[[folder:Kagerou-Class]]

* HavingABlast: more so this than any other destroyer class. The story seems to be quite fond of having the Kagerou-Class be the fleet's resident artillery support destroyers, and they even carry undermounted grenade launchers with their assault rifles for that additional bit of explosive ordnance.
* SupportPartyMember: all Kagerou-Class members have access to offensive support abilities that either help themselves or allies directly or with special fire missions to assist with combat. Due to the nature of these class abilities, the Kagerou-Class as a whole can be considered [[CloseRangeCombatant Close Range Combatants]], with Amatsukaze being the most prominent example in-story.

!!Kagerou

* {{Charisma}}: Kagerou stands out, with a 9 in charisma.
* CloudCuckoolander: averted from fanworks; in this story, Kagerou behaves just like an ordinary teenage girl.
* CoolBigSis: possesses the Eldest of Kin passive ability that grants a small amount of additional combat bonuses to her sisters if she deploys with them into combat.
* DoNotRunWithAGun: creatively averted - Kagerou gets the idea of turning herself and her sisters in chapter 295 into mobile firing turrets by standing on top of a few friendly APC's and deploying their guns while on top of the vehicles so that the they can drive the destroyers around while the girls still provide artillery cover.
* FemaleGaze: gives one of these to Damon when he takes off his shirt at base to reveal his well-toned body honed from years of physical work.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: in chapter 313, Kagerou retaliates back at the enemy defenders of a water utility center who are attacking them with grenade launchers like undermounted M-203's and standalone M-32's with a 40mm high explosive of her own, killing one of those soldiers.
* JackOfAllStats: has 5's in all combat stats.
* {{Shoutout}}: she uses an MK-16 EGLM RCO for much of the story, a weapon found in [[VideoGame/DayZ DayZ Origins and other DayZ Arma 2 mods.]]
** [[spoiler:Her new ability through Damon's YRC is one to Firebreak's Heat Wave specialist ability in VideoGame/CallOfDutyBlackOps3.]]
* IJustShotMarvinInTheFace: almost does this in chapter 295, when Kasumi yells at her for nearly blowing the advancing fleet up with one of her shots onto a nearby bunker.
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:her name in English means "heat haze", and her YRC power is to be able to release a deadly heat wave from her body in a circular area of effect.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:when she tests out her YRC power for the first time, Kagerou, not knowing what it would exactly do, accidentally ends up giving Damon severe third-degree burns on his arms, and she's struck aghast at the effects.]]
* SoleSurvivor: [[spoiler:of her class at Greifswald Bay.]]
* WeaponOfChoice: the MK-16 SCAR-L EGLM RCO.
* WhatTheHellHero: gives one of these to Shiranui for the latter overreacting to her BerserkButton of being called Nui-chan by someone who isn't Kagerou.

!!Shiranui

* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:sinks at Greifswald Bay protecting Kagerou.]]
* BerserkButton: she ''hates'' being called "Nui-chan" or anything "Nui" related, because only Kagerou can call her that. Kagerou eventually has to explicitly take her to task over this overreaction.
* BloodKnight: absolutely remains one in this story as well.
* CloudCuckoolandersMinder: averted - Kagerou is the one who needs to rein her in at times.
* ConflictingLoyalty: she's one of the girls who have obvious conflicting interests between meeting the needs of her sisters and those of the fleet. Usually she chooses the former over the latter.
* DeadlyUpgrade: her Vengeance Protocol gives her incredible combat bonuses but penalizes her harshly if she stays in-protocol for longer than her body can allow.
* {{Determinator}}: as disagreeable and sociopathic as she is, Shiranui is truly stubborn in combat - she's battled Kongou in a one-on-one (even though she did eventually lose), tanked a whole bunch of 5-inch shells from enemy Abyssal light cruisers at Cayo Romano, and she's got a whopping 9 in endurance to reinforce this trait.
* DisproportionateRetribution: when the National Guard soldier in chapter 295 mistakenly looks up her skirt trying to talk to her, she threatens him with her 12.7cm cannon module.
* DumbMuscle: like Yuudachi, she qualifies with an intelligence rating of a mere 2 and seems to focus solely on the safeties and interests of her sisters, mainly Kagerou. The fact that she has 0's in both charisma and negotiation doesn't help at all.
* {{Foil}}: is this to Shigure. While Shigure doesn't at all like using her emotions to fuel her strength (or more specifically, she doesn't like using her protocol), Shiranui revels in it and doesn't ever think twice about using her own protocol.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:see BackFromTheDead above.]]
* IfIWantedYouDead: is implied to be capable of this, as indicated by Sanford when he talks to Damon about her.
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:her name in English refers to the mysterious lights seen at sea, and her YRC power is to be able to create those lights in the form of green phosphorescent orbs that act as explosive traps.]]
* MightyGlacier: compared to her sisters in her class. She has an 8 in defense and has the most amount of health at 1150 hit points, but she's only got a speed rating of 4.
* MoralMyopia: Shiranui doesn't care if she needs to put the needs of her sisters before those of the fleet, but when [[spoiler:Suzukaze]] acts similarly, she disapproves heavily.
* PleaseKillMeIfItSatisfiesYou: is given a gun to shoot Damon if she truly doesn't want him to drag a critically wounded Kagerou along with them into battle.
* RealityEnsues: despite her best efforts in [[spoiler:avenging the wounded Kagerou at the English Channel]] by facing off against Kongou, Shiranui just can't beat her since a mere destroyer can't hope to match a battleship's sheer strength.
* {{Shoutout}}: like Kagerou, she uses the MK-16 SCAR-L EGLM RCO, a weapon found in [[VideoGame/DayZ DayZ Origins and other DayZ Arma 2 mods.]]
** [[spoiler:Shiranui uses Iori's Ura 1018-Shiki Yashiori attack, in which she hurls a handful of explosive green energy orbs at her opponent, as seen in [[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters King Of Fighters 14.]]]]
* SuperMode: her Vengeance Protocol, but it can become a DeadlyUpgrade real quick if Shiranui isn't careful...which she isn't.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: in chapter 147, when an NDP soldier is already succumbing to a MultipleGunshotDeath, she blows him up with an M-203 HE grenade fired from her EGLM undermounted grenade launcher.
* ThirdPersonPerson: averted, Shiranui uses standard first person to refer to herself.
* WeaponOfChoice: the MK-16 SCAR-L EGLM RCO, just like Kagerou's.

!!Kuroshio

* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:sinks at Greifswald Bay.]]
* KansaiRegionalAccent: in this story, Kuroshio's Kansai ethnicity is even cemented as a passive ability called "Osaka Syndrome" that reduces ally fatigue gain rates by 20% within 25 meters.
* {{Shoutout}}: she uses the MK-16 SCAR-L Holo, a weapon found in [[VideoGame/DayZ DayZ Origins and other DayZ Arma 2 mods.]]
** [[spoiler:Her new ability through Damon's YRC is K`'s Blackout ability from VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters.]]
** in chapter 335, she shouts [[Film/{{Dodgeball}} "If you can dodge a shell, you can dodge a ball!"]] before getting bashed by a shell a moment later.
* WeaponOfChoice: the MK-16 SCAR-L Holo. With the exception of Amatsukaze, it appears that the Kagerou-Class seem to have made the SCAR-L family of weapons their signature rifles.
* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent: Kuroshio, who speaks with a Kansai regional accent ingame (and thus in this story as well), has a very odd accent when she speaks English because accents are extremely difficult to translate accurately from language to language. For sure, though, she speaks very informally.

!!Amatsukaze

* AccidentalPublicConfession: [[spoiler:after Kagerou accidentally burns Damon with her Heat Wave, Amatsukaze starts berating him because she doesn't want to see the one she loves get hurt. Oops.]]
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:sinks twice, first at Cayo Romano and second at Greifswald Bay.]]
* BulletCatch: saves Damon by catching a shotgun slug fired at him with her Ignition Glove.
* CastFromHitPoints: one of her attacks, Tenjou no Kasai, is an [[AwesomeButImpractical instant disintegration attack]] but requires Amatsukaze to sacrifice 300 hit points in order to use it due to how stressful on her body it is to be used, according to the stat sheet.
* CloseRangeCombatant: invokes this with her heavy reliance on her Ignition Glove and her fire-based melee attacks, her high speed, and excellent reflexes, and in just about every conflict, both on land and at sea, she's usually depicted assuming an aggressive front-line role for the fleet. It's even reinforced in her entry in the stat sheet, in which she has a passive ability that specifically gives her combat bonuses for staying close to the enemy in combat and rewards her for not getting hit while in the fray.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler:her death at Cayo Romano involves the Re-Class ripping out her badly damaged Atalantian Reactor right out of her chest, and that's not counting all the molten fuel that the reactor's been leaking into her chest in the meantime after being set on overdrive.]]
* DeflectorShields: gains one as a result of her Kai remodel.
* {{Determinator}}: best demonstrated during Operation Dualsight, when she sets her reactor on 175% overdrive [[DeadlyUpgrade that causes her reactor to begin bleeding burning fuel into her body]] and defeats numerous Abyssal cruisers. She even manages to deal a heavy blow onto the Re-Class before finally going down.
* DoNotCallMePaul: gets very angry at Damon for not only butchering her name but also lazily shortening her name to "Amy" for simplicity's sake. She never lives it down. [[spoiler:After Damon saves the fleet from Blackwood, Amatsukaze mentions that she won't mind too much if Damon calls her Amy henceforth...]]
* ElementalPunch: with her Ignition Glove. When she receives her Kai upgrade, she can extend this to her kicks as well.
* FashionableAsymmetry: like her ingame rendition, she has a single white glove on her right hand only, but it's no ordinary glove: called the Ignition Glove, it gives Amatsukaze a fiery edge to her physical attacks.
* FragileSpeedster: Even moreso than in the game. Her defense and armor point ratings are markedly lower than average compared to other destroyers, but in exchange, she has very high speed, agility, and reflex ratings and is equipped with a specialized internal reactor, called the Atalantian Reactor Mk. I, that gives her the speed that makes her the second fastest ship girl in the fleet, bar her own sister, Shimakaze.
* GlassCannon: ties in with FragileSpeedster. Not only is she the second fastest ship girl in the fleet, but she's also performed some of the story's most lethal attacks, such as Tenjou no Kasai and Shirohasu Senpuukyaku.
* ICallItVera: has this relationship with her turret buddy, whom she calls Rensouhou-kun, just like in the game. Except, in the context of this story, Rensouhou-kun can spot enemies, calculate ballistics information for Amatsukaze, and can even use her assault rifle to cover her in combat.
* IWillOnlySlowYouDown: Does this when she tries to get the others to leave her behind after taking crippling damage from [[spoiler:Shimakaze]] at Atlanta.
* NecessaryDrawback: while not explicitly mentioned at all in the story, the stat sheet gives her a "cost" rating of 4 when the vast majority of destroyers won't ever have cost ratings over 2 (it's more comparable to cruiser levels of resource consumption), so it's implied that for how strong of a destroyer she is, Amatsukaze typically consumes more food, steel, bauxite, and fuel than her peers. Also mentioned in the stat sheet is her level cap: while most other destroyers have max levels of anywhere between 90 to 120, Amatsukaze is capped at 75.
* PlayingWithFire: thanks to her Ignition Glove, a special glove that burns at will. [[spoiler:If she uses a navitasium cube, her Ignition Glove has up to two more tiers of strength.]]
* ShootTheBullet: more like kicking it...and not just a bullet, either. She pulls this off in chapter 149, when an NDP tank fires a 120mm round at her, and she jumps up and kicks it away.
* {{Shoutout}}: she seems to be fond of using a few of Ken Masters' attacks from VideoGame/StreetFighter, like the Shinryuken and Guren Senpuukyaku (renamed Shirohasu Senpuukyaku).
** [[spoiler:She gains a new ability through Damon's YRC called Illusion, the same one used by Fox in the VideoGame/SuperSmashBros series.]]
** she uses Sakazaki Ryo's Shin Tenchi Haou-Ken punch to defeat an enemy light cruiser in chapter 366.
* ThoseTwoGirls: with Shimakaze. While her relationship with her is known in the game, in this story, Amatsukaze and Shimakaze both view each other as sisters, especially before Damon acquires more Kagerou-Class destroyers for his fleet. And because they're the two fastest ship girls in the fleet, they're practically always sortieing together as a tag-team duo to break enemy lines for the rest of the fleet.
* {{Tsundere}}: shows signs of this when [[spoiler:she mentions after Damon saves the fleet from Blackwood that she no longer minds it too much if Damon keeps calling her Amy, something she always hated prior to this event.]]
* WeaponOfChoice: the [[http://hk-usa.com/hk-models/hk416/ H&K-416 assault rifle]] that she uses for much of the story.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Asashio-Class]]
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:with Damon's YRC, all Asashio-Class members so far gain access to protocols that they didn't have before.]]
* SupportPartyMember: the Asashio-Class members, like the Mutsuki-Class, have access to defensive support abilities that focus on keeping other allies alive, but some of their abilities also help their allies fight better against their enemies.

!!Asashio

* AnimalMotifs: her new [[spoiler:Cerberus Protocol]] portrays her as houndlike, just like the Shiratsuyu-Class, perhaps due to the ingame fanbase's comparisons of her unfailing loyalty to the Admiral to that of a dog.
* CoolBigSis: possesses the Eldest of Kin passive ability that grants small combat bonuses to her sisters in combat.
* {{Determinator}}: her Endurance rating is 9, with a Will rating of 70%. Asashio even has this trope as a passive ability that gives her major conditional endurance-related bonuses to reinforce this, ''and'' she maintains a unique status of being the only ship girl who can still sortie at 100% fatigue.
* IJustShotMarvinInTheFace: [[spoiler:Asashio accidentally ends up fatally shooting an innocent civilian man just trying to defend his home from Asashio when she breaks in in search of mercenary enemies to capture and interrogate. See below for more details.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: in chapter 313, [[spoiler:Asashio charges into a house in the suburbs in Midwest City during the second phase of Operation No Exit after being tipped off by Enterprise, who alerts whole fleet to signatures detected throughout the suburbs. A civilian man with a double-barreled shotgun comes out to defend his home when he hears Asashio breaking in through the living room window, and Asashio ends up shooting him in the stomach, fatally wounding him, and shortly after, the man's pregnant wife comes out after hearing the shot and begins to grieve for her dying husband. Asashio slowly realizes that she's just shot an innocent civilian instead of an enemy mercenary and, needless to say, reacts extremely poorly to the situation.]]
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: is always loyal to whoever is her designated Admiral, even to the Harper family during her time at Nashville, but she learns after joining the Combined Fleet that some people do not deserve to be obeyed. Nevertheless, this trait is cemented as a passive ability in her entry in the stat sheet that gives her combat bonuses for fighting with any commanding human of the fleet.
* OhCrap: this is her reaction in its purest form when she witnesses her sister Arashio [[spoiler:punch her other sister Kasumi through two houses and almost a third.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: naturally, as a result of the incident mentioned above, Asashio [[spoiler:becomes extremely depressed at her actions and tries to apologize to the wife of the civilian man she's shot on accident, but the woman rejects her apology and yells her into cowering silence.]]
* SeriousBusiness: whenever she talks, Asashio ''always'' means what she says, even through her Cerberus Protocol, even when she's asking for a cheek rub.
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:her new Cerberus Protocol visibly changes her appearance by making her hair longer and giving her doggie hair ears, but her new combat capabilities are yet to be explored.]]
* WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises: ties in with OhCrap, as the narration explicitly describes her reaction to [[spoiler:Arashio punching Kasumi]] in this manner.

!!Arashio

* AccidentalMurder: [[spoiler: in chapter 313, when she punches Kasumi so hard that she goes through several houses, at the third and last house, Kasumi ends up slamming into a mercenary through a window so hard that his head gets impaled against a doorknob. Ouch.]]
* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:Arashio loses both of her arms that get shot off when she gets hit by fifteen cruiser shells in chapter 335.]]
* AnIcePerson: [[spoiler:with her newly acquired Storm Protocol, she can fire special ice shells from her cannons that, instead of exploding on contact against an opponent, will pierce Abyssal armor. She's also able to use her Ice Storm attack because of it as well.]]
* BlowYouAway: [[spoiler:gains wind powers thanks to her Storm Protocol.]]
* BreakTheCutie: possesses the Scarred passive debuff [[spoiler:due to her status as a "victim" ship girl of Nashville.]]
** ThePowerOfLove: but the debuffs she suffers because of this can be negated if she deploys with at least one ship sister into combat.
* DefiantToTheEnd: in chapter 335, Arashio realizes too late that her tunnel-visioning on a wounded Ta-Class battleship to finish her off has caused her to break off away from her comrades and dive too deep into Abyssal waters, causing her to get surrounded. She decides to go after her original target anyway and successfully snipes both the Ta-Class and an accompanying Ru-Class battleship and tries her best to resist the overwhelming force of Abyssals before going down.
* MegatonPunch: perhaps the ''strongest'' (or at least the rawest) such punch seen in the whole story, [[spoiler:Arashio punches Kasumi so hard that the latter is sent through a grand total of six layers of house walling before an unfortunate enemy mercenary helps stop her by cushioning her against a door that's behind him - and Kasumi pays him back by accidentally stabbing his head against the doorknob so hard that it impales his brain.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler:in chapter 313, Arashio shatters her own personality by punching Kasumi through two houses and almost a third.]]
* RageBreakingPoint: Arashio has always been portrayed as a somewhat more tragic but otherwise true-to-canon ship girl in the story (but again, like many other minor characters in the story, this may simply be because the narration hasn't been able to flesh out her character as much as others), but what Kasumi said in chapter 313 [[spoiler:clearly makes her pissed off enough to send her own ship sister flying through a couple of houses.]]
* ShockAndAwe: [[spoiler:demonstrates a small capacity for electricity with her Storm Protocol, but given its description in chapter 335, it doesn't seem like this is Arashio's forte.]]
* {{Shoutout}}: given her name and her [[spoiler:new Storm Protocol, she's most likely giving one to Storm of the Franchise/MarvelUniverse.]]
** [[spoiler:indeed, in chapter 335, she uses Storm's Ice Storm super from VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3, albeit probably a smaller version of it.]]
* TranquilFury: [[spoiler:perhaps turned UpToEleven, even. After making Kasumi blast off, she begins to apologize to the wife when New Jersey comes in to investigate the great crashing noises in the house that they are in.]]
* {{Troll}}: does this to Kasumi at the end of chapter 295, when she takes a picture with her eyes of Kasumi half-heartedly making a Banzai cheer with Asashio and saves it to her hard drive. Kasumi isn't very pleased.

!!Kasumi

* DashAttack: performs one in chapter 367, attacking a Ri-Class heavy cruiser with a bit of a FlashStep maneuver that doesn't take her very far, but it allows her to cause the Ri-Class to explode in white haze and severely disables her, allowing Kasumi to finish her off.
* EveryoneHasStandards: even Kasumi can't stand Akebono's constant antipathy towards Damon, as demonstrated in chapter 280.
* GameOfChicken: in chapter 313, an enemy Humvee driver operates his vehicle to run Kasumi over in the water utility plant. Kasumi, being a ship girl, doesn't back down, and the mercenary, not knowing just what Kasumi is, charges at her anyway. [[CaptainObvious You should already know how this one ends.]]
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:gets stabbed by a Ne-Class's claws in chapter 367 that severs her spine, but luckily for her, Harusame and Umikaze are nearby, whom Asashio calls to administer rapid healing to Kasumi to get her back into the fight.]]
* ImprovisedWeapon: in chapter 335, Kasumi tears off one of the lower teeth of a Ho-Class cruiser and uses it to slash it nearly to death. Since it seems like Smartsteel blades can harm Smartsteel armor, why not take it from your enemy?
* {{Jerkass}}: just like Akebono, Kasumi stays true to her ingame rendition and is quite hostile towards Damon, but since Akebono seems to be given more of the spotlight throughout the story, Kasumi's behavior tends to get overshadowed by Akebono's.
* MegatonPunch: in above-mentioned GameOfChicken with the enemy Humvee, she sends the Humvee flying fifty meters backwards and causes it to land upside down on the ground.
* SadisticChoice: [[spoiler:Kasumi puts the wife of the innocent civilian man whom Asashio has accidentally shot at gunpoint and gives her this - except the one that Kasumi gives only has one choice.]]
* SeenItAll: this is part of her argument with the wife of the civilian man [[spoiler:whom Asashio shoots on accident in chapter 313. Kasumi argues with her that if she's trying to essentially guilt-trip them over her dying husband, it won't work, because Kasumi and her sisters have seen all that war has to offer and thus have lost more than the woman ever will.]]
--> Kasumi: [[spoiler:"We've lost more friends and comrades than you have friends, period! You think we need to care about you losing your husband?!"]]
* {{Shoutout}}: when the story narration is describing the moments just before the GameOfChicken that Kasumi has with the enemy Humvee, it explicitly calls her [[VideoGame/{{Doom}} "a goddamn destroyer and a half."]]
* SirSwearsALot: just like Akebono, she too has the Shitmouth passive ability that gives her trivial combat bonuses at the penalty of a double fatigue gain rate and small insanity gain rate when deployed with Damon.
* {{Tsundere}}: is this to her sisters, and probably one to Damon, as of the later chapters, anyway.

!!Naganami

* DeadlyGas: in chapter 378, she and her squadron are defeated by a surge of Inner Circle reinforcements [[spoiler:who then subject them to Nova Gas, a specifically manufactured biological weapon intended to attack ship girls because the gas targets their Smartsteel cells.]]
* {{Fangirl}}: averted, she has made no such mention of Tanaka Raizou, her warship-era captain, throughout the story, not even in her Fleet Log.
* HotBlooded: subverted, she's not nearly as hot-blooded as she is ingame, though she has no problem making friends with Shimakaze (who herself is more level-headed in this story too). Though, not having any of her ship sisters around in the fleet to hang out with might have something to do with this.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: specifically, I Just Want To Have My Sisters. At the time of her introduction to the fleet, Naganami is the only one of the Yuugumo-Class to be present, [[spoiler:and it takes over a hundred and fifty chapters for the next Yuugumo-Class, Asashimo, to come along.]] Naturally, Naganami is upset by this and feels isolated, but luckily Shimakaze was there to befriend her in her sisters' places.
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:her YRC power allows her to hurl waves of black and pink energy from her left and right arms, respectively. Naganami's name in English literally means "long waves".]]
* {{Shoutout}}: [[spoiler:her YRC power is called the [[Anime/SpaceBattleshipYamato2199 Wave Motion Guns.]]
* TearsOfBlood: one of the results of being exposed to [[spoiler:Nova Gas.]]

!!Asashimo

* BoomHeadshot: her kills with her hidden wristwatch blade have to be this, or otherwise hit vital areas on her enemies.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:she somehow fell into the possession of the Typewriters, a local Inner Chicago gang with a vendetta against New Chicago and its people, and was conducting burglaries on various gun shops like the Full Metal Jacket that Damon is a frequent patron of before she got captured.]]
* InvisibilityCloak: [[spoiler:downplayed. The new hood on her uniform lets her erase her own presence from outlying electronic detection measures, but she herself is still perfectly visible.]]
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:her YRC power allows her to fire off blasts of frost from her hands. Asashimo's name in English literally means "morning frost".]]
* PreMortemOneLiner: also a Shout-out to Franchise/AssassinsCreed: "Rest in peace, bitch."
* {{Shoutout}}: to VideoGame/AssassinsCreed during her introduction to the story, as she appears wearing a hooded cape and wields an under-wrist blade capable of piercing Smartsteel armor, as Yuudachi finds out the hard way. [[spoiler:And for Operation 300, she receives a hood on her uniform that probably makes her look like an Assassin and keeps her underwrist blade.]]
** and in chapter 301, she actually does fight like an Assassin.
** [[spoiler:her YRC power is called [[VideoGame/CallOfDutyBlackOps the Winter's Howl]].]]
* TheSneakyGuy: chapter 300 reveals that [[spoiler:Asashimo gets a special hood sewn onto her uniform that removes her presence from radar and other electronic peripherals.]]
* TearsOfBlood: one of the results of being exposed to [[spoiler:Nova Gas.]]

!!Shimakaze

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: highly in contrast to both her ingame and anime renditions, she's much less of a BoisterousBruiser and a {{Cloudcuckoolander}} and, like Murasame, takes her role in the fleet quite seriously, especially because she's the fastest ship girl in the fleet and she knows it. In contrast to other Kantai Collection works and fanworks, in this story, she's much less of a {{Jerkass}} as well, able to befriend Naganami when the latter joins the fleet and make her feel at home in the fleet when Naganami has no sister of her own from the Yuugumo-Class with her at the moment.
* AttackDrone: what her Rensouhou-chan turret buddies are, just like in the anime. However, in the story, because they're like miniature mobile firing platforms, Shimakaze can get very creative with how she sets up artillery strikes with them, including throwing them all up into the air and performing a DeathFromAbove with cannon shells. In addition, unlike Amatsukaze, Shimakaze possesses a gearbox, but it's completely nonfunctional in terms of combat capability and is strictly used to carry her turrets around on her back.
* CloseRangeCombatant: is this even more so than Amatsukaze. Basically, whatever Amatsukaze can do, Shimakaze can (technically) do better, minus the fire attacks that Amatsukaze can pull off.
* EyeScream: loses her eyesight in chapter 382 when a Ne-Class catches her off-guard and claws her face, hitting her eyes in the process and destroying them.
* FragileSpeedster: practically the embodiment of this in the fleet. Unlike her ingame rendition, according to the stat sheet, she's got lower than average hit points, almost nonexistent armor points, and a [[GlassCannon miserable defense rating]]. However, when normally the max rating for any category is 9, Shimakaze has a 15 in speed and a 10 in endurance, with maxed-out ratings in agility and reflexes. She even has a unique, specialized reactor that's been built just for her, an upgraded and more efficient version of Amatsukaze's Atalantian Reactor, called the Atalantian Reactor Mk. II, that gives her the speed that she's known for.
* GlassCannon: just like her sister and ties in with FragileSpeedster. When they first meet, [[spoiler:she defeats Amatsukaze by subjecting her to a case of ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice by thrusting her arm through her chest, crippling her.]]
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: seemingly averted in this story compared to the 4koma and other fanworks. While it is true that Shimakaze usually only hangs out with Amatsukaze most of the time and almost exclusively fights with her in battle, she doesn't seem to show any difficulty in interacting with others. She also has a special friendship with Naganami, most likely due to their historic relationship.
* NecessaryDrawback: while not explicitly mentioned at all in the story, the stat sheet gives her a "cost" rating of 4 when the vast majority of destroyers won't ever have cost ratings over 2 (it's more comparable to cruiser levels of resource consumption), so it's implied that for how strong of a destroyer she is, Shimakaze, like Amatsukaze, typically consumes more food, steel, bauxite, and fuel than her peers. And also just like Amatsukaze, according to the stat sheet, Shimakaze has a much lower than average level cap, even lower than Amatsukaze at 50.
* {{Shoutout}}: her Chiron Step attack is the Hero Skill of Achilles in VideoGame/EiyuuSenkiTheWorldConquest.
* ThoseTwoGirls: with Amatsukaze. While her relationship with her is known in the game, in this story, Shimakaze and Amatsukaze both view each other as sisters. Shimakaze even cements this by affectionately calling Amatsukaze "Amatsu-nee". And because they're the two fastest ship girls in the fleet, they're practically always sortieing together as a tag-team duo to break enemy lines for the rest of the fleet.
* WeaponOfChoice: to fit her role as a CloseRangeCombatant, shows an apparent affinity for combat shotguns, such as the [[http://world.guns.ru/shotgun/usa/atchisson-aa-12-e.html AA-12 automatic shotgun]] or the [[http://www.keltecweapons.com/our-guns/pistol/ksg Kel-Tec KSG-12 pump action.]]

!WARNING!

!Unavoidable {{Walking Spoiler}}s past this point!

* TheAce: more or less the entire class - even the general consensus among the ship girls recognizes the Shiratsuyu-Class as the single most powerful destroyer class in the fleet, mostly on the account of their strong protocols. Their stats also help reflect this, as most of the Shiratsuyu-Class start with great stats and abilities (mostly tied to their protocols), and with the introduction of [[spoiler:Damon's YRC powers]], those who haven't yet discovered their protocols receive them.
* AbsurdlyHighLevelCap: after the [[spoiler:truth about the Shiratsuyu-Class is revealed,]] the author revised the Shiratsuyu-Class's maximum level caps to be [[spoiler:999]] - the only other character in the story to have such a high level cap is Damon, and the next highest is only 400. [[spoiler:Justified because the second-generation Shiratsuyu-Class were intended to be born as demi-gods.]]
* AnimalMotifs: as indicated by the nature of their class abilities, the Shiratsuyu-Class are largely portrayed as hound-like in their combat styles.
* AscendedExtra: [[spoiler:beginning with the Suzukaze's Voyage mini-arc and beyond, the story focuses steadily more and more heavily on the Shiratsuyu-Class, revealing them to be more and more importance to the backstory and events that transpired before the story's current timeline with subsequent chapters. See CreatorsFavorite in the Trivia section.]]
* BigScrewedUpFamily: just going down the list...
** Shiratsuyu is an [[spoiler:[[ShockAndAwe electric, plasma sword-swinging, particle accelerator-firing]]]] CoolBigSis who's tried to go ''back'' to the Coalition faction that's oppressed her because she thought it was the only thing she could have done for [[spoiler:Murasame]]. ** Shigure is a SurvivorsGuilt-ridden ReluctantPsycho who [[spoiler:[[BloodyMurder uses blood, tendrils made of blood, and flames made of blood]]]] and [[MindOverMatter telekinesis]] to annihilate anyone she feels like killing.

** Yamakaze is an [[spoiler:abused BrokenBird who's also been DrivenToMadness after being exposed to the [[AwfulTruth truth about the Shiratsuyu-Class]] and her [[GoMadFromTheIsolation nineteen-year period of complete isolation being stuck inside her own shipping crate]], capable of [[BlowYouAway generating powerful windstorms that could make tanks fly.]]]]
** Kawakaze is a PyroManiac [[spoiler:who can also fly]].
** Suzukaze is a [[spoiler:[[DropTheHammer gravity hammer-swinging]]]] [[spoiler:mass-murdering OneWingedAngel]] who can [[spoiler:[[LudicrousGibs vaporize human beings by ripping apart the water molecules in their bodies]]]].
* ClingyJealousGirl: They show signs of this, such as in chapter 322 where Murasame, Yuudachi and Umikaze get upset when seeing Damon talk to Kumano. This prompts Damon to drop a {{Yandere}} joke.
* CloseRangeCombatant: their class-exclusive abilities intend for them to get into the thick of the fight or at least assume very forward positions in the fleet or in battle, just like their protocols.
* GenerationXerox: [[spoiler:Both generations of Shiratsuyu-class were programmed to be more affectionate with their admiral than any of the other girls. [[FridgeLogic Given the universal canine motif that the Shiratsuyu-Class is given ingame, in fanworks, and in this story alike,]] this comes as little surprise.]]
* GlassCannon: perhaps the most standout example of all destroyer classes. Their protocols give them powers and strengths that can't be matched by any other power, not even by the powers given to other ship girls through [[spoiler:Damon's YRC]]. For comparison's sake, the only power that can compete with the Shiratsuyu-Class's powers is the Yamato Cannon, and that's a ''battleship-specific'' ship weapon. However, they still are limited to destroyer-tier health and armor pools.
* GlowingEyes: most of the girls' eyes, particularly the aggressive ones, burn with colored hazes that match their protocol colors whenever they use their protocols under heavy emotional influence.
* GroupHug: the entire class all hug it out with Yamakaze in the center in chapter 299.
* HiddenDepths: ''Oh boy.'' [[spoiler:Sanford explains the truth of the Shiratsuyu-Class in chapter 293: there were indeed two classes of Shiratsuyu-Class, the first generation and the second generation. The first class all used to be human teenage girls between the ages of 15 to 18, who were either acquired from orphanages or kidnapped from their homes around the world due to their incredibly high latent magic potentials. The Moebius team then replaced their limbs with serenity-filled Smartsteel limbs that circulated viruses containing Smartsteel DNA in their bodies to turn their bodies into Smartsteel as well, except for the brain, due to its organic complexity. This means that the first generation started out as human but were forced to become ship girls for the sake of ensuring the success of the rest of the F.L.E.E.T. Project. Once their roles were fulfilled, they were put through a final phase of their program that intended to create a sub-species of humans with enough power to be labelled as demi-gods, and they were the second-generation Shiratsuyu-Class. Their insane protocols, skills, abilities, and capabilities as ship girls are attributed to their natures as hybrid organic and artificial beings, the combination of technology based on magic and the laws of natural life, essentially drawing the good parts of both without the disadvantages of either. Now, their status as ship girls is revealed to be nothing more than a labeling disguise, as technically they are not actually ship girls and simply have the skills of them.]]
* InSeriesNickname: in chapter 255, Damon decides to give the entire Shiratsuyu-Class English nicknames, as Shiratsuyu and Shigure have.
* MagicFromTechnology: [[spoiler:nowhere else is this more apparent than the Shiratsuyu-Class, whose protocols and the powers they can use because of them are all considered magic powers/abilities borne from magic-laced technology.]]
* MeaningfulName: from Shiratsuyu to Samidare, the girls are named after different kinds of rain (Shiratsuyu's name means White Dew, so she's an exception), and from Umikaze to Suzukaze, the girls are named after different kinds of winds. While references to rain and wind are made in the game by the girls, they explicitly mention that they all love rain/wind in the story. [[spoiler:So imagine their disappointment when Damon tells them that he personally hates the rain.]]
* PaintingTheMedium: [[spoiler:Samidare, Suzukaze, and now Shigure in chapter 372 have all spoken with Zalgo fonted dialogue whenever they are under the influence of their demon angel forms, or at least under some form of emotional disturbance.]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: As [[spoiler:!Samidare]] explains in chapter 313, ''all'' of them, not just [[spoiler:Suzukaze]] have city-wrecking potential; the spoiler-marked character was just the first and least stable one to unlock it.
* SemiDivine: [[spoiler:what the second-generation is truly meant to be. Given what Samidare and Suzukaze had become in Houston, this may explain their angelic transformations.]]
* {{Shoutout}}: Multiple girls from this class, when they trigger their protocols, emit revolving swirls of inky energy, much like the splash effect graphics frequently seen in VideoGame/StreetFighterV.
** their new set of firearms assigned to them as of chapter 285-286 all have weapon skins taken from [[VideoGame/{{Counterstrike}} Counter-Strike: GO.]]
** The Shiratsuyu-Class decide to flip-flop their uniforms and hairstyles in chapter 346, [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/pools/12221 as such.]]
* SuperMode: those of the Shiratsuyu-Class who possess aggressive, combat-oriented protocols have this, as they gain stat buffs to themselves (and sometimes their allies) if they enter their protocol states.
* ThemeNaming: in a different sense from their names: from Samidare onward, the ship girls' protocols all end in "water".
* TookALevelInBadass: ''the'' most prominent example of any single ship girl class in the story.

!Shiratsuyu

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: Perhaps heavily due to her ordeal as a captured ship girl of Charlotte, she's nowhere near the level of GenkiGirl or AttentionWhore that she is in the game. Her CharacterTic of always wanting to be first is heavily subdued, though a degree of it still stubbornly remains, as she demonstrates when she becomes the first ship girl who willingly accepts a nickname from Damon, Shirley.
* AbnormalAmmo: uses empty bullet casings as ammunition for her [[spoiler:particle accelerator shots.]]
* AffectionateNickname: Damon starts calling her Shirley since her original name is a bit confusing for him to pronounce regularly, and Shiratsuyu greatly appreciates this for the reason stated above.
* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:when Shiratsuyu's sword explodes in her hand, the narration compares Shiratsuyu's hand and arm afterwards to a piece of electrical wire whose end is burst open, with insulation and wiring flopping everywhere.]]
* ArmchairMilitary: Has tendencies of this that start creeping up with chapter 189, which imply that Shiratsuyu is able to verbally control and direct the actions of the rest of her sisters at crucial moments. This is reinforced in later chapters and events, such as [[spoiler:the Shiratsuyu-Class's fight against !Samidare and their undepicted one against President Blackwood, and finally cemented with the development of her Alpha Protocol.]]
* BadassNormal: along with the recently acquired Harusame, she is one of the only ones in her class who doesn't have an obviously powerful protocol; whether or not she even has one is yet to be revealed, though with the recent revelation that she can in fact give commands to her own sisters and have them obey her, she may have a protocol after all. Even still, if this is the extent of her protocol's power, Shiratsuyu is certainly quite normal compared to the rest of her sisters.
** [[spoiler:While Shiratsuyu gains the power of homing electricity via her Alpha Protocol, it's certainly still about a few notches down from the wild powers that, say, Shigure and Yuudachi have received from Damon.]]
* BigScrewedUpFamily: she's the oldest of a class of destroyers who have a couple of screws loose, to say the least. If someone like Yuudachi is supposed to fulfill the OnlySaneMan trope among them, [[ThisIsGonnaSuck that doesn't bode well for the class as a whole.]] Though, this being said, in the latter third of the story so far, Shiratsuyu herself is trying her best to keep them on the right track.
* BigShutUp: gives one to the rest of her sisters in chapter 189 to rein them in, when the Shiratsuyu-Class are arguing about whether they should go after Damon or Suzukaze first.
* BreakTheCutie: nearly suffers this during her ordeal at Charlotte.
* CoolBigSis: possesses the Eldest of Kin passive ability that all lead ship girls of their respective classes seem to have that grants their sisters small combat attribute buffs when they deploy with their sisters into combat.
* DefiantToTheEnd: [[spoiler:to !Samidare, complete with a ClusterFBomb.]]
* DespairEventHorizon: her time in Charlotte, as explained in her Fleet Log in chapter 132. She takes it pretty hard that she couldn't do anything to alleviate Murasame's situation or otherwise get her out of her situation, amplified by the fact that Shiratsuyu is the eldest sister and thus shoulders the responsibility for the safety of her sister.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Shiratsuyu admits in her Fleet Log that in comparison to her horrible time in Charlotte, she doesn't care what kind of Admiral she ends up with, so long as he/she is compassionate and at least has the well-being of the fleet in mind.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:shortly after she and !Samidare engage in a plasma sword fight, !Samidare proves that hers is much stronger by cleaving Shiratsuyu's in half and causing it to undergo a catastrophic failure and explode right in Shiratsuyu's hand, maiming it and the rest of her right arm.]]
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:gets stabbed through the chest and abdomen by !Samidare's plasma sword.]]
* InSeriesNickname: Shirley; Damon gives this to her just before the start of Operation Charlotte, and she's the first one to get such a nickname from him.
* LoveConfession: gives one to [[spoiler:Damon]] in chapter 306.
* MeaningfulName: her Alpha Protocol, because not only is she the eldest and the first of the Shiratsuyu-Class, but she can give orders to the rest of her sisters that they feel compelled to obey.
** [[spoiler:her name, Shiratsuyu, means "White Dew" in English. Her Alpha Protocol, with Damon's YRC help, enables her to use electricity-based powers that generate white streaks of lightning - and [[NonIndicativeName definitely has nothing to do with dew.]]]]
* NoOneGetsLeftBehind: the motivation for Shiratsuyu to want to return to Charlotte, because Murasame is still back in the faction as Charlotte's prisoner ship girl. As it turns out, there's a very good reason for this.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: ties in with the above. Even though she returned to normal for the most part once she was rescued from Charlotte, Shiratsuyu still shocks the whole fleet by scolding her own sisters (minus Samidare and Shigure) hard in front of everyone.
* RageBreakingPoint: see OOCIsSeriousBusiness above.
* PointOfNoReturn: Operation Norfolk was about to be this, as explicitly mentioned in her Fleet Log. She'd gotten to the point where she would readily trade her own freedom, out of the clutches of the Charlotte faction and its premier, in order to return and ensure that nothing worse can be done to Murasame.
* ShockAndAwe: [[spoiler:Damon's YRC now gives Shiratsuyu a lightning-based power that charges her body with visible currents of white electricity and grants her immense speed, though Damon and others speculate it's just incredibly increased acceleration from what little they've seen of it.]]
** in chapter 264, Shiratsuyu finally acquires her own protocol like the rest of her sisters, called Alpha Protocol, which is responsible for [[spoiler:her newfound power to manipulate static potential in her enemies so that the electricity she now produces will always track them and electrocute them so long as they are within physical range of her.]]
* {{Shoutout}}:
** with her electricity, Shiratsuyu [[spoiler:can make herself a [[VideoGame/{{Halo}} Covenant Energy Sword made of white plasma.]]]]
** as of chapter 285, her new rifle, an M-4 Carbine, has the [[VideoGame/{{Counterstrike}} Cyrex]] weapon skin to match her uniform.
** [[spoiler:in chapter 291, she uses small version of [[Manga/ACertainScientificRailgun Misaka's Railgun attack]] using bullet casings instead of coins as a medium of deployment.]]
* TakeMeInstead: Shiratsuyu reveals in her Fleet Log that at one point, she confronted Badeau and asked to take Murasame's place, but got laughed off.
* ThisCannotBe: her initial reaction to her reactivation at the hands of the Charlotte faction forces and upon learning what has happened to the world over the past twenty years.
* WeaponOfChoice: wields the Modern Sub Machine Carbine, or the [[http://world.guns.ru/smg/india/msmc-e.html MSMC]], for much of the story.

!Shigure

* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:loses her right arm to a plasma grenade that !Samidare sticks her with in chapter 292.]]
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: gets one from Damon in chapter 56, to her chagrin.
* AffectionateNickname: Sugar. She only wants to be called this by Damon when they're alone. But as of chapter 255, it's not exactly secret anymore.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:killed in action by the Re-Class during Operation Dualsight.]]
* BackpackCannon: averted - Shigure departs from her canon equipment setup and uses dual-wielding arm cannons that's standard in the story.
* BerserkButton: Being called Guncannon, but a more serious one is if someone [[BigBrotherInstinct insults or hurts (or tries to hurt) her sisters.]] As chapter 30 demonstrates, this is in context of her words just moments earlier, when she proclaims herself a ReluctantWarrior who doesn't want to kill...[[LudicrousGibs and then proceeds to murder all the soldiers attacking her and her sisters with Yuudachi's help.]]
** [[spoiler:Fusou and Enterprise discuss the possibility that another one of Shigure's [[BerserkButton Berserk Buttons]] is being in a situation that even remotely resembles the Battle of Surigao Strait for her - and with Operation South Town being a small squadron of ship girls venturing into unknown and potentially hostile waters in Australia where they fight much larger and overwhelming numbers of Abyssals, it's argued that Shigure potentially sees this as a close enough version of Surigao Strait.]]
* BestFriend: with Yuudachi, naturally. Her Fleet Log goes in depth into how the two of them first become a duo, about how Yuudachi, despite not having a historical reason to befriend Shigure other than their sistership in the same destroyer class, still spent lots of time with her and became her friend and eventually warmed Shigure up to her new life as a ship girl.
* {{BFG}}: in chapter 285, she and Yuudachi get assigned specially modified AR-15's capable of firing .50-caliber Beowulf cartridges - the only other ship girls to use fifty-caliber weapons are ''carriers''.
* BloodIsTheNewBlack: [[spoiler:she's seen with blood flooding down all around her scalp and head because !Samidare's overhead hammerhead swing has just caved in part of her head and broke her skull.]]
** [[spoiler:she's seen like this again at the end of chapter 372, covered from head to toe in blood, most of which is from the Abyssals she's killed to cover her squadron, but also some of her own as well.]]
* BloodKnight: one of the most literal ones in the fleet thanks to her protocol, albeit not always a willing one.
** [[spoiler:but as the story progresses, especially the events that transpire in chapter 372, Shigure goes from an unwilling BloodKnight to a determined and bloodthirsty one.]]
* {{Bokukko}}: subverted; since the story is written in English, there's naturally no mention of this, but there's no reason why she can't talk like this when speaking in Japanese.
* BoomHeadshot: in chapter 372, Shigure doles these out in two forms: she charges her ammunition with Guilt energy, turning them into deadly bullets that can pierce through Abyssal Smartsteel like normal bullets against human flesh, and she also grabs Abyssals by their faces and blasts them with powerful bursts of Guilt energy that destroy their main processing units from the inside out with telekinesis. At the end of the chapter, in her transformed state, Shigure executes one Abyssal by using her telekinesis to pop her head like a balloon.
* BornLucky: in the general scope of the story, is actually this. She, along with Yuudachi, gets found by Damon and the fleet relatively early on in the story, has a strong protocol that's both versatile in all situations and is default to her skillset, and grows to become one of the strongest destroyers in the fleet. Compared to other ship girls, she's drawn another set of good cards for this second life as a ship girl.
* BrokenBird: at first seemed to be this, not necessarily because of her commonly portrayed trauma from Surigao Strait, but because of her initial inability to cope with her possession of her Guilt Protocol and the horrible things she has done and can do to people. But as time goes on, she quickly gets over her difficulty with her powers and uses them to fight more effectively.
* BulletCatch: taken UpToEleven in chapter 99 when she catches a 16-inch shell fired at her by Armored Carrier Demon and crushes it.
* CaughtWithYourPantsDown: [[spoiler:it's heavily implied in chapter 255 that Shigure has been in Damon's room using one of Damon's shirts to get herself off while Damon and part of the fleet are off at Cosco doing some shopping. Damon catches her red-handed when he goes up to his room to switch shirts and finds her trying to hide in his closet, with clear evidence that she's been quite...active.]]
* ChargedAttack: Shigure demonstrates one such attack of her own in chapter 372: [[spoiler:channeling her Guilt Protocol, she infuses her cannon rounds with Guilt power that, with enough time, turn them into battleship-caliber rounds that not only instantly kill the targets they hit, but any other Abyssal within their lethal blast ranges get killed immediately, not because of the explosive power itself, but because Shigure's telekinetic powers are transferred into the shots and rip apart all the enemies within their reach.]]
* CombatTentacles: in her Kai form, Shigure now has access to Blood Tendrils, tentacles made of pure Guilt Protocol energy that she can use to defend both herself and allies and seem to be somewhat sentient, as the narration seems to imply that they are capable of defending their hosts automatically from incoming attacks.
* CryIntoChest: does this to Damon, though it's more [[CryIntoChest Cry Into Arm]] when she does it.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler:when she is defeated and killed by the Re-Class in chapter 101, the Re-Class's tail bites into her body's midsection so hard that it tears her body into thirds, munching on the middle third of her body as the others sink immediately.]]
* CursedWithAwesome: Her Guilt Protocol, when activated, gives her telekinetic abilities, lethal aggression in combat, and strong support abilities to aid her sisters. However, she makes it clear from very early in the story that she would much prefer not having a terrifying power like this...[[spoiler:though she is in the process of slowly accepting it as necessary, particularly against the stronger Abyssals like the Re-Class.]]
* TheCynic: she tends to have very, very dark thoughts and opinions on the topic of the ship girls' transitions into their new lives from their former ones as warships. She's also particularly angry with the project as a whole for taking her bad memories and opinions of the war and weaponizing them into a power that turns her even more into a monster that she never wanted to become.
* DeathEqualsRedemption: [[spoiler:her Fleet Log reveals that Shigure doesn't feel bad at all when she sank at Cayo Romano, to the point where she was almost relieved that she died, since this breaks her usual wartime curse of always managing to survive almost all of the conflicts she was pitched in. Damon's recent death also hangs heavy in her mind in regards to this.]]
** [[spoiler:a second case is implied at the end of chapter 372: Shigure erects a wall of bloody flames that divide the sea in an arc and cuts her off from the rest of her squadron to keep the Abyssals with her on her side of the fire. She also sends a final voice message to Fusou apologizing and asking her to pass a few last words along to her sisters before closing comms completely.]]
* DeflectorShields: gains one in the form of her Kai shield after receiving her Kai upgrade.
* {{Determinator}}: while her endurance rating isn't so great, her Will is at a staggering 90%.
** [[spoiler:when Suzukaze turns rampant again in chapter 312, she is among the four Shiratsuyu-Class destroyers who manage to [[VisualPun stand up]] to Suzukaze to challenge her and swear their lives to protect Damon when she targets him to take responsibility for Samidare's death. However, as it turns out, that's as far as they can go.]]
* ElementalEyeColors: bloody red to match her [[spoiler:bloody red flames.]]
* EvilMakesYouMonstrous: an Abyssal calls Shigure a "fiend" [[spoiler:just before Angel Shigure brutally murders her with her Blood Tendrils.]]
* ExoticEyeDesigns: [[spoiler:when she powers herself up using Damon's energy she received via intercourse a few chapters earlier, Shigure, too, sports radiation hazard symbols in her eyes, until she uses up all that energy.]]
** [[spoiler:and in chapter 372, when she begins to succumb to her protocol's power, Shigure's eyes sport tiny red Terminator-like dots that leave behind light vectors with her movement and the two-pronged gears that circle around the centers of her eyes.]]
* FacePalmOfDoom: does this to [[spoiler:!Samidare, in order to execute her Raging Demon onto her.]]
* {{Fingore}}: does this to Armored Carrier Demon's Abyssal hands with her Guilt Protocol.
* {{Foil}}: to her sister Yuudachi. Both in-protocol and out, Shigure is a quieter, more pensive, introverted, and brooding girl who has lots of trouble coping with her feelings about being a ReluctantWarrior SuperSoldier with a SuperPoweredEvilSide.
** also one to Shiranui because Shigure doesn't want to deal with her own extremely negative emotions while Shiranui is the exact opposite.
* TheGlomp: gives one to Yuudachi while they're eating ice cream in chapter 277. [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/2503316 Here's a reference.]]
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: special mention goes to Shigure, whose eyes [[spoiler:begin to glow like the Terminator's at the end of chapter 372.]]
* HarbingerOfImpendingDoom: spends quite a bit of her Fleet Log in chapter 109 lamenting this part of her identity and talking about how much she hates knowing that she's seen many of her comrades die.
* HiddenEvil: not Shigure herself, but [[spoiler:her Guilt Protocol. In her fleet log, much like Ayanami and her own Nightmare Protocol, she sees it as a sentient parasite that's actually growing on its own, following its own will. It hasn't done anything drastic on its own, so Shigure doesn't know if her own protocol's perceived sentience is supposed to be an entirely bad thing. This is why Shigure does want to master her control over her protocol, despite her initial opinions against it, since she doesn't know if it'll evolve into something truly sinister in the future.]]
* HolyHalo: [[spoiler:finally gains one of her own at the end of chapter 372 - but like Suzukaze's, it's anything but holy.]]
* {{Homage}}: As stated in the main page, her BondOneLiner of [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1883834?tags=gouta_%28nagishiro6624%29 "Too bad for you"]] and her feat of [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1883838?tags=gouta_%28nagishiro6624%29 backhanding an enemy shell]] are both this to [[http://safebooru.org/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=gouta_%28nagishiro6624%29 gouta_(nagishiro6624)]]'s Shigure.
** Uses this one-liner again [[spoiler:against !Samidare in chapter 292, just before she uses her Raging Demon on her.]]
* IAmAMonster: explicitly has this mindset about her own protocol, as detailed in chapter 56. She goes so far as to call herself demonic and even just plain evil whenever she uses her protocol.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:killed by the Re-Class when the latter's tail plunges its sharp nose right through the center of her chest.]]
* ImprobableAimingSkills: fires a 12.7cm shell down one of the barrels of the Armored Carrier Demon to ignite the primer of the shot she's about to fire and detonate the round inside the gun.
* ItsPronouncedTroPay: due to the awkwardness of her name when English speakers try to pronounce it for the first time, she has to correct a few people on it, including Damon when they meet for the first time.
* JustFollowingOrders: used to justify to herself that [[spoiler:her contribution to driving in the final nail in Suzukaze's banishment from the fleet]] was the correct course of action...but Samidare's condition hits her conscience hard in this aspect.
* LastDitchMove: [[spoiler:Shigure's Raging Demon seems to be this, because according to the narration, Shigure makes the implication that it is the only attack that she could make at that point in the fight that would have a realistic chance to defeat !Samidare. It wounds her badly...but it doesn't finish the fight.]]
* MagikarpPower: averted. Shigure ''starts'' with her Guilt Protocol, and she only gets stronger from there. Yes, she is one of the few ship girls so far in the story to have received a Kai remodel, but the remodel itself is not what makes Shigure truly dangerous. That, and even if it did, it's still an improvement over the ingame case, where Shigure needs to wait until Kai 2 in order to become the Shigure everybody knows and loves.
* MindOverMatter: gets this as an added ability once her protocol gets triggered and best demonstrated in her fight with Yuudachi against [[spoiler:the Re-Class]] when they meet again at Cologne, in which she tears out old railroad spikes out from around her and uses them as a MacrossMissileMassacre against her opponent.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: in chapter 92, she delivers one to one of the Nashville soldiers [[spoiler:who executed an innocent family]] by [[VideoGame/{{GearsOfWar}} tearing off his right arm and beating him to death with it]].
* OrderedApology: [[spoiler:firmly tells Suzukaze to apologize to Yamakaze for her rude suggestion, which Suzukaze does.]]
* PlayingWithFire: [[spoiler:with Damon's YRC, Shigure now has control over flames that are colored bloody red.]]
* PowerCopying: a minor case: [[spoiler:during their second showdown with !Samidare, Shigure uses the energy she's received from Damon via intercourse to gain his signature Yellow Parry to block an attack from !Samidare's nodachi half that may have otherwise cut straight through her. She also uses this energy to power herself up to the point where she can use the Raging Demon on !Samidare in an attempt to put her down for good, and her body glows yellow for a little bit as a result.]]
* PowerGlows: [[spoiler:surprisingly, not at first - Shigure's bloody flames were described to be unable to give off their own natural light. But in chapter 372, with her Guilt Protocol rapidly evolving, Shigure's aura and flames when her protocol is active eventually does begin to give off its own light.]]
* ThePowerOfBlood: Type AB. One of the abilities she gets as part of her Kai remodel, Blood Surge, involves Shigure infusing a fellow ship sister with protocol energy, [[FridgeHorror which carries the implication that those blood-colored swirls that she produces upon protocol activation aren't just colored that way.]] Upon receiving this infusion, her ship sister will have strengthened shields (if they are remodeled) and will be protected by the infusion in the form of blood tendrils that block attacks for them. She can also feed a fellow ship sister her own blood, losing hit points so that she can heal the drinker of her blood, but it must be noted that the drinker will also gain Insanity for doing so.
* PreClimaxClimax: [[spoiler:heavily implied to have sex with Damon towards the end of chapter 289, and confirmed in chapter 290.]]
* PsychoticSmirk: gives one to Armored Carrier Demon as she utterly [[{{Pun}} destroys]] her.
* TheQuietOne: maintained to a certain degree from canon, but it wouldn't be out of the question to say that Shigure does talk more in this story than she does ingame, but this can be chalked up to differences in dialogue presentation between a story medium and a game medium.
* RainOfBlood: gets drenched in one when she makes Armored Carrier Demon's body explode with her protocol.
* RedBaron: averted; there's no mention of her title "Shigure of Sasebo", and she doesn't call herself this either.
* RedOniBlueOni: blue to Yuudachi's red.
* ReluctantWarrior: states in chapter 30 when she exclaims that she doesn't want to have to get used to the feeling of murder. It's an attitude that she tries to maintain over the course of the story, but as time passes, she slowly sees her protocol and her duty to kill as a NecessaryEvil.
** ReluctantPsycho: naturally, becomes this when her Guilt Protocol becomes active.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: her eyes switch from blue to blood-red when activating Guilt Protocol.
* RepressedMemories: naturally, being a victim of SurvivorGuilt, she has it quite rough with her wartime memories.
** The Battle of Vella Gulf is also a sore spot with Shigure, now that Kawakaze's around.
* {{Shoutout}}:
** a few to VideoGame/GuiltyGear, mainly [[spoiler:the moves she uses that are renamed attacks of Sol Badguy to fit Shigure's blood-themed attacks.]] Even the name of her protocol itself might be a shoutout.
** as of chapter 285, her M-4 Carbine has the [[VideoGame/{{Counterstrike}} Evil Daimyo]] weapon skin.
** one of her attacks in chapter 291 is called [[VideoGame/{{Halo}} Blood Gulch.]]
** in chapter 292, [[spoiler:she uses the [[Franchise/StreetFighter Raging Demon]] against !Samidare. Judging by the fact that flames are seen burning all around her after it's done, it's referencing the one seen in [[VideoGame/StreetFighterIII Street Fighter III: Third Strike.]]]]
* SlipknotPonytail: [[spoiler:the braid that Shigure has gets undone as she activates her demon angel form at the end of chapter 372.]]
* SoleSurvivor: heavily implied to be the driving factor for her Guilt Protocol, as evidenced by Shigure's discussion of her own protocol with Damon. This can be seen as the author's interpretation of her real-life counterpart's circumstances in respect to the story in the form of SurvivorGuilt taken [[UpToEleven to its extreme.]]
* StockKisses: gives one to Damon on his cheek at the end of chapter 185.
* ThoseTwoGirls: with Yuudachi, naturally. Just as how they are popularly portrayed in fanworks together, so too do they fight and live together in the story.
* ThroatLight: a more literal case - [[spoiler:when she begins to enter her own demon angel state, the front of Shigure's throat is described to glow with a symbol, her own [[VideoGame/FatalFury Mark of the Wolves]] in the shape of a gear with two prongs, which seems to be her universal symbol.]]
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler:it returns in the story, but through a very odd twist: even though Shigure is only Kai in her current state, !Samidare is described to have her hair up in a ponytail using a hair ornament that matches the one that Shigure would get in her second remodel.]]
* WarIsHell: Shigure explicitly hates war and everything that happens in it. It's because of this view that she doesn't agree with the concept of "veterans", that there are no veterans, only survivors.
* WeaponOfChoice: wields the TAR-21 bullpup assault rifle, or the [[http://world.guns.ru/assault/isr/tavor-tar-21-e.html IWI Tavor]] for the first half of the story, then uses a Colt M-4 Carbine after losing her Tavor at Operation Dualsight for the latter half of the story. [[spoiler:Until they run into !Samidare.]]
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: [[spoiler:if Shigure's words are to be trusted, then this is actually inverted for her. In chapter 372, when Fusou expresses her deep concern that Shigure's demonstrated protocol powers will change Shigure for the worse, Shigure herself reassures her that this will not happen because she herself isn't the one being changed, but rather her powers, because of the way that she and her sisters were designed in the Moebius program.]]
* YouHaveFailedMe: heavily subverted - there's only once, twice tops, that Shigure utters the words, "I'm disappointed in you".

!Murasame

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: this time, definitely due to her ordeal as a prisoner ship girl of the Charlotte faction. She is now no longer a BoisterousBruiser and a MotorMouth and is a much more down-to-earth girl who takes her role as a ship girl in Damon's fleet very seriously. In addition, she confides to Damon that like her older sister Shigure, she doesn't want to have to kill people, because she feels she was built to protect them, not to hurt them. [[spoiler:But just like Shigure, this doesn't stop her from becoming absolutely ruthless against those she views as a threat.]]
* AnchorsAway: [[spoiler:gains one from [[HyperspaceArsenal somewhere]] in conjunction with her Desire Protocol activation. She's able to use it at will whenever she activates her protocol afterwards, as their fight against !Samidare demonstrates.]]
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: implied. [[spoiler:The events of the Charlotte operation reveal that Kerrigan Badeau has been forcing Murasame to load a corrupted navitasium cube that contains Abyssal energy during Murasame's period of disabled captivity. In addition, when Damon carries her out of the room in which she's been held captive, Murasame's eyes begin to emit hazes just like an Abyssal's. Then comes the InterruptedSuicide, and then her protocol...]]
* {{BFS}}: gains one in the form of a giant anchor that's as tall as herself. [[HyperspaceArsenal No one knows where she quite pulls it out from.]]
* BoisterousBruiser: heavily subverted to the point of aversion. Murasame rarely boasts about her own power or those of her sisters, and while her ingame self may love battles, at first upon her initial admittance into the fleet, Murasame said that she didn't want to fight and was especially hesitant to use firearms to combat human enemies because she didn't like the idea of shooting and killing humans because they were tasked to protect them before the nuclear war. Even now, when Murasame apparently has no more trouble fighting any kind of enemy, she still does not act boisterous.
* BuxomIsBetter: isn't afraid to tease this to Damon at several points in their interactions. She's also implied to be the most buxom of the Shiratsuyu-Class, going off Umikaze's comment about being the only one to compete with her in this regard in chapter 184.
* CastFromHitPoints: [[spoiler:The anchor she gains with the activation of her Desire Protocol is revealed to be made out of the remains of her arms.]]
* ChainedByFashion: [[spoiler:her contract with Damon's YRC adds a handy chain to her anchor so that she can hurl her anchor around and hook things, like she does to !Samidare during their second battle. The chains themselves are visibly wrapped around her right arm.]]
* CoolBigSis: to everyone in her class, not just Harusame. Though, there's a time that she has a catastrophic falling-out with Suzukaze, but once they reunite, she buries the hatchet.
* CovertPervert: [[spoiler:in chapter 311, it's discovered that Murasame has used Damon's bathroom in the logistics office the night the fleet returned to base after their vacation.]]
* CutlassBetweenTheTeeth: [[spoiler:in Cologne, after Samidare revives her with her Brightwater Protocol, Murasame does this to wipe out the rest of the Abyssals save the Re-Class. She does this with an anchor [[UpToEleven that's as big as she is]], because that's what she's turned her severed arms into.]]
* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler:during the fight against the Abyssals at Cologne, when Murasame activates her protocol for the first time, she gets [[GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere a huge anchor that's nearly taller than herself]] and (presumably) uses it to kill her enemies and halt the fight between the Re-Class and Shigure and Yuudachi...after having both of her arms get ripped off from the elbows down. Granted, she was revived by Samidare's Brightwater Protocol, but still.]]
* GratuitousEnglish: averted, compared to her ingame self, since all ship girls in this story are programmed to speak fluent English.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:see ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice below.]]
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:!Samidare ends up stabbing Murasame with her own Demon Blade Murasame up through her stomach and out her left shoulder.]]
* InSeriesNickname: Maribel. [[spoiler:If the name sounds familiar to [[VideoGame/{{Touhou}} another certain character by the same name]], it's because Damon remembers the name mentioned by his mom and decides to give it to Murasame.]]
* InterruptedSuicide: has one in [[spoiler:chapter 96 by turning off her ship mode and drowning herself after being DrivenToSuicide following Damon's death, but Sanford and her sisters save her just in time.]]
* KatanasAreJustBetter: [[spoiler:with her interaction with Damon's YRC, Murasame can now morph her anchor into a demonic katana.]]
* KissDiss: inverted; when Murasame asks for an apology kiss from Damon on her cheek in chapter 83, Damon flips it on her instead and gives her a quick one right on the lips.
* LongRangeFighter: invokes this when she gains possession of Damon's old MK-14, as she then becomes the only one in her destroyer class to use a dedicated long-range rifle as opposed to the submachine guns and assault rifles her sisters use. This is reinforced again starting with chapter 285, as she's the only one in her class who's assigned a true sniper rifle in the form of an AW-P to truly fit this trope.
* MightyGlacier: this with Umikaze, though Murasame has one less defense point. Even still, she truly becomes this [[spoiler:when her Desire Protocol is activated,]] which gives her an additional 5 points in defense for its duration.
* MorphWeapon: [[spoiler:her anchor, with her contract with Damon's YRC, becomes this, turning into her Demon Blade Murasame at will.]]
* MotorMouth: subverted. She probably does talk a lot whenever she's free to do so, but when it comes to fighting or carrying out orders, she's just as dutiful as her sisters.
* NeverMyFault: she considers herself faultless in the incident that ended up getting Suzukaze banished from the fleet, instead putting all the blame on Kisaragi for being the instigator of the incident. Kisaragi even tries apologizing to her after realizing her mistakes, but Murasame doesn't even accept them (or at least accepts them only begrudgingly). Subverted much later on in the story when Damon is revealed to be resurrected, and only then does Murasame start feeling remorse for this incident when she's compelled to tell Damon the details about the incident.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: turns very, very cold towards Kisaragi for the incident that happens among them and Suzukaze.
* PreMortemOneLiner: delivers the most straightforward kind to the Abyssal who [[spoiler:tore off her arms]]:
--> Murasame: [[spoiler:"I'm going to murder you."]]
* ReluctantWarrior: just like Shigure, she makes it clear to Damon that she doesn't like the idea of killing people as her job, but hurt any of her sisters, and you can expect a huge anchor flying at you in due time.
* {{Shoutout}}:
** [[spoiler:When she morphs her anchor into a katana for her spar against Satsuki, she calls her sword [[VideoGame/MuramasaTheDemonBlade "Demon Blade Murasame"]], and her preceding words of "Let the rain fall" are themselves a reference to the fictional rain-summoning Murasame blade from the Japanese novel Nansou Satomi Hakkenden.]]
** [[spoiler:Her Passing Shower attack is reminiscent of VideoGame/{{Touhou}} spellcard attacks.]]
** as of chapter 285, her new firearm, the AI AW-P, has the [[VideoGame/{{Counterstrike}} Redline]] weapon skin to match her uniform. Perhaps even the gun itself may be one too, given the AWP's fame ingame.
** in chapter 291, she makes a popular Franchise/MortalKombat reference, yelling "Get over here!" while hooking someone on a chain and yanking them back to her. In addition, after hooking that person, she slams them down against the ground, just like [[VideoGame/StreetFighterV Birdie does in his Hanging Chain attack.]]
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: is this significantly more than her sisters due to the extreme clash of personalities that occurs [[spoiler:when Murasame's Desire Protocol is triggered for the first time.]]
--> Murasame: [[spoiler:[[CuteAndPsycho "I'm going to murder you...]][[KillEmAll just like how I murdered the others..."]]]]
* TakeUpMySword: after a bout with fellow destroyer Kisaragi, Murasame ends up with possession of Damon's [[WeaponOfChoice marksman rifle]].
* TakingYouWithMe: is subjected to this by an enemy Abyssal at the end of Operation Dualsight but is saved just in time by [[spoiler:Jeannie]].
* TheTease: in chapter 184, Murasame asks if Damon wants to join them in the showers after a long afternoon of training.
* TookALevelInBadass: compared to her ingame self, anyway. Once she joins Damon's fleet, she fights as his personal escort during the Orlando operation after she, Shoukaku, and Kaga, all of whom have been [[spoiler:Abyssalized]] to some degree, [[InASingleBound jump up to the container freighter]] on which Damon is fighting [[UpToEleven from sea level]]. Happens again when she [[spoiler:activates her Desire Protocol.]]
* UngratefulBastard: rebukes Suzukaze for attacking Kisaragi even though Suzukaze was the one who came to her aid during their quarrel and ultimately causes Suzukaze to ditch the fleet with a DisappointedInYou hammer.
* {{Yandere}}: definitely shows tendencies of this considering the nature of her conflict with Kisaragi. Her entry in the stat sheet also has shades of this, going off the descriptions of her [[spoiler:Desire Protocol.]] Hell, even the name of her protocol suggests this!
* YouAreNotAlone: in her Fleet Log, she recounts one memory from before the bombs fell, when her developers drove her to the monument that people had built for her and her crew, which made her cry upon seeing it, realizing that there were people who wanted to preserve her memory and the men who served aboard her in the war.

!Yuudachi

* AccidentalTruth: while they're just casually talking, she inadvertently suggests that "Sugar" might be a good English nickname for Shigure...which turns out to be exactly the nickname that Damon uses when he and Shigure are alone.
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: loves getting head pats and head rubs from Damon.
* AnimalMotifs: By far the most hound-like of the Shiratsuyu-Class in overall behavior and displays a great liking towards being petted, particularly by Damon. Even the narration of the story heavily describes her as such.
* AttackAttackAttack: Yuudachi really doesn't care if she's missing an eye or an arm or who her enemy is, [[{{Determinator}} she's still going to rip your throat out or die trying.]]
* BadassAdorable: cranked UpToEleven. She loves sweet stuff, loves head pats and games, and will wreck a display bin full of giant plush dolls at Cosco just to hug it. She can also rip your head off and incinerate you with yellow flames, [[OhCrap and she hasn't even hit her second remodel state yet.]]
* BadassBoast: delivers one to [[spoiler:the Re-Class]] at Cologne:
--> Yuudachi: "Yeah? 'Cause when we're done with you, they won't find anythin' left to bury at all, poi..."
** surprisingly subverted, because Yuudachi has yet to tell anyone that she'll show them the Nightmare of Solomon.
* BeachEpisode: she calls for one in chapter 184, though Damon points out that their base at MAPS is already on a beach.
* {{BFG}}: in chapter 285, she and Yuudachi get assigned specially modified AR-15's capable of firing .50-caliber Beowulf cartridges.
* BloodKnight: you don't say...
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Off-duty, when she's just hanging out with friends, she's usually quite cheerful and friendly. Add Damon into the mix, and she'll be all over him asking for doughnuts and head rubs. But once she's ordered to sortie, she can become anyone's worst [[{{Pun}} Nightmare]].
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: subverted, she's not a moron ''and'' she's much more badass.
* CurbStompCushion: manages to keep her and Shigure's fight with the Re-Class from becoming a total curb-stomp by breaking the Abyssal's ribs with one of her attacks.
* DeadlyGas: in chapter 383, Yuudachi suffers the effects of the [[spoiler:Nova Gas]] as a result of a SuicideAttack attempt of a Ri-Class [[spoiler:holding a canister of the gas, perhaps with the intent to set it off as soon as she gets close to a ship girl.]] However, she manages to free herself and doesn't suffer as much of its effects as the other ship girls before her who've been gassed do.
* DeadlyUpgrade: her Nightmare Protocol, normally just a SuperMode, becomes this if she keeps it on for too long, as reinforced in her entry in the stat sheet.
* DeflectorShields: gains one in the form of her Kai shield after receiving her Kai upgrade.
* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler:when Suzukaze turns rampant again in chapter 312, she is among the four Shiratsuyu-Class destroyers who manage to [[VisualPun stand up]] to Suzukaze to challenge her and swear their lives to protect Damon when she targets him to take responsibility for Samidare's death. However, as it turns out, that's as far as they can go.]]
* DumbBlonde: subverted. While her intelligence stat is admittedly low, she can make rational decisions even when in her Nightmare Protocol, which, mind you, many of her sisters can't.
* DumbMuscle: implied and subverted. If you look at her stats as listed on the stat sheet, Yuudachi by far has the lowest rating in Intelligence among her sisters in the Shiratsuyu-Class at 3, while technically being one of the strongest in her class with an attack rating of 9, matched only by Kawakaze. Subverted because the stat sheet specifically mentions that stats listed for ship girls are still tiers above those given for humans, so Yuudachi having a low intelligence rating compared to everyone else doesn't mean she's dumb by any means. In fact, when you consider her behavior and attitude in the story, [[FridgeLogic perhaps having a lower intelligence rating instead means that she is able to think in much more simpler terms and avoid the mental problems that her sisters have and are plagued by.]]
* ElementalHair: straw-blonde to match her [[spoiler:straw-yellow flames.]]
* EyeScream: [[spoiler:The Re-Class butchers Yuudachi's right eye at Cologne,]] but Yuudachi herself [[{{Irony}} isn't the one doing the screaming]].
* FemaleGaze: Yuudachi gives this to Damon in chapter 350, but it's because she likes the way he smells after a shower.
* FlamingHair: in chapter 350, her emotions get so out of control that her hair reflects this by spontaneously bursting into yellow flames.
* GenkiGirl: maintained. Whenever she's off duty and not training, she's a happy-go-lucky girl who's always looking for things to do and games to play.
* ImAHumanitarian: does this to [[spoiler:the Re-Class after she [[ManBitesMan rips out the radius and ulna]] of the Abyssal battleship with her teeth, then proceeds to begin chomping on them.]]
--> Yuudachi: [[spoiler:"They do say bone marrow is healthy for you, poi...plus, it tastes good..."]]
* InSeriesNickname: Yuuie.
* {{Foil}}: to her sister Shigure. Both in-protocol and out, Yuudachi is a more upbeat, cheerful, extroverted, and expressive girl and is very honest with her own feelings, easily able to accept and embrace her identity as an AxCrazy SuperSoldier BloodKnight.
* LaughingMad: does this whenever she pops her protocol and gets into the thick of the fight.
* LifeDrain: a twist on the trope: Yuudachi's Nightmare Protocol has a passive ability, Kill-Happy, that, while it instantly adds 25% insanity, allows Yuudachi to restore 1% fatigue per human kill and 10% per Abyssal kill.
* NoSell: in chapter 330, she gets attacked by [[spoiler:Red Samidare, who tries to hit her with the same attack that she used to nearly insta-kill Murakumo, but having seen it once before and having engaged her in combat prior (and with reflexes and combat sense matching Samidare's, perhaps), Yuudachi sees it coming and parries all of Red Samidare's attacks with her own yellow flames to negate the attack completely.]]
* ObliviousToLove: averted; Yuudachi, like her sisters, grows feelings for Damon over the course of the story and comfortably expresses her affection to him.
* TheOnlyOne: as revealed in Mutsuki's Fleet Log, Yuudachi was the only one who continued to interact with the Mutsuki-Class following the fight between Murasame and Kisaragi.
* OnlySaneMan: surprisingly so, despite her obvious BloodKnight and AxCrazy behavior during combat (also surprising compared to most other fan depictions of her). But if you consider her circumstances, she's the only one who comfortably embraces the insane powers her protocol gives her, has not suffered the psychological trauma that some of her other sisters have, and oftentimes is the one who talks sense into her other sisters. In addition, she can even return to her senses whenever she feels is appropriate, even in the heat of her protocol, as opposed to her sisters, who show much more difficulty regaining composure if their own protocols are in use. Makes you wonder just how bad her sisters must have it if Yuudachi of all people in the Shiratsuyu-Class is supposed to be this.
* PlayingWithFire: [[spoiler:with Damon's YRC, Yuudachi gains control over straw-yellow-colored hair, the same color as her hair.]]
* RealityEnsues: [[spoiler:when double-teamed by Javelin and Swordfish, she can't fight them both by herself, for as strong as she is. Being able to take on multiple enemies at once with her protocol might be possible with Abyssals, but fellow ship girls who are just as skilled, if not more, than she is are a much different story.]]
* RedBaron: subverted; she probably only ever calls herself the Nightmare of Solomon once, maybe twice, in the whole story.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: her eyes switch from green to bright red when activating Nightmare Protocol.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Shigure's blue.
* RunningGag: a small one, but the narration sometimes refers to her or her actions as "the power of the Poi".
* ShoutOut:
** Yuudachi's SweetTooth tendencies and her love for doughnuts is one to [[http://safebooru.org/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=yume_no_owari yume no owari's]] Yuudachi, who loves to play and [[http://safebooru.org/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=1399466 eat doughnuts.]]
** [[spoiler:her Deja Vu ability is one to that of Bedman from VideoGame/GuiltyGear.]]
* SuperMode: the straightest example among the Shiratsuyu-Class, as Yuudachi's Nightmare Protocol only [[SimpleYetAwesome increases her aggression in battle]], as opposed to the other crazy powers that her sisters get when their respective protocols are active. Which may make you wonder...if all her protocol is ever doing when Yuudachi uses it is change how aggressive she is in combat, then [[FridgeHorror what if she's just this strong normally?]]
* UpToEleven: in the game and among fanworks, she's already quite well known for her title as "The Nightmare of Solomon". In this story, this title gets weaponized as a protocol that turns her into a warhound set on [[KillEmAll killing everything]]. Even her entry in the stat sheet specifically has an ability called "Warhound" that is available for her to use once her protocol is activated.
* ValleyGirl: humorously averted; because the story decides to keep Yuudachi's VerbalTic of "Poi" without translating it into English, so she inadvertently avoids sounding like a true ValleyGirl.
* VerbalTic: while also prominent in the game, she takes it one step further in the story by even saying "poi" constantly in English, unlike most Western translations of her lines that simply translate the tic to its English equivalent, "like".
* WeaponOfChoice: uses several over the course of her service with the Combined Fleet, but two that come to mind are the [[http://www.gundigest.com/wp-content/uploads/Remington-870-MCS-3.jpg Remington 870 MCS]] and the [[http://www.heckler-koch.com/en/products/military/assault-rifles/g36/g36c/overview.html G36-C]].
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: subverted; Yuudachi is capable of knowing the emotion love itself, but in chapter 350, she wholeheartedly admits that she knows nothing about how she's going to be a good girlfriend for Damon.
* WhatTheHellHero: has to give one to Shigure in chapter 92.
* TheWorfEffect: interestingly, she inflicts this back onto [[spoiler:the Re-Class, who first inflicted this trope onto her and Shigure back at Cayo Romano,]] when they fight her again at Cologne. It gets to the point where even [[spoiler:the Re-Class]] is reduced to screaming in terror.
--> [[spoiler:Re-Class]]: "GET OFF ME! GET OFF ME, GET THE FUCK OFF MEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

!Harusame

* BigSisterWorship: subverted; there's no explicit mention of Harusame and Murasame having a special relationship in the story.
* CherryBlossoms: [[spoiler:when Harusame uses her Senbonzakura ability, it turns the raindrops of the rain falling around her and her sisters into cherry blossom-shaped drops of light.]]
* DrivenToMadness: [[spoiler:the oppressive, nauseating environment of !Samidare's reality marble, coupled with the sights of her sisters being executed in brutal ways by !Samidare herself, finally breaks Harusame and causes her to recklessly attack !Samidare with a very weak beam of light. The narration even makes a point to liken !Samidare's reaction to laughing in Harusame's face.]]
* ElementalHair: pink to match her [[spoiler:pink light.]]
* HealingHands: her Spring Protocol is shown numbing Damon's senses to allow her sisters to heal the burns on his arms [[spoiler:that he gets when Kagerou accidentally triggers her Heat Wave right in front of him]].
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:gets stabbed and nearly killed with the Sword of Light, or the Harusame, when !Samidare recreates it. It's implied that this sword was what Harusame intended to create for herself to attack !Samidare, but due to her mental breakdown, she was unable to channel her power properly and paid the price for it at the hands of her own weapon.]]
* IconicItem: while the story doesn't explicitly mention a rice container as part of her ship loadout, her "Supplier" passive ability does acknowledge it by making it a portable storage container that can carry a set amount of ship supplies to resupply ship girls on the go.
* InSeriesNickname: Haley. Even Suzukaze likes it so much that she's been calling her this too.
* LightIsGood: [[spoiler:her Senbonzakura ability changes rain into light, as !Samidare observes in chapter 291.]] This is the only reason why the Shiratsuyu-Class can continue to fight her even after getting struck by her swords, [[spoiler:because it washes away the slash marks that Blood Summer would otherwise explode.]]
* TheMedic: her "Battlefield Angel" passive ability reinforces this, as she grants better healing rates for those whose wounds she helps treat. In addition, bizarre as it is, her hair is a source of healing as well. See VisualPun.
** Now that her Spring Protocol is effectively a healing power, Harusame is one of the main Shiratsuyu-Class medics.
* MoreDakka: it seems Harusame has been assigned to be her class's squad support gunner, because her M-4 Carbine comes with 50-round X-15 drum magazines.
* OntologicalMystery: [[spoiler:Why Harusame was found in Germany of all places, cooped up inside the Metal Slug, is a total mystery.]]
* PunnyName: see VisualPun below.
* ReluctantWarrior: does not like fighting, a sentiment shared by many of her sisters. Apparently, Harusame has a worse case of this than others, because the stat sheet specifically lists one of her passive abilities as "{{Pacifist}}", which penalizes her for killing a human being or wounding one too grievously.
* RoseHairedSweetie: the argument can be made that Harusame is the one Shiratsuyu-Class destroyer whom the author imported into the story from the game without tampering with her original personality (or at least changing the least about it compared to the others). And while the stress and horrors of war and soldiering may not be fully explored in Harusame's ingame dialogue, the story makes sure to to depict how Harusame handles these as a RoseHairedSweetie, a sweet-hearted girl who wants the best for everyone but is frail emotionally and psychologically and can break easily under immense pressure.
* {{Shoutout}}: as of chapter 285, her new rifle, an M-4 Carbine with 50-round X-15 drum mags, has the [[VideoGame/{{Counterstrike}} Bullet Rain]] weapon skin to match her squad support role.
* SkipTheAnesthetic: averted, her Spring Protocol specializes in numbing her patients' pain as well as healing them.
* TheSmartGuy: implied with her intelligence rating among her class, which is the highest at 9.
* StressVomit: when [[spoiler:!Samidare deploys her reality marble and the girls see just what exactly it looks like, Harusame can't bear the nausea and does this.]]
* VisualPun: for some odd reason, Harusame's entry in the stat sheet states that her hair is actually edible and can be fed to wounded ship girls to heal them. This is due to a {{Pun}} on her name, which is also a food, known as vermicelli noodles in English. Thankfully, no one's had to go and eat Harusame's hair yet in the story, but the stat sheet [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential warns you not to make her go bald unless it's an emergency.]]
* VerbalTic: subverted; compared to more unique Verbal Tics like Yuudachi's "poi", Harusame's "desu" is more standard and isn't shown in the story's dialogue, as opposed to Kongou's. But again, there's no reason why Harusame can't have this tic while speaking in Japanese.

!Samidare

* ACupAngst: subverted, she usually doesn't make any mentions towards her chest size, but [[spoiler:in chapter 375, before she spends the night with Damon, Samidare worries that her chest size won't be enough to satisfy him, but in response Damon says that she's a decent size.]]
* AdaptationPersonalityChange:
** goes through a brief one [[spoiler:when she breaks out of Suzukaze's prison in Houston.]]
** [[spoiler:she adopts the same persona again when she reenters her angel form against her mother.]]
** [[spoiler:goes through a third one that turns her positively evil and twisted, so much so that her own sisters and Damon don't even consider her the real Samidare anymore, despite her own claims.]]
* {{Angst}}: [[spoiler:suffers this after she and her sisters discover their true identities.]]
** BadassAngster: [[spoiler:but even before this discovery, with the steady development of her Brightwater Protocol, Samidare goes from a shy, timid destroyer who typically fights in the back lines unlike her more aggressive sisters to having one of the strongest protocols in the fleet, and perhaps most versatile, as she can both heal allies and defeat enemies with it, even more so than Umikaze.]]
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler: in chapter 299, she expresses her desire to find a way to make everyone involved in the Moebius Four fiasco happy.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Samidare is kind and friendly, but as her Red Samidare state shows, she's got a side to her that you don't want to see.
* BigDamnHeroes: [[spoiler:towards the end of chapter 378, she and Damon drop out of a Cloaked Banshee helicopter to stop a large group of Agents from raping and capturing a squadron of Combined Fleet ship girls.]]
* {{Birdcaged}}: is subjected to this by [[spoiler:Suzukaze, when the latter traps her inside of Houston and entombs her inside a strange glass-like prison.]]
* BloodLust: [[spoiler:shows signs of this when she turns into Red Samidare, when she deliberately licks some blood off her own red hair, demonstrating [[FridgeHorror that her hair is dyed the color of blood...because it IS blood.]]]]
* BloodMagic: [[spoiler:in chapter 330, Red Samidare shows signs that her blood powers are distinct from Shigure's, as it is heavily implied that her red hair is dyed this color because it's actually flowing with blood, with she herself ingests at one point by licking it off a lock of her own hair, so she could be ingesting blood to boost her own powers.]]
* BoomHeadshot: in chapter 356, she gets shot in the face with a cannon shell by [[spoiler:Nisei Nenohi]].
* BorrowedCatchphrase: borrows Inazuma's signature "Hawawawa" in chapter 282, resulting in Inazuma having a brief SneezeCut.
* BreakOutTheMuseumPiece: in chapter 285, she gets back the Type 38 that Mr. Harrison gave to them as a gift, and with a few modifications to make the rifle more usable and modern, it's now part of Samidare's personal equipment list.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:suffers this at the hands of !Samidare, who forces her to experience her memories from Moebius Four.]]
* BrokenBird: [[spoiler:the truth behind Moebius Four has made her this.]]
* BrokenSmile: [[spoiler:gives Damon one at the end of chapter 298. It stays with her throughout chapter 299.]]
* ButThouMust: invokes this [[spoiler:on herself in chapter 299.]]
* CannotSpitItOut: played with. [[spoiler:There comes a point in the story when Samidare grows emotionally close to Damon and has the courage to ask him if she can call him "Daddy" (see the Shoutout section below), but she doesn't outright tell him about her feelings towards him. But in chapter 299, Samidare asks him if he will still love her despite what she is now.]]
* CallBack: [[spoiler:when she's calming a freaking-out Yamakaze in chapter 299, she begins reciting the same MadnessMantra that Damon was heard reciting in Baltimore.]]
* CallingYourAttacks: [[spoiler:in chapter 378, Samidare calls every special attack she performs except for her Reppuuken and Shine Knuckle.]]
* CooldownHug: [[spoiler:gives one to Yamakaze while she's suffering her nervous breakdown in chapter 299 to help her calm down.]]
* CuteClumsyGirl: while not as clumsy as fanworks might portray her to be, she still has a few clumsy moments - she usually winds up eating the dirt as she trips over her own feet or something along this nature, such as in chapter 185 and 251.
* DisappearedDad: [[spoiler:a strange case: because her mother, the first-generation Samidare, still survived the Moebius program, this means that after giving birth to the second-generation Samidare, the first-gen disappeared off somewhere, presumably with Kevinson, while leaving her daughter behind to be taken into the original F.L.E.E.T. Project. For for about twenty years, Samidare's mother was indeed missing - not that she herself realized this, until they meet again for the first time at Cape Canaveral.]]
* ElementalEyeColors: blue to match her [[spoiler:blue water.]] [[spoiler:And later, when Red Samidare shows up, red to match her boiling blood.]]
* ElementalHair: blue to match her [[spoiler:blue water.]] [[spoiler:And later, when Red Samidare shows up, red to match her boiling blood.]]
* EmbodimentOfVirtue: given the SiblingYinYang between her and Suzukaze, Samidare truly does seem like this.
** [[spoiler:though, this does get averted when she slips into her Red Samidare mode.]]
* EvilRedhead: [[spoiler:what she's seemed to become in chapter 325.]]
* EvilCostumeSwitch: in chapter 349, [[spoiler:because she doesn't like the light colors of her ordinary uniform, Samidare uses her powers to dye her uniform's color scheme from white and blue to [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/2660499?tags=samidare_%28kantai_collection%29 red and black.]]]]
* EyeColourChange: [[spoiler:in chapter 325, it's revealed that Samidare's transformation has also turned her eyes red.]]
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: not a permanent one, but [[spoiler:her hair grows hair flaps that look suspiciously like the ones that Shigure and Yuudachi get when they receive their second remodels in the game.]]
* {{Expy}}: [[spoiler:as of chapter 365, Samidare seems to be filling in a Rock Howard-esque role in the story; see her {{Shoutouts}} entry below for more details.]]
* FacePlant: what she ends up doing whenever her CuteClumsyGirl tendencies kick in. It either hurts her nose or her pride.
* FlashStep: [[spoiler:gains this power as Red Samidare.]]
* ForHappiness: she's determined to find a way to make everyone happy, including her sisters, her developers, Damon, [[spoiler:and her own mother after finding out about Moebius Four.]]
* GenerationXerox: apart from the fact that the Shiratsuyu-Class was designed to be more affectionate by default to their assigned Admiral (whoever it might have been) than other ship classes, [[spoiler:Samidare in particular stands out because her mother is still alive, making comparisons quite easy to make between the two of them. In fact, they're meant to be clones of each other - you can't get much more xeroxed than that.]]
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: [[spoiler:more like just one eye, but at the end of chapter 298, Damon finds her with her left eye burning...and the haze is made up of a mass of some very familiar letters.]]
** [[spoiler:and when her protocol evolves after Damon restores her back to normal from her Red Samidare state, her eyes glow with wisps of pale blue energy.]]
* TheGoldenRule: [[spoiler:Samidare twists this trope/thought around: because she and her sisters have taken away the happiness and lives of their own mothers, it's only fair for !Samidare to take back what is rightfully hers.]]
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: at the end of their fight in chapter 292, [[spoiler:!Samidare forces Samidare to see the truth about the Shiratsuyu-Class destroyers. In the next scene, Samidare is described to have WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises while clutching her head.]]
* GreaterNeedThanMine: [[spoiler:in chapter 299, she says that wants everyone around her to be happy, but she leaves herself out of it.]]
* HealingHands: is shown healing Damon's burns with her Brightwater Protocol. [[spoiler:This is significant because she's tried healing his earlier wounds with her protocol, but with mixed results; now, with his YRC, she's able to heal human wounds flawlessly.]]
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:is left in this state after Sanford tells her the truth about her and her class.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:at the end of chapter 308, Samidare successfully erases !Samidare's hostile intent towards the Shiratsuyu-Class, but this comes at the cost of her own life.]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: [[spoiler:after she's exposed to the truth about her class, she no longer considers her own happiness relevant.]]
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: [[spoiler:declares to her sisters in chapter 330 that she wants to kill her sisters, her mother, and then herself to rid the world of the abominations that they are.]]
* HiddenDepths: her Brightwater Protocol. Normally, it should only be capable of defensive, mainly healing, properties, as demonstrated on both Murasame and Damon (though it doesn't really go well for Damon). [[spoiler:But when Suzukaze traps her in Houston and tries to convert her to follow her new ideologies, Samidare not only reveals that she's more than willing to stop Suzukaze by force, but her protocol also seems to adopt the same mindset and is used offensively.]]
** [[spoiler:now that Samidare is back to normal and begins fighting again in chapter 378, her protocol is now firmly both an offensive and defensive power.]]
* HolyHalo: [[spoiler:gains one during her fight against Suzukaze. She even uses it [[UtilityWeapon as a weapon.]]]]
* HumbleHero: [[spoiler:despite all the atrocities involved in Moebius Four and the fact that her mother wants to kill her, Samidare still thanks them for everything that they've done for her to let her live.]]
--> Samidare: [[spoiler:"And for that, I can't thank them enough...that a wretched, weak girl like me was given the chance to know what living feels like."]]
* IAmAMonster: [[spoiler:she thinks this now, after realizing what the births of herself and her sisters have done to their mothers.]]
* IAmNotHim: [[spoiler:she tells Damon that she is not the Sam he speaks of.]]
* IdenticalGrandson: [[spoiler:in this case, identical daughter. Justified because the details of the experiment that produced her and her sisters have it that her mother had been artificially inseminated by a sperm cell that had its original DNA removed and substituted with her own DNA, effectively giving birth to an identical clone.]]
* IgnoranceIsBliss: [[spoiler:realizes this in chapter 299.]]
* ImNotAHeroIm: [[spoiler:tells Damon this in chapter 299.]]
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:gets stabbed through her pelvis and has her womb ripped out by !Samidare in chapter 307.]]
* InsaneForgiveness: her key defining characteristic, and is demonstrated at multiple intervals throughout the story: she forgives Murasame and makes amends with her in terms of their sistership [[spoiler:after Murasame compelled Suzukaze is leave the fleet and was indirectly responsible for her banishment]], and she forgives Suzukaze in a sense [[spoiler:when she defeats Suzukaze at Houston after assuring her that she will always love her despite the things she'd suffered at Suzukaze's hands while in the city.]] It's even listed as a passive ability in her entry in the stat sheet.
* InSeriesNickname: Damon shortens her name to Sam. Even Suzukaze winds up calling Samidare this in English, though Suzukaze won't admit it's because of Damon that she's doing so.
* InterfaceScrew: [[spoiler:when she uses her protocol to revive the horribly wounded Murasame, Samidare's heads-up display is invaded by a torrent of X's, Y's, and Z's.]]
* InTheBlood: [[spoiler:since the Shiratsuyu-Classes, both first-gen and second-gen, are meant to be clones of each other, naturally second-gen Samidare is both the clone and the daughter of first-gen Samidare. She demonstrates her inherited skills and powers in her Red Samidare mode, in which she uses her mother's FlashStep moves and blood explosion attacks, the same ones that killed her and her sisters at Houston.]]
* {{Irony}}: [[spoiler:during their first encounter with !Samidare at Houston, the Shiratsuyu-Class get killed by her hands from exploding blood attacks. When Samidare becomes Red Samidare after their second encounter at Houston, she kills her own sister, with the same style of exploding blood attacks.]]
* ItsAllMyFault: [[spoiler:Samidare comes to the conclusion that everyone involved in the Moebus Four fiasco is faultless, but because of the severity of the situation, there needs to be at least one guilty party. She rests that blame on her own class, and she wants to shoulder that blame for her sisters.]]
* KickChick: When she and Suzukaze [[spoiler:fight at Houston,]] she notably only uses kicks to fight as melee attacks.
** [[spoiler:averted when she is seen fighting after this scene - she incorporates punches into her martial arts as well.]]
* LightIsGood: have you ever wondered why Samidare's protocol is called the [[FridgeLogic "Brightwater"]] Protocol?
** LightIsNotGood: [[spoiler:though, this being said, when she's in her Red Samidare state, her hair is bright bloody red...]]
* LossOfIdentity: [[spoiler:she no longer considers herself "Samidare", because the real Samidare is her mother. She only responds to the name from Damon and the others now because that's what they've been calling her all this time and they're used to it, and she's now struggling to think of who she is now.]]
* MakingASplash: Samidare's innate ability, Water Will, allows her to manipulate water directly, but only for purely defensive maneuvers.
** [[spoiler:her protocol's energy takes the form of watery streams colored bright blue. Even when her protocol evolves and starts being portrayed in a flame-like state, her flames' texture and appearance are still described as watery and fluid.]]
* TheMedic: can be considered this due to the nature of her Brightwater Protocol, which is the only protocol of the Shiratsuyu-Class that is apparently incapable of being used offensively. And just like Harusame, Samidare's "Battlefield Angel" passive ability also reinforces this, as she grants better healing rates for those whose wounds she helps treat.
** Now that her Brightwater Protocol can properly heal human wounds, Samidare is one of the main Shiratsuyu-Class medics.
** CombatMedic: becomes this for good [[spoiler:beginning in chapter 378, when she not only defeats a force of Agents with her evolved protocol but also heals the ship girls she and Damon have come to save from said Agents.]]
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:almost a literal example. Samidare briefly gains the profile of an angel in order to defeat Suzukaze and return her to normal.]]
* MoreDakka: as of chapter 285, she is now the only ship girl in her class to carry three separate weapons: her Type 38, her M-4 Carbine, and her USP-45 sidearm.
* MyBloodRunsHot: [[spoiler:Red Samidare's blood powers are explicitly described to be extremely hot in temperature; her personal blood field that protects her from attacks is described to melt the magazines and bullets that her sisters still had in their load-bearing vests when they moved in to hold her down. Note that while Shigure herself can summon flames of blood, they aren't known to burn anything. Even Red Samidare's presence is hot, as she was evaporating the seawater around her just by standing on it.]]
** [[spoiler:in chapter 365, Samidare, even after returning to normal, suffers an incident of boiling blood that causes her extreme pain.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:her reaction when she's exposed to the truth behind the Shiratsuyu-Classes and the Moebius Four project that they were involved in, particularly in the sense of what her birth has caused for her mother, the first Samidare.]]
* MythologyGag: there is a well-known meme in the Japanese Kantai Collection community regarding Samidare and Suzukaze specifically because their artist who initially drew their CG's for the game back in 2013 has either mysteriously gone missing or refuses to work on Kantai Collection anymore for reasons unknown. Perhaps because of this, Samidare and Suzukaze, despite being two of the original Shiratsuyu-Class destroyers who have been in the game ever since its launch, have had no CG updates and no Kai 2 remodels (in comparison, Kawakaze, who was implemented over two and a half years after these two, received her Kai 2 remodel less than a year later), thus giving the impression that these two destroyers have been wholly ignored and abandoned. As a result, Samidare in particular suffers the unfortunate Japanese pun of 「さみ?誰?」 ("Sami? Dare?") which, in English, translates something to "Sam? Who's that?" [[spoiler:These are the exact words that Samidare speaks to Damon at the end of chapter 298.]]
* NecessaryDrawback: [[spoiler:perhaps a minor one, but in chapter 291, when she tries to treat the grievously wounded Yamakaze, she finds that her power works much more efficiently if her patient is decently nourished and healthy. Yamakaze has apparently been starving before her appearance, so her healing is nowhere near as effective and only barely stabilizes Yamakaze's condition, like her treatment of Damon's burns earlier in the story were.]]
* NextTierPowerup: the progression of her powers goes something like this:
** her default power is a purely defensive ability, a simple ability to manipulate surrounding bodies of water in strictly defensive ways, called Water Will.
** her protocol, the Brightwater Protocol, emerges [[spoiler:when she saves Murasame's life with it at Cologne.]] This is when she is first able to heal other ship girls with her protocol, but it is still a purely defensive ability.
** [[spoiler:when Samidare gets restored back to her normal self from her time as Red Samidare, her protocol turns pale and causes her blood to boil, perhaps a direct side effect of her alter ego, which makes sense, because Red Samidare's powers revolve around boiling blood. And after Damon manages to calm her protocol down and help Samidare manage her energy so that she can control her new protocol for herself, Samidare then demonstrates her protocol's newfound offensive abilities and moves.]]
** [[spoiler:and finally, at the end of chapter 378, when Damon takes a bullet for Naganami and gets his nose shot off, presumably because of their night together the previous evening, Samidare's power automatically heals him, even without Samidare having to do anything.]]
* NonIndicativeName: her Brightwater Protocol doesn't have anything to do with water. This is a common trend for the latter half of the Shiratsuyu-Class, whose protocols all end in "water".
** averted in chapter 292 - [[spoiler:when Samidare gets the idea of drawing her own blood to see if she could use it to extinguish the flames burning Yuudachi alive, her blood turns into bright blue water, turning this trope into a case of MeaningfulName.]]
* NotSoDifferent: [[spoiler:As Red Samidare, she reveals that she has many of the same powers that her mother has: the FlashStep, explosive blood, and her hatred of her sisters. The last one isn't a power, necessarily, but it may as well be.]]
* OrbitalBombardment: [[spoiler:what her Six Black Heavens' Guns attack comes down to.]]
* PersonalitySwap: [[spoiler:in chapter 325, when she awakens, Samidare is...different. Just look at the first thing she says to Suzukaze:]]
--> Samidare: [[spoiler:"Shut the fuck up, you worthless waste of a sister."]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: [[spoiler: an orbital attack that flattens and vaporizes an entire city while leaving almost nothing behind? Samidare has definitely become this.]]
* PhlebotinumRebel: becomes one against Suzukaze in Houston.
* PlayingWithFire: [[spoiler:in chapter 377, when Samidare attempts to heal Damon's wounds with her revamped protocol, her energy now takes the form of watery blue flames.]]
* PluckyGirl: heavily subverted. Yes, she will do her best despite everything that happens to her, but eventually there come problems and struggles serious enough that her usual canon clumsy self won't cut it, and Samidare must rely on more than just pluckiness to overcome her troubles.
* PowerDyesYourHair: [[spoiler:when Samidare is infected with the XYZ virus, her hair gets dyed red. What kind of red, you ask? [[ThePowerOfBlood Bright blood red.]]]]
* PowerGivesYouWings: [[spoiler:on two occasions: when she turns into her angel form, and again after Damon restores her from her Evil Samidare form.]]
* ThePowerOfBlood: Type AB, [[spoiler:like Shigure. In chapter 292, Samidare gets the morbid idea of biting her own tongue to draw blood as a desperate attempt to heal Yuudachi of the flames that are burning her alive. It works, because Samidare turns her own blood into liquid Brightwater Protocol energy with which she uses to put out the flames.]]
** [[spoiler:reinforced when Samidare turns into Red Samidare; now, her blood is used offensively, just like Shigure's, but her blood is a brighter shade of red and is very, very hot.]]
* PreClimaxClimax: [[spoiler:as with her other sisters, only mention of her night together with Damon is shown.]]
* PunnyName: averted; no one's heard confusing her name with the rainy phenomenon that she shares her name with.
* RapunzelHair: it goes through a few makeovers over the course of the story, some good...some bad.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: [[spoiler:when she turns into her Red Samidare form, her eyes become, well, red.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: blue to Suzukaze's red.
** [[spoiler:has this with herself in a literal sense as well: normal Samidare is blue, and Red Samidare is...red.]]
* ReluctantWarrior: does not like fighting, a sentiment shared by many of her sisters. Apparently, Samidare, like Harusame, has a worse case of this than others, because the stat sheet specifically lists one of her passive abilities as "{{Pacifist}}", which penalizes her for killing a human being or wounding one too grievously.
** but again, like her sisters, Samidare will fight willingly if it's to save her friends and comrades from danger, as chapter 378 shows perfectly.
* RepressedMemories: due to her historic relationship with Yuubari, the light cruiser. While in the game and in fanworks this is explored, in the story the stat sheet cements this by inflicting accumulating penalties to Samidare if she deploys without Yuubari. Her memories about colliding with Hiei, the battleship, don't get mentioned because, well, Hiei isn't part of the fleet yet.
* SelfMadeOrphan: [[spoiler:she now considers herself as this, because of the fact that their births were intended to kill their mothers. Subverted because her own mother is still alive.]]
* {{Shoutout}}:
** Several aspects of her [[spoiler:angel form. The spiked halo that she acquires when she first emerges from her cell is reminiscent of Jack-O's spiked halo from VideoGame/GuiltyGear, as is her orbital attack, which is also named after one of the vocals from the Guilty Gear Xrd Sign soundtrack of the same name, Six Black Heavens' Guns, and the Blue Keys that she steals from Suzukaze are based off the Black Keys that Ciel uses from VisualNovel/{{Tsukihime}}.]]
** in chapter 218, Samidare's request to Damon to call him "Daddy" is a subtle one to a Samidare doujin titled [[https://danbooru.donmai.us/pools/11319 "Ame Nochi Musume"]] by watarai keiji.
** as of chapter 285, her new rifle, an M-4 Carbine, has the [[VideoGame/{{Counterstrike}} Brightwater]] weapon skin to match her protocol.
** [[spoiler:in chapter 330, Samidare says to Yuudachi, "Then I'll see you in hell! Now burn!" This is the quote that Oni gives M. Bison in [[VideoGame/StreetFighterIV Super Street Fighter IV]] at the start of the match if you fight Oni as a secret character in Arcade Mode with M. Bison.]]
** [[spoiler:as Red Samidare, in chapter 334 she uses Aozaki Aoko's Another Arc attack from VideoGame/MeltyBlood. In the same chapter, she also uses Evil Ryu's Rakuyo Ketsueki-Ken air fireball seen in Omega VideoGame/StreetFighterIV.]]
** [[spoiler:the events of chapter 365 now seem to firmly pitch Samidare as a [[VideoGame/FatalFury Rock Howard-esque]] figure. She even has a special marking on the backs of her hands that not only imitate the emblem blazed across the back of Rock Howard's jacket but is also called the Mark of the Wolves. Even her mother !Samidare reveals that she, too, shares this Mark, so perhaps she is the Geese Howard to Samidare's Rock.]]
*** [[spoiler:and in chapter 378, Samidare uses not one, not two, but four of Rock's moves in one fight: the Raging Storm, the Reppuuken, Shine Knuckle, and the Rasetsu: Shinkuu Nage. And when the fight is over, she even suffers the boiling blood side effect that Rock suffers if he wins a round in the fighting games he's featured in with a Raging Storm or Neo Deadly Rave super move.]]
* SiblingYinYang: to Suzukaze in a hodgepodge of respects, other than the apparent personality foils. Samidare begins with a neutral opinion of Damon that slowly improves over time, with a sharp boost after [[spoiler:Damon picks her and Suzukaze up from Houston]]; her protocol focuses on healing others rather than killing (even the names of their protocols are directly opposite); Samidare's travels while [[spoiler:Suzukaze is kicked out of the fleet]] have her mend the worsening relationships she's been having with her sisters up to that point; [[spoiler:she becomes a benevolent (or at least doesn't harbor malicious intent) angel at Houston]]; even the weapons they decide to use also applies, as Samidare is an assault rifle user fighting at mid- to longer ranges with her AR-15.
* SirSwearsALot: [[spoiler:as Red Samidare, her speech becomes much more casual, abrasive, and profane.]]
* SpeedBlitz: [[spoiler:she nearly instantly kills Murakumo by attacking her with blood slashes six times before she can even react.]]
* StarterEquipment: averted from the game - Damon finds her in chapter 28, though she does have the distinction of being the second starter ship girl from the game whom Damon comes across.
* StockKisses: [[spoiler:with Damon in chapter 299, and again in chapter 377.]]
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:Samidare's Brightwater Protocol, by default, wasn't a SuperMode like some of her other sisters' protocols, but when it turns into "Heaven Install", it becomes this.]]
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:since Red Samidare claims that she and the normal Samidare are in fact the same person, Red Samidare is this.]]
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler:restrains her sister while her own OrbitalBombardment attack blows the two of them up.]]
* TearsOfBlood: [[spoiler:her burning left eye at the end of chapter 298 oozes blue tears that, while they're not blood per se, are described to have the viscosity of blood as they fall down her face. On second thought, considering what her blood turned into in chapter 292, [[FridgeHorror maybe those blue tears ARE her blood...]]]]
* ThemeNaming: Every single Shiratsuyu-Class (except the unintroduced Yamakaze) starting with Samidare down has a protocol that ends in "water". Samidare's is called Brightwater Protocol.
** [[spoiler:when she turns into Red Samidare, Samidare's Brightwater Protocol is now called the Bloodwater Protocol.]]
* ThisCannotBe: her reaction to [[spoiler:Sanford spilling the beans on the Moebius Four project that she and her sisters were a result of.]]
* ThoseTwoGirls: with Suzukaze. The story takes their relationship one step further, as in her fleet log, Samidare believes that the CustomUniform that she and Suzukaze share is part of the reason why she feels she and her sister were being distanced away from the rest of their sisters.
* ThouShaltNotKill: [[spoiler:if what !Samidare says is true, this is her creed when Heaven Installed.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: even though all of her sisters are considerably more badass than their canon selves, Samidare is perhaps the most drastic example, especially when [[spoiler:her angel form comes out.]]
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: [[spoiler:has two.]]
** [[spoiler:first awakens her own angel form after Suzukaze entombs her in the glass prison at Houston.]]
** [[spoiler:draws it out again in chapter 307 to immediately [[HealingFactor heal herself of her grievous wound inflicted on her by her own mother]].]]
* WeaponOfChoice: Uses a red-dot AR-15 for much of the story, for even longer than Shiratsuyu has held onto her MSMC. Damon also gives her a Type 38 Arisaka [[spoiler:given to them by Mr. Harrison, but she doesn't get to keep it for long.]]
* WhatTheHellHero: gives one to Suzukaze in chapter 214 when they talk about Damon.
* TheWorfEffect: seems to inflict this onto Suzukaze [[spoiler:when for all the chaotic horror that Suzukaze pulls off with her rampant Darkwater Protocol, such as turning Houston into a case of RealityIsOutToLunch, Samidare, once broken free, proceeds to hack and utterly dismantle Suzukaze's reality marble over the city by annihilating the entire Houston metropolitan area.]]
** [[spoiler:does this again, this time to her own mother, !Samidare. When !Samidare tries to deploy her reality marble to fight her, Samidare's Six Black Heavens' Guns simply melts it away like lighting a piece of paper on fire. Keep in mind that this reality marble was what !Samidare used to defeat all of her sisters in their previous fight.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: [[spoiler:except her hair is now red due to the XYZ virus infection as of chapter 320.]]

!Umikaze

* AnIcePerson: her protocol allows her to decrease the temperature of whatever she touches or the air in her immediate vicinity. According to her entry in the stat sheet, she can also generate actual ice as well, through her Stasis Cell and Icewalk abilities.
* BraidsOfAction: and of note, Umikaze has undone her hair once before.
* CovertPervert: Kawakaze teases her about how "active" she was with Damon in chapter 331 when she's normally a reserved, polite girl.
* CombatMedic: also according to her entry in the stat sheet, she's capable of healing other ship girls using her Icewater Protocol. Is this more so than Samidare because her protocol isn't restricted only to healing people; in fact, Umikaze is seen more times attacking with it than healing.
** Now that her Icewater Protocol has gotten even better at healing through Damon's YRC, Umikaze is one of the main Shiratsuyu-Class medics.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:was well on her way before Damon rescues her and Kawakaze. Damon manages to convince her out of it.]]
* EarCleaning: does this with Kawakaze for Damon in chapter 282. Even the chapter title is this in Japanese.
* ElementalHair: snowy white hair to match her Icewater Protocol.
* TheGlomp: delivers one to her twin sister Kawakaze after the latter [[spoiler:flutters down from the roof of Damon's house in New Chicago with her new wings.]] Kawakaze's forced to let her curl up in them.
** does this to Yamakaze too, [[spoiler:after Samidare repairs her mental damage and calms her down.]]
* HealingHands: As a result of her Icewater Protocol, which she uses to treat Damon's burns on his arms in chapter 267.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:gets stabbed by !Samidare's hand that plunges through her gut.]]
* IndirectKiss: the narration doesn't explicitly mention or suggest it, but she asks to have a sip of Damon's energy drink in chapter 184. Damon almost overlooks Umikaze's intention, but he gives her a sip knowingly anyway.
* InSeriesNickname: Yumi.
* LettingHerHairDown: in chapter 316, she's got her hair untied and down from their usual single braid.
* LingerieScene: [[spoiler:the first 3/4 of chapter 316. She and Kawakaze crash Damon's room in underwear versions of their own uniforms.]]
* MidSeasonUpgrade: [[spoiler:after diving into Damon's dreamworld for the first time, both she and Kawakaze seem to gain power-ups to their energies, as the narration explicitly compares them to how they were before.]]
* MightyGlacier: fittingly so compared to the rest of her sisters. According to the stat sheet, she might not be the hardest-hitting or even the slowest (Murasame technically has lower speed than her), but Umikaze has the highest defense rating among her sisters at 9.
* MyBiologicalClockIsTicking: asks Damon if he would be interested in giving her and Kawakaze children. Damon says, [[LittleNo "No."]]
* NextTierPowerup: seems to be the case for Umikaze, in regards to her Icewater Protocol. First, she starts off with the class-standard silvery-white swirls of energy around herself and her base powers of cooling and temperature manipulation, then progresses to legitimate healing powers with [[spoiler:Damon's YRC]], then goes on to (presumably) more powerful frost and ice abilities with a color change in her protocol aura that changes them to vivid ice-white and ice-blue, and now, with chapter 331, finally to the acquisition of violet flames.
* NonIndicativeName: her Icewater protocol has nothing to do with water - unless, of course, you consider ice and water the same entity, only in different forms.
* PlayingWithFire: with chapter 331, after [[spoiler:receiving energy from Damon via sexual intercourse]], Umikaze gains access to violet flames.
* PreClimaxClimax: [[spoiler:like Shigure, Umikaze and Kawakaze get one of their own at the end of chapter 330 with Damon, in accordance with the promise Kawakaze forced Damon to make with them.]]
* ThePromise: in chapter 299, it's revealed that because of the way Yamakaze had sunk in the war, her sisters who were part of her squadron, Umikaze, Kawakaze, and Suzukaze, all made a promise to her before they got shipped over to the US that they wouldn't let something like that happen again. [[spoiler:It doesn't hold up like they intended to.]]
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: [[spoiler:suffers this at the hands of the Inner Circle agents in their base in Mexico, and was nearly DrivenToSuicide as a result.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: blue to Kawakaze's red. Even ColorCodedForYourConvenience.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: their second battle against [[spoiler:!Samidare starts off as this for Umikaze, after she witnesses her stab and cripple Yamakaze with her sword through the chest.]]
* {{Shoutout}}:
** One of her attacks against [[spoiler:!Samidare]] is one to Nash's Tragedy Assault from VideoGame/StreetFighterV.
** as of chapter 285, her new rifle, an AK-104, has the [[VideoGame/{{Counterstrike}} Vulcan]] weapon skin to match her uniform.
** in chapter 291, her opening attack against, again, [[spoiler:!Samidare]] is one to Nash's Moonsault from VideoGame/StreetFighterV.
** moon theme for her attacks, violet flames, and a theme song with a heavy saxophone line - [[VideoGame/TheKingOfFighters hey, that sounds familiar to a certain someone, doesn't it...]]
* SiblingYinYang: to Kawakaze. Umikaze is a calmer, more polite and courteous girl whose powers revolve around ice and cold.
* StockKisses: with Kawakaze, she's fond of giving Damon these.
* TheTease: like Murasame, though she's more straightforward with it. She even outright declares that she's the only one among her sisters who can compete with Murasame in terms of [[UnusualEuphemism upper hull armor]].
* ThemeNaming: Icewater Protocol.
* ThisCannotBe: her reaction to [[spoiler:Yamakaze telling them that !Samidare is actually Samidare's mother, and that the Shiratsuyu-Class are not in fact truly ship girls in nature.]]
* ThoseTwoGirls: with Kawakaze. They even get their own mini-arc in the story with Damon. [[spoiler:It's not as innocent as it sounds.]]
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: while not necessarily a true "girlfriend" of Damon, both she and Kawakaze will still fiercely protect him, as their brief conflict with the Re-Class following their emergency repairs demonstrates.

!Yamakaze

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: for someone who's [[spoiler:fresh off a nineteen-year period of complete and utter isolation]], she's quite honest about her feelings and isn't afraid to talk about them. In addition, while her canon self actively tries to avoid contact with her Admiral, in this story, not only does she find herself attracted to Damon because of the heat that his [[spoiler:YRC]] produces, but she also doesn't try to hide it, because it helps her get her mind off her troubled past.
* AffectionateNickname: just like how all of her sisters have English nicknames given to them by Damon, she gets her own from him too in chapter 307: Yammy.
* AndIMustScream: [[spoiler:She was somehow activated while still stuck in her soundproof, nearly indestructible shipping crate before the nukes fell and was forced to subsist on what should have been a few weeks' supplies but ended up being a 19-year journey. As bad as her psyche is, it's a miracle she's not completely catatonic or psychotic yet.]]
* AwfulTruth: [[spoiler:Yamakaze's words imply that she knows the exact truth behind the Shiratsuyu-Class, seeing that they line up with the events of previous chapters.]]
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:as a result of her death at the hands of !Samidare.]]
* BlowYouAway: her Clearwater Protocol gives her access to wind-based powers.
* BoomHeadshot: [[spoiler:how Yamakaze dies in chapter 292.]]
** happens [[spoiler:again]] to her in chapter 356, when Red Samidare accidentally friendly fires Yamakaze by shooting a cannon shell right into Yamakaze's face - [[spoiler:not that Samidare would have cared.]]
* BornUnlucky: as if her historical background as a warship didn't treat her badly enough, [[spoiler:in this story, she's found captured by !Samidare, who uses her as a shield at first to prevent the Shiratsuyu-Class from attacking her, giving her time to convey to them hints about the truth behind the Shiratsuyu-Class. Once she's had enough of Yamakaze's talking, !Samidare summarily stabs her through the chest and cripples her, then kills her off for good to make her the first ship girl to die by a headshot that destroys her brain after she's done fighting the rest of her sisters. Add to all this the fact that when Samidare tries to heal Yamakaze, she finds that Yamakaze's body shows signs of prolonged starvation because it's not healing anywhere near as fast as she expects, and it's most definitely not the Brightwater Protocol's fault. Add to this fact another one that she's been stuck inside her own shipping crate ever since she was shipped to the US before the nuclear war conscious and with no way of getting herself out, and this is perhaps the single worst set of cards dealt to any ship girl, and especially traumatizing to Yamakaze in particular due to her historical RealLife counterpart's demise.]]
* BrokenBird: [[spoiler:she starts off as one the instant she's introduced to the story. Talk about truly being BornUnlucky...]]
** [[spoiler:even more so when it's revealed what her backstory leading up to her introduction to the story is in chapter 296. Sanford says Yamakaze will not be the same as before as he remembers her when she wakes up.]]
* CooldownHug: gives one to Suzukaze when the latter starts losing her shit and punches Damon in the face in chapter 310.
* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler:she was stuck inside her own shipping crate for nineteen years all the way through the nuclear apocalypse with no one to talk to, save for the occasional looting bandit party who couldn't break her free, living on ship supplies that was only meant to last her a few weeks at best. Sanford also adds that for her to have survived for this long on such a meager amount of rations, she needed to have rationed her own supplies knowing no one was going to find her for a long time. Sanford says out of all the ship girls with tragic backstories, Yamakaze is the one he pities the most.]]
* DrivenToMadness: [[spoiler:how her sisters find her at the end of chapter 290. With further details in the following two chapters, it can be implied that this was due to an unknown period of starvation inflicted on Yamakaze and her exposure to the truth behind the Shiratsuyu-Class, most likely through !Samidare.]]
* DyingAlone: [[spoiler:heavily implied that not only is this still her overarching fear, but that during her period of isolation, Yamakaze felt that she basically suffered this fate minus the dying part.]]
* FragileFlower: maintained and subverted at the same time. [[spoiler:despite being DrivenToMadness when her sisters find her, after being somewhat healed by Harusame, Samidare, and Umikaze, she at least makes an attempt to protect Samidare by daring to tell !Samidare to stay away from her. It ultimately gets her killed, but despite everything she's gone through, once she has a [[{{Pun}} clear mind,]] she still wants to protect her sisters.]]
* FragileSpeedster: she's one of the fastest Shiratsuyu-Class with a raw speed of 9, but her agility and reflex ratings are very poor [[spoiler:[[FridgeLogic because she's been cooped up in a shipping crate for the past 19 years]]]]. In addition, she has the lowest armor and health point ratings in her class at only a mere 150 and 750.
* FreakOut: [[spoiler:Yamakaze has a colossal breakdown in chapter 299 when she first gets reactivated immediately following her reconstruction.]]
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: [[spoiler:when reconstructing her, Sanford informs Damon that Yamakaze somehow got reactivated, either due to carelessness or a glitch in her programming, sometime before reaching the United States and was stuck for nineteen years inside her own shipping crate at her original destination, Arnold AFB near Nashville. As proof, Sanford and Mr. Araki find out that she's had active memories archived from all the way back in 2010. This explains why Yamakaze was in the state that she was when the rest of the Shiratsuyu-Class met her for the first time at Booneville.]]
* HatesBeingTouched: screams at Samidare not to touch her in chapter 299.
* HealingHands: more like a healing hug. This is how Yamakaze calms Suzukaze with her Fuurinkazan ability, "purifying" her volatile anger in chapter 310, with a slight dose of LightIsGood in the form of the subtle rings of light that are described to appear around their feet when Yamakaze embraces her sister.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: [[spoiler:she tries to refuse her sisters' affection at first when she wakes up after being healed by Samidare in chapter 299, but she quickly caves in.]]
** she also doesn't consider the fact that [[spoiler:she somehow managed to survive nineteen years cooped up in her own shipping crate]] to be some kind of monumental accomplishment, because she feels that she literally did nothing, and merely "surviving" doesn't qualify to be an accomplishment by itself.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:stabbed through the middle of her chest by !Samidare's nodachi, destroying the portion of her spine that it passes through.]]
** [[spoiler:in the very next chapter, Yamakaze gets stabbed twice: once in the gut, and the other in the head to kill her.]]
* IronicFear: in chapter 304, she admits that she has thalassaphobia, the fear of the sea or large, open bodies of water...when she's a ship girl who's supposed to fight out at sea. Justified because this fear is based on her memories as a warship, which was sunk in the middle of the ocean by itself by enemy warships with no one around.
* IWillWaitForYou: [[spoiler:for nineteen years, to be precise. Little wonder she rants the way she does at her sisters in chapter 299.]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: completely averted from the game. Not only does Yamakaze fully remember how she sank as a warship, but she even goes into detail about her exact feelings about it [[spoiler:and, more importantly, her period of isolation leading up to her eventual admittance into the fleet.]]
* LeaveMeAlone: [[spoiler:her words to her sisters during their first moments meeting one another. Yamakaze says that her sisters should have never come for her if they'd known what they were about to get themselves into.]]
** [[spoiler:she yells this at her sisters out of spite in chapter 299 while she's suffering her nervous breakdown.]]
* LittleBigSister: while the story's own ranking of the Shiratsuyu-Class destroyers' heights are still relatively vague, and while Yamakaze is still most definitely treated like a little sister at times by Kawakaze, Yamakaze does actually do a few big-sisterly things, such as calming down an angered Suzukaze trying to punch Damon in the face.
* MagikarpPower: averted. She's one of the most recent ship girls to join the fleet, yet she can generate winds that can take the Slug tanks for a ride if she wants to.
* MeaningfulName: out of all the latter-half Shiratsuyu-Class, Yamakaze is the only one who apparently has the explicit power to generate wind, as indicated by the suffix "-kaze".
* MythologyGag: in the game, Yamakaze's sinking line has her calling out to Umikaze and Kawakaze, her sisters who were part of her destroyer division in World War II. [[spoiler:When !Samidare stabs Yamakaze through the back of the chest the first time to kick off the fight between her and the Shiratsuyu-Class, Yamakaze barely manages to utter those same two sisters' names before she falls.]]
* NonIndicativeName: her Clearwater Protocol has nothing to do with water. Instead, Yamakaze's power controls wind and is able to "purify" things and people.
* PottyFailure: [[spoiler:She voids her bladder when she loses control of her lower body due to having part of her spine destroyed by !Samidare.]]
* ThePowerOfHate: Yamakaze admits that once she [[spoiler:lost her mind during her period of isolation, she feels that the only reason why she was able to hang in there was because she felt extremely bitter and resentful that something like that was happening to her, after what she'd suffered in the war. She deeply yearned to survive for the sole purpose of showing her friends and sisters, assuming she was found at some point, what she had to go through in their absence.]]
[[spoiler:Though through no fault of their own, Yamakaze considers this promise broken.]]
* RantInducingSlight: [[spoiler:her tantrum in chapter 299 doesn't start as one, but it becomes one when Suzukaze yells back at her that she should've offed herself so that she wouldn't need to suffer being isolated for so long.]]
* RippedFromTheHeadlines: she now has the distinction of being ''the quickest'' among the ship girls pulled from the game and put into this story right as they were implemented - ''within a single day.''
* {{Shoutout}}:
** According to Sanford, [[spoiler:Yamakaze can still be reconstructed despite dying from a stab to the head, but upon reconstruction, Yamakaze must relearn all of her basic ship girl skills like standing/walking on water, cruising, controlling her weapons, etc. from scratch. This is a subtle reference to VideoGame/DarkestDungeon, in which there is a very rare town event that allows you to resurrect one adventurer who's died in your game, but he/she comes back with no equipment and all stats reset to 0.]]
** all of her abilities are shout-outs of some kind:
*** her Attack Up, Defense Up, her Four Roads, Five Paths, and Ingenuity skills are taken from Sun Tzu in VideoGame/EiyuuSenkiTheWorldConquest, who has these exact same skills right down to their effects. Her Mountain Training, Encouragement, and Deception skills are taken again from Sun Tzu in the sequel game, Eiyuu Senki Gold, again right down to their effects. Even Yamakaze's Fuurinkazan passive skill is something of a Shout-out to Sun Tzu, since the historic Sun Tzu coined the Fuurinkazan military ideology. [[CommonalityConnection It also helps that both of them have green hair.]]
*** her Fuurinkazan is one to Sengoku Rance, where the four generals of the Takeda clan have the Fuurinkazan passive ability that increases all four of their combat stats by 50% automatically whenever they enter combat. Yamakaze's Fuurinkazan works the exact same way, and then some.
*** she also has a special parry called the Mind's Eye, the name of Ryu's parry V-Skill in VideoGame/StreetFighterV, but it pushes back/repels attacks upon successful use.
** and just like all of her other sisters, in chapter 311, she receives an AK-104 of her own that has the [[VideoGame/CounterStrike "Hydroponic"]] weapon skin.
* ShrinkingViolet: ''the'' ShrinkingViolet of the class, just going off her dialogue alone.
* SuperPowerMeltdown: [[spoiler:her Clearwater Protocol goes haywire in chapter 299 because of all the mental damage that she's suffered from her period of extended isolation.]]
* SupportPartyMember: she is ''the'' support party member of her class, with lots of abilities that all ''heavily'' focus on improving the combat stats of others and can stack with each other.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: when Damon welcomes her into the fleet and gives her a hug [[spoiler:to make a YRC contract with her]], Yamakaze [[spoiler:feels the warmth of his energy]] and basks in it while trying to deny that she's feeling anything.
--> Yamakaze: "...so warm...I'm...definitely...not happy...I'm not...I'm...not..."
* TearsOfBlood: she sheds one of these when she [[spoiler:meets her sisters for the first time during their mission to confront !Samidare and Sandman.]]
* ThemeNaming: Clearwater Protocol.

!Kawakaze

* AbnormalAmmo: invokes this when her protocol is activated, and all of her own munitions, both cannon shells and bullets alike, turn incendiary for the duration that her protocol is active.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: in this story, Kawakaze sounds noticeably less delinquent-like and speaks more like your average American high school teen whenever she speaks English. Of course, she could still sound like her canon delinquent self while speaking Japanese.
* BelligerentSexualTension: [[spoiler:in chapter 316, Kawakaze haggles with Damon, trying to get him to have sex with her and Umikaze. She eventually settles for [[ThePromise a verbal agreement]] to postpone it until Damon recovers from his injury and after they come back from their next combat operation.]]
* {{Determinator}}:
** compared to her sister Umikaze. [[spoiler:When Damon finds her and Umikaze at the Inner Circle base in Mexico, he finds Kawakaze still barely hanging in there after at least weeks of torture and rape when Umikaze is already well on her way off the deep end. She also recovers more quickly than Umikaze does.]] In addition, one of her passive abilities listed in the stat sheet gives her strong combat bonuses if she is fighting while outnumbered or is dueling against another enemy that is a stronger ship type than herself.
* DissonantSerenity: in chapter 361, she channels some of Damon's energy [[spoiler:that she got from him through sex]] in order to power herself up for a short period of time to fight the [[spoiler:Baltimore monsters]], and one of the immediate effects is a calmer and more focused mindset.
* EarCleaning: does this with Umikaze for Damon in chapter 282. Even the chapter title is this in Japanese.
* ElementalHair: bright red hair to match her Firewater Protocol.
* {{Fangirl}}: only slightly subverted; she doesn't go ''full'' fangirl over Sendai, but they are described to be close friends and are depicted eating dinner together the night Damon makes the fleet Burgundy meat stew.
* FemmeFatale: as chapter 331 intricately describes, Kawakaze is this - minus the backstab part. So far she's only using her looks and her body to convince Damon to [[spoiler:just have even more sex with her and Umikaze]], but she's not entirely successful with that. Yet.
* FieryRedhead: now taken literally with her Firewater Protocol.
* FlamingHair: with [[spoiler:Damon's YRC]], Kawakaze's hair begins to flake with embers.
* GirlishPigtails: and of note, Kawakaze has them undone at one point. Hint: she has them undone at the same time as Umikaze has her braids undone.
* GreaterNeedThanMine: insists that Damon attend to her sister Umikaze more than herself [[spoiler:because she knows that Umikaze is in worse of a condition than she is after they get rescued]].
* GrinOfAudacity: hits Suzukaze with one of these in chapter 312 [[spoiler:when Suzukaze is about to begin tearing her limbs off.]] With what happens next, however, she immediately loses it - but not for the reason you'd think.
* {{Hellfire}}: funnily enough, it's the name of one of the abilities that she can use while in protocol, which allows her to fire a special cannon round into the air and [[DeathFromAbove rain hellfire down in nine separate flaming meteors]] onto the battlefield.
* HotBlooded: with her Firewater Protocol, this is a given.
* HiddenBuxom: as chapter 331 describes, Kawakaze has a surprisingly large "upper hull armor" for what she gives off while normally dressed that she keeps suppressed with the help of a {{Sarashi}}.
* HotWings: [[spoiler:gains a pair through Damon's YRC power - and to many of the other ship girls' amazement, she really can fly with them.]]
* InSeriesNickname: Kira, though Damon surprisingly doesn't have a problem pronouncing Kawakaze's full name to begin with, so he uses both names interchangeably.
* LettingHerHairDown: in chapter 316, she has her hair untied from their usual low twintails.
* LingerieScene: [[spoiler:the first 3/4 of chapter 316. She and Umikaze crash Damon's room in underwear versions of their own uniforms.]]
* MidSeasonUpgrade: [[spoiler:after diving into Damon's dreamworld for the first time, both she and Umikaze seem to gain power-ups to their energies, as the narration explicitly compares them to how they were before.]]
* NonIndicativeName: her Firewater Protocol has absolutely nothing to do with water. Quite the contrary, in fact.
* PlayingWithFire: due to her Firewater Protocol, she's able to generate and manipulate fire freely and use it either as elemental upgrades for her melee attacks via ElementalPunch or as a ranged attack by themselves.
* PowerGivesYouWings: see HotWings.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: [[spoiler:suffers this at the hands of the Inner Circle agents in their base in Mexico, although she handles it slightly better than Umikaze.]]
* RapunzelHair: [[spoiler:and now thanks to Damon's YRC, it now sheds flaking embers like [[LightNovel/ShakuganNoShana another certain fiery redheaded girl.]]]]
* RedOniBlueOni: red to Umikaze's blue. Even ColorCodedForYourConvenience.
* {{Shoutout}}: [[spoiler:in chapter 261, with Damon's YRC help, Kawakaze gains many of Shana's powers like [[LightNovel/ShakuganNoShana flaming ember hair, flaming eyes, and flaming wings.]]]]
** as of chapter 285, her new rifle, an AK-104, has the [[VideoGame/{{Counterstrike}} Redline]] weapon skin to match her...hair, probably.
** Right after Damon says no to Umikaze asking him if it's alright for her to [[spoiler:bear his children]], Kawakaze whispers into his ear, "Hey, Damon, [[VisualNovel/SchoolDays nice boat."]]
* SiblingYinYang: to Umikaze. Kawakaze is a HotBlooded, fiery BoisterousBruiser whose powers revolve around fire, fire, and [[FieryRedhead more fire.]]
* StockKisses: she and Umikaze are fond of giving Damon these, mainly on the cheeks.
* SuicideAttack: [[spoiler:in revenge for !Samidare gravely wounding her twin Umikaze, Kawakaze tries to grab !Samidare after setting herself up to detonate like a firebomb. It doesn't work, since !Samidare just throws her away, and Kawakaze simply detonates herself in vain.]]
* TheTease: forget teasing, Kawakaze ''aggressively'' pushes Damon to have a "night battle" with her and Umikaze one night.
* ThemeNaming: Firewater Protocol. [[{{Irony}} Wait a minute...]]
* ThoseTwoGirls: with Umikaze. They even get their own mini-arc in the story with Damon. [[spoiler:It's not as innocent as it sounds.]]
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: while not necessarily a true "girlfriend" of Damon, both she and Umikaze will still fiercely protect him, as their brief conflict with the Re-Class following their emergency repairs demonstrates.

!Suzukaze

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: her attitude gets steadily worse and worse over the course of the story, mainly towards Damon but even towards her sister Samidare, with whom she's normally the closest out of all her sisters in the Shiratsuyu-Class.
* BackForTheDead: chapter 164 opens with a depiction of her [[spoiler:getting consumed by the flames of her own Darkwater Protocol.]]
* BackstabBackfire: inflicts this onto a couple of Quakers in chapter 130.
* BecauseImGoodAtIt: she herself admits that she's not the most emotionally sensitive or aware, but if she sees that her sisters are in trouble and need her help, she'll come in with all guns blazing, and she is adamant that she be able to do this because it's what she knows how to do best.
* BerserkButton: like that of her other sisters, she will come to the aid of her sisters no matter what the circumstance. [[spoiler:Though, this does end up biting her in the ass when it comes to the incident between Murasame and Kisaragi.]]
* BloodIsTheNewBlack: [[spoiler:once everyone is dead in Philadelphia, at the end of it all, Suzukaze is depicted covered head to toe in blood from all of the victims her Darkwater Protocol has claimed.]]
* BoisterousBruiser: while she doesn't come off as this immediately in the story, once she gets her powers, she'll have her moments.
* BreakOutTheMuseumPiece: in chapter 285, like Samidare, she receives a Type 99 battle rifle that was also brought to America by an American GI after the second World War and eventually ended up in a personal gun collection of a friend of Eagle's, and Eagle was able to pass the gun onto them. The rifle receives the same modifications as Samidare's Type 38 to make the rifle more usable and modern, and it's now part of Suzukaze's personal equipment list.
* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:at the end of chapter 313, it's revealed that !Samidare was in fact successful in purifying Suzukaze with Yamakaze's Fuurinkazan ability. It would normally be BroughtDownToNormal, but considering Suzukaze is still a ship girl...]]
* BullyingADragon: does this [[spoiler:to her own sister Samidare when she separates her from the rest of the Shiratsuyu-Class in Houston and cages her in a glass-like stasis cell. Once Samidare is broken free, Suzukaze learns that for as much of a dragon she herself has become, her own sister is an even bigger one.]]
* CameBackWrong: chapter 187 reveals [[spoiler:the extent of the change that Suzukaze has gone through after being consumed by her Darkwater Protocol.]]
* CannotSpitItOut: averted; she is the one Shiratsuyu-Class destroyer who has not yet explicitly spoken to him about her affections for him, assuming she really has any for him at all.
* CatScare: has one in chapter 111, when a falling brick scares her as she's walking through the abandoned Atlantic City.
* ChekhovsGun: [[spoiler:when Suzukaze discovers her demonic angel form for the first time, she does so in the city of Houston. When Samidare runs away to track down her mother, the rest of the Shiratsuyu-Class follow shortly thereafter in a search and rescue mission. Where do they go? Houston. Where does the opening scene of the story take place? Houston.]]
* CurbStompBattle: what ends up happening when [[spoiler:Damon tries to go up against her in Houston.]]
* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:gets a triple-whammy: first when the Federal soldiers in Atlantic City kill Tatsuya and burn down the house that Miyuki is staying in, second when the Shakers chase her out for "healing" Celsie, and third when the Shakers are massacred. See TraumaCongaLine on the main page.]]
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: an unusual twist: she unknowingly sets her own internal monologue on open broadcast, so while she doesn't actually say anything aloud, Shigure, who walks up behind her, hears everything over vicinity comms.
* DisproportionateRetribution: [[spoiler:while under the influence of her rampant protocol, she proclaims that she wants nothing more than to force the rest of the world to feel her pain that she suffered while going on her TraumaCongaLine, though Damon confronts her and tells her that [[MisplacedRetribution the person she ought to take revenge against, if anyone, is Sanford.]]]]
* DissonantSerenity: Gains this in chapter 121 [[spoiler:when her Darkwater Protocol activates for the first time.]]
* DropTheHammer: [[spoiler:gains a Gravity Hammer as a weapon through her contract with Damon's YRC.]]
* DumbMuscle: becomes this when she activates her Darkwater Protocol, which grants her a colossal +10 attack but reduces both her intelligence and speed by 5.
* EmbodimentOfVice: given her SiblingYinYang with Samidare, Suzukaze truly does seem like this.
* EtTuBrute: she realizes that if Murasame wasn't the one who dropped the DisappointedInYou hammer on her from the incident between Murasame and Kisaragi, she wouldn't have taken it anywhere near as badly.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: opts for a ponytail instead of her usual low twintails while spending time at [[spoiler:Philadelphia]] [[spoiler:In addition, just like Samidare, she gains hair flaps during her transformation at Houston while fighting against her.]]
* GenkiGirl: subverted somewhat; she's calmer than her canon self, but she'll get into the heat of things if she feels like it.
* GirlishPigtails: though, for a time, she did change her hairstyle to a single ponytail.
* GraveMarkingScene: [[spoiler:in chapter 143, once she's done killing everybody, Suzukaze buries the bodies of Barry, Baxster, and Celsie out at the field next to the pub and marks it with her pair of emerald bobbles.]]
* GravityMaster: [[spoiler:implied with such attacks as her Gravity Spikes and now her more recently acquired Gravity Hammer, although Suzukaze's yet to manipulate gravity itself.]]
** [[spoiler:fulfilled in chapter 312, when Suzukaze achieves her Angel form once again, she is able to gain full control over gravity, creating a gravity field that affects the entire Houston area to keep her comrades pinned for the most part.]]
* GravityIsPurple: averted. [[spoiler:Suzukaze's protocol energy is black.]]
* HealingFactor: [[spoiler:when !Samidare impales her through the heart with her nodachi half, Suzukaze seems to die at first, but her body is immediately restored thanks to her Darkwater Protocol.]]
* HealingHands: appears to have this when she uses her Colossus Reactor to heal a wounded girl in Philadelphia, [[spoiler:but it turns out she gets incredibly sick with Darkwater radiation. Later events confirm that her "healing hands" are only meant for other ship girls and not necessarily for humans.]]
* HeKnowsTooMuch: She's compelled to eliminate all Quakers when rescuing Baxter from the hold of the New Jersey. This leads to the events of KillEmAll below.
* {{Hellfire}}: [[spoiler:what her protocol flames are implied to be, especially in light of the SiblingYinYang that Suzukaze and Samidare share.]]
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:in chapter 292, she not only gets smashed by her own Gravity Hammer when !Samidare gets hold of it, but she also gets defeated for good when !Samidare also explodes her with a Darkwater-powered blast that she sets off with an axe kick.]]
* HolyHalo: [[spoiler:gains one during her fight against Samidare...[[LightIsNotGood but it's anything but holy.]]]]
* HotBlooded: literally, with her Darkwater Protocol.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:inflicts this onto Damon while intending to do this to Kawakaze, tearing his left arm off.]]
* InASingleBound: She, too, jumps up from the Delaware River onto the deck of the New Jersey while in the process of rescuing Baxter.
* InSeriesNickname: Damon shortens her name to Suzy, and so far, Suzukaze doesn't seem to mind at all. Surprising, given that most other ship girls who don't really like Damon and who are called nicknames by him all hate the fact that he doesn't call them by their full Japanese names.
* InterfaceScrew: [[spoiler:at multiple intervals throughout her mini-arc, if she suffers a severe blow to her psyche, her heads-up display will start flooding with X's, Y's, and Z's. [[FridgeHorror Doesn't that sound familiar...]]]]
* IronicName: just like her ingame self, her name contrasts sharply with herself - not only her personality, but also her protocol.
* KillEmAll: [[spoiler:during her mini-arc, the survivors she stays with for a time in Philadelphia, the Shakers, are attacked and wiped out by their rival faction, the Quakers. Suzukaze is in the Quaker camp when this happens, trying to figure out if there is another ship girl, which there isn't, andwhen the Quakers return with Barry's head on a stake, [[LimpAndLivid this is the result.]]]]
* LaughingMad: [[spoiler:she starts doing this halfway through her fight with !Samidare in chapter 312.]]
* LudicrousGibs: [[spoiler:what she's now able to do as a result of her Darkwater Protocol. Her entry in the stat sheet explicitly states that she can instantly kill any human being like this while in protocol because she's tearing the water molecules in her victims' bodies apart, [[CruelAndUnusualDeath causing them to implode.]] She demonstrates this quite...liberally at times.]]
* MakingASplash: Suzukaze's innate ability, Water Cascade, allows her to manipulate water directly to attack. Synergizes well with Samidare's innate ability, as demonstrated in chapter 64, when Samidare creates a large wall of ocean water that Suzukaze throws forward like a tidal wave.
* MegatonPunch: [[spoiler:Suzukaze, in her angel form, punches Yamakaze in the mouth so hard that she splits her upper jaw in half, punches her four front teeth down her own throat, loosening her upper canines in the process, burns the skin around her mouth, and knocks her out from the sheer blunt trauma just for good measure. Also ties in with ElementalPunch because of the burn effect that her punch inflicts onto Yamakaze.]]
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: delivers one to an enemy in chapter 133 when he ambushes her in the darkness of the hold of the New Jersey with a metal baseball bat.
* NonIndicativeName: like her older sister Kawakaze's, her Darkwater Protocol has nothing to do with water. It's dark, yes, but [[{{Hellfire}} for the wrong reasons.]]
* NotTheIntendedUse: receives the Colossus Reactor from [[spoiler:U.S.S. New Jersey]], an augmentation that's meant for battleships.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:after Philadelphia, slowly turns into one until she reaches Houston.]]
* OrderedApology: [[spoiler:is compelled to give one when Shigure tells her to, and she does.]]
* OutOfGenreExperience: her mini-arc, called Suzukaze's Voyage in the story chapters, deviates from the story's usual grimdark action-adventure and begins teetering into horror territory.
* PaintingTheMedium: [[spoiler:just like Samidare, starting in chapter 312, all of Suzukaze's dialogue is typed in Zalgo font once she's completed her transformation into her demon angel form. Why? Well...[[FridgeHorror Remember those weird three letters that keep popping up in the story every once in a while?]]]]
* PlayingWithFire: [[spoiler:what the powers that her Darkwater Protocol grant eventually turn into. Even the energy swirls that Suzukaze produces as a result of triggering her protocol are described as viscous black flames.]]
* PleaseKillMeIfItSatisfiesYou: gives one of these to Shigure.
* PottyFailure: She pees herself before passing out from fear when [[spoiler:she discovers that Tatsuya and Miyuki have been living off of mutated corpses for food.]]
* RealityEnsues: Suzukaze is confronted by Damon, who makes it clear that his tolerance on her constant, near-perpetual insubordination has limits, and that he's not interested in spoiling her by giving her the wartime Arisaka rifle given them them by Mr. Harrison.
* RedOniBlueOni: red to Samidare's blue.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[spoiler:delivers one to the Federal soldiers who kill her friends Miyuki and Tatsuya at Atlantic City, the trigger necessary for her Darkwater Protocol activation.]]
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: pulls this off after getting told off by Murasame, contributing greatly to her own banishment from the fleet.
* SiblingYinYang: to Samidare in a hodgepodge of respects, other than the apparent personality foils. Suzukaze begins with a slightly favorable opinion of Damon that quickly worsens over time (though, past [[spoiler:Houston]], it's not entirely clear if Suzukaze is becoming a {{Tsundere}} for him); her protocol is entirely about killing people in the goriest ways possible (even the names of their protocols are directly opposite); Suzukaze suffers a TraumaCongaLine during her own mini-arc called "Suzukaze's Voyage" while Samidare is in Germany with the rest of the fleet; [[spoiler:she becomes a thoroughly malevolent entity at Houston]]; even the weapons they decide to use also applies, as Suzukaze most often uses close-range weapons like the AA-12 automatic shotgun.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: seems to have a proficiency or at least a liking towards shotguns, since she uses an AA-12 automatic shotgun for much of her early combat ops with the fleet and now uses the [[http://www.stdgun.com/dp-12-double-barrel-pump-shotgun/ DP-12 double-barreled pump-action shotgun.]]
* {{Shoutout}}: with [[spoiler:Damon's YRC, Suzukaze can wield the Gravity Hammer from VideoGame/Halo3.]]
** as of chapter 285, her new firearm, a DP-12 shotgun, has the [[VideoGame/{{Counterstrike}} Darkwater]] weapon skin to match her protocol. Interestingly, she's the only one in the Shiratsuyu-Class whose new weapon doesn't match the original one that has the weapon skin from the game.
* SoftWater: averts this in chapter 121 [[spoiler:when she uses her Water Cascade ability to drop a waterfall down onto the Federal soldiers who killed Tatsuya and Miyuki and kills most of them with it.]]
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:basically what her demon angel form is.]]
* ThemeNaming: Darkwater Protocol. [[spoiler:Given how much and how drastically it's developed over the course of the story, Suzukaze's protocol could debatably be the most powerful protocol among the Shiratsuyu-Class.]]
* ThoseTwoGirls: with Samidare. For a brief period of time, [[spoiler:Samidare and Suzukaze are the only two ship girls Damon has, much like how Umikaze and Kawakaze were before them.]]
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: [[spoiler:has two instances:]]
** [[spoiler:one is during the Suzukaze's Voyage arc. When her friends Miyuki and Tatsuya get killed by American Federal soldiers, Suzukaze snaps and awakens her Darkwater Protocol and slaughters them all. [[ThisIsGonnaSuck This is the easy part]]]]
** [[spoiler:this may be up to debate, but she goes through another one when her friends and their community of Shakers get killed at the hands of members of their rival faction, the Quakers, specifically after she sees the head of her friend Barry carried into Philadelphia on a pike. This triggers her Darkwater Protocol again, but because she has gained the power of the Colossus Reactor from the resident battleship New Jersey who is still moored in the harbor near the Shaker settlement, her protocol draws on the power of the augmentation, and coupled with the fact that Suzukaze is only a destroyer and cannot fully control the potential of her newly acquired augmentation, [[PowerIncontinence her protocol runs rampant as a result,]] and causes her to slaughter the entire Quaker settlement. [[FromBadToWorse Her protocol begins to slowly consume her from that point forward.]]]]
** [[spoiler:when the Shiratsuyu-Class head out to track down their missing sister, Suzukaze is the first one who finds her body. Realizing that her sister is dead, Suzukaze slowly succumbs to her demonic angel form again in grief over her sister's death. Fittingly, they find Samidare's body at Houston.]]
* {{Unperson}}: is treated like one by Sanford following her banishment from the fleet.
* WeaponOfChoice: uses the AA-12 automatic shotgun for much of the early parts of the story with her introduction.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: it's clear that [[spoiler:by the time Damon revisits Houston and confronts Suzukaze, she's wholly changed due to the rampancy of her protocol.]]
