She and Alphonse make a suicide pact in chapter 4; however, she survives, as Alphonse switches the poison she was going to drink for water. Unfortunately for Ume, she is sentenced to death for the murder of Alphonse and executed.

Their book reviews and critical commentary appear regularly in some of the most widely-read publications in Japan, and their word is respected enough to noticeably affect the sales figures of the works they have reviewed. * AmbiguousGender: Purposefully invoked on Tamaki's part - they identify as an androgyne and present in a deliberately ambiguous fashion.

* BerserkButton: Being asked to remove their clothing in front of strangers, as revealed when a body check is initiated during the chapter 1 trial and when they are later asked to try on a potentially incriminating shirt during the chapter 5 trial.[[spoiler:Luckily, Tamaki is able to get out of having to strip in front of others both times, although their refusal to comply during the latter trial earns a few votes in their direction.]]

* CigaretteOfAnxiety: Has a noticeable fondness for menthol cigarettes and a tendency to reach for them when stressed out. [[spoiler:This actually screws them over during chapter eight when singe marks are found on Nicanor's shirt, proving that the culprit most likely carried a lighter and therefore had a smoking habit.]]
* ClearMyName: They have to do this in the [[spoiler:sixth]] trial after [[spoiler:Koharu tries to frame them by writing the first two letters of their name in Koyomi's blood. Koharu didn't pick Tamaki for any specific reason; she just chose them at random. Tamaki is, understandably, furious with Koharu and tells her they hope her execution makes torture instruments look like a kids' playground.]]

* [[EvenEvilHasStandards Even Insufferable Geniuses Have Standards]]: Tamaki was exasperated that everyone was feeling sorry for the first culprit and felt that this was misguided on the others' part. ''However'', Tamaki was initially under the impression that culprits would just be given lethal injections or something. Once Tamaki sees that Monobear tends to devise gruesome, ''personalized'' executions, even they decide that Monobear is, in their words, a "sick fuck."
* [[EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas Even Insufferable Geniuses Love Their Mamas]]: Tamaki definitely isn't the kindest person out there, but they are very close to their mothers, always speak highly of them, and worry about how they're faring while they're locked away in Tartarus, enough to [[spoiler:seriously contemplate acting on week 3's motive - a "party" with the successful murderer's loved ones]] and later [[spoiler:act on week 8's motive - a chance for whoever gets away with it to call the person of their choice. This aspect of Tamaki's life is used against them in their execution]].
