voices and casual use of "man," they sure sound like they should be capable of neither.

* ''DungeonsAndDragons'' has a race of insect-like creatures called Dromites. Dromites are genderless with the exception of the Grand Queen and Elected Consort, both of whom are responsible for populating the entire city hive. Also, the Queen and her Consort are elected every year, so how exactly the dromites gain sexual characteristics is unknown. However, it does resemble real life in that neither the Grand Queen or the Elected Consort does much, so ruling is presumably left to the normal dromites.

This makes no sense. 1. Why would you? And 2. Tripling two numbers does not change the ratio between them. Only excuse I can think of is that you consider the ONE striped head the \"female\"...

** On one hand, Combee is 87.5% male, 95.8333% male if you count each Combee's heads as an individual entities. Work appears to be done by ALL the Combee, as evidenced by the fact that all Combee can only have the ability Honey Gather, which makes Combee randomly collect Honey if it isn't holding an item. This plays the trope straight.
